Firefox can't store permanent security exceptions.

I'm using Firefox 3.16.12 (user-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3)
When I try to add security exception for self-signed certificate - I have the same problem as it seen on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WatBXY5CxO0
Temporary exceptions are stored without any problems.

Found solution for this problem here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1160375&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
It seems, that something was wrong with cert_override.txt , cert8.db from profile folder. Deleting those file helps.

  • In Firefox 4.0 with a Server with a self signed certificate using IPv6 I can not add a "Security Exception" for this certificate.

In Firefox 4.0 I have a server ... it contains a self signed certificate. Using IPv6 I can not add a "Security Exception" for this certificate.
    1. I log onto the server (using IPv6). I get the "Untrusted connection page" saying "This connection is Untrusted"
    2. I click on "Add Exception.." under the "I understand the Risks" section.
    3. The "Add Security Exception" dialog comes up. soon after the dialog comes up I get an additional "Alert" dialog saying
An exception occured during connection to xxxxxxxxx.
Peer's certificate issuer has been marked as not trusted by the User.
    (Error code sec_error_untrusted_issuer).
Please note that this works in Firefox 3.6.16 (in IPv4 and IPv6). It also works in Firefox 4.0 in IPv4 only IPv6 has an issue. What's wrong?

Exactly the same problem, except I'm using FF v6 for Windows, not FF v4 as for the lead post. This is for a self-cert which IS trusted, although the error message says it isn't.

  • Latest version of Firefox can't make a secure connection without disabling firewall, why?

    ''dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/920138''
After upgrading to latest Firefox, can't made a secure connection. It spins and either times out or says connection refused. Running PC Tools Firewall and when I disable it, secure connections work. Tried one tip of removing Firefox from firewall list and then re-adding it, but it didn't help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox repeatedly demands verification of security exception for certain secure sites, no matter how many times I confirm that it is secure.

Not all secure sites have this problem. There are certificates for these cites in my list of certificates, but they don't seem to work.

It shouldn't be necessary to make an exception for certificates unless some intermediate certificate aren't send or a site has a self signed certificate.<br />
It is also possible that your security software is monitoring secure connections and sends its own certificate instead of the certificate from the server.
Also check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

  • When I try to set my homepage to a specific website, firefox will not store permanently. I have to reset home page each time I open firefox. are there additional instructions in help to address this?

Each time I open firefox, it doesn't open to my previously set website (Yahoo). I have to reset the homepage each time I open firefox despite following the help menu method. I'm not able to locate a possible cause/solution on the help menu. pls advise

    Please do the following.<br><br>
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=<br><br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "''Copy Link Location''" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br><br>
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/

  • How can I get Firefox to load pages properly and stop asking me to add every single page I visit as a "security exception"?

I just downloaded the newest version of Firefox today because it is required for some of the websites I need for my college courses. However, every single website I go to (even the Mozilla site, Google, etc.) says that there's an "untrusted connection." On some sites I have an option between "Get me out of here!" or to add this particular site as a security exception. As you can probably imagine, this is very time consuming and frustrating. I have uninstalled the program (clean uninstall) and reinstalled it. I have reset Firefox, and nothing helps. The problem persists in Safe Mode as well. Along with this issue, every website I manage to get access to is all kinds of messed up. Modules are missing, or the whole page is blank. It can sit there for an hour and nothing loads. I have a good internet connection and fast processor. I was using Chrome before, and Internet Explorer with no issue. About two years ago I used Mozilla Firefox on this same computer and had no issues. I have a 64-bit system, which is the only issue I can think might be causing this problem. I have gone through and tried changing just about every setting, and nothing has helped. I am at my wit's end because I have homework to do and can't because of this problem.

Glad it is fixed. Thanks for posting back, (even if we are not sure exactly what happened).

