Firefox always opens disc on desktop

I just switched back to Firefox from Google Chrome (because Google Chrome's color management no longer works).
Every time I open Firefox, Firefox puts a disc on my desktop, and opens a second window that invites me to drag the Firefox file to the applications folder.
I have done that twice.
Firefox is in my application folder, but still, every time I open it, that "drag into app folder" window appears, and a disc mounts on the desktop.
How can I stop this?

If you're opening Firefox from the Dock, you probably dragged Firefox onto the Dock from the window that tells you to drag it to the applications folder. That means you're opening that copy of Firefox, on the downloaded disk image, and not the one in your Applications folder. Drag Firefox off the Dock, then open the Applications folder and find the copy there. Drag that one back to the Dock.

  • Despite setting a Home Page Firefox always opens in the last page viewed. How do I solve this?

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
Your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • Why Firefox always opens with last session tabs?

When I open firefox always opens with last session tabs? How can I fix it?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

  • 2 monitors; Firefox always opens in secondary monitor never main monitor. What is wrong?

I have 2 monitors with my desktop. No matter what I do, I cannot get Firefox to open on my main (No. 1) monitor. It always defaults to Monitor No. 2. This is frustrating particularly when I log in remotely and am working at the remote site with just one monitor, I cannot use Firefox because when I open it it goes to the secondary monitor and I can't retrieve it to move it to No. 1.
    Thank you.

If Firefox is maximized then make the window smaller and drag that window over to the correct monitor and close Firefox to save that setting.<br />
After restarting you can maximize again.

  • Firefox always opens maximized and does not save window size unless I delete localstore.rdf

I use Linux MInt 13 with Cinnamon 1.6.7. Since the updates to Firefox 17 came through the update manager, the program always opens maximized, no matter what state I close it in. When I de-maximize, it comes up in a different size and position than the last time.
Some googling turned up that this can be due to a corrupted localstore.rdf file, and indeed the window sizing works properly if I delete that before starting.
It also works propoerly in safe mode, but even a fresh install without any add-ons, search engines or anything opens in window mode at first startup, but will always open in the same place as the first time after I move and close it, and if I resize it, it goes back to always opening maximized.
Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Firefox always opens with a different URL than listed in the settings option, why?

The homepage in the settings option of the firefox browser has been set to www.google.com.
However it always opens with https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl.
    Why?
    Please advise!
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Don't worry, this should not cause any problems. Side to side, the sites look the same, just in the link it goes to it activates SSL security (That's good)

  • Since upgrading to version 32, firefox always opens old tabs when starting, even though i do not have this option set. Version 33.0.3 does the same.

When I updated Firefox to version 32, it started to always show my tabs from the last session when it is started. I tried changing the option "when Firefox starts" to all three of the available choices. None of these changed the behavior. It still opens the tabs that were last opened. I waited for the next release (33.0.3) but the behavior is still the same. I would like Firefox to open to my selected home page.
    I'm running Windows 7 Pro.

One possibility is that Firefox keeps crashing during shutdown, and so Firefox is recovering from a crash every time. But if you can see that it is shutting down normally in your testing, that probably isn't it.
Sometimes external software will create or update an optional settings file named user.js. For some reason, one of the things that often shows up in there is a preference to restore your previous session just once. However, because Firefox uses user.js to override your normal settings every time it starts, that then turns into a permanent change. To check for this and remove any user.js file you find, try this support article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Firefox always opens with the "search" tab even though I don't want it. How do I stop this?

When I open Firefox, it opens normally to my home page. But it also opens with the "search" tab, though I don't want it. How do I prevent this?

From the search page offered go to your chosen home page. Now move the mouse to the top left and scan the options for view, Toolbars and make sure that the "Menu bar" is ticked. This will show the File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks and tools options plus Help. Click on tools, then Options and select current page as your home page. All should now be sorted.

  • My firefox always opens at my last visited website, instead of my homepage. I have checked my setting, and have set it according but still it keeps doing the same thing

Firefox keeps opening at the last visited site; even though the option for the home page are set to open at google/firefox. I have changed the option also to blank page but still the same results.

Make sure that you close Firefox properly to prevent session restore from restoring the previous session automatically.

  • Firefox always opens to the pages I was on in the previous session, even though Google is my homepage and it is set to load to my homepage upon opening.

Every time I open a new session of Firefox, instead of it going to the homepage that I have selected, it simply loads all tabs from the previous session I closed. This even happens after I've turned off and back on my computer. I have the settings so that my homepage is Google, and it is set to always go to my homepage upon startup. Addons is not the problem, I have not installed any new addons, and this is only a recent problem. I think it is a problem with Firefox itself, but of course there is no Mozilla customer service to speak to. I can see on the forums that many people are having this same problem right now. Please Mozilla, if you actually look at the forums, FIX THIS!!! Any anyone providing replies, please do not tell me to check my settings, because they are all correct, and the problem is NOT third party software. There is also NO file in my profile folder called user.js, so that is not the problem, either!

jennifer, if you just see a file titled "user", this is because your windows operating system is set to hide some file extensions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7
most probably this is exactly the user.js file to delete in order to address your problem...
though i can't say why it appeared in your case, you're right that many times this file is created by malicious software. therefore i'd recommend to run a scan with two security tools specialised on adware and browser hijackers: the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • My Google preferences are set to show search results in a new window. However, when I do a Google search, it Firefox always opens 2 new windows with the (same) results. How can I fix this?

I did not change my Google settings. I always have had it set to open search results in a new window. Some time ago, it started opening up two windows that have identical url/content.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
