Firefox and Vista Issues

Hello ...
I have two questions and would really appreciate some advice.
(1) Could someone tell me whether I should be using an older version of Firefox (if one is still available) since I have Vista?
I have numerous issues with the latest version of Firefox, and have had issues with some of the other more recent versions: the web page freezes, Firefox crashes multiple times, pages are held up when loading (sometimes for quite a while), I get messages about scripts running, the system runs slowly, et cetera.
I am wondering if perhaps the newer versions/updates of Firefox are not compatible with Vista? Should I be using an earlier version?
(2) Right now, I am receiving a message saying "Error loading player. No playable sources found" when I try to view a web cam on Firefox. This is a web site and web cam that I have used daily for months with no problem. I do have Flash Player installed (at least, I think it is still installed. It does show up in my list of programs on my computer). Do I need some sort of plug-in?
Thank you very much for any advice or information.

so for your first question you can do the following steps they will probably help you to resolve your problem:
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
''' Note:''' If a recent Report ID does not start with '''bp-''' click on it to submit the report.
note: it is advisable not to take screenshots you Copy that ID's instead of taking screenshots.
The answer to your second question:
* [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]
* [[Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again]]

  • The answer to iTunes and Vista issues...

After waiting for weeks for Apple to listen to all the posts about Vista and iTunes issues, I decided I could not wait any longer. I went out and bought Anapod Explorer which syncs music, video and photos effortlessly with Vista. This proves onc and for all that the iTunes issues with Vista are indeed iTunes issues, and Apple should feel ashamed that they are not supporting the vast majority of iPod owners out there who use Windows not Mac.
In the end, it's Apple's loss as now I do not use iTunes at all so will never be able to use the iTunes store. All Windows users should vote with their feet and stop using iTunes until Apple respects them a little more and works quickly to fix issues with Vista support.
If a small company like Red Chair Software can develop a product that works so well with Vista, how come Apple can't? I recommend Anapod 200% and at $30 it is a bargain.

Yay! This works and thanks for the suggestion to use the backed-up .itl library.
The only glitch I got after it finally launched is that iTunes said my computer was not authorized to play tunes. I had to use my last 5 of 5 authorizations. I only have 3 computers, but I've had this glitch before. Hope I never get it again.
Thanks to the forum, and uh... no thanks to Apple!

  • When I do a Google search Firefox will not connect me to the links. The only way for me to connect to the listed pages is to right click on the link and open in a new tab or window. I have reinstalled Firefox and the issue still remains.

I run windows 7 on a Gateway FX6000 series computer. This issue has been going on for some time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. There are not any malware programs on my machine according to the scans I have run using Ad-Aware. If I use another browser I can connect to Google search links with no problems.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Reader 9.2.0 Problem Downloading with Firefox and Vista

After upgrading my adobe reader to 9.2.0 I have been unable to download the weekly pdf report from my US News and World Report site which worked fine before the upgrade. I am using Firefox on a home VISTA premium platform. Strangely, I can download using internet explorer 8 on the computer. I have been unable to resolve on the Firefox help forum. Thanks!

By chance I've found a workaround.
I noticed that the same bug occurred in Reader 8, so used the workaround recommended for that release.
I assigned a local printer as the default Windows printer. Reader then allows me to print so I can choose which printer (remote) on which to print.
However, it's poor that Adobe haven't yet fixed in Reader 9.0 a bug that was reported in Reader 8.

  • Xserver and Vista Issues

I'm running a mac server with half mac half pc. I got a new pc that is running Vista Business. I need to join it with our domain, but for the life of me it won't. I can see the other pc's when I go to network & sharing and I can access public drive, but when I try and join the pc to the domain I get an error message. It tells me the specified domain either does not exist or could not
be contacted. Please someone tell me what might be causing this/

You could look to re-load the Windows Vista system with Windows XP software (or replace the PC with a Mac and with Mac OS X and Bootcamp as and when needed), and operate in a more familiar environment.
(There's a good chance this approach will work.)
Or try this: set Windows Vista to the "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated", and away from the apparent default "NTLMV2 responses only" setting. To get to this particular Windows knob, "run secpol.msc" to get to the settings, look under local policies, then security settings.
(Let us know if this works.)
Finding and loading Samba 3.0.22 or later also apparently fixes this issue, too. (Up until Windows Vista arrived, not much actually used NTLMv2...)
Some related reading material on NTLM is here, if you're interested:

  • PSE8 and Vista Issues

Considering purchasing PSE8 but have heard ealier versions had large issues w/ Vista. Especially the organizer applications. Is this problem been fixed?  From the discussions it looks like this product is not as user friendly when troubleshooting problems.  Thanks!!!

