Firefox 7 crashes (on startup) when running on Win7 as standard user.

Upgraded from 6.02 to 7.0 (automatically) on Win7. Running as standard user, FF 7 crashes on startup. Running with admin rights, FF starts up ok. Was running 6.02 as standard user with no issues. Disabled all plug-ins, and same result. Submitted this without the crash ID as well, but now have figured out how to supply it. Cannot see how to startup FF on win7 in 'safe' mode. Shift key during launch doesn't work. No menu items for 'start ff in safe mode.

Here's a workaround for users using Oracle ESSO version 11.1.1.5.0 on win7. The workaround removes the startup of the v-GO helper object for mozilla.
Note that this also means no SSO support for FireFox.
1st - on installation of ESSO - try turning off the Mozilla helper (custom install).
A registry fix will also work
(Try at your own risk and backup before editing the registry.) YMMV for this workaround and other versions/flavors of SSO/Tivoli/v-GO and Windows.
Key is
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Passlogix\Extensions\AccessManager\StartupApps]
Remove the line starting "MozHOPath"
Restart v-GO SSO or reboot

  • Firefox crashes on startup

    Here's the deal.
From one day onto the next, out of the blue, Firefox (version 18.0.1) refuses to start up.
I get the crash reporter screen as soon as Firefox tries to start, stating that firefox has crashed.
If I click on "Details" nothing happens.
If I click on "Restart Firefox" I immidiately get the next Crash Reporter screen.
No Windows updates were installed, and no Firefox updates either from what I can tell.
    I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 btw...
So I tried starting firefox in "Windows Compatability mode" using Windows XP SP3.
Now Firefox starts, including all plugins, without any problems.
I can also start firefox in "Safe mode" by holding down the SHIFT key when double-clikcing on the firefox icon.
So while in safe mode, I typed about:crashes in the URL bar witch showed the following:
    Submitted Crash Reports

(in the mean time, I have a whole lot more :( )
So then (still in Firefox safe mode) I went into the Add-ons Manager and uninstalled all Extensions.
Then I disabled all plugins (which btw are all up to date according to Firefox itself):
    Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.110.21 10.11.2.21
    Java(TM) Paltform SE 7 U11 10.11.2.21
    Adobe Acrobat 11.0.1.36
    Shockwave Flash 11.5.205.146
    Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.10411.0
    VLC Web Plugin 2.0.2.0
    Wacom Tablet Plugin 2.1.0.2
Then I closed Firefox, but when trying to start Firefox again in normal mode, it crashed again.
I have also tried uninstalling Firefox completely, then running a registry cleaner to make sure everything was really gone.
Then downloading and installed Firefox 18.0.1 again.
But as soon as it started it crashed again.
I again uninstalled Firefox, ran the reg-cleaner but this time I installed Firefox version 9 (which I still had on a backup drive), but this version too, crashes on startup.
And I had the same with version 15 which I also still had on the backup drive.
But whichever version I install, they all crash at startup unless I start them in compatibility mode or safe mode.
I even uninstalling all the programs which had a plugin embeded in the browser, so there were no plugins left.
And again, uninstalled Firefox and reinstaled it. But still Firefox crashes at startup.
And finally I even updated my graphics drivers and followed this thread:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration#os=win7&browser=fx18
Since I've done everything I can think off, I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be.
So if anyone has any idea, please let me know.
I hate to switch browsers, and I don't want to run things in "compatability mode" just to have it working, because it did work before.
in the mean time, here are some more crash reports:

    Just a small update...
I tried running a portable version of Firefox which I had on my USB stick... same problem.
The same goes for my TOR Browser (which uses Firefox too), it too crashes when the embedded Firefox is started.
Both however, have always worked just fine on the same system and still work fine on any other system I have.
    ---edit---
Well I finished uninstalling and removing everything Firefox related on my system (also ran the reg-cleaner again).
I downloaded and reinstalled Firefox 18, but it still crashes.
I ran it in safe mode, disabled the hardware acceleration, and ran it again in normal mode...
    guess what... it works again!
The weird thing is, I already tried disabling the hardware acceleration but it didn't work.
So why it works now? I haven't got a clue.
The other weird thing is... why did this problem occur in the first place... There have been no changes to my system, no updates, nothing.
Ah well, I guess I'll never know. But at least it's working again.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Firefox crashes on startup and we've tried all your solutions but none work

Firefox crashes when I double click the icon. I have gone through all the fixes on the website with no improvement. I am able to get it to open only when I right click and use the run as administrator option. I have reinstalled firefox, changed profiles, and tried safe mode option. All had the same effect firefox crashed on startup. I have run four different malware removal programs and restarted the computer, still crashes. I also ran my antivirus program last night and still crashes. I turned off the firewall and still crashes. I tried also the reset option in troubleshooting options but still crashes. Firefox worked fine till yesterday then java updated and the crashes started occurring, I have also done a system restore to before java updated but still crashes.
here is the crash report information.

  • Firefox crashes at startup

I have always used Firefox on my W7 laptop, but following the 37.0.1 update Firefox always crashes at startup. can anyone help? thanks

    Hi Cominottom,
Thank you for your question, this is a response to the "escalate" tag. I understand that Firefox crashes on a specific website and that you have removed java, disabled hardware acceleration, have tried a new profile and disabled extensions and removed faulty RAM.
The only hint is the signature, and the line it breaks in is when the page is getting the boolean info of the SVG. However there are no svg elements on the page. However the page does require javascript. I am wondering if it has to do with the graphic drivers, since there was an update to your hardware. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Just an observation:
The previous config for the Raedon was:
    layers.acceleration.force-enabled = true
    gfx.direct2d.force-enabled = true
    where currently you have :
    gfx.blacklist.direct2d: 3
    gfx.blacklist.layers.direct3d9: 3
    layers.acceleration.disabled: True
Can you try to create a new profile for the new hardware set up to see if there is an improvement? [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
    Looking forward to your reply!

  • Firefox crashes during startup

    Hi,
My Firefox (v18.0b7 version) needed for specific web application accesses) suddenly crashes during startup.
I've tried remove/install again, same behaviour. creating new profile changes nothing.

OK, apparently something has been broken with my Software Center. Version 28.0 is pretty old, after all.
So I just launched Update Manager and updated everything to 14.04.1.
Now Firefox runs and displays 32.0 in its "About" dialog.

  • Firefox crashes upon startup after update to new version and download attempt

I was asked to update to a new version of Firefox, and when I responded positively to something like, "Do you want to run Firefox now?" it crashed immediately. When I tried to launch it from the desktop it crashed immediately. When I launched it holding down the shift key it brought up Internet Explorer, not Firefox. I don't know why. I tried to download Firefox from scratch, but the result was the same--it crashed upon launch.

Is this a chat forum? Will someone help me from here? Should I just wait here?

  • Firefox crashes on open after running Adobe flash

I need to run Adobe flash for a support site I use for work. There was a flash update and ever since the update firefox crashes immediately when I open it. If I uninstall firefox, uninstall flash, reboot my pc, re-install firefox, then firefox will run. Once I re-install flash and go to the support site I need to visit, firefox will then crash whenever I open it. I've noticed that if I don't uninstall firefox and flash but go into firefox after a reboot it stays up, but once I go to the support site that requries flash firefox will then crash whenever I start it. I've tried older versions of flash and firefox but the resutls are same. Anyone have any ideas to help? I use IE for the support site that requires flash and it works ok.

    HI artzmama,
In order to better understand the issue, a little investigation will have to be done.
*Are there any crash reports listed under the page about:crashes?
*Do you have any addons or apps installed in Firefox? If so, please try to open it without these installed.
