Firefox and a Linksys router

I run a bed and breakfast. I have a Linksys router (EA6200). Through the Linksys support, I have found solutions to help the sign in page appear for my guests in IE and Google Chrome. Unfortunately, it still doesn't load in Firefox.
I want this to work just like when you go into a coffee shop or a fast food restaurant with WiFi. I don't want to be telling guests that they must do this or that unless it is really simple to do.
Any reason why this doesn't work in Firefox and how to correct it?

Hi stevensj5, none of those worked: reload bypassing cache, going to a new site not visited before, or running a search from the search bar?
I wonder whether part of the problem is HTTPS. If you request a regular HTTP page does the router intercept it?

I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?
    Appreciate your assistance.

The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired.

  • Problems consering use of Chromecast and my Linksys router together

Hi, I have a problem with my Linksys router type CL7B1K148596
    Model no: WRTS54GL
    Ver. 1.1
I want to use this routher together with my Chromecast wireless unit to stream from my net to my procector, is this router compatible with the Chromecast unit?

Yes. Use the link FurryNutz had provided you. Make sure that you choose the Hardware version to 1.1. You also need to check what's the current firmware version of your router. You may refer to this link on the steps of updating the router firmware: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e9c2361ee7974d75913e61386a712188_4030.xml&pid=80&r...

  • I'm Able to connect AE to Linksys Router: Some tTps

    OK:
For several weeks (off & on) I have been trying to connect my Airport Express to my Linksys WRT54G wireless router network, but have run into several recurring bottlenecks. Well, I feel that I have busted through the dam yesterday, based on some feedback from folks, along with a lot of trial and error. Below, I address a couple of problems that keep recurring in this forum.
    *Problem 1:*
My AE in no longer seen on my network.
    Solution:
My AE should have its own Apple ad-hoc network, if all I have powered-on is my laptop, the AE and a set of powered speakers that the AE will stream music to.
The AE's ad-hoc network should show up in your system tray's connection window
with a name similar to "Apple Network XXXXXX" , where XXXXXX represent the AE's 6-rightmost hex digits of its 12-digit hex MAC (Media Access Control) address.
Last week, I did a complete factory reset on the AE. Yesterday, when I tried to have the laptop generate an ad-hoc network, it couldn't: it kept trying to attach to a prior network that I had created with my router (which by the way, is currently turned off), but couldn't find it. I did several more factory resets, with no luck. The AE would not generate the ad-hoc network ! I tried both, with and without an Ethernet cable running from the AE to the laptop.
Frustrated, I took a gamble and did an "intermediate" reset of the AE.
Note: The AE is wired to the laptop, plugged in, with stereo speakers connected and turned-on. Using a paper clip, I pressed-in the AE's reset button, and held it for ~10 seconds. It worked I could now see my "Apple Network XXXXXX" ad-hoc connection listed in my system tray's list of networks to connect to.
Now that I had the ad-hoc network for the AE, the question was to figure out how to add this device (the AE) to the Linksys router's wireless network.
    *Problem 2:*
I'm unable to add the AE to my existing Linksys wireless network.
    Solution:
I turned on the cable modem and the Linksys router, and let them boot.
At this point , I have the AE hardwired to the router via Ethernet cable.
I opened the Linksys Easy Setup (or similar name) Help tool to view what the Linksys tool could see. It saw that the laptop was connected to the router, but not the AE. Initially, the laptop was connected via Ethernet cable to the router, but I then made that a wireless connection withe the Easy Setup.
I opened Airport Utility and proceeded to configure the network for AE, via a Manual setup. Airport Utility was able to see my ad-hoc network and saw the AE, with its name "Apple Network XXXXXX".
I wanted to have the AE join my existing 64/40-bit WEP wireless network.
I had followed all of the prior advice but with no luck.
    Here's the kicker:
On one of the the Airport Utility tabs:
You want to select to "Join A Wireless Network".
On the tab that has the checkboxes , check your settings:
"Remember this password in my keychain" (Optional, I have it checked)
    "Set time automatically" (unchecked)
"Advertise configuration globally using Bonjour" (unchecked)
If you have the "time" and/or "Bonjour" checkboxes checked, you will get a different set of network connection types to select from under the Wireless tab, and the typical WEP settings (WEP 60/40) won't be among the choices
This is where I was having problems. If you use the above checkbox settings,
you WILL get the WEP 40 in the drop-down menu to choose from under the Wireless tab. Make sure that the password/encryption key that you use for is the same that your used for when setting-up your wireless router. You do not have to precede it with a $ sign. (Example: when you setup your WEP-40/64 connection with your router, you had to use a 10-hex digit encryption key, or provide a 5 ASCII character Passcode that would be converted into a 10-digit hex encryption key. My advice: Forget about the PassCode...just type in a 10-hex-digit key into the Key 1 slot in the router setup, and USE THIS SAME KEY in Airport Utility. It will be 10 hex digits long, where hex-digits are 0-9, and A-F.
Finish the setup, and once Airport Utility reconfigures, you will get the solid green LED on the AE. At this point disconnect the Ethernet cable.
Now, open your router's setup program and check the network. You should now see the AE on the same network as your router and laptop, wirelessly !
Open iTunes. In the lower-right corner, you should see a dropdown menu from which you may select speakers. Select your speakers by the name you gave them.
Click on any tune that you have in iTunes, and click the Play button. You should now be able to hear the tune playing out of your speakers, wirelessly !
You are no longer using the ad-hoc network. You now have the AE connected to same same wireless network that your laptop is on, via the wireless router.
Music is playing from iTunes (via AirTunes) on your laptop, though the router to the AE, to the speakers, wirelessly !

