Firefox, Adium Issues

Whenever I start my MacBook Pro, iMac or my wife starts her MacBook Pro. Once we launch Firefox says its not the default browser and asks if we want to make it the default browser and we select Yes but it does it every single time like its not saving our selection or something...
Same thing when we start Adium says its not the default Instant Messaging client and if we want to make it the default we select Yes but everytime still comes up and keep selecting yes... really getting annoying.
Anyone have any idea's on how to fix this so it stops?

Was Safari open when Firefox set itself to the default browser?
In any case, if it's set that way in Safari, just turn off the request/notification in Firefox - Firefox menu > Preferences > General tab, UNcheck the box to "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup".
If that fails, you might try deleting the .plist files for Firefox and Adium (in ~Library/Preferences):
org.mozilla.firefox.plist
com.adiumX.adiumX.plist
Hope this helps...

  • Firefox 11 Issue with rollover buttons, or...?

I've created a top-level navigation scheme in Muse, consisting of 4 tabs.
Demand Generation | Marketing Automation | Marketing Operations | Blog
The first tab's rollover functionality (Demand Generation) works fine, No matter where I move my mouse on this tab, the rollover works fine and the sub-menus display properly.
The other 3 tabs seem to have gaps in the rollover hotspots. If you move your mouse across any of the text (Marketing Automation | Marketing Operations | Blog) you'll notice that the rollover functionality appears and then dissappears at different places along the text. The sub-menus also appear and dissapear at different spots as well.
I've checked the 'Edit Together' box within the navigation, but can't figure out why only the first tab works and not the rest.
BTW: This is only an issue in Firefox . It works fine in IE.
Click here to see for yourself: http://www.crowds2crowds.com
Any idea what might be happening? Is it just a Firefox 11 issue or something else. I've checked each tab in Muse and they are all configured exactly the same. Its very odd that only the first tab works.
4/23/12 Update: This issue is also occuring with Safari.

I see the issue you're talking about, do you mind sending me your .muse file so I can take a look? Please send it to muse-support at adobe.com, along with a link to this thread. Please put "Attn: Colby" in the subject.

  • Firefox font issues

    System: eMac G3 running 10.3.9
Firefox: current (2.0.0.14), but affected prior versions also
    Classic installed? yes
    User-specific? yes
User has unique language preferences as international options? Yes. All languages, however, require an essentially Latin characterset. (Not Central European, Cyrillic, Chinese etc.) Same settings cause Firefox no issues on a machine running Tiger.
Persists on restart, after verifying/repairing disk, after repairing permissions etc.
Have tried trashing ~/Caches/Firefox and ~/Application Support/Firefox. Have also tried doing this, switching language order (so an English is top) in System Preferences and restarting Firefox with no effect.
Have tried trashing /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/uid.*, ~/Caches/Firefox, ~/Application Support/Firefox and logging out and back in.
Symptoms: fonts in location bar, dialog boxes etc. are small, wobbly and generally peculiar-looking as if they have been written in a cramped, wobbly hand. Errors in console.log are roughly as follows (sorry, I'm having to do this from memory):
    ... cannot map file /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/plugins/Default Plugin.plugin ...
    ... cannot map file /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/plugins/JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle ...
    ... cannot map file /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/plugins/MRJPlugin.plugin ...
three lines of errors specifically about the MRJPlugin
    ... cannot map file /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin ...
and similar lines for all entries in this directory (QT given as example)
Fonts in actual web pages appear OK.
Firefox -> Preferences -> Content shows nothing for Default Font. Under the advanced options, I have:
    Fonts for: Western
    proportional: serif
    serif: <blank>
    non-serif: <blank>
    monospace: <blank>
Allow pages to choose own fonts is checked.
    Default encoding: Western (ISO-something-I-forget-but-looked-normal)
Attempting to change a font yields an oddly restrictive list of options. For example, I might get "Times CY" or "Times CE" but not Times. All fonts seem to be non-English/non-Latin options.
No non-default fonts are installed at either user or system level other than any installed with applications such as Adobe Reader, AppleWorks etc. ~/Library/Fonts/ is empty.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hmm... Yes. I'll try that next time I'm on the machine in question. I'm pretty sure it is profile specific so would have thought a clean profile would solve issues that would show up here, but definitely worth checking.
Might be worth asking or searching at Mozilla's Firefox support forum-
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38
That was to be my next port of call. I posted here first because it seems to be specific to a particular Mac/version of the OS and to be specific to a user account but not a profile. Mainly, though, I posted here first because I'm already registered here and hate the proliferation of accounts I seem to need online these days! (I know I can post on the Mozilla forums anonymously but I'm fussy and like to know if anybody answers without having to keep checking. There's just no pleasing some of us...)