PSE versions 6, 7, and 8 are problematic on all versions of Windows. There is nothing about Vista in particular that causes problems for PSE 8 (as compared to XP or Windows 7).

  • Nano and Vista issue

I've had my 1st gen nano for a while and it works great with Vista, including syncing with iTunes.
There is one minor issue that I haven't been able to resolve.
From within iTunes I am able to disconnect the iPod fine.
But frequently I use the 'Remove Mass Storage Device' utility in Vista (same as it was in XP) in the notification area of the task bar - see image here: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2213/nanoju9.jpg.
When I do that, Vista tells me that it's safe to disconnect the iPod but the nano still displays the "Do Not Disconnect" message on the screen. My only option is to just disconnect anyway but I'm afraid I'll one day do damage to the nano disconnecting this way and lost data.
Has anyone experienced this? I've been able to reproduce this on Vista beta, RC1, RC2 and now with the full retail version. I never had this issue with XP.

I would suggest that you first see this article, which gives some suggestions for Vista users with iTunes/iPod:
    iTunes and Windows Vista
If you're still having issues with compatibility, you might want to download the iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0, which helps Vista and iTunes be compatible with one another.
There currently isn't an official iTunes update which will fully make this new OS compatible with iTunes, though. The article linked above says that "Apple recommends, however, that customers wait to upgrade Windows until after the next release of iTunes which will be available in the next few weeks."

  • Firefox and Flash issues

This transparent flash works great in IE and you can click
the links under where the flash area is, sprys work...
    http://www.cjmracing.com/index_30.html
however in Firefox nothing under the transparent flash
    works?? any suggestions.

This is the Solution that I found, thing is Adobe added something called "Protection Mode" to Flash in 11.3 and you need to disable it and all is well.
To do that you need to restart your pc so you know flash is turned off other wise you can't modify the config files for it.
    For 32bit users:
    '''C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg'''
    For 64bit users:
    '''C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg'''
In both cases all you need to do is add:
    '''ProtectedMode=0'''
To the next line in the file and save it.
Worked for me, and I had been searching for weeks, if it works for you please do what you can to spread the word!

  • Xcelsius 2008 and Vista Issues

    Hi All,
I'm using Live Office(XIR2) to live connect the data to the dashboard. Four objects are imported from Webi via Live office and one of the objects is table with 400+rows. the excel has some calculations on the raw data and the size of excel is around 450kb.
When I try to export the XLF file with the imported excel and about 12 components(in the VISTA OS) the xcelsius program is automatically stopped after some time and hence cannot generate the swf.  At times the exporting is causing my system to crash.
Is this a problem of the complex excel, LO connectivity or Xcelsius instability with Vista? Any thoughts?

Don't think you have to go through that process. Make sure you have the right format in the embedded excel (Right click on the cell-> format cells), and then just bind the component again.

  • Firefox mage quality and resolution was superb when I used XP and Vista. Now that I have Windows 7, however (with the Firefox 3.6.3 version), the image quality and resolution is poor. Please help me!

I am using the Firefox 3.6.3 version with my new Windows 7 operating system. When I used all the previous Firefox versions in my XP and Vista operating systems, image quality and resolution was excellent! However, now that I have upgraded to Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.3, the image quality and resolution is poor (unacceptable for downloading purposes).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I first activated my new computer and installed the Firefox 3.6.3.

All my images are pixelated in firefox 3.6.3
    http://www.dcgdcreative.com
Not only on my site but on most sites I view.
The issue is not solved by resetting the zoom text view (ctrl+0)
The issue is not resolved by starting in safemode with add-ons disabled
The problem seems to only affect .jpeg files and only on Windows 7 on my desktop; as I have viewed several sites using windows XP with my laptop, no issues.
I had the same issue with IE8 and was able to fix the problem with by setting up the compatibility view for all sites. Issue fixed no problems at all. But nothing similar for firefox?
    Whats the deal?

  • I still cannot view flash players in firefox after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and flash multiple times. how do i fix this issue perminantly?