you don't mention which products you use
only ipad2 and up support mirror
and only iphone4s and up support mirror
other devices only use airplay for apps which support tvout options

  • Airport will not connect to Linksys router after iDisk sync force quit

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here, kinda at my wits end.
A week ago I was video ichatting and restarted my MacBook because the video feed was sluggish. I thought a restart would help.
Unknown to me was that my iDisk was syncing. I recieved an warning dialogue box and was given the option of canceling the restart or force quitting the iDisk sync. I choose to force quit and proceed with the restart. After choosing to continue with the force quit I received an error message, it had the phrase "Mirror Agent" in it, and then my MacPro restarted.
Since that first restart, I have not been able to connect, using Airport, to my Linksys Wireless router (model # WRT54 GX4).
This is where it gets strange. Airport sees the router, displays a signal strength, shows up on my list of perfered networks...it displays all of the signs of a fully connected router but when I try to access the web, check mail or use iChat I cannot because Safari, Mail and iChat tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
When I ran the network dianogistic tool, it first asked me why I would want to run it because it thought I was already connected. After running the tool it still came back with the same results, I was connect to the internet. But I still couldn't launch Safari, it just hung.
This is where it gets really wierd. My wife, she's on a HP, can connect, using her built-in wireless card. Even after changing the Firmware on the Linksys router, her pc can still connect.
And here's the icing on the cake. There are some unprotected wireless networks on my street. I can connected to those but not my own! Something has to be blocking the signal between my AirPort card and the Linksys router. Does that make sense?
And if there is one saving grace to all of this, I still can connect to the web using the built-in Ethernet.
    Here's what I have tried:
Removed Perfered Network, restarted MAC, added network back, still no connectivity.
Removed security (was using WPA/WPA2) from the router still no connectivity.
Removed Airport Keychain, restarted MAC, added router back, still no connectivity.
Repaired the permissions on my HD, someone at work told me to try that, still no connectivity.
Updated firmware to Linksys router to version 1.00.20, no connectivity.
Rebooted Linksys router and cable modem, still no connectivity.
Thank you to all in advance for reading my rambling note and forgiving my poor spelling (it is way past my bedtime and the keys are really blurry). I am still very new to Mac's and appreiciate any help that you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Alan

Sounds like you have two wireless networks on the same channel.
Change the channel on the Airport Express.

  • G4 iMac w/ethernet connection to Linksys router - not happening.

    Hi,
My main goal is to provide wireless service to a new Toshiba notebook. I haven't been able to do that completely.
I bought a Linksys WRT54G broadband router in order to connect to my Westell Wirespeed modem (Verizon dsl service) and subsequently connect (via ethernet cable because I don't have an airport card ) my G4 iMac to the router and transmit signal to the new notebook from the router. My iMac has always had connection when connected to the Westell modem but it now won't connect when wired to the Linksys router. Is it a compatibility issue between the iMac and the Linksys router? Or something else?
This is the way the Linksys instructions say to connect everything. I have tried many times to restart, power down, power up all the components.
    Thank you.

    Hello
    I have a G3 iBook running 10.3.9 (wireless) and a Linksys router.
I now also have PC laptop running Windows XP Home edition (wireless).
I have been able to set up the Mac and PC both to work with the router, however, I need to set up security! There are several security options on the Linksys Admin site, and I'm not sure which is best, and will work for these two different worlds. Any help or articles on what to use and How to set it up??

  • Linksys Router cannot communicate with DNS Server

    Hi,
I have a RCA cable modem and a Linksys router and I have been having problems connecting to the Internet wirelessly. When I connect directly to the modem I can get on the Internet (but the connection does seem a little slow). On another forum I was told to disconnect the power from the router, wait a minute, then disconnect the modem and disconnect all wires. Then plug in modem and let it boot, then plug in router and let it boot. This does get my wireless connection back, but then after a few hours I lose it. My Internet provider Earthlink/Time Warner says that the router is the problem, but they see that the router gets a valid ID address, but it cannot connect to the Primary DNS Server. When trying to connect wirelessly I either get the message “Cannot connect to primary DNS server” or “Cannot connect to DNS Server 207.69.188.185”.
I don’t know if my Linksys router is shot or if the problem is originating from the modem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Verizon DSL, Westell 6100 Modem and Linksys router

If anyone is having a hard time getting these three to work together to get on-line, I know your pain. I've spent the better part of two days trying to get these devices to talk to each other. After hours spent trying different combinations and little to no help from Verizon and Linksys I have finally gotten my DSL up and running through my Linksys router. I post this in hopes that someone doesn't spin their wheels like I have been doing over the past few days. Here's what I did to get them to work:
    1. Reset both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
    2. Unplug the router and the modem
    3. Connect an ethernet cable from your Apple to the Westell modem and power it back on
    4. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your browser of choice. The username should be "admin" (w/o the quotes) and password should be "password" (again no quotes)
    5. It will ask you to update your username and password
    6. Under the CONFIGURATION heading select VC CONFIGURATION and click on EDIT
    7. Make sure that both PROTOCOL and MODE are set to BRIDGE
    8. Click on SET VC and then click OK when asked if you want to reset for new configuration to take affect
    9. Once again power off the modem for about a minute then power it back up
    10. Login again with the login you created above and go to the STATUS/ABOUT column and write down the MAC address
    11. Set it to DHCP OFF and change the Private Lan Modem IP to 192.168.2.1. Write this down and keep it so you can access your modem in the future.
    12. Save the settings. You will lose communication with the Westell at this point. Once again, power down the modem for about a minute.
    13. Connect the ethernet cable from the modem into the Internet port on the Linksys router and then connect your Apple to the first ethernet spot
    14. Turn on both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
    15. With your browser (Safari or Firefox) type in 192.168.1.1. Under SETUP go to MAC ADDRESS CLONE and enter the MAC address you wrote down for your Westell modem earlier and then save the settings
    16. Make sure you are in DHCP mode and not PPPoE
    17. Save, exit, and you should be on-line
That was a lot more difficult than it had to be. I certainly didn't get this from the support folks from Linksys or Verizon...a lot of trial and error and investigating on-line. I hope this saves you from the headaches I experienced.

    Feedback for Linksys:
In the Linksys Help system "Easy Answers" there's the question "How can I set up a Linksys router with DSL Internet?" This is what I used to try and solve my Internet connection problem.
The Answer says "Most DSL providers use Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) ..." and goes on to explain how to set up the router for PPPoE. However, my service (AT&T/Yahoo high speed internet) uses DHCP. That meant I spent several frustrating hours trying to get it to work with PPPoE.
The Answer would have been better if it first explained how to tell if you have PPPoE or DHCP (see the reply from vness above, it's an excellent explanation), and then linked to the appropriate setup instructions.
    Thanks for the help!!!!

  • Please help... Linksys router and Imac help

I just switched to Mac, but I might be returning the Imac and getting a Dell or something because it's getting a little ridiculous.
My IP address on my Linksys router is not being recognized by the airport in my new Imac. It took FOREVER for me to get this to work and now it has crapped out 2 times in the last 4 days. I am about to take this new Mac back to the store and go back to a Dell.
Here is a basic description of what is happening:
When I do a diagnostic test I click on Airport and it is saying that the airport signal is fine (green dots), but it doesn't find the IP address. I select my network name that the Airport is picking up and still nothing. I can even get online by selecting a different wi-fi signal from someone that lives close to me too. It's obviously something with my Linksys router that does not work well with my Mac.
Also, even when my Mac doesn't get online, my Ps3 and 360 both still do so I know it is the computer/router that is the problem.
I try unplugging the router, modem, restarting...etc. but it just seems so wierd that it goes off like that.... It's also very annoying, because then I have to hear from my wife about that we spent $1500 on a computer that won't get online some of the time, when I can still get online on my PS3 and 360.
By the way, when I am not connected to the internet Safari will NOT let me put in the 192.168.1.1 in the address bar to get to my router settings. But I did check them from my PS3 and the "clone my MAC" thing is still enabled.
Apple's software update tells me there's no new software available for my machine, which leaves me with no idea what's causing this or how to fix it.
Any advice, solutions, or tips are greatly appreciated.
Can anyone please help me??? If this is going to be a continuous problem, I am taking the computer back and getting a new Dell or something since we mostly use the computer for the internet functions.
    Anybody please help???