  • Firefox focus issues

    Hi!
I have a sometimes very irritating problem with Firefox. I have a Logitech G7 mouse with a tiltable wheel that I've set up to change tabs in forefox, and a sidebutton that I use to close tabs with. I'm just using xbindkeys to bind the mouse buttons to ctrl+page up, ctrl+page down and ctrl+w. The thing is that firefox sometimes seems to loose focus, and ignores keyboard commands. For example when I close my current tab with my mouse or by pressing ctrl+w, and then try to close the next tab too, it doesn't work. I have to click on another window or on the desktop to make firefox loose focus, and then click on firefox again. Then it starts working temporarily again.
I'm using Firefox 3.0b2 from AUR right now, but I had the same problem with Firefox 2 from extra too. I use gnome with metacity. I also have a couple of plugins installed, but I have tried without any plugins too. I also have the same problem on my laptop, and both my computers use Arch64.
So, does anyone know a solution to this? It's not such a big deal really, but I gets really annoying sometimes.

    arnuld wrote:
Aha... and I thought I am the only with Firefox issue
I use "wmii" and my Firefox always looses focus. In wmii, you can change to different TAGS (like Desktops in GNOME) using "ALT-#" If i have 3 tags opened and Firefox is running on tag-2 and I go to tag-3 to check my messages in pidgin and come back with "ALT-2" I do not see Firefox. I see only border of Firefox and between the border i see my background wallpaper . Clickign with mouse does not bring the focus in anyway..... Quite funny though.. It is happening very frequently , nearly all the time, even if I kill Firefox using <killall firefox-bin> or <kill -9 PID> , the problem remains as it is when I start Firefox again :\
This also seems to be a different problem from what I'm experiencing, but it seems like there are lots of different firefox focus issues. From your description it almost seems like firefox has crashed for you, since it is no longer drawing itself. Have you tried running firefox from a terminal, to see if you get any error messages?

  • Firefox slowness issues have been getting worse, when is it going to be re-coded? none of the "FIXES" ever work and my other browsers work just fine.

My frustrations with firefox continue to mount. All the supposed fixes are a waste of time. There is obviously a major code problem that needs to be addressed. Your solutions that you post just seem to be the same and never work. Users are not programmers and should not be expected to do your troubleshooting. I have been running a comparison lately using four different browsers to play a popular facebook game (Trainstation). (All browsers at the latest version)
    1. Firefox
    2. Internet Explorer
    3. Google Chrome
    4. Opera
to do the exact same thing in the game firefox was taking 20 to 30 seconds to complete (about half of the time completely freezing for several minutes.) where the next slowest browser (I.E.) was taking 2-3 seconds whilst opera was the fastest at almost instant, chrome almost as fast.
Firefox is also slow to load any page in general regardless of flash content.
Frequently I get "not responding" at the top of the window.
My system is a new Dell Inspiron with Intel Core I5 processor @ 2ghz and 6GB Ram, about 300GB free hard disk space. Windows 8.1
The game played requires the latest flash version which does not work on LINUX. However the linux firefox version is much faster. Perhaps there is a direct link for conflict with windows 8.1
Firefox also seems to have a memory leak, resources get dramatically worse if the browser is open for many hours. (this is not a problem with other browsers in general, except I.E. which exhibits this problem as well to a lesser degree. The freezing issue has also been a problem with Thunderbird lately as well, I do not have another e-mail client installed to compare to.

I have tried that already, I have seen that response in more than one forum in the past and it does not do anything. I also for the test of it, upgraded to the v29 beta version. Still is slow (not just the game i was playing which is on face book but also on the game developers site directly as well (http://portal.pixelfederation.com/trainstation/), using either does not matter as far as performance of the game. All sites and browsing is slower, as is startup loading my home page which is just google.com. I remember when firefox used to be blazing fast compared to others. I have also tried recreating a new profile, didn't help. tried a complete removal (including registry entries and all files, then a new fresh install, didn't help. someone on another forum suggested several tweaks in the about:config area, didn't help. something has changed dramatically in the last four or five versions. • Infuriating Firefox / Dreamweaver Issue - Please Help!

    Hello
I'm close to finishing a quick job for a friend -
    http://www.loveheadmistress.com/
It all works fine in Safari but is messing up in Firefox,
    Opera etc
The issue is with the swap image function on the main menu on
    the left.
When viewed in Safari all the images swap and restore fine
but in Firefox etc wen the first and last options in the menu are
rolled over the image disappears, giving a terrible strobe effect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really know very
little about web design as you can probably tell from the overall
    construction.
    Thanks!
I've posted this twice - any idea where the delete thread
    button is?

