Firefox and 10.4.6 update - got unusual flashes

Hi
After my 10.4.6. update, when I am using firefox... and loading a new webpage, sometimes my whole screen flashes to a blank blue screen on my mac mini (power pc) for no apparent reason. Didn't have this problem before the update. Has anyone else seen this?
Any solution to fix this since this is highly annoying? Safari also seems a bit slow...
I am thinking of reinstalling firefox... but apart from dragging the problem in the the trash, what other files I need to delete...??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HI ALban, as you will see from this forum quite a few of us are experienceing one sort of problem or another.
That must be very annoying to have it happen to firefox. It is much the most friendly browser around.
I think you have to delete the prefs files in library before re-installing it. But I just tried looking for them and couldn't find them so I guess you had better wait till someone with more knowledge than me gives help.
Goodluck
I will watch your thread with interest so I can learn more of the problem from others.
sorry I couldnt give more help.

    Question
    I have a MacBook and I am unable to successfully update Firefox. I click "Update Firefox" and it's starts updating but never completes the process. I sometimes leave it for hours and it's still updating! It's almost as if something is blocking it ffrom completing the process. Please help

    Next time an app update gets stuck try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons for10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. Wait till your iPad starts on it's own. Try now. Also YouTube is still available. If you can't find it the the app store go to the bottom of the app store page and tap purchased. All your deleted apps will be listed and you can reinstall YouTube from there.

  • Firefox and opera freeze after update.

    Hi,
    I updated he system last night and since then neither of firefox, firefox nightly or opera will play and video. I tried Cnn and Youtube. Both cause the browsers to freeze totally. It's not KDE because I also tried under E17 and it happens there as well.  Anyone got any ideas??
    BTW, I run pacman Suy daily so it's some thing that was dropped into release yesterday.
    Thanks

    My system is completely up to date and I'm using x264-git and I still have this problem.  Any other ideas?
    Edit
    Updated kernel 2.6.28.3-1 today(02/02/09) and the problem just disappeared.  Strange.  Perhaps a kernel rebuild is what does the trick?
    Edit2:
    Nevermind.  Happening again.
    Edit3:
    Ok fixed it finally.  Turned out i was missing some sound modules in rc.conf.  Used hwdetect to get the appropriate ones.

  • Each morning I get a notice to download a Firefox security update. When I click install, I get a message saying Installing Firefox and Connecting to the update server. It never connects; the progress bar just spins all day.

    Since shortly after installing Firefo 5 I get this message every time I start Firefox. A dialog box comes up that says Installing Firefox, followed by a spinning progress bar, followed by "connecting to the update server." It never progresses past this point and will stay this way indefinitely until I close the Window.
    Also since installing Firefox 5, the program crashes at least once or twice a day and I have to quit and restart. Don't know if there's any relationship between the two issues.

    If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Problems with Firefox and 10.6.5 update

    I just updated my iMac to 10.6.5. Now many of my favorite websites open for a couple of seconds but then quit unexpectedly. I ran the disk utility and there were no errors and then repaired permissions but the problem continues. Curiously, there is no problem using Safari so it appears to be a problem with 10.6.5 and Firefox only.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks Sig and ScuseMe.
    I thought I was running the most recent version of Firefox since I had just checked the Firefox updater today and it said no new updates were available. So when I read your posts and saw you two were using version 3.6.12, I checked which version I actually had in my Applications folder and it showed 3.5!!
    So I downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.12 and the problem is solved.
    Thanks very much guys...Apple folks are the best!

  • I just downloaded firefox, and am being asked to download adobe flash player. I already have this app.

    nuff said. Why does firefox not recognize the app? why is it asking me to save download (zip file?) instead of just downloading file when prompted? I'm tempted to just give up and let google chrome keep spying on me. At least that service didn't literally start giving me headaches the minute I downloaded

    There's two versions of Flash. The ActiveX version for IE and the Plugin version for most other browsers. Firefox needs the Plugin version.

  • Trying to update Firefox and I downloaded setup.exe, but then nothing happened

    I currently have 3.0.19 version of Firefox and finally decided to update since this version crashes whenever you go to google maps. My automatic updater did not work (error message was just that it failed for an unspecified reason). I went to the mozilla website and clicked on the free download button. It then asked if I wanted to save the Firefox 7.0.1 setup.exe which I saved to my Mozilla folder. Then nothing happened. When I clicked on the link if nothing automatically happens it just asks if I want to save the same file. I've restarted, but still have the same old firefox version. Is there more I need to download, or do I have to run something?

