Firefox 9 completely unstable when CrossFire is enabled

My desktop PC has been having this issue pretty much since FF9 came out, and it prompted me to do a COMPLETE wipe and reload of my desktop PC today.
Guess what?
If crossfire is enabled, and I try to use Firefox to surf ANYTHING, regardless of content, the system BSODs with the stupid atikmpag.sys file and continues to do so until I disable crossfire.
Seriously, what the heck?

Hi,
If the issue is only with Firefox, you can try disabling (uncheck) '''Use hardware acceleration when available''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General'''.

  • (1) understanding why Firefox consistently crashes; (2) why Firefox does not acknowledge when "cookies" ARE enabled.

Firefox will crash while I am using the internet...no warning, no apparent reason...just an apology for the crash. Why?
Today, when using an Adobe application Firefox did not recognize or allow the website to recognize that "cookies" WERE enabled. I kept receiving a message that the website could not proceed until same was enabled. Even after several redoing the enabling instructions, the message report the cookies were NOT enabled. Yet, as I write this the screen menu drop down in Tools, Options shows the cookies is programmed and are enabled. Why? How to fix?

Please upgrade your browser Firefox 7 where we fix ton of crashes and freezes:

Running W8.1 Update 1. I installed FF29RC1 which runs smoothly however when I close FF I can't start it again because it says its already running. When I shut down the FF service in the task manager, disable the update service in FF options, it runs wihthout any problem and I can start FF everytime I want to without any problem.

Firefox 29.0 has been released, so no need to install a release candidate.

Did you check in the system monitor if there still are Firefox processes running?
Did you install Firefox in your user account (~ or /home/<user>) or in a location that requires root privileges for write access?

  • Firefox is completely useless when it comes to filling in forms and comments in Facebook and Picasa

Does anyone else have the maddening experience of filling in a comment, not just in FB but also in Picasa or any other "modern" interactive webpage, in which your changes are not saved and the page must be reloaded several times, the comment reentered, reloaded, reentered up to three or four times, before the damn thing "sticks????" I am SICK of having to write everything in a text editor, copy it, paste it, reload and then repeat and repeat. This is why people OD on pills. Can't you software engineers take a couple of years OFF and leave us all alone to work and enjoy the technology as it is until you go around "improving" it again and... screw it up worse than it was before??? GO AWAY! Stop upgrading. Enough is enough. Now. How much do you want to bet that this comment wont stick? I have it copied just in case. Stupid.

I'll give these a whirl, but actually, Google Chrome does the same thing, and I am wondering if it is Mac OS X. Whatever... it just seems like since I began with computers in 1996 there have always been these types of issues, new technologies that are incompatible with God knows what, causing a person to spend hours troubleshooting or just bearing it trying not to throw the damn thing out the window. Which by the way, I have actually done.
Capitalism SUCKS if that is what is behind all this "creative" energy being pit one against the other in endless competition to "improve" which only ends up making everything conflict and... well, maybe Ted Kazinski wasn't all wrong.

  • Bug - If more then one tab is open and you try to swap tabs or close a tab Firefox closes completely sometimes. This happens on a desktop and 2 laptops I own.

The first time I reported this was Jul 12. The link back did not work. Since Jul 12 I have been on my daughters desktop, my girlfriends desktop, my laptop and desktop and they will all do the same thing periodically. When more than one tab is open and you try to swap or close a tab Firefox closes completely.
When I re-open Firefox I never get an error message to report back to Firefox support. Most of the time I get the "This is embarrassing" message and the restore tabs works.
I should have been reported by other people. Please respond, I will check my email a few times a day, Thank you

    (previous message was https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/849469
you are supposed to update that message for more help, likely no one has an answer).
If it were the last tab not multiple tabs then it would have been:
If you only had one tab open and id not always show the tab strip, that you would close the tab bar.
Tools > Options > Tabs > [x] Always show the tab bar
Make sure you have that option on, it is easy to restore a tab if you still have the tab bar you or something closes two tabs as you say. To restore last tab use Ctrl+Shift+T , if two tabs restore that tab as well with same shortcut. Rather than fishing around for it in the History menu as a closed tab, closed window, or a previous session.
Another possibility is that if there is one extension that mixed up the options like "Close Tab by Double Click" there are probably other extensions that did that as well. If you had that you might have to use the much larger "Tab Clicking Options" and turn off everything but closing a tab on double-click.
: which is not updated for Firefox 5.0, so you would have to override compatibility (it works) with
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)]. • Firefox updated and now when I try to open up a web page, Firefox completely closes the browser. When I open it back up, it asks to restore the session. What happened???!!