Hello, I read your post about the rollovers not working once
you import the html/images into DW. I am having the same problem,
and it's driving me crazy because it used to work fine. I haven't
    done anything differently.
So, I am wondering if you ever got a solution to this.
    Thanks!

  • Need help with Firefox display issue on one page of site

I have a page that W3C validates, displays properly in IE and Netscape, but does not display properly in Firefox. The issue is with a style class applied to the inner centered table. class= "vert_table" This class works on all of the other pages in the site, but not in this one.
    The page:
    http://www.redshift.com/~lorac/sdy-46-49.html
    The issue:
    < table class="vert_table" width="760" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bgcolor="#f1ebe8" >
The vertical rule does not display, and further down the page a dark left-right border appears starting with this text.
my mother, when I was wasting my life away not knowing who I was,
    and ends with:
Mojin: (hugging him) I don't expect you to love me. I just want you to live, that's all.
I have been looking through this code for two days, searching for any offending omission in code or redundancy that would break the page. I've searched for missing div tags but none are apparent to me. I'm hoping someone with fresh eyes can spot it right away.
It's odd that the page validates but Firefox cannot display it properly.
Sample page of code working properly:
    http://www.redshift.com/~lorac/sdy-41-45.html
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. Your suggestions sound interesting but I'd like to figure out why this particular page doesn't work when all of the others do. I'm sure it's just a little code thing that I'm overlooking.
I could revert back to a saved page, but I updated text and images on this page before the verticle border broke, so I don't want to lose those edits. And that is why I'd like to fix this one instead of redesigning the page.
BTW, I forgot to mention in my first post, GoLive CS, W2K.

  • Firefox layout issue, help!

I am working on a site for a local non-profit club and have a
question about how firefox views the pages. In safari the page
looks fine, but in firefox two images that are side by side in a
table are supposed to fuse together seamlessly, but they are
    offset. The site is
    www.upstatecruisers.net
so you can see what I am talking about. The issue is with the top
heading image that says "Upstate Cruisers.net" and the image on the
left of it. In firefox you can see that the images don't line up,
    however in Safari they do.
My question is how can I get the two images to line up
correctly in firefox. Can some one take a look at my code and give
me a hand? I am somewhat of a novice. Thanks!!

Click on the left image, and select the <td> cell it is
    in. You can
choose that from the list which runs across the foot of the
    design
window. You'll see that the image tag (at the foot of the
    page is
highlighted once you have clicked on it). The <td> you
    need to choose is
the first to the left of the image tag. Go to properties
    inspector
(Window>Properties) and choose 'Top' from the 'Vert' drop
    options.
Repeat the process for the image on the right.

  • Avast detects URL:MAL when opening firefox. No issue with IE or Chrome, after troubleshooting realized problem is NoScript addon. Can it have been infected?

    avast -network shield
    Infection Details
    URL: http://188.24.140.190/
    Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
    Infection: URL:Mal

    Hi Tyler,
    Thanks for quick reply
Initially after some troubleshooting I noticed that I could make infection pop up disappear:
From Configure how firefox connects to the internet -> changed from "use system proxy settings" to "auto-detect proxy settings" or "no proxy"
With this option modified, the pop up from avast didn't appear any longer when opening Firefox.
However I noticed that both Chrome and IE were set to work on the same "use system proxy settings" and they weren't causing problems...so I assumed the problem still has to be with firefox.
After changing back the option in firefox to "use system proxy" I got again the notice, but saw that when opening firefox in safe mode the issue was gone again.
I tracked it to the no script addon, after removing it, the issue disappear regardless of proxy config settings...when I reinstall it, it appears again.
I am now running in depth virus scans to see were the actual infection is.
It seems to me it is expoiting a vulnerability in this addon, I will try the reset also.

  • Firefox 12+ Issue with Dragging rotated div

On a div with text, i have double click event which rotates the div by 90 degrees and a drag event which lets the user to move the div around, with in its parent. Dragging normal text div works perfectly fine. I have problem when it's rotated 90 degrees or -90 degrees. There is slight shift in the div before it starts moving along with the mouse.
Here is an example of what I am talking about.
    http://jsfiddle.net/shore_haritha/sf43B/
I have this issue from firefox 12 through the latest version. When I looked at the Change log for Firefox 12 this is what I found.
"The element.getBoundingClientRect() method now considers effect of CSS transforms when computing the element's bounding rectangle."
Does anyone have an idea what is going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
I tried to recreate the issue you mentioned in the JSFiddle. To confirm, the issue is when the div is at 90 degrees and when you try to move this using the mouse (select the div and move), only at this stage does the div move a bit to the right and only then can you move it. The same issue doesn't happen when the div is horizontal (180 degrees). Did I get that right?
P.S: I tried to record the issue, but for some reason, I couldn't record the moving div using the recording tool.
    Thank you

  • Firefox 4 issue with certain websites and mp3s

Downloaded Firefox 4 for my Mac 10.6.7. I'm no longer able to watch certain videos (like those at adultswim.com) or listen to mp3s. Know this has to do with plugins, but I can't figure out which ones are the issue.

