Firefox automatically downloads a file

I opened a website and downloaded a brochure to my desktop that was supposed to be a pdf file.  However, it downloaded as a pdf.part file and I was not able to open the .part extension, so I then placed both files into the trash and emptied the trash.  Now, those two files automatically download every time that I open Firefox.  I then uninstalled my Firefox application, ran Disk Utility to repair disk permissions, repaired the disk with my OS 10.6 CD, ran MacKeeper several times, rebooted the computer and then installed Firefox from the Firefox website.  I ran Disk Utility and MacKeeper several times, trashed Firefox several times and installed it from the Firefox website.
The two files still automatically download every time that I open Firefox.  It seems that the website or those two files contaminated Firefox, even after it has been trashed and installed as a new application.
I would appreciate any ideas that may resolve this issue.
Thanks to all of you for the great suggestions to prior issues.  This Community is great.

No it's saving the preferences and the check box remains checked from session to session. It will even continue to ask me to what to do with the file even in the same session when i try to download the same file again 5 seconds after i downloaded it the first time.

Thanks but I resolved the issue prior to your response. I opened Tools / Downloads and saw that both files were again being downloaded, so I stopped the process and wiped the Downloads file clean. That seems to have resolved the issue.

  • Sharepoint 2010 is automatically downloading Office2010 files to local machine's Recent Documents, instead of opening from library, off an emailed link.

    Hi-
Please forgive me if this exact question has been asked already (if so I'm not finding it via Google or these forums), but one of my users can't seem to edit documents IN libraries, via links emailed to him.  He clicks on the link and the
file auto-downloads with no Read-only/Edit option pop-up, and he can edit it (without getting the annoying yellow "this is read only from the server, click to edit document" bar up top either), but naturally his changes to these documents
are only being saved on his local machine and not making it back to the library....  Our IT dept gave him a Save As workaround (that, it appears, would make a SECOND file in the library, which is not going to work for our processes), but nobody
else is having this issue....  I'm thinking this is a simple settings change someplace in Sharepoint 2010 or Word 2010 (we have Windows 7), or maybe IE, or it's possible his User profile in our network needs some kind of adjustment...  anyway,
    any/all help appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi,
    1. For automatically download the files, please check the office software settings. for word file, please open local word > file > options > save > save checked-out files to: > select "the office document cache"
    2. site actions > site settings > site administration > search and offline availablity to change the settings.
    3. Please compare the add-ons from this user's IE setting and the working fine IE setting.
    Regards,

  • Can I set up e-mail to automatically download attached files from a trusted source

can I set up e-mail to automatically download attached files from a trusted source to a desktop folder?  Can't find the option (if one exists) in "Rules."

Have you checked Mail > Preferences > General > Downloads folder - change that to desktop. That should do it (that is my setting and it works here).

  • Safari automatically downloads "Unknown" file

In the last few days I have found that Safari automatically downloads files called "Unknown". It sometimes happens when I am using another application so it doesn't seem related to something that I have just done. Also I find that Safari is DEAD slow with some pages or part of the content of some pages.
Here's what I have tried so far. I have deleted all the plist files in both the user account and the library folder in the system folder. I have zapped the PRAM, rebuilt permissions and restarted in safe mode. I have Resert Safari and Emptied the Cache under the Safari menu. I have also updated my antivirus and run it. Nothing has helped.
The sites that load slowly do not behave the same way in Firefox, but I would like to use Safari for most of these most of the time. Any suggestions of a cure would be most welcome.

  • Firefox 4 downloads, extracts files, but does not install - menu pops up to close Firefox, although this was done

Firefox 4 downloads successfully;when I press the button to let it run, the files are all successfully extracted, but when the installation menu pops up an interim bar specifies "checking existing installation" - this is then followed by a pop up menu instructing to close Firefox. The problem is that Firefox has already been closed and I cannot get passed the command menu to close Firefox in order for the installation to commence and complete.

The next step I would recommend is to do some troubleshooting(Safe Mode,Problematic Extensions etc) -
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20plugins
Just to make sure you can get started in Firefox Safe Mode - Hold the Shift key down as you double click on the Firefox icon, ignore the page that opens and Continue. Firefox isn't the only thing that has been updated and new conflicts and culprits can emerge.
I would also recommend a search of your computer to make sure no residue of "Conduit" remains.

  • How do I make Firefox automatically download and install files?

When I download an exe file from the internet, it goes over to the download window. I can see it downloading but I always have to right click and and select open to get it to install. How do I get it to always install automatically? There is never any option called "Download this type of file all the time".

I've been trying to figure this out for days.

  • How do i make firefox automatically open a file. "Do this automatically with files like this from now on." does NOT work.

