Firefox will not launch, including in Safe Mode or the Profile Manager
Firefox on my other machine will not visibly launch. There is occasionally a message stating "you already have a Firefox session running, please close it before opening a new one" when I make a second attempt. I have tried to follow all the directions in any of the troubleshooting guides or in the forum posts on other sites, but I cannot even open the Profile Manager or open Firefox in safe mode. We have done a fresh install and that has not helped. Any additional assistance would be appreciated.
You can try to disable the Java Quick starter and the Java Console extension in the Control Panel > Java.
Control Panel > Java > Advanced tab > Miscellaneous >Java Quick Starter (disable)
You can also disable the Java plugin in Firefox: Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

Firefox will not open at all (regular, safe mode, profile manager).
Firefox hung while using the Garmin import plugin on the mapmyrun.com page. No crash report was provided. After closing it, firefox will no longer open.
It appears in the taskmanager momently, but then disappears before any window appears. It never consumes more than 1004K of RAM before it disappears.
It will not open in regular mode, safe mode, or in profile manager. In each case the result is the same.
I rebooted. No change.
I reinstalled it over itself. No change.
I completely uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it. No change.
I deleted sessionstore.js and replaced it with sessionstore.bak. No change.
I can't open the profile manager.You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter>
At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.

Have been unable to start firefox 18, crash reporter pops up immediately without opening the browser. Tried reinstalling the software with no effect. Cannot open browser to run safe mode. I am not aware of any new software that was downloaded recently that would interfere with this.

Some programs crash but not in safe mode or for guest user
Hoping that some talented and kind Mac wizard will help me solve a bizarre problem: Some but not all of my programs have started crashing immediately upon launch, but not in safe mode, nor when I log in as a guest user.
The problem began on February 5th, right after I installed an update to my OS (bringing it up to version 10.7.3), which included an update to the firmware for my computer, a Mac mini from mid-2010. The programs that began crashing upon launch *may* be those that were open at that time, but I can’t be sure. They include Adobe Reader, Picasa, Word for Mac, and a sweet little utility called uCalendarX.
Specifically what happens with, say, uCalendarX, is this: After I launch it, nothing appears on screen for a few seconds, and then comes a message that it is trying restore its windows, with a choice of whether to attempt restoring them or not. After a few more seconds comes the news that it has quit unexpectedly. The first several dozen lines of the crash log appear at the end of this posting.
So far my troubleshooting has revealed the following:
(a) When I reboot in safe mode, the programs that crash now work normally.
(b) When I boot the usual way but log on a guest user, the programs that crash now work normally.
(c) Fully emptying the trash made no difference.
(d) The problem was not solved by restoring my hard drive (via Time Machine) to its state the day before I downloaded that update to the OS and the firmware. (This was a drastic step, the intervention of last resort, and I was sure it would work. But no. Perhaps I did not go back far enough for the restoration.)
(e) Deleting the plist files and plist.lockfiles made no difference.
(f) Deleting the files for the app under Saved Application States made no difference.
(g) Disabing the user’s font cache (as happens in safe mode) made no difference.
(h) Uninstalling Adobe Reader, emptying the trash, downloading the latest version, and installing that made no difference – this latest version newly installed continues to crash (but not for a guest user, nor for me, the administrator, in safe mode).
(i ) Repairing permissions on the hard drive made no difference.
I will be mighty grateful for a solution to this perplexing, vexing problem!
B.t.w., I don’t know Unix but was able to do all those (fruitless) interventions listed above.

The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
Thanks again for your suggestion.

Firefox will not open even in the safe mode
Started with the addition of beta 4 where gmail would not open and it froze firefox. Added whatever the new addition was yesterday (3/14/11) and then firefox would not even open. Tried safe mode but it still will not open. Error message below
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-beta.html
* Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Create a new profile exclusively for the Firefox 4 version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

Firefox crashes whether or not opened in Safe Mode
I removed several programs of what I thought were bloatware on my PC a few weeks ago, but have not been able to operate Firefox since.
I have tried a System Restore, I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox 10 numerous times.
When trying to open Firefox whether by usual operation or in Safe Mode, it still crashes.Uninstalled 10.0.1, installed 10.0.2 and tried to 'Launch Firefox' directly from install. Crash. Tried to open in safe mode. Crash.
Tried to retrieve crash report ID, Windows Search tells me nothing matches
"%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted" when I search it.
Otherwise I would have provided that information. -

Blue screen on start up. Safe mode not working?
Blue screen on start up. Safe mode not working, any suggestions?
Thank you, I had forgotten about target mode. I was able to back up all of my files. I also copied some additional 50 GB of files of the disk as a stress test and the hard drive worked fine and quick (and because it was quicker than retrieving the same files from a network drive to my desktop).
I was hoping to also unpack the Applejack files on my desktop and put them back so I could run them in single user mode without running /etc/rc. However I haven't been able to get my Linux desktop to mount the iBook in Read-Write instead of Read-Only yet (I don't have access to another Mac at the moment). -
Starting from about 2 weeks ago, Firefox has been crashing. The crashes is seemingly random, but normally happens when many pages/tabs are open. Also, all observed crashes happened in middle of some user operations. If I just leave it open(and loaded), it would never crash even after a long time.
Also, the crashes would still happen even after ALL extensions are disabled manually. However it doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode.
After every crash, in the crash report dialog, the "Details" report would not respond. However I can open the reports using about:crashes.
Before the crash would happen, sometimes the following ill-behaviors could be observed:
* Firefox fails to render CJK characters, displaying them as square boxes instead
* CJK IME(Namely Google Pinyin, an IME for Simplified Chinese) could no longer be activated in Firefox, neither on a webpage element nor on UIs of Firefox itself(i.e. address bar or search bar)
The following has been tried but no luck:
* Disable ALL extensions manually
* Start a new profile
* Reset Firefox
* Uninstall/Reinstall Firefox
* Switch from FX 14 to 15, then to 16 betahello Rainarrow, some other users who have recently updated the graphics driver for their ati hardware (to ati catalyst version 12.8) have reported similar crashes. please try disabling hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this resolves the issue of frequent crashes for the moment.

Firefox will not open but process runs
Suddenly I can't get Firefox to open - process runs in task manager but no window comes up at all. Have been using it on this system for a long time with no issues. It isn't the process already running issue which most of us know.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to no avail. I have no other monitor connected and desktop is not extended to an imaginary monitor where it may be opening. Running on Windows Vista.
The problem started when Firefox hung / crash / froze trying to run a video applet on a website (bbc.co.uk).
Is this an issue with any kind of known resolution or must I find a new browser after years being comfortable with Firefox?I have exactly the same problem with both Firefox and Thunderbird, under my Windows Vista OS. However, I can get both running using the following cumbersome method. In the Task Manager right click the entry firefox.exe in the process window. Choose "Properties" from the drop-down list and then choose the "Previous Versions" tab. In my case it showed a so-called "shadow copy" dated about four weeks previously and when I selected this and clicked "Open" then Firefox opened normally, though rather slowly. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem because after Firefox is closed the same problem recurs next time I try to open it. However, if the "Restore" button is available (it was not for me) in the "Previous Versions" window then you might be able to restore an older but working copy. You can also get to the "previous versions" window by right clicking the firefox.exe file in the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ ).
This is a really unfortunate development in Firefox and Thunderbird that will force people to abandon them and move to equivalent Microsoft products that do not have these problems. Mozilla developers please act on this problem urgently. -
(Firefox 8) cannot display home page without explicitly typing into address bar (not at start-up and home button doesn't work either). Also, cannot see tabs at all (enabled or disabled).
Any suggestions?????I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.
