Firefox Add-on won't uninstall

I'm on a Vista laptop using Firefox 3.5.3. The "HP Smart Web Printing 4.05" automatically installed(or I didn't uncheck the box) and is not compatible with my version of firefox, but the option to uninstall is greyed out and not clickable. Any suggestions on what I should do about this?
Thanks!

  • How do I uninstall Firefox?--it won't uninstall, even though I click on Uninstall.

Firefox keeps crashing, and I keep sending reports, asking for help with this problem, but I get nothing! I want Firefox off my computer, but when I try to Uninstall, nothing happens. I've even tried to download the latest version, but all I get is a sign-up for the newsletter--wow, could this site be more incompetent????

I have not heard of any access code being required...
Try using the helper.exe file. Open the following folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall
Then double-click helper.exe to run it normally. If you get the same error, cancel out and try this:
Right-click helper.exe and choose "Run as administrator"
Can you get it to run?

  • Firefox 6 can't open add-ons manager to uninstall yahoo toobar which installed by itself.

Yahoo toobar installed itself on my computer and I can't open Add-ons manager to uninstall it. Add-ons manager window just keeps trying to load but won't load.

Open the Firefox Safe Mode and un-install that Yahoo Toolbar extension from there.

  • Installed 4.0 - Firefox Start Page won't go away - why aren't homepage and add-ons saving?

After installing Firefox 4.0 the Start Page and Welcome to Firefox page returns each time I start Firefox. My homepage and add-ons won't save.

Thank you very much. I reset Firefox and it worked. I knew of MalwareBytes but had no intention of installing it before. I decided to install it anyway now and it even found 3 trojans that my Avira couldn't.
My first instinct was to reset Firefox to it's default state but I was afraid of losing my bookmarks, cookies, site preferences etc. so I didn't even bother. Now that I saw it was my last hope, I saw there is actually a phase between clicking the "Reset Firefox" button and the action being executed. The phase explains what the button will do and asks if you agree. I did not know that and I am really happy I could keep my old stuff.
Thanks a bunch, even if my instincts were right, I wouldn't have bothered to reset Firefox just because I'd be too lazy to get every setting back to how it was.
    Thanks again!

  • Trying to install autofills, now firefox add-ons are all out of whack. think i might need to uninstall and re-install add-onns?

I had been trying to add on autofills in firefox, and have managed to throw EVERYTHING out of kilter, and I don't know enough about the Firefox add-ons feature to know where to begin to repair it to normal conditions. Suffice to say that the autofill add on feature does not work at all.

Which autofill extension did you install?
Did you check for reported issues in the comments on its Add-on page?
If the extension isn't working properly then you need to uninstall this extension and possibly look for another extension.

  • NoScript won't uninstall / isn't listed as an Extension and getting angry about it, try this, it worked for me

