Firefox and hacked accounts

I installed Firefox as an experiment to assist another poster.  Within 24 hours I was notified by my gmail and iCloud account of suspicious activity.
i Changed my passwords and added 2 step verification on my gmail account.  Uninstalled firefox.
i Don't know what other information has been collected from my phone.  I will be changing more passwords just in case.
if you use Firefox and have had similar alerts, hacked phone or corrupted data, uninstall, secure your accounts.
photo of my computer screen:

AHa, good for you!  Unwinding is good....
Since the IP used to try and gain access is in Africa, or says it is in Africa anyway, I know it was a hacking attempt.    And as the picture I posted shows, they were using a browser that I never use on a Windows computer, which I don't have.
my iCloud account, yahoo account and now Google account are all 2 step verified and can't be used on any other device without authorization code, which changes every time.  These accounts all show a list of which devices I have used my signin on.
This could happen to anyone.  I feel I've secured my accounts.  I figured other's may need the information as I see more and more incidents of hacking daily.
My yahoo account was hacked 2 years ago.  The hacker used my account to send emails to all my contacts.  The sent email showed in my sent file.  I changed my password and he got in again.  I deleted my contacts, changed the password and added 2 step verification.  If Google would make finding this easier, I would have set up 2 step then.

Try to rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well.

  • User name sent to my email address, but never arrives. Has Firefox been hacked and user info being sent to the wrong people?

Had some issues with Firefox 35.0.1 trying to post on this forum. Fox would not accept my login, so I requested to reset my password. Password reset O.K. still a no go, thought my login was bad and requested them send my "User name" (same email) User name never arrives. I had to create a new account on the forum to post this question as I can't get my old login to work.
Anyone else having this problem or has Firefox been hacked and my "User Name" sent to someone else?

    Hi maheman,
Can you try to recover the password with the email and private message me a timestamp. I can ask an admin to take a look at the technical side of what is happening, the email is removed from the public thread, however it may be necessary to investigate. (please include just the username in the private message)
    Thank you.

  • I installed firefox on a new Win 8 laptop, and my account can not sync with my Win 7 laptop.

I recently purchased a new Win 8 laptop. When I installed firefox and go to sync in option, it doesn't give me the old 4x3 box with code. When I entered my email, it couldn't find my account either.
I am not sure where is the problem, because my old Win 7 laptop and HTC One X are both synced, when I could use the 4x3 box. The Win 7 firefox and Win 8 firefox are both ver 29.0.1, but the sync tab in option looks different.
In summary, I have two problems
    1) My old laptop has a sync account set up long ago, but not firefox is not recognizing my account by my email.
    2) My new laptop doesn't give me the 4x3 sync code.
    3) Just for safety, is there a way to export all of my firefox setting and bookmark from my win 7 laptop? This way I can have the files for backup, in case my sync account is corruptedd or something, and maybe I can import the files to the new laptop this way.
Please let me know if there are solutions to these problem. Thanks!

    Hi joey0352,
Yes check out the article about Firefox profiles:[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
The profile folder will have all of the information stored in it on your Windows 7 computer. If you have any questions about moving the file we are happy to post back.

  • I just installed version 7 of Firefox and afterwards it told me my security module for my firm's bank account was disabled. Now I can't access my account and the bank is in Brazil. I MUST make transactions from the US. How can I go back?

I just intalled version 7 of firefox and afterwards it told me it had disabled a security module for access to my bank account. The account and my company are in Brazil and I am in the US. I must have access to perform transactions. Had the program warned me I would not have "upgraded". To reinstall the security module I must be physically in Brazil because a code is text messaged to my local cell phone as one of the securty precautions and I am in the US and Europe for t3 to 4 weeks. I need to make a wire transfer during that time and cannot do so now. How can I go back to the old version and recover the bank access? Thank you.

You can download last Firefox 6 version from [http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest-6.0/ Here]

I am unable to keep my hotmail account open. Several minutes after I have logged in, the hotmail inbox page diverts to an espn page. I have to completely shut down the entire page to get away from the espn site.

  • I updated Firefox and now, when I select File, Send Link, a dialog box pops up asking me to establish a new account before I can send the link via email.

I updated Firefox and now, when I select File, Send Link, a dialog box pops up asking me to establish a new account before I can send the link via email. I use Outlook, so how do I avoid setting up some new account and yet am able to send the link via Outlook?
I have a feeling it may have something to do with HotMail.com.

My Error: I found out that it was Mozilla Thunderbird that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and the problem went away.

