Firefox address bar interpreters any string as a domain if you have: dot string before it

I've tried addons (omnibar, foobar) that I expected would fix this issue, which is basically in this example:
website.com -> will be interpreted as a domain, which it should do.
program.callprocess -> will be interpreted as a domain, which it should not.
But neither did that.
So I'm wondering if it is even possible or if this is something only Firefox devs can do?
EDIT: ironically here it is interpreted as it should.

You can disable keyword search (keyword.enable = false) and use a (one letter) keyword search for searching via the location bar. 
You can add a keyword to an installed search engine via Manage Search Engines (click the search engines icon on the search bar) and you can add a keyword to a bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Show All Bookmarks).

That will allow to switch easily between search engines when you search via the location bar and there also is no problem with a one word search.

Thank you for details of the issue you are experiencing with duplicates in Contacts after upgrading to OS X Mavericks. I would be frustrated by this too.

After clean install Firefox address bar does not respond.Have to use goolge seach to go to a website.

I have just installed Firefox. I completely removed the prior install.Typing into the address bar produces no results.Typing in the right side of the address bar gets no results.Checking the manage search tab, brings up a blank box. If I click on the get more tab in the box there is no response.The only way i can go to a site is by typing in the Google box, or going to history and clicking on a site.

Everytime I search something in the firefox address bar for it to automatically find the site, I am redirected to a place called Sitelutions instead of my page.

Basically, every time I enter a search into the address bar (like "google" or "facebook" with out the .com extension) I get redirected to a page which seems to be owned by Sitelutions telling me:
"The website google{hpfromuri} is (or was) utilizing the Sitelutions Redirection Engine. Unfortunately, the URL has been entered incorrectly, or the site has been deleted by its owner. Below are some of our other services and features that we offer."

Normally it will go to the page directly. I am thinking it could possibly be some kind of Trojan or some spyware may have crept its way on to my computer and is causing this, but my virus software is not picking it up (Avast! and Malware Bytes).

Could be caused by Malware, or even a Rootkit virus, but re-directs caused by either of those usually affect pages loaded from a Search webpage - not from the Location bar.

Firefox Address Bar Loses Focus

When I'm typing in the address bar on Firefox, it stops accepting keyboard input and focus has to be brought back to it in order to continue typing. I've tinkered around with my sticky mouse focus settings to check if that was the issue, but still the same problem. I had this problem forever ago in the past, but it went away while I've been using EvilWM for the last few years. It just came back now that I've switched back to Awesome. I've searched on Google for any relevant threads, but didn't have any luck. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this or links to some relevant threads that'd be great. This is the most irritating minor bug that I'm facing right now.

It doesn't work. The cursor is still in the address bar, and no other keys work at the same time. For instance I can't close the tab, hit enter, or anything. I have to click in the address bar to continue typing or do any of those things.
Edit: Actually quickly switching to another workspace and coming back lets me continue typing.
I've just installed vimperator which does away with the problem entirely, but I'd still like to know how to fix this in case I decide to switch back at some point.

I no longer have any toolbars, address bar or any access to any usual functions. How can I restore these functions in my browser?

All functions are gone from the top of my browser - no menu bar, no tool bars of any kind, no address bar... nothing. Right click or left click - nothing to use. How can I restore these common functions?

Text does not display in address bar or any windows I open

Text does not display when typing in address bar. When I open a window (eg Edit > Preferences) no text is displayed within that either.
Problem has persisted through Ubuntu 12.04 (possibly 11.10) to 13.04. Has also remained after re-installs, both through use of Software Centre, and through Terminal commands, and after running purge of all firefox content.
Running Firefox as root using gksu command also doesnt help.

Have finally solved,
1st checked default system fonts available using unity-tweak
Then went to ~.mozilla/firefox and found prefs.js file, deleted everything to do with fonts and families, saved and restarted.
The odd thing is how this file persisted despite removing and purging firefox.

Firefox address bar sometimes fails...

Every now and then, firefox doesn't autocomplete when I type in the address bar. After every letter I type, autcompletion shows up for like a 1/100 of a second, you have to look really good to notice it . It seems to come and go quite randomly. It's not a big annoyance but just a strange firefox bug.
Anyone else noticed this?

It's probably related to Firefox's tooltips doing the same thing (flicker into visibility very briefly and then disappear). If I change tabs and come back again, it normally fixes that.

No website is opening through firefox address bar how to solve this

I think because of some virus or some configuration problem. The url which I type in the address bar is not opening. However I can search through google toolbar and google website. I get links when I click them website is opening but not opening through address bar also the suggestions are not loading in address bar. In the address bar,when I click enter it wont go,i have to click the arrow? this changed about two days ago. Id really like to get it to go back to just clicking enter and it goes.

This issue can be caused by an extension that is not working properly. 
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Under the address bar it continually reads"Downloading the lastest applications"! Never did this before. How do i get rid of it.

Opening yahoo from tool bar, opens a tab to the left but you have to scholl to read

When iI open yahoomail from the tool bar, it opens a tab to the left and you have to school to read it. if I open it after opening another tab and use book marks it will open in a full tab and work , or least it use too before it stopped working, but this you are working on. It is not much good to have to school.

Is that a bookmark you are using to open Yahoo Mail?
If so, right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.
Using JavaScript buttons on web pages for "Bookmark this Page" causes that preference to be selected when saving the bookmark in that manner. So, don't use those buttons, use the "Bookmark this Page" feature that is built into Firefox instead.

Keystrokes do not reflect what I am trying to type in Firefox 34. This just started today. I had to use IE Explorer which I hate to send this to you. I reset firefox twice but no help. On an iMac I can't enter any text in safari or Firefox header bar. In all my program's I just have the arrow cursor and can't change to any tools in the tool bars - please help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
