Firefox artifacts

Hi
for some time now I've got a lot of artifacts with firefox, like images having some lines [left,right]-shifted, black lines in the code templates at this forum (those things you make with [ code ][ /code ]), faulty drawn widgets, ...
I've made a screenshot to show you some of them, if you look closely at the seventh until ninth tab (CERN until Wikipedia on Dirac) you can see that their bottoms are drawn differently than all others. This is how tabs are drawn when they've been hovered by the mouse, otherwise they look like the others (and they get reset when firefox looses focus).
You can also notice that the scrollbar on the left of the "More of ..." menu is drawn faulty...
These are minor stuff but they are pretty annoying because they appear so frequently... Is anyone else experiencing this? I might file a bug one of these days, I couldn't find one about this yet.

  • My computer has a Radeon 7800HD graphics card. Firefox shows graphic artifacts in sthe shape of alternating square boxes which obliterates the text

I keep getting alternating brown squares as artifacts all over my computer when browsing with Firefox. The squares are concentrated on the bookmark area on the left of the screen and also the menu section on the top of the screen. This has been a problem since Firefox 18 and is still a problem with Firefox 20; enough of a problem that I am considering a browser switch. We have another computer that has the same problem and that computer has a different graphics card. Any help someone can provide would be appreciated.

  • Firefox Desktop 15.0.1 Displays Artifacts at bottom of page when scrolling up or down

Black artifacts flickering at bottom of window when scrolling up or down. It is a black bar with no content, sometimes occupying 30% of bottom part of window.
However, Microsoft offered an emergency fix-it for IE on September 20, 2012. This problem went away for few hours. Installing the critical update for IE allowed FF to run without this issue for two days after install on September 23rd.
Why that would be, I cannot say.
Have a screenshot of FF when this happens. Bar is very small ATM, but flickers just the same. Normal artifact extends from left side to right side; only a partial bar is caught with this screenshot.

I have installed Firefox 10 and 11 in Windows 8 consumer preview.
It randomly presents unwanted artifacts especially on the tabs. E.g. when i right click on a tab, it may get the color of the firefox button (orange). If I click on sth in a page, some tab gets the color of the element I clicked. Other times, just maximizing and minimizing the window gets tabs colors mixed.

  • Firefox 23 artifacts

    Hello,
I don't use Facebook much but when I logged in I noticed some strange artifacts / small black boxes that appear as I scroll the page up and down.
It seems that these artifacts, whatever you want to call them, appear on other websites/pages too but on Facebook they just pop up more frequently.
I tested with both the latest (23.0.1) and the previous (23.0) versions of Firefox and it is the same.
My machine is a Dell laptop with 8GB of RAM, dual-core i7 (Ivy Bridge), SSD for storage (not that it matters in this case) and up-to-date arch packages.
Following are a few more details:
    [aky@3axis ~]$ uname -a
    Linux 3axis 3.10.9-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 21 13:49:35 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    [aky@3axis ~]$ pacman -Q firefox
    firefox 23.0.1-1
    [aky@3axis ~]$ pacman -Qs intel
    local/intel-dri 9.1.6-1

    X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers
    [aky@3axis ~]$
Did anyone else notice these artifacts in the recent versions of Firefox?
Any ideea what could be wrong here?

I'm using firefox 23, intel drivers and SNA and haven't seen any artefacts.
Most of the time it seems very rare and I almost never see it, but on certain pages I can reproduce it 100% reliably, such as scrolling on facebook.

  • Drawing artifacts in Firefox and Thunderbird after installing MSI AMD R6850 graphics card

After installing new graphics card (MSI R6850 CYCLONE 1GD5 PE/OC), latest drivers on WinXP 32bit, I'm experiencing frequent drawing artifacts with Mozilla Firefox 8.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0. The problem represents itself either as horizontal black stripes or scattered color checker pattern. It happens especially when switching from other application to Firefox or Thunderbird or when swiching from child window (like Download Manager) to Firefox. It affects either whole application or just some rectangular region (clearly region which was redrawn due to application switching). Next repaint (like switch between Firefox tabs) usually fixes the problem. It is just visual issue, behavior is not affected. The problem never happened to any other application till now. Any ideas? Anyone experienced same problem? Thanks in advance.

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver that fixes these problems.

  • Firefox 5 apparrently changed a Windows setting, now I have artifacts remaining on top of my desktop when doing things like selecting a file and doing an open with selection.

Ever since I my system updated to Firefox 5 I now have issues such as:
Want to open a file such as a doc in Wordpad instead of Word (for speed and simplicity), I right click on the file and select open with Wordpad...the Wordpad and it's icon now stay on the desktop, on top of anything else. This happens when doing any open as selections. This did not happen before Firefox 5......there must be an overriding code confliction. Am using XP Home Premium.

    Hi Steve1904,
So you have use the backup and Restore to restore your files from Windows XP to Windows 7 directly?
This should be considered not work.
If you would like to transfer files between Windows XP and Windows 7, you need another tool called Windows Easy Transfer.
See the article below if you would like to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7:
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7
If possible, follow the steps there, then things should be OK.

