Firefox Built-In Spell Checker

I installed Firefox from 'Pacman' today and it works great. It's currenlty 3.5.7 and noticed that when I am typing and mis-spell obvious words, it does not underline them in red as Firefox would on any other distribution. I made sure I have the option selected in Firefox that say's "Check My Spelling As I Type" however it does not appear to be working. Am I missing a package or 'Add-on' for this to work?

Hello
Do you have the dictionnary for the language you are writting in?
You can find them here

  • How do I clear words I've added to the built in spell checker?

I accidently have added a few misspelled words to the built in spell checker. I have no idea how to reset it so that it just uses it's own words. Does anybody know how I can clear or reset the spell checker so that it just has the default words?

    Ashka,
I have this same problem of needing to delete a word I added in spell checker.
However I don't see a spelling folder in my user library. This is only my 4th day learning Mac OS moving from Windows, so please if you could walk me through to find the spelling file I would really appreciate it!

  • Since switching to firefox my hotmail spell check is switched off how do I activate it

I have recently switched to firefox and my spell check on hotmail is not now working - I believe the two events are linked

    * You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
    * Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
    * Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

  • How Do I Get Spell Checker to Flag Words with Numbers?

    Hi,
I cannot find any articles on this, so sorry if it's already been answered elsewhere.
I sometimes accidentally hit a number key when typing words like "you"--so that it becomes "y9ou". The Firefox built-in spell checker does not flag this as a misspelling.
In other programs there is a check box to allow this or not, but I cannot find one for Firefox. I do not use words with numbers very often, except something like W2, so I would prefer those get flagged instead of ones that are wrong like y9ou or w3ere that I make frequently.
    Any help on this?
    Thanks!
    Don :)

    Hi, Again,
Thanks for the info. And for a quick reply. ;-)
I checked my current cop0y of LibreOffice (I replaced OpenOffice.org with it several months ago). LibreOffice uses Hunspell as well. I had not checked the boxes to check words with numbers or all-caps as I had previously done in OpenOffice.org, so for all this time I have been thinking it would flag errors in those when it wasn't. Must have made LOTS of mistakes I didn't catch in that time. ;-(
In LibreOffice, go to Tools => Options => Languages => Writing Aids. You can choose to enable spelling and grammar checking (not sure what the grammar checker oes, since it was already enabled but I have never seen any evidence of it). The below that is a section of checkboxes where you can specify what is and is not flagged by the spell checker. I checked the words with numbers and capital letters choices. So now it will catch all the acronyms I haven't added to the spell checker dictionary.
I was looking for the same sort of choice in Firefox but didn't see it. Perhaps there is an API in Hnnspell the Firefox developers can use to add this choice as a checkbox, the way it is in LibreOffice.
I realize this may be perceived as a low priority, but I would certainly appreciate seeing it in a future update of Firefox. At least making this post helped me get the settings i wanted in my word processor.
    Take care and God bless.
    Don :)

  • What is the best spell checker for Firefox

I am having trouble finding a spell checker for firefox ??

Firefox has a built-in spell checker, for details on using it see [[Using the spell checker]]. You have the English-GB version of Firefox which does not include a dictionary, you can add the British English dictionary from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/3366/
If you want a dictionary in another language, you can get them from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/language-tools/

  • Firefox 14.0.1 has a spell checking error./ bug in the code

I just had all my machines update to 14.0.1 (WIN XP SP3)
I had a clean boot right before the update occurred.
This is the first time I had used this version on this machine.
When the program came up, I had no access to the spell checker at all. Nothing I did could change this (checking and un-checking the feature in the right click menu.
So, I selected the option of restarting the browser in "SAFE MODE" with no add-ons. There was no change at all (still no spell checking)
So, I went to this site, made an account, activated the count (this entire time FIREFOX had no spell checking) and I created a report.
I was most of the way done writing the report when suddenly the spell checking started to work. I made no changes to the settings, when suddenly I had spell checking working.
This means there is an intermittent error;p often the hardest to find from my 20+ years of programming experience (Senior IT contractor)..
So, have find finding this one. Intermittent bugs are the hardest to track, and tend to come from issues like scope issues, settings stored in files/registry, overly convoluted code (like a rush job that isn't fully understood & was just hammered on until it seemed to work). From my experience it often happens in the last steps of finishing a release - accidentally introducing a bug into what was a working section of code (unexpected ramification are a suspect) into a previously working program piece of a program.

Hi BarleySinger and thanks for reporting us this issue.
Yes. Intermitent bugs are really difficult to track and solve, so please try to do this things:
    * Try to reset Firefox so all settings that may be creating this problems will be removed.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

    * Try to perform a antivirus scan on your computer so you check you have no malware.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    * [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    * Send us troubleshooting information.
In order to be able to find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the ''Help'' menu and select ''Troubleshooting information'' from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select ''Troubleshooting information'' from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy all to clipboard''. Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article [[Using the Troubleshooting Information page]].
Thanks in advance for your help!
    * Check the issue is still reproducing intermitently, and it was not an isolated problem (Maybe Firefox was still preparing the spell checker).

