Firefox 9.01 keeps checking addon compatibility at startup. UGGH

Firefox 9.01 keeps checking addon compatibility at startup. The option is not checked and the previous addon to disable doesn't work. Ideas?

You can check these KB articles:
*https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
*https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is a compatibility update available.

  • On update to 4.0 Firefox locked up while checking for compatability of applications and will not load.

I have HP a6620f, Vista, 64 bit, 2.5 GHz 4.0 GB RAM. Firefox worked great until I upgraded to 4.0 when it locked up while checking for compatability of applications. I have the desktop ikon but firefox will not come up. Task manager shows firefox.exe using 50% of CPU when terying to come up.

I've since updated manually to 4.0.1, but haven't yet tried the full uninstall version, because I have to export plenty of settings first (and/or manually copy them). Also means I'd have to start from scratch with many customizations in No Script.
That said, I'll try the 'Safe Mode' option tonight, thank you :-)!
If I have to uninstall the whole shebang, I'd be more tempted to go back to 3.6.x until a few more of 4's teething problems (e.g. the messy print dialogues, particularly preview, which regularly doesn't even work) have been tackled.
Thanks-1M! for now - keep you posted.

  • How do I get Firefox to check addon compatibility first, then ask me if I want to continue the Firefox update?

How do I get Firefox to check add-on compatibility first, then ask me if I want to continue the Firefox update? The update process currently only tells me that an add-on has been disable after applying the Firefox update. The Options > Advanced > Update tab switch, "Warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons", does not seem to work.

How do we check that new versions of FF are compatible with our existing Add-ons? I'm really quite over always having half of them not working after updating FF. It's very frustrating. Couldn't there be an option in the Add-ons menu that checks if they're compatible with a new version? Thanks.

  • When downloading it gets to the point of checking addons and gets stuck and wont open.

How do I get past checking addons when I cant open Firefox after downloading Firefox35.0? It seems to download fine but then it gets to the point of checking Addon compatibility and stops.

You can check if you can start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> by holding down the Shift/Options key.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • I load firefox it checks the compatibility of the add-ons. They are compatible, I have confirmed this through an addon but it doesnt go away. I also always loads the "welcome to firefox page" that you usually get after an update. How do I stop this?

Click any firefox link and it loads a box first checking the compatibility. This can take anything from 20 seconds to 5 mins to complete. When that finishes it loads up the standard page you get up after you update firefox plus my homepage. It also freezes and lags ("not responding") briefly as well if I try to close it down and sometimes crashes.
This happens without fail every time that I load up firefox and some help would be much appreciated in resolving this.

I desperately would like to update Firefox to version 10 from version 9 but each time I try, I am stuck with FF10 checking addons for compatability and the Welcome page opening every time I start the browser. I continue to have to revert to version 9 to resolve this issue.

Sorry to be a while getting back! Tried all of that with no sucess so this AM, bit the bullet and deleted the FF folder from programs and downloaded and installed FF 10.01. Still was plagued with the same problem. Went into the appdata folder and there were two sessionstore.js files. Deleted them both, restarted the browser and no compatibility check for add-ons was done at start up and the extra tab for Welcome to FF was no longer opening Everything seems to be working as it should and I did not loose any of my settings.. Thank you for trying to help and I hope my solution helps anyone else who might experience this in the future. Here's hoping the next update goes smoother!

  • Firefox opens with a window that says "Checking for compatibility for Add-ons" then it always opens 2 tabs... one with my home page and one that says Congratulations, Firefox is up to date. How can I stop it from starting that way?

Firefox opens with a window that says "Checking for compatibility for Add-ons" then it always opens 2 tabs... one with my home page and one that says Congratulations, Firefox is up

    Hi konee,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Firefox 8 will not install, it freezes at checking addons

I downloaded 8 but it wouldn't open the web page, although the manager shows that Firefox is running. I uninstalled and tried again, but when the checking addons page came up it froze and was not responding. I have uninstalled again and reverted to 3.5.4, my previous version. I am running XP

You did not include Troubleshooting Information when you posted, but your User Agent string is displayed and is odd.
You probably have some malware|adware|toolbar installed that you may not be aware of.
    Ask toolbar? string:
    * User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; AskTbORJ/5.15.15.36191)
    See
    * [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]
The easiest solution will be using Firefox Reset, which is available from the safe mode option, but please read the notes in the following article first, because you will loose extensions, open tabs, tab groups and some preferences & changes you have made. Make notes &/or bookmark things before resetting.

  • Constantly checks addon compatibily on new install v32

Since I have updated to the latest FF v32 it always checks the compatibility of the addons everytime I start it up. It was really annoying so i went back to a previous version and everything worked fine, all the addons worked and there was no issue but this new version has done nothing but give me a headache. Is this a bug in the new system update or what? Done a new install with it, with a new directory and tried with same. Delete old prefetch (if any), windows cache, restarted but the same issue.
    Running Win7 64-bit

You can only bring up the Profile Manager when all Firefox instances are closed, so if necessary check that in the Windows Task Manager on the processes tab.

  • Firefox will not keep igoogle as my home page. I have done all of the steps to do so but every time I log off and then comeback, google is gone. This is a new problem; igoogle on Firefox has been my homepage for years.

iGoogle has been my homepage for years. All of a sudden when I logon I now get the Firefox welcome page not Google. I have done all of the steps Firefox indicates to make iGoogel my home page but it keeps reverting to Firefox after I logoff.

  • How do I block an ad that opens up a new Firefox window and keeps telling me my system performance is poor? I can't even capture the link.

This particular ad, supposedly from a Windows Certified Partner, opens in a second Firefox window and keeps flashing the message that my System Performance is Poor, wanting me to click on their ad and let them do whatever nasty things they want to my system. I have not been able to capture the path but next time it comes up, I will write down all that I can see.
If I have closed my main Firefox screen first, and then close out this ad, the next time I open Firefox, the ad opens and all my standard tabs are gone, requiring me to reopen each one seperately (Facebook, Google, etc).

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
    (1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    (2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    (3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
    (4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Hopefully that cures it.

I recently installed Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX--11.4.402.265 and when I open My Mozilla Firefox browser I keep getting this message flashing on my screen: 'Adobe Flash Player 11.4 r402 has stopped working" and then "Windows is checking for a solution"
This flashes a few times then usually stops but not always.
It happens every time I try to open a new page.
I fixed this problem by uninstalling Adobe Flash Player 11 and installing Adobe Flash Player 10.3. However, now my IE browser wants me to install Adobe Flash Player 11 again. Although I don't use my IE browser frequently, I DO have to use it sometimes. Will there be an update to Firefox 15.0 to correct this issue?

Thank you, your solution worked great.

  • Firefox Built-In Spell Checker

I installed Firefox from 'Pacman' today and it works great. It's currenlty 3.5.7 and noticed that when I am typing and mis-spell obvious words, it does not underline them in red as Firefox would on any other distribution. I made sure I have the option selected in Firefox that say's "Check My Spelling As I Type" however it does not appear to be working. Am I missing a package or 'Add-on' for this to work?