I can go into chrome without any issues and watch any video without any problem. the second i get into firefox nothing works. i have had this issue on and off for years. i really do not see why you cannot fix this if everybody else can. i have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and flash player multiple times. nothing seems to work. I am truly getting really tired of this same problem year after year, i stay with firefox because you are privacy conscience and are being more so consistently. i do not know what other details to tell you other than this just keeps happening and it is making it very tough to do anything on firefox when i cannot use a simple thing such as flash player. as i said, if the other browsers can fix this i see no reason why firefox cannot year after year. i hope there is a simple fix for this problem because it has basically halted a lot of my work on the net as i will no longer use google or microsoft. thank you

  • Adobe Flash Player crashes. My browser is Firefox and operating sysem is Windows Vista.

Adobe Flash Player 11 crashes. My browser is Firefox and my operating system is Windows Vista.

[Moved the discussion to Flash Player Forum]
You might want to Run the Flash Player Uninstaller and remove flash player.
    For Windows : http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
    Restart the machine.
    Download and Re-install Flash Player.
    Restart the browser and check.
Check the same using an alternate browser like chrome and see if you get the same issue.

  • I have a basic applet method timing problem with Firefox (and Chrome), not IE nor Opera. Works if JavaScript issues windows.alert() prior, fails otherwise.

I have an applet method, which is invoked from a JavaScript function, that is triggered by the window.onload event. The problem seems to center in the loading of the applet and its methods.
If I step through the 3 applet acceptance prompts (I chose to use a down-level Java), the applet method is never invoked, nor is an exception raised. How this happens is beyond my understanding.
As additional information, the Init(), start(), and "desired" Java methods all use the synchronized keyword. This is an attempt to minimize the exposure to a multi-thread environment.
If I issue a message from JavaScript (via window.alert()) PRIOR to invoking the method, I can get the desired results in special circumstances:
    1) When the alert is presented, Firefox also prompts, SIMULTANEOUSLY, to block/continue the applet (the first of the 3 applet acceptance prompts). I can accept that these are separate threads.
2a) If I walk through the 3 applet acceptance prompts FIRST, and then hit the OK button on the alert message SECOND, I get the desired results, my applet method executes, and all is well (other than the fact that I would prefer not to have the alert in place at all).
2b) If I hit the OK button on the alert message FIRST, and then walk through the 3 applet acceptance prompts SECOND, I get the same results as when the page loads WITHOUT the alert, which is the applet method is never invoked, nor is an exception raised. Weird, huh?
The above problem only occurs when the browser and the applet's URL are loaded for the first time.
Subsequent invocations (after the page & applet has been loaded initially) do not have the failing symptoms.
It is my understanding that IE and Firefox (and Chrome and Opera, for that matter) each use the same implementation of JavaScript provided by Microsoft. Please correct me if this information is inaccurate.
The failing page and it's applet are proprietary; I cannot provide the Internet URL, nor the Java or JavaScript source, to aid in your analysis.

I can speak to the source code, but have no access to it.
The current process/thread that invokes an applet method must check to see that the applet is not currently being loaded by another process/thread. If it is being loaded, the current process/thread should block until the load is complete, THEN attempt to invoke the applet method.
Please forward my concern to a knowledgable developer. The nature of the problem, once identified, can be addressed in a very straightforward manner.

  • Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for WinXP and Vista, IE7, IE8, Firefox, ect.(New Fast Fix)

(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same  for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. I have this also posted on wwwdslreports.com at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22115254-IE-IE8-and-Adobe-Flash-Question and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22361930-Adobe-Flash-Player-10-Fix-for-WinXP-IE 8-Firefox-ect. It appears to work for everyone so far. I have not heard of any problems from users with this problem running the RC (Release Canidate) for Windows 7 yet.
I hope this works to your benefit.
Please leave a reply to help Adobe and other users know if this fix worked for you or not. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.
(I would strongly recommend those not using IE8, or Firefox 3.5, get the updated versions)
If your looking for uninstallers go to this site: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If your looking for a true full install, you can download this developer version for Windows and Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flash_player_update2_flash10.zi p (44MB) (If you download this, I would recommend you still follow my instructions for the Flash Utility before restarting your computer.)

I would recommend all users having problems try the above solution first.
I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.
If you find this useful, please come back and reply to this forum, and let everyone know so that others will be encouraged to do this.
Thanks and goodluck, from another user like you.

You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