  • I'd like a spell checker that'll work in 8.1?

Hey all, I had a spell checker for FF, updated it seems to have gone

The built in spelling checker works fine, but may need some attention to some details first. I use it and I also use an extension that checks spelling and Grammar.
    Spelling Check: SpellCheck:
:Firefox has a built-in spelling checker see
    *http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/tab_capacity/001_with_underscore.htm#spellcheck
    *http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/tab_capacity/001_with_underscore.htm#spellcheck_jumpstart
Once set up, you will see wavy lines under misspelled words. Right-click on the identified word to replace with corrected spelling or to add to the dictionary.
After fixing your spell checker and waiting a couple days so you are sure it is working properly with nice red wavy lines under misspelled words, I would install the extension that checks your spelling and grammar. For spelling the built-in spell checker is better.

  • Spell Check in Zimbra

The Zimbra help states that I should click on Spell Check to invoke a wizard that will check the spelling of an email I am composing. I do not have a Spell Check icon. The Help also shows a shortcut to invoke what sounds like the same wizard of Alt - X. That doesn't seem to work either.
How do I check my spelling of an email I am composing, be it the intial email of a thead or a Reply or Forward?
    Thanks,
    Daryl
(I am using IE7. I guess if I was using Firefox, the Firefox browser would most likely do it for me, but I'd still like to understand how this is supposed to work in IE7 and why I don't have that icon.)

Spell check is not currently supported in Beehive Webmail.
As you note, for Firefox, the browser has built in spell-checking. There are 3rd party plugins that provide similar features for IE, though this is outside the scope of the Beehive product itself.
Also, though it doesn't solve the specific issue, we are updating the Beehive Webmail online help to more accurately reflect the available features.

  • New Idea - Spell Check for users filling out the forms.

It would be helpful if there could be a spell-check option on forms that allow users to submit their information by typing in their response.

    Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion.  Please feel free to add your idea here at anytime:

This message post, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5282702#5282702, has some information on different browser's built-in spell check.

  • Is Pages spell-checker prone to error?

I relied on the built-in spell-checker of Pages to check several large documents.
It was shortly pointed out to me that my report was full of typographic mistakes.
(Yes, I should never have released the report without re-reading it for errors......)
After reading some about the "dictionary" that a spell-checker relies on and how the user
may inadvertently alter it by approving mistaken spelling or failing to correct typos, I suspected
I had done so, and replaced the "dictionary" for Pages.
    Two questions:
Have others had this experience, of finding the Pages spell-checker not working well?
How have you adjusted to avoid such going forward?
    (My reponses may not be sufficient: be more careful, i..e., correct all mistakes when spell-checker is on;
look for software to catch my mistakes that improves or checks on Pages.

  • Why does Spell Check not stay enabled, how do I fix it?

Every time Firefox closed, the spell check does the same thing? I want to enable it, and for it to stabilize with Firefox, and other software that it has worked with in the past.

then try the basic troubleshooting steps recommended in the manual:  restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

  • Spell check on Iframe

    Hello Everybody,
How do i implement a spell check on an iFrame in my page..?
Is it possible to use the built in spell checker that is available with some of the standard text areas provided in APEx.
I dont want to use the textarea with html editor too because it does not have provision for adding images..
To make a long story short , I need to put up a spell check on an editor similar to the one we have in blogspot.com or yahoo mail where images can be put in too..
    Thanks in advance,

    Is this thread still alive..?
    Can someone help me..?

  • Alert! Can't find spell checker

After installing the latest security update, I am getting the "Spinning beach ball" in Mail.app and then the message:
    Alert! Can't find spell checker
Mail.app is unable to find its built-in spell checker (AppleSpell.service).
However, AppleSpell.service is where it should be, but it appears to be corrupt and won't start up to run in the background (as normal).
A workaround is to select "never" in the preferences of "Check Spelling" in Mail.app's preferences/Composing.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Can I get a non-corrupt version of the AppleSpell.service and try overwriting mine?

The "couldn't contact spell checker" error has been brought up in this forum many times (at least three times in the last two days). The error usually is the result of having remnants of older versions of third-party spell checkers, most commonly, Spell Catcher, but others have been identified. The solution is to remove those remnants and/or install the most recent version.

  • Spell check JavaDoc in JDeveloper

    Hi,
Is there a way to spell check JavaDoc in JDeveloper? Is this built into the JDeveloper IDE or is there an extension?
    Best regards,
    Charles

There is no built in spell checker in JDeveloper.
You can build an extension that will do that with the Extension SDK - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/index.html