Your reviews of the standard articles by forum junkies that just shoot out links of more engineering pages like this one are resulting in slamming the mouse, pounding the
keyboard and cussing aloud that even your cat probably won't be emerging for a few days, articles such as these that might already be highlited visited and open using Internet
Explorer or Chrome since you're pondering uninstalling firefox.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_add-ons
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Uninstalling+add-ons
I'll quickly glean for a moment why you won't uninstall it without difficulty before I explain how to just turn it off but you'll still keep it sort of like dermatological
shingles, you've already had the outbreak and as long as you don't do something risky to reawken, you won't see it again.
You can't remove it from the extensions likely because it was "embedded" in your particular FF install. I'm careful to avoid definitive statements since nothing is definitive in
a 20 year old buggy operating system of Windows and the hoops that decent software like firefox has to jump through just to protect us on MS Windows. This hole NoScript
nightmare might be happening to you on something else like a MaC or anything, it doesn't matter cause my fix is the same, there might be other methods and I hope others
    constructively contribute.
Whenever I post this question and discovery elsewhere like Stack or DevGuru, it always gets invaded by the followers, the engineers who almost cultishly question why would
anyone remove or disable NoScript, how dare would anyone do such a thing. These people are missing the point, it has nothing to do with the quality, it has to do with ownership
and they can dismissively write us off to being hacked, whatever, that is our decision to do so regardless of the "elegance of NoScript", the reasons we choose to stop using it
ARE OUR OWN REASONS AND NUNYA BUSINESS.
    A FIX:
By now you've probably learned the "about:config" option in FF, in your address bar enter:
    about:config
If you don't have the address bar and just use shortcuts, use your Windows kyboard and press Ctrl and the "L" key for which should hopefully start an address bar unless
NoScript disabled it or demands confirmation 1
Press the enter key on your keyboard, or the go, whatever you normally do to press forward to your web site, NoScript might prevent you from opening the config like the HAL9000 stopping Dave Bowman from deactivating him. Just press forward and advise NoScript you wanna keep going.
    Scroll down or find
    noscript.autoAllow
Notice if it is set True or 1, change it to 0 or False.
Have to restart FF to affect the change, if this solved your version of the problem, please reutrn to say as much, vote it up with an up click, if it didn't work, share as much as you're willing to before you get fed up and slam your fist through the monitor or this computer out of the window of a moving car.
NoScript isn't evil, the author is revered and he creates and maintains it for free, you might be having a hard time removing it because it was embedded with your FireFox install. Somewhere you or someone else decided you needed a specialized version of fireFox such as the ToR version for anonymous web browsing from site operators, maybe someone did it and only told you in passing and you forgot, coulda been they didn't understand what they were installing and failed to adequately explain it.
At this moment, you're feeling proprietary and want more control of your browsing experience.
I know a few ways to uninstall it but it requires software recompiling which is like genetic rengineering if you don't already know software development and you should probably avoid trying to learn it since it obviously ain't your profession. You don't try to learn dentistry just to drill your own cavity.
You can do other things to save your settings and uninstall / reinstall a new version of FF, there are other ways to uninstall NoScript or kneecap it, and we're intereeted in hearing how.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.

  • Itunes won't uninstall so can reinstall

everytime i try to upgrade itunes i run into a different problem. this time my old itunes won't uninstall so the new one can install. and now i can't even open the old itunes or uninstall it myself. i'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers so if you could dumb it down when you answer this it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

when i try to install itunes 7.1.1 the following message comes up:
'the feature you are tryting to use is on a netwotk resource that is unavaliable
Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path a a folder containing the insallation package 'Itunes.msi' in the box below'
with that one, try the following procedure (mariza, this is probably worth a try with your one too):
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

  • I want to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox but I can't uninstall it. Nothing happens when I click remove in program access and defaults and the helper.exe file in the firefox uninstall dir doesn't do anything either.

I want to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox but I can't uninstall it. Nothing happens when I click remove in program access and defaults and the helper.exe file in the firefox uninstall dir doesn't do anything either.

"program access and defaults" is not the place to remove programs in Windows. You need to go to the control panel and click on Add and Remove programs. For instructions on how to uninstall Firefox, see [[Uninstalling Firefox]]

  • How do I switch back to 3.6? I use Norton 360 and it doesn't work with Firefox 4. I have uninstalled 4 and try to reinstall 3.6 from my downloads but it deleted 3.6 exe when it installed 4. I WANT 3.6 BACK.

Norton isn't supported on Firefox 4. I don't trust ANY web browser that I can't use Norton on. I had no complaints with it when I had Firefox 3.6. I want to reinstall 3.6 but can't. I have looked all over for a download but every one comes back to Firefox 4.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • I did a restore to get rid of updated firefox. know it won't open how do i get it to open & get my tabs back

i did a restore to get rid of updated firefox. know it won't open. how do i get it to open? The reason I got rid of the update is because it would not create multipal tabs of the same website, & i lost my tabs to boot. can anyone help with this?

