Firefox always opens with a search box rather than my homepage.
I have dragged the icon over to the homepage icon, and responded "yes" that I want to set it as my homepage. It always opens with a search box instead. http://www.searchqu.com/406 is the URL. How can I get it to use my homepage?
i ran into a simuler problem using firefox 4 with win 7. browser would not display web address and when you open the browser it would display a blank page. also back, forward, and refresh button's where grayed out and could not click hem.
after checking plugins i was able to get it working with disableing java deployment toolkit.

When I open Firefox, it opens normally to my home page. But it also opens with the "search" tab, though I don't want it. How do I prevent this?
From the search page offered go to your chosen home page. Now move the mouse to the top left and scan the options for view, Toolbars and make sure that the "Menu bar" is ticked. This will show the File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks and tools options plus Help. Click on tools, then Options and select current page as your home page. All should now be sorted.

Ever since one of my kids tried to watch football on a website called crichd tv I keep getting pop us come up like Mackeeper and every time i try to open a web page it comes up with Smartsearch rather than google which is my preferred search engine in preferences. I have blocked extensions and changed homepage to google but this Smartsearch keeps overriding. Also a thing called MacKeeper keeps popping up I have followed the instructions to uninstall but the file it says to move to trash from the Applications folder but it simply isn't there or anywhere else. The file to uninstall Smartsearch is also not where they say it is in Library>frameworks>
Very frustrating from going from a perfectly working system to a now very frustrating and annoying pop ups coming uo after every time i open a new web page.
Any help or assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.
RussYou (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
Any tips on how to stop it from happening?
Yes. To learn how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
If you require them, Apple's removal instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required. -
Instead of opening on my homepage, firefox opens on blank page, it says new tab.
If I open it and open a second browser instance while the first is still open, the second instance will go to my home page as it should. I have tried reinstalling firefox.Sorry but this didnt help.
What happens is When I open firefox instead of going to my homepage which I set to Google.com via the options. It just opens a blank tab. Before if I opened firefox there was no tab unless I clicked on the little plus sign. It clearly states New Tab on the first thing when opened.I tried the
:New Tab Page – show, hide and customize top sites: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites#w_how-do-i-turn-the-new-tab-page-off. Did exactly as told but when I turn on firefox, same old thing. Now the weird part is if I open firefox I get what I just described, it opens with a blank new tab. But if I leave that instance open and open a 2nd browser, it opens to Google and looks fine! Very irritating . Also If I change the home page to Firefox homepage it works fine everytime. Seems they only want me going to thier page. -
Why Firefox always opens with last session tabs?
When I open firefox always opens with last session tabs? How can I fix it?
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer. -
Firefox always opens with a different URL than listed in the settings option, why?
The homepage in the settings option of the firefox browser has been set to www.google.com.
However it always opens with https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl.
Why?
Please advise!
Thanks.Hello,
Don't worry, this should not cause any problems. Side to side, the sites look the same, just in the link it goes to it activates SSL security (That's good) -
$ was totally jacked up, no tabs, no history, no buttons that worked and always opened on a blank page. I saved my bookmarks, uninstalled 4, reinstalled 3.6.16 and all my problems went away except for the oening on a blank page. As soon as I hit home, it opens.
Tnx,

When opening a new tab, the 'homepage' presented in the new tab is a Yahoo homepage. If however, I open a new session of Firefox rather than a new tab, I get my normal Google homepage.
For information about how to get rid of Yahoo see:

I have entered different settings for my home page, opening window etc but each time Firefox opens it's stuck on the same problem and asks if it should Restore or Start New Session, never starting up with my new options.
thx for any infoIt is possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

I open Firefox in new windows for sites I want to go to. I don't open in Tabs. Each time I open an new firefox window and when I restore the windows I had open, each site has an additional tab (2-tabs). The first tab is the site I want up the second tab is NEW TAB. I have to go through 10 to 14 Firefox windowe to close each 2nd and additional NEW TAB to individually close the NEW TABS. I had this before updating to the current Firefox and thought upgrading would solve this issue, but it didn't.
I started in safe Mode. I have the default theme. Starting in safe mode still gave me the same problem. I went back to the normal Firefox and still had the same problem. Yesterday I restarted my computer for 11 Windows updates. I am not going to spend all day starting and restarting my computer and removing my History and whatever else. Firefox should have a direct contact to it's users, to assist them instead of having their users work for them as forum responders and trouble shooters. This has already taken up way too much of my time.
I will say in normal Firefox the additional NEW TAB had no URL in it, but it did have the 12 icons on the page. In Safe Mode it had a URL that began with Chrome and it had a blank page, it didn't have the 12 icons as in normal mode. I don't have anything Chrome on my computer. -
Lastest version of Firefox always opens with Mozilla sceen. How do I eliminate this?
Both the Mozilla "net independence" screen and my start up home page screen opens. How do I eliminate the Mozilla screen?
Anzaron, 33.1.1 users should get a update to 34.0 only. The 34.0.5 is if you do a fresh install from mozilla.org. The two are the same with 34.0.5 making Yahoo be the default search engine instead of Google.

Screenshot of the options panel (that doesn't work):
http://img170.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=214144211_FF_122_209lo.jpgAll these "solutions" that have been offered to go to your settings and set your option to go to home page are 1.) not working and 2.) kind of a"duh". How many of us do you think have been set up like that for a few years now? And yet all of a sudden (i.e. new version of Firefox that apparently needs a little more testing...), this problem is occurring. It's getting really annoying too. We have defined home pages for a reason. Please correct this so we can return to them when we log in.

Firefox logo appears in a white box rather than using the background like 3.6
I just installed Firefox 4.0.on my xp sp3 laptop. My desktop, quick launch and startmenu Firefox icons are all on a white background. On the change page it says that the Firefox logo was updated, but I could not find a description of the update. How can I change the Firefox logo to a transparent background?
When I search the user area how do I make the search so that both words are in the results? The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

New tabs open Google homepage correctly but with cursor in text box rather than search box.
I have Google as my home page. When I open Firefox 7.0.1 the Google home page opens correctly with the cursor in the search box. I have set new tabs to also open in the home page. New tabs do open in Google but with the cursor in the text box rather than the search box. As I recall, this didn't happen before upgrading to 7.0.1 (actually, I think that I was using a tab configuration plug-in that may have been nuked in the Firefox update). This is driving me crazy, is there a solution for 7.0.1?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I am using Firefox 5.0.1.4205 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack1. My new tabs in Firefox open with a search engine for imvu rather than google as I would prefer. I can't find an answer to my problem so far because when I try the recommended use of about:config and finding browser.newtab.url; it is not listed. Is this version of firefox to old to have that, or is it just missing? What can I do to get my new tabs to open with a Google search engine. This is on my 80 year old father's computer so he is not likely to upgrade browsers as I would on my home computer. Thank you for any help with this.
The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.
Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.
Maybe this is what you're dealing with.