I have firefox set to Open .wav files with VLC and i have the check box marked to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." But every time i click download for a .wav voicemail from gmail, i get the same dialog box. I just want firefox to hand the downloaded file to VLC and play it. I don't want to have to click anything after i click the download link. Isn't that action what i'm telling firefox to do after i mark the checkbox with "Do this automatically with file like this from now on." ? Isn't that implied with my selection of the box? How can i fix this?i want to click a "download" link for a .wav voice mail in Gmail and have it automatically play in VLC without any further interaction from me.

No it's saving the preferences and the check box remains checked from session to session. It will even continue to ask me to what to do with the file even in the same session when i try to download the same file again 5 seconds after i downloaded it the first time.

  • I thought Firefox automatically converted docx files to Word. Nope.

When opening script attachments from my audition site, when I come on a .docx file, I have to have it converted to Word so I can print it out...and I thought F'fox did that automatically. I'm using Windows 7. I need something that will automatically or easily change .docx into Word or text. Any help? Thanks.

    Hi,
For Firefox to recognize formats other than those related to web pages, you would have to install the plugin for the particular format. For previous Office versions, please see [http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27106 this]. If MS Office is not installed on the system, installing [https://www.libreoffice.org/ LibreOffice] may also help to open Office formats directly. The installed plugins would be listed in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Plugins'''.

  • When i select a pdf file for download in a webpage instead of automatically downloading the file and opening it using adobe acrobat I get a new blank window in the browser and it says done in the bottom left corner

when I select a pdf file within a webpage and click to download instead of getting the "download" window and the file automatically opening after download using adobe reader I get a blank webpage (in the same tab) and in the bottom left corner it says"done". No file is downloaded and if I click "back" I just return to the webpage containing the link.

Aha!  The properties for the plugin file nppdf32.dll for Adobe Reader indicate the file is for Adobe Acrobat.  This misidentification is then used by SeaMonkey as a label in the helper application list.
Adobe Reader 11.0.3.37:  nppdf32.dll has version 11.0.3.37.  This is the version in SeaMonkey's plugins folder.
    Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8.218:  nppdf32.dll has version 7.0.9.50.
As for having both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat on the same PC, this generally works providing Reader is installed AFTER Acrobat.  Reader is freeware, and I want to keep it current.  Acrobat is purchaseware, and I cannot afford to keep buying  upgrades or newer versions.

  • Firefox 25 downloads aspx files instead of serving up sites thru Google search

I used android 4.1.2 and just installed Firefox. when I attempt to connect to a website through a Google search link it downloads an aspx file which will not open. entering an address in the window works fine.

    That won't help, Waka.
I would need to know what exact site is causing the issue to be sure. The likely cause of this is the site using an incorrect mime type such as a wap one when they actually serve html content.

  • Can you sell automatic download pdf files with MUSE?

I have a web site where I sell pdf files. I am currently using shopify but am not thrilled with their web deisgns.
Is there a way (either through an app or widget) to sell pdf files? I would need the files to be immediate available for buyers upon check out.
Also, I need to have their files available to them for a set time within their accounts. Is that possible?
    TIA for any help

We use e-junkie, which hosts our files, $5/month. Great pop-up shopping cart. Download automatic, with pdf stamping.
    Seamless with Muse.
But they don't offer page designs though.

  • I cant get Firefox to download any files including updates. I get an error saying "Windows has closed the filepicker unexpectedly" and Firefox freezes. I use Windows 7 64 bit and I have the error in Firefox 7. Any help much appreciated.

At any attempt to download even update I get an error that says "Windows has unexpectedly closed the file picker".

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • My mac keeps automatically downloading weird files

every 30 seconds or so my mac will download files with extension names like 73982ad.html and other 5 digit number combos followed by "ad". Is this a virus? How do I make it stop? I delete the files as soon as I see them, but I'm worried it's something bigger.

Both of those sites are on a list of known malware distributors.  They are extremely untrustworthy sites.  However, that does not necessarily mean that there is malware involved.
Do these files continue to appear when you don't have any web browser open?  If yes, there's some other software downloading them, which could be (but is not necessarily) malware.
If no, do those files start appearing as soon as you open a web browser?  Or do they only start appearing after you have visited a particular site?
Also, note that your e-mail account could be hacked without malware being involved.  That often happens with accounts on popular servers (Yahoo, Hotmail, GMail, etc) when you have a very weak account password.
To rule out malware in all these cases, just download a copy of ClamXav and run a scan of your entire hard drive.  (Note that ClamXav is the only AV software I recommend on a Mac.)  For more information about Mac malware, see my Mac Virus Guide*.

  • When i open a pdf from any website to read , firefox automatically downloads to the hadr disk, safari does not do this. how can i stop all the clutter resulting from these downloads

    as above ,

The text editor is the text area that you use on the webmail (Yahoo, Hotmail) website to create a new mail.
You can compare that with the ''Post new message'' text area that you use to create a new post on this forum.
Just above the text area that you use to enter the message text there is usually a button bar with buttons that allows some text formatting like Bold and Italic and can also include a button to make a clickable hyperlink.
Check the tooltip of each button by hovering with the mouse over each button.