*Press the Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to Tab" and see the URL.
*Use the cursor Right key to select an item marked as Switch to Tab in the drop down list and copy the URL to the location bar.
*Open the URL in a new tab by using Alt + Enter on the highlighted entry.
*Open the URL in the current tab by using Shift + Enter on the highlighted entry.
If you use a system restore then you have the risk that not all files are reverted to previous versions and you most likely have corrupted your Firefox installation.<br />
You will have to do a clean reinstall of Firefox and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).<br />
Your personal data is stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure not to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Trying to install Cs2 but old indesign won't uninstall or repair?

Trying to install the "new" posted on adobe, Cs2. Win vista for business. 1st step- add/remove programs. old indesign won't uninstall or repair! Get " was interrupted - try again" "can't find xxxxx file in dat 1 cabinet" ???
Searched forums for hours now! Help please!

Just went back through my start menu, and it CS, not CS2 that would not install under any condition on Windows 7. CS2 is running in the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine. XP mode is a free feature of Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, and does not install on Vista.
That said, you can download and install Windows Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/virtual-pc-2007.aspx) which is a virtualization environment, and you can install Windows XP as a virtual machine from a set of XP disks.
There are people (and you seem to be one) who have successfully, more or less, gotten CS2 to install on Vista. I never ran Vista, so I'm shooting in the dark here a bit, but I would make the following recommendations for trying to get the programs installed:
First, run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs like Anti-virus and spyware scanners, third party firewalls, instant messengers, iTunes, browser helpers and toolbars, etc, and also go to the Services tab, hide all Microsoft services, and you can probably turn off just about everything that is left (lots of antivirus stuff runs as a service, for example). Re-boot into an adminsitrator account, cancel MSConfig when it reopens, and find the downloaded installer. If you have not already run the .exe file to extract the installer, do that next.
Once the installer is extracted, find the Setup.exe file, and right click it. In Windows 7 I have an entry to Troubleshoot Compatibility, and hopefully you have something similar. Choosing that gives me two options, Use Recommended Settings, which might work, but there's no indication of what they might be, or Troubleshoot Program. Choosing that should bring up another dialog where hopefully you can see a checkbox that says the program used to work in an earlier version, which you should check, and clear any others, then press next, which should bring up a list of previous versions where you can select Windows XP.
From there it should run the setup program in XP comaptibility mode, and once installed you should be able to set the program itself to also run in XP compatibility mode.
When the installation is complete you can run MSConfig again and click the Normal Startup radio button and reboot.

  • Adobe reader won't 'uninstall'

I can't print pdfs or download pdfs on the web since downloading adobe reader 9.  The previous version (reader 8) failed to uninstall and I am unable to use 'remove programme' to remove either version of reader.   The error message reads,  patch cannot be found.
Can anyone offer a solution?  I believe I need to uninstall all the adobe files and reinstall afresh but can't do it with add/remove programmes.

    Thank you Claudio,
Your suggestion worked perfectly. I am very grateful.

You may want to try running this fix from Microsoft and uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall If you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.Replies to this message go to everyone subscribed to this thread, not directly to the person who posted the message. • Programs hijacking my Firefox add-ons page

I recently updated Flash etc. when asked, but i also installed a Firefox add-on called YouTube Unblocker, which is supposed to (and does!) do what it says.
Now a few saved web pages involved with WordPress tips and my Add-ons Page are hijacked by Yahoo search results.
I've tried setting the default search engine to Google (successful) and doing the about:config change, but this takeover still happens.
I can't uninstall the YouTube thing as my Add-ons page stays for only 2 seconds! CleanMyMac can't do an uninstall as the progarm does not show up.
All ther stored web pages are unaffected.
    Can anyone help?

    Date and time correct.
Everything was fine until I updated to FF 4.01

No matter what website I try to go to, Firefox adds https to the front and then shows a problem with the security certificate and won't let me see the site. So for example, I type this EXACT address in the address bar:
