Firefox bug? McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.7.1 jams CPU useage at 50%

Firefox 35.0.1
Under certain circumstances Firefox starts using excessive CPU time. It seems to happen when trying to do too many things at once. But, once in this condition exiting all functions (closing all tabs) except my homepage Firefox still is stuck using 50% CPU and over 200,000k memory. The only way to get out of this is to close Firefox and restart it.
After much experimenting I found that disabling (extension) McAfee SiteAdvisor "cured" the problem. Is there a know incompatibility here? Is there a fix, other than disabling SiteAdvisor?
How do I report this to mozilla developers?

McAfee SiteAdvisor has been blocked by Mozilla a number of times over the years due to a major memory leak. although not recently iirc.

So it doesn't surprise me one bit that McAfee seems to be causing problems for you now.
Overall, that extension merely duplicates features that are built into Firefox. IMO, it adds nothing to Firefox, beyond a different database source and possibly "bells and whistles" to "wow" users.

• How can I get rid of McAfee SiteAdvisor that has installed itself on my Firefox browser screen?

An uninvited McAfee message flashed up on my screen when I was on the net and I mistakenly clicked a button that installed the McAfee SiteAdvisor on my browser screen. I have tried to uninstall the McAfee program and to delete the files that McAfee has stored on my computer, but when I try to delete those files a box comes up saying that they cannot be deleted because they are either write protected or in use by another program.
I do not want to have to read a McAfee SiteAdvisor bright green notice on the bottom corner of my computer screen every time I use Firefox. Does anyone know how to get rid of the files McAfee has stored on my computer? Thank you.

I used to have McAfee site advisor on one machine last year. I do not remember major problems un-installing it presumably it uninstalled easily from the Windows XP control panel -> remove programs.
I also seem to recall it created a long list of files possibly totalling in the GB range of memory use, if I remember correctly I had no problems in removing them.
If you have McAfee security products on your computer you may need to be careful about what is uninstalled.

• I uploaded Firefox 5.0 last night and it apparently cannot accommodate my McAfee SiteAdvisor software, which I paid for and which I want back even if it means unloading the 5.0 version of Firefox. Help.

Below is the only URL I can find. The McAfee SiteAdvisor I have/had is Version 3.3.131. As I said above, I want it back, without having to pay for it again. I would never have upgraded my Firefox if I'd known it would knock out the McAfee SiteAdvisor. Can I just revert to my former Firefox version? I was perfectly happy with it.

The McAfee Site Advisor 3.3.1 extension was the number 2 cause of crashes in one of the Firefox 5.0 betas and Mozilla Blocklisted it. That extension is disabled in Firefox 5, Firefox 6.0beta, and Firefox 7.0alpha versions. McAfee is working on a new re-written version of the Site Advisor extension to fix their problems - ETA is mid to end of July.

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0.1/win32/ and pick your language. Not really advisable to downgrade security wise as Firefox 5.0 was partially a security update in place of 4.0.2

• Where did McAfee SiteAdvisor button go in Firefox v29.0? It was in v28.x

I upgraded to v29.0 and the toolbar that had McAfee SiteAdvisor button along the bottom disappeared.
In Add-Ons Manager, Extensions shows McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.6.6.
Apparently it's working, since when I do a search it shows each site's ratings but I want to use the button when I want.
I am running Win 8.1.

The add-on bar was removed in Firefox 29. This made it so the McAfee Site Advisor Widget/icon disappeared. I think it will be up to McAfee to update the Site Advisor software. I know what you're talking about as I used to use that too. I'll contact McAfee and see what they say.

• I downloaded Firefox 5 and discovered it disabled my McAfee SiteAdvisor becauce of incompatability. How do I delete the Firefox 5 and reload my old Firefox 4 so I can reactivate the SiteAdvisor.