    Let's double-check your iMac's AirPort settings ...
System Preferences > Network > AirPort
    o Location: Automatic
o In the left column, verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that AirPort is "On." Click "Turn AirPort On" button if not.
o Ask to join new networks: (enabled)
o Show AirPort status in menu bar: (enabled)
Systems Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced
    AirPort tab
o Remember any network this computer has joined: (enabled)
o Disconnect from wireless networks when logging out: (enabled)
o Require Administrator password to control AirPort: (disabled)
    TCP/IP tab
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    o Configure IPv6: Off
    DNS tab
o DNS Servers: <if required, add your desired DNS server IP address(es) here>
o Search Domains: <if required, add your desired DNS Search Domain(s) here>
    WINS tab
o Enter desired WINS info or leave the defaults
    AppleTalk tab
    o Make AppleTalk Active: (disabled)
    802.11X tab
o Enter desired 802.11X info or leave the defaults

If you connect your iMac directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN ports on your Linksys router, can it access the Internet now?

  • Recently I update Firefox and now I can't acces to my router

Recently I update Firefox and now I can't acces to my router main page any more.
Before I get a window that ask me to add an exception, cause the certificate ... as I check the remember the exception it always ask me for the exception. was not so bad as I have ask any time for the exception and finally I have acces to it . But now NO WAY !!!
I still go to internet, all my computers are connected but I could'nt reach the router to change some settings and add news computers ( my settings are very secure on my router to add a device I have to enter the MAC address). I still get my printer at 192.168.3.141, the modem at 192.168.1.1 but when I want to go to the router main page 192.168.3.1, I get this message :

I read that FF change some settings on the new versions and last time I enter on my router without problems was on October 10.
Now I have installed the 33.0.1 my OS Is XP.
    PLEASE HELP WITH THAT ISSUE
EDIT: I suspect that my problem have to be with the certificate manager because I see it change a lot on this version, and have a place to add exception security like the old one that I use to have to check in the past.
it look like the same problem as me:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1042889
I don't understand almost nothing about certificates then I didn't find any tutorial explaining how to deal with. Also I sow that was totally diferent have some ssl things to check and now is a OCSP ??? for me all still chinesse (lol) I only want someting very simple: reach my router !!!.
I only see on authorities many times my router address, I try to add an exception and say the certificate couldn't be found. I don't know how to play with all this settings , but I'm shure have relation to my problem.
Sorry, my english it's not the best.

    [SOLVED)
@the-edmeister That work !!! thank you very much. I have to put it at SSLv3 option to this work.
I have a question for you. How I could figure out to work with that in the future? could I add an exception on the certificates? or something like that to still let me enter on my router web page? or how I could figure out to make any change on tomato router to still work with the new standard? .

    Good morning
Hi Kathy,  my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community.
If you have an old firmware it would be a good idea to go out to Cisco.com and see if there is any firmware updates. I have looked on the site for you and I see the latest firmware is:2.0.2.1
    http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282414016&softwareid=282487380&release=2.0.1.3&rellifecycle=&relind=AVAILABLE&reltype=all
You can also try to reset your device to its factory settings, to reset your router please take a object that has a point and hold the reset button in on the back for "atleast" 30 seconds until the lights on the front to start flashing.
About Mac address, you can map a Static IP with a specific mac address, You can folllow these steps in order to configure it.

My internet and wifi are working on samsung phone and hp laptop but its not getting connected to iphone ipad, only skype is coming online rest all apps and safari show no internet connection. Got new linksys router WRT160NL , but situation same. Tried reboot, renew lease, forget network, reset network setting. Pls advice

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

No they should be agnostic about what is behind them, but as to support for IP6, or whether any computers or tablets can use AC... and hasn't Apple's own units sometimes stop being supported with new Mac and new versions of OS X? seems so.
I said above, why would anyone install any kind of software to use a router? although Netgear's GEnie is or was installed on my systems that adds a nice way to log in and manage the router, so I have to take that back a notch.
Support for modems and ISPs is a concern, my modem is not certified fully with DOCSIS 3.0 or  FIOS.
Look around and you can find routers having trouble with some network services like Airplay, printing and scanning, the software bundled with router.
However, ethernet chips, and the driver, can be a factor. Problems with Intel networking chip and high bandwidth streaming and not being able to handle the load when used by wifi euipment like notebooks and other devices.
I have only seen the LARGE number of complaints on MacBook forums about wifi issues to suspect something is wrong but not sure what. And those are people that depend on wifi I assume, though some could use their Thunderbolt equipped Mac to use ethernet to get around the problems. And I am seeing the same thing with some Windows users and maybe they all have common Intel chips???
MacBook Pro constantly losing wireless connectivity
I use Windows 8.1 primarily. I also don't know enough or as much to know "Why is the sky blue" either.
    Just pass along this example:
If you're setting up a new PC for the first time, check if your router is fully compatible with Windows.