When you bring up the browser and type in Church of God's Messengers, it brings up the links. When you click on the links, it closes Firefox completely. When you bring back up Firefox it asks you if you want to restore the session. I never used to have problems accessing the site. What happened???!!!

  • Is there a possibility to clear ONLY the COMPLETED downloads when a button is clicked in firefox?

is there any way (natively, or by using an extension) to clear ONLY the COMPLETED downloads when a button is clicked in firefox. it should not clear the paused, failed or cancelled downloads. - similar to the functionality in INTERNET DOWNLOAD MANAGER software by TONEC. i have searched lots but could not find such a function. :(

Along the lines of cor-el's last post, if you want to delete most of the downloads, you can select the entire list using Ctrl+a then Ctrl+click the ones you want to exclude from the selection.
In some cases, Firefox supports "places queries" to drill down on specific kinds of history. However, I didn't see one for downloads documented in the MDN article, so I'm not sure whether there is a way to query just for successfully completed downloads.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • On Windows 7 Enterprise OS, Firefox failed to start when upgrading to any higher versions after 6.0.2

    Hi
Please can you help me with this?
Currently I am running Firefox version 6.0.2 on my Windows 7 Enterprise OS Desktop.
When I try to update Firefox, installations completes successfully. However when trying to launch Firefox, browser window is not opened. It was showing a 'Firefox failed to start' error message for versions before 11. For the latest version i.e 11, no error messages are displayed. When trying to launch application, no browser window is opened, but I can see Firefox process running in Task Manager. I tried to do a clean install by removing all add-ins and also deleting Firefox folder under program files. It did not solve the problem.
    Thanks
    Chandra

Ok, well let's try going straight to what the problem probably is, a corrupted profile.
Can you please read [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles], and create a new testing profile? Start Firefox 6 up using the new profile, then close it. After you've done that, upgrade to Firefox 11, and try starting, again using the new profile. If everything works, then you just had a corrupted profile, and you can read [[Recovering important data from an old profile|Recovering important data from an old profile]], which explains how to transfer your data from your old one to your new profile.
Let me know if this helps!

  • Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

Born2die! Brilliant. I am a desktop clicker and never knew Firefox had a safe mode.
    Thank You!
I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?
    I have:
Java Console 6.0.11, Java Console 6.0.13, Java Console 6.0.15
Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?

I fixed it!!! Following advice from similar posts, I searched the hard drive for "sessionrestore.js" in my Firefox Profiles folder (you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View (then select Hidden files option) then Apply to all folders) to do this). I then shut down Firefox, deleted the file and restarted - my home page was correct and it didn't try to open my old session! Some other posts suggested deleting everything called "sessionrestore" in that folder, but I didn't need to.

Sounds like a "hang at exit" problem. There are several possible causes for that error. See:
    * How to stop the running Firefox process

If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes '''<u>before</u>''' starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
** If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling '''<u>one at a time</u>''' until the problem reappears. '''<u>You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change</u>''' via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • Why is Firefox painfully slow/unresponsice when I return from a website to a search list?

If I do a search, and open a website off the search results in Firefox, then close the website to return to the list, Firefox is completely unresponsive for a period - won't return to the pointing hand, just an arrow, which does nothing. It has been like this for a while. I thought it might be Kaspersky 2013, but switching it off makes little difference. It is so slow that it makes Firefox almost unusable.

I have uninstalled Kaspersky (licence expired now anyway) and installed Norton. It is not so bad as when Kaspersky was in use, but is still slow.