I downloaded Firefox 5 and discovered it disabled my McAfee SiteAdvisor because of incompatibility. No compatible version of the SiteAdvisor was found. How do I delete the Firefox-5 and reload my old Firefox-4 so I may reactivate the SiteAdvisor?
Thank you

McAfee have taken the decision to rewrite the Firefox SiteAdvisor plugin to make it easier to update. This should ensure that Mozilla's fast-release schedule does not cause lengthy delays after future version updates. What it means for Firefox now though is that until the rewrite is complete - and tested - SiteAdvisor is being prevented from loading in Firefox in order to avoid the possibility of software incompatibility.
The SA rewrite is projected to take a few weeks to complete and test; it should be ready by about the third week of July, although the exact date is not being given at this stage. It could be earlier.
In the meantime, users who are concerned about the safety of websites may wish to consider WOT as a temporary substitute. WOT ratings are set by user consensus rather than by automated site testing, so WOT is not a full replacement for SiteAdvisor. It is, however, a good rating tool in its own right (I use both it and SiteAdvisor in all my browsers) and is apparently unaffected by the upgrade to FF5.

• Does McAfee siteadvisor work with Firefox - if not, why not?

does McAfee siteadvisor work with Firefox - if not, why not? Is there a way to make it work?

No, it is blocklisted by Mozilla due to that Site Advisor extension being the #2 cause of crashing the Firefox 5.0 betas. McAfee was notified of the problem long before that extension was added to the blocklist. Now it is up to them to fix it.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/
I have read that McAfee is working on a re-written version that is projected to be available in the 3rd week of July.

• It seems like each time I get a Firefox update (the latest being 5.0), it disables the virus protection software. I'm currently using McAfee SiteAdvisor and Rapport, which program would you suggest using with Firefox for virus protection?

I'm using a Mac OSX platform for my computer system. Is there any reason why McAfee SiteAdvisor and Rapport virus protection software programs are not compatible with Firefox updates? What virus protection software is Mozilla suggesting to use with Firefox?

The McAfee Site Advisor is blocklisted in Firefox 5 due it being the #2 cause of crashes. McAfee is developing a new add-on, which is due to be ready in late July. See the McAfee forum for more information.
• My McAfee SiteAdvisor add-on is activated in the Tool-Add-on menu but doesn't appear in the Add-on Bar.

My McAfee SiteAdvisors is activated but doesnt show in the add-on bar. I double checked the situation under « Tool, Add-on, Extensions » and the add-on is enable. Also the « Add-on bar » is activated. The green McAfee SiteAdvisor button dissapeared after firefox update 16.02. I updated to 17 in case it would resolve the problem with no success. McAfee is still working by giving a warning page if I try to go on a suspiscious site.
Also in google search result I no longer get the little McAfee evaluation icones.

suggest you to re-install siteadvisor pluggin or u can find it under customize toolbar options...

• How do I display the McAfee siteadvisor browser button?

In the previous version of Firefox, I can display the browser button at the bottom right corner of Firefox window. However in Firefox 4, I can't find display it again.

The McAfee Site Advisor add-on may have to be updated to work with Firefox 4. You will need to contact McAfee about that.
A couple of things you can try:
Make sure the add-ons bar is displayed - Right-click on a toolbar, if "Add-on bar" does not have a tick by its name click on it, this will display the add-on bar.
Right-click on a toolbar and select Customize. If the McAfee siteadvisor button is listed in the customize toolbar dialog, you can drag and drop it onto a toolbar.

• Problem with 2009.02 torrents and firefox (firefox bug ?)

when i download any torrent files for 2009.02 with firefox (simply cliking on the link of the torrent), i end up with an empty file with 400 permission. (in /tmp)
i need to use "download link target here" to get a valid torrent file. (i even have to do it twice ??)
so i guess it's a bug in firefox ?
or something is wrong on the ftp site of archlinux ? why the torrent are not provided via http ?

Wow, that's weird. I just tried it and the links really don't seem to be working. It's not a Firefox bug, though. I'm sure because I downloaded the i686 Core ISO earlier today without a problem. Is the server the .torrents are hosted on down or something?
By the way, I have an unrelated question about seeding: I have no need for anything other than the i686 Core ISO, but should I download the other files just to seed? I have a really good upload speed, and I'd like to give back to the community any way I can.

You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