  • Possible security problem with my iPhone4, it seems like it has been hacked into and my hotmail, facebook and university accounts (which all have different passwords) and proceed to change my passwords on me. This has happened twice.

I seem to be having security problems with my iPhone4, it seems like someone has hacked into my hotmail, facebook and university accounts (which all have different passwords) and proceed to change my passwords on me. This has happened twice and I have not left my phone unattended at any time that I can recall nor have I accessed these accounts from another source (i.e. computer/laptop) since changing my passwords after the first hacking occurred. Please help.

Anyone else at your university complaining about the same thing?  It is more likely someone is stealing passwords by sniffing traffic over the university wifi or with a man-in-the-middle attack or by other means external to your phone.  Try a Google search on "steal password" (without quotes) or "steal SSL password" and you'll learn more than you wanted to know about how passwords get stolen.

  • Downloads just disappear from the specified location such as "Desktop" or "My Documents".They are untraceable afterwards. Why does this happen? And because of this I have uninstalled Firefox and now use Chrome.

I have been using Firefox for almost a year now,and had upgraded to Version 7 recently.
My problem started with the downloads.
    1) When a download is to be commenced,a box appears with two options, namely "SAVE" and "CANCEL".
Even when I click on "SAVE",the the box shows it as 'cancelled'.When I right click on the box, another dialogue box appears with a number of choices ,the top one reads 'RETRY'.
When I click this option the download starts and it is shown in the chosen location until 99% is completed,bu the moment the download is complete, the item i.e. the downloaded item just disappears from the chosen location and is not traceable thereafter. This has happened to me repeatedly over the past week or so and I am so disgusted that I have been compelled to uninstall Firefox, and have started using Chrome.
Please help,as I would like to get back to using Firefox again but without the above problems.

Understood.  However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question.  It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point.  Here's an article about a drone in London that was created to hack smartphone WiFi signals (and hackers have been doing what this drone does for years):
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/
The point is that it's not  secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode.  It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office).  Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
    (1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
    (2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
    (3) Off.

  • Just updated firefox and it's wider than my screen, i have to scroll over to the right just to log in on a web site i never had to do that before. How can i change that?

had to replace motherboard, before i didn't have to scroll over to sign in to my account. Just updated firefox and it seems wider than my screen tried adjusting the size of the web page but that didn't really work all that well, open for suggestions please.

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar extension

  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer working on 10.5 in Firefox and Photoshop

We developed an Inuttitut keyboard layout for Mac OS X 10.4 and above (Inuttitut is the language of the Inuit in Nunavik, the most northerly region of Québec province in Canada). For information, our layout allows to type in Unicode whenever Caps Lock is on (Caps Lock off giving the standard Canadian English keyboard) and our keyboard layout Nunavik [Unicode] CSA can be dowloaded from this webpage (http://www.kativik.qc.ca/en/aipai-fonts). The only problem we found is on 10.5, both with FireFox (2 and 3) and Photoshop (CS3). When we select our keyboard layout (using Mac OS Input Method Selector), shortcuts using the Cmd key don't work anymore (Cmd-C for copying, etc.) in FireFox when Caps Lock is on, and in Photoshop whether Caps Lock is on or off.
It is important to note that our keyboard layout abides by the Mac OS X standards for developing keyboard layouts, and works perfectly with all other applications we have tested so far, on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.
We believe that 10.5 has a new feature whose side effect is to render shortcuts ineffective for FireFox and Photoshop (and very likely other applications that we don't use).

    Here's the second way:
While logged into the newly created admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.

  • Firefox and Internet Explorer crashes on startup

Firefox and Internet Explorer both crash at startup. I have tried resetting Firefox but it still crashes. I click on the details box and nothing happens. They will both work fine when I boot up Windows in safe mode.

  • On Mac 10.6.8 running Firefox 11 one account works fine, while on the other FF appears to launch but will not open a window.

On an iMac using OS 10.6.8 and Firefox 11, one account runs FF just fine but another account on the same machine does not. FF appears to launch...the control bar appears at the top of the screen and a light comes on below the icon...but no window opens. Clicking on a link in an email brings same result.

OOOOPS! Standing in the shower this morning I realized what the problem was. A visiting nephew showed my wife & I a YouTube video and displayed it on the big screen TV by dragging the FF window to the TV while logged-in to my wife's account. When we finished watching the video we switched the TV input back to TV and never dragged the window back to the computer screen. Happy to report all is now working as it should.