  • Firefox 5.0 artifacts

After about 24 hr of webpages being open pages things start to become distorted and smudged across the screen. This occurs to everything including the address bar and the tabs. The effects have occurred multiple times across multiples of my units that use different graphics card models. All effected units were upgraded to Firefox 5.0 before this happened. I end up closing Firefox an reloading it to make it usable.

    Corrected with Firefox 6.0.

    Yes, that's right.
But the mouse movement feels sluggish is probably caused by something else rathar that vbios.

  • Since upgrading to the latest version of Firefox (15.0.1) any keystrokes I enter into the Google search box do not register.

Hope someone can help with this! Since upgrading to Firefox 15.0.1 most, but not quite all, keystokes I enter do not register. I've checked that my keyboard is working and it's absolutely fine with any other applications, including Internet Explorer which I've had to resort to using in order to post this question, as I can't fill in the fields using Firefox.

A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If input boxes work correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
Note that Safe Mode also disables hardware graphics acceleration. Before sorting through all your extensions, if you have noticed performance problems or display artifacts, try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox (in normal mode).
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

  • Weird screen artifacts after QT update

Ran the QT 7.1.5 / iTunes update this morning on my 10.3.9 Power Mac G5 and now I'm getting strange video artifacts. For example: the toolbar area of Firefox is no longer white - it's a crosshatched gray, almost like I was running in lo-res, but the main browser window looks normal. Other programs exhibit the same type of artifact - but only in certain parts of their windows. Also, the "hand" cursor looks like it's made up of dots, like pointilism. Everything works fine, just looks weird.
I repaired permissions, reapplied the 10.3.9 combo update, and reapplied the QT 7.1.5 update. No change. I can go into the Display preferences and switch from millions of colors to 256 and back again - and then things look fine, until I quit and relaunch the program. Then the artifacts are back.
Anybody have any ideas? I hope I've explained this sufficiently. I have a screen shot of this but don't know how to post it.
    Thanks!

  • How to fix fonts in firefox

I have some problems with fonts rendering in Firefox.
First, I use firefox mainly because I need Google Browser Sync, so unfortunately switching to Safari/Camino is not an option.
I installed the Bitstream Vera ttf fonts that I am used to using and configured Firefox to use them by default (at a larger size).
However there are some problems with how it renders them.
First, here you can see the spacing on the link text is bigger than the rest of the text, which sometimes causes links and text to overlap (this looks really bad):
    http://robince.ftml.net/slashdot.png
Second, this is the more serious issue - the cursor doesn't follow the text properly in input boxes (starts to get behind where it should be) and deleting characters leaves terrible artifacts as seen here (the last few characters have been deleted):
    http://robince.ftml.net/text_input.png
So I appreciate it could be a Firefox issue, but as a new Mac user I thought this would be a good place to turn. I'm thinking maybe I didn't install the fonts properly, or somehow they aren't compatible with OS X. Does anyone know any similar alternatives, or a possible solution to the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi, thanks for your help.
Maybe Im missing something, but all I can see in the link you sent is that the fonts may be less sharp on Mac... That's fine - I'd still like to use them (and they work fine in my other apps, terminal, editor, mail etc.) The problems Im having with firefox are much more serious than incorrect hinting.
I can increase the size of the font anyway with command + in most apps, it's just I end up having to do it in every window. In any case I get the same problem in the input boxes whether it is set larger by default or whether I have increased the size with command - +. It doesn't seem to happen at smaller sizes though.
I wondered if anyone else had seen these kinds of rendering issues...

  • [SOLVED] Font glitches in Firefox

I'm using Firefox, infinality-bundle, xf86-video-ati for a Radeon HD 7770 card, and the i3 window manager.
I have an odd problem where some letters in a web page will be displayed as junk.  The glitches are uncommon.  It may be 1/10 pages I visit, and one character glitch per page.  If I change focus from Firefox it will correct the glitches, which is why I can't post a screen capture.
I haven't tried to reproduce in Chromium yet.
    Any ideas?

Had the same problem and I solved it with creating a Xorg config file for the Radeon graphics card. The problem appears to be in the EXAPixmaps option, turning it off solved my problem. Paste the following text into a file named /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf as root, using your favorite text editor:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Radeon"
    Driver "radeon"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" #valid options are XAA, EXA and Glamor. EXA is the default.
Option "EnablePageFlip" "on" #supported on all R/RV/RS4xx and older hardware and set off by default
Option "EXAVSync" "on" #default is off, otherwise on. Only works if EXA activated
Option "EXAPixmaps" "off" #when on icreases 2D performance, but may also cause artifacts on some old cards. Only works if EXA activated
Option "ColorTiling" "on" #enabled by default on RV300 and later radeon cards.
Option "AccelDFS" "on" #default is off, read the radeon manpage for more information
Option "RenderAccel" "on" #enabled by default on all radeon hardware
    EndSection
Afterwards, exit i3 and make sure you exit from the Xorg server and end up in the shell command line, then start i3 (startx). Or log out and log in using your display manager (lightdm etc.) The problem should be solved.