    Hi Fred-
I tried your suggestion, and both the sites I mention above loaded without issue. But I think hardware acceleration was already off:
When I went into the advanced preferences in safe mode, hardware acceleration was unchecked, which, according to the FF guidance I saw on safe mode, is the default in that mode. When I then relaunched FF in normal mode, acceleration was still unchecked. So unless starting in safe mode turned off the acceleration and that setting carried over to normal mode, I'm assuming it wasn't on in the first place.
Because the issue only occurs on a few sites, I'm assuming it is sloppy web design as opposed to a browser problem. I wonder if the issue could be related to the problem sites using Java or Flash, or some script that stymies Firefox, but I don't know how to check that.
The thing that bothers me is that the browser causes the whole system to hang while it struggles with loading the site. I'm no expert, but I don't think that should happen in a four-core, 2.8 GHz system with 6 GB of RAM.

So I have secondary headers lined up in the template I created...the text colors appear perfectly fine in IE but when I preview in Firefox I get an entirely different color.                 —Henry James, brother of Alice James </p>
<p>Named for and inspired by Alice James, whose tremendous gift for  writing went unrecognized during her lifetime, Alice James Books was  founded to ensure womens’ voices “had a chance.” As time passes, this  legacy carries on in what we do. Of course, we’ve expanded our mission  to offer voice to a diverse range of poets and poetic styles out there,  becoming a home for all strong and necessary voices in the poetry  community. </p>
<p>We continue to celebrate our roots and to be inspired by Alice  James, hoping our endeavors will ensure the continued support of poets  and poetry and lend voice to those who may be particularly  marginalized. We’ve tried earnestly to balance our mission and budget,  but deficit looms, and we need your help to achieve our modest  financial goals. </p>
<p>We hope that you like our books and authors, and that if  you’re a reader, an Alice, a lover of poetry, you’ll feel compelled to  help and join us in our cause: the preservation of this great art.  Alice James Books needs your generosity, attention, and hope for us to  end this fiscal year in the black, which basically means we’d really  like to be able to cover operating costs. </p>
<p>The press has grown significantly over the years, and we owe  many thanks to our generous supporters, who play a large role in  ensuring our stability and growth. Please <strong><a href="Donations.html">Make your donation</a></strong> to us now with the knowledge you’re doing something necessary and good. We invite you to enjoy the great <strong><a href="DonorBenefits.html">incentives</a></strong> we offer and to take part in AJB’s future. We hope soon to be able to  both thank and welcome you to our base of supporters, our circle of  friends. </p>

  • Firefox crashing issues

Every time I open Firefox, it crashes and it's very inconvenient. I have to restart 3 times, then the 4th time, I'm forced to go into Safe Mode for it to work.
    Thank You,
    Adam

Hello tallmediaman, try to [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems#w_turn-off-hardware-acceleration turn off hardware acceleration], and check it again.
    in safe mode :
    * The status of plug-ins is not affected.
    * Custom preferences are not affected.
    * All extensions are disabled.
    * The default theme is used, without a persona.
    * userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored.
    * The default toolbar layout is used.
    * The JIT Javascript compiler is disabled.
    * Hardware acceleration is disabled.
if the above does not solve the issue probably on of your extensions is the problem, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems#w_test-for-faulty-extensions Test for faulty extensions]

  • Firefox 6 doesn't recognise my latest Adobe flash player. It works with IE so I gather its a Firefox only issue.

Woke up to find my Firefox was updated automatically to Ver 6+.
The usual issues arose, with a few plugins not working. The annoying one is the Adobe flash player.
I downloaded the latest Flash player and installed Ver 10, however non of my webpages pick up on this. Any Flash content I wish to view (from a webpage) tells me to install the latest Flash player. Have done so 3 times to no avail? Any ideas?
NB: Switched on IE and flash worked fine on same websites.

IE uses a different version of Flash (ActiveX), than most other browsers use - the Plugin version, which is what Firefox needs.
1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />
    See this: <br />