    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    *Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    *Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    *Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • [solved] flash in firefox not working after pacman update

    Hi everyone,
    I updated my system today using pacman -Syu and now flash isn't working in firefox.  In fact, opening a youtube video causes firefox to crash.  Before the update it worked fine.  I have flashplugin-11.2.202.406-1 installed.  I don't know where to start to fix this.
    I've already checked the about:plugins in firefox and it says that I have the flash plugin installed and its on always activate setting.
    Does anyone know where I can start to look for errors?

    The Flash Player is not running but it is there and it is enabled and Active X is not checked. The Player version is 16.0.0.305.  I have the latest ie11 and the latest W8.1. I have used the Adobe tool to delete the Flash and subsequently I have updated or reloaded Flash using your updater.  I have gone into IE options and insured that the settings are supportive of Flash.  The Adobe mini Flash test program on your site says it not enabled or Active X is enabled - not true - all is set as it should be.  I have gone through your forums but to no avail.  I've looked in MS forums but nothing that made any difference.  What's going on and what can I do about it?

    Try using Firefox. Flash usually works on Firefox when it won't on Safari. I noticed that the Safari does not show the same version as Firefox does. Iwonder if that could be the problem. Safari on the left shows 10.1, Firefox show 10.3

  • MOUSE_DOWN & MOUSE_UP events behaving strangely in firefox and internet explorer w/low framerate

    Basically what I'm seeing is that in Firefox and Internet Explorer only, using the latest flash plugins for each, when the framerate in my game drops due to a large number of display objects on screen (not unexpected behavior), MOUSE_DOWN and MOUSE_UP events seem to get queued up (this probably happens whether the framerate is low or not, but it doesn't have any adverse effects when the framerate is high). Flash will try to process every click that occurs, even though it can take up to several seconds. So, for example, if the user clicks the mouse 20 times in a second, but the framerate is running at around 5 fps, the game will be reacting to those clicks for around 3-5 seconds. It doesn't ignore any of them. This causes some strage behavior in our game and is not desirable. In the standalone flash player, and in Chrome browser, a large number of clicks in a short time frame does not have the same behavior. It seems to treat the most recent click with some priority, so it will cancel out a previous click. A single click in our game will cause an object to generate a path and move to the point on screen which was clicked (think point-and-click to move a walking 2D character).
    Since this behavior is so different in 2 browsers, could have something to do with how it's embedded, like the wmode parameter? That seems to be the only idea that comes up searching on Google. Is there some way in my code that I can forcibly make a new mouse_down get processed right away instead of waiting for previous events to complete?

    Ya, the problem isn't that events are coming in out of order, but rather they are somehow getting triggered at an unacceptably slow rate. It's not that the events are complicated. They merely set a boolean _isMouseDown to true and false (for MOUSE_DOWN, MOUSE_UP, respectively). But if I rapidly click, and then let go of the mouse, I'll see that boolean get set true,false,true,false,etc for a few seconds after I let go of the mouse. Why does this delay exist in Firefox and IE but not Chrome or the standalone player? It's almost as if Chrome and the standalone player let events be in their own thread while IE and Firefox, the events get held up, maybe because there is only one thread to use?

  • I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

    I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

    Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

    Hello,
    The latest version is 33.0.3. It is always safer '''not''' to trust a dialog that pops up without your interaction.
    Assuming your computer isn't infected with malware, a safe way to update is to go to:
    * Help (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]] > [[Image: Help-29]]) > About Firefox
    Or download a new copy at:
    * (stub installer) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
    * (for different localizations/full installer) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
    Never give your computer's control to anyone remotely, and don't contact any number unless its from the official website's Contact Us page. If you are worried that your computer has been infected with malware, any one of these forums specializing in malware removal can help you:
    * Bleeping Computer - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums
    * Spyware Warrior Forums - http://www.spywarewarrior.com/index.php
    * SWI Forums - http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/

  • Just updated Firefox and got message to update Flash, too; Flash refused to install; please see further details below.

    Just updated Firefox and got message from Firefox to update Flash, too. I downloaded flash, but it repeatedly failed to install, even after I followed recommendations on Adobe's troubleshooting page. Adobe's support person said he'd gotten lots of calls from Firefox users with the same problem in recent days. He said Firefox was unresponsive. He recommended Google Chrome browser instead. I don't want to switch. Please Advise.