  • Can't add a certificate exception in Firefox 4.0, relevant buttons are disabled

I try to access a web site from a local network via HTTPS. The web server uses self-signed certificates, and Firefox presents a common "This connection is untrusted" window.
In version 3.x I simply clicked "Add Exception", and then "Confirm Security Exception". In Firefox 4.0, when I click "Add Exception", I see:
    # "This site provides valid, verified verification. There's no need to add an exception".
    # The "Permanently store this exception" checkbox and the "Confirm Security Exception" button are disabled.
I cannot access this protected site anymore. Any suggestions?

There seems to be a work around to add exception.
You have to manually go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> View Certificates -> Servers -> Add Exception
Then the "Add Certificate Exception" window comes up. Just enter the URL at location https:// and click "Get certificate". Then "Add Security Exception".
This will allow you to access the site thereafter.
I'm not sure though why "Add Exception" button under the "I understand the rsiks" page does not work. May be a bug.

  • How can I Remove Firefox Hello in a high-security environment?

    Hi,
After a recent Firefox update in a test environment for a high-security environment (I'm not at liberty to disclose the nature of this environment, sorry. Let's just say we have to disable Firefox from contacting Mozilla's servers and further disable Google's "Safe Browsing" due to possibility of inadvertent unauthorized disclosure) We have noticed a feature: "Firefox Hello", this feature causes Firefox to violate strict policy as it transforms it from being classified as strictly a "Web Browser" (which is permitted) to a "Chat Application", all of which are completely banned. Simply disabling Hello is not a sufficient option as Firefox still contains the code to run Hello, which still constitutes it a "Chat Application" as per policy. We have the capability to edit out unauthorized code from open source software internally, but we don't know where to start to remove this code from the Firefox codebase as Hello seems pretty well integrated.
Currently I only have two options, both of which do not please me as for me personally, (I really like Firefox and have fought to include it in any environment I can):
    1. Discontinue permanent use of Firefox.
    2. Discontinue updating Firefox permanently or until Hello is removed as a non-modular element. This is unacceptable as it'd mean we can't keep it secure, which causes us to fall back to (1).
I would graciously like any third option. Internet Explorer seems to be the only browser that provides sufficient enterprise-level control without extraneous features at the moment with the addition of Hello to Firefox. We have banned Chrome from our environment due to how tightly bound it is with Google's "Cloud" services and hope that Firefox isn't becoming a "Cloud" browser for Mozilla, Sync has already placed Firefox under the microscope as it is.
    Thank you.

We have WebRTC traffic blocked (We have a setup that audits SSL traffic before it leaves or enters the network).
Our primary issue with Hello is that policy classifies the actual code used to run it as being very much like an Easter Egg, code that was inserted that goes beyond the spec of being a web browser and thus difficult to audit. It's easy to block services in general, but when an a single unauthorized service becomes a core feature and has code strapped to the browser, that throws up red flags that Mozilla is moving Firefox away from being a organization-managable browser and more toward an exclusively mozilla-managed "Cloud" browser, where there is a possibility that Mozilla will seek more control over user experience that will increase attack surface.
It's reasons like this we decline to install Chrome into our environment, because Google has several services built-in to the core of their browser and do not leverage their extensions capabilities, but rather mandates that these features "must be installed" and that users can only toggle them off.
It's easy to uninstall an extension or to recompile with a flag, but it's hard when a vendor makes decisions for you and tells you "This is good for you, you must embrace it" irrespective of policy of organizations or even individual users wishes.
Thank you all for this information, it will help our future audits and help determine if Firefox is right for our needs.
Unfortunately I can't mark this thread as "Solved" since the root issue is still not solved (Mozilla's development practices making something that should be an extension, a core aspect of the browser), so marking it solved would be a lie. But thank you both nonetheless.

  • All of my previous security exceptions disappeared when I upgraded Firefox and I have NO list of what they were; how do I get them back?

I was pestered to death by Firefox to upgrade to 12.0. I am really sorry I did. I lost all my Security Exceptions. Tools > Options > Security > Exceptions All of my previous security exceptions disappeared when I upgraded Firefox. They are gone and I have NO list of what they were. Is there ant way to bring them back?

The security exceptions that allow other sites to install software?
Which version did you have before -- 3.6.x or Firefox 11?
I don't know whether you regularly back up your computer, but if you have a backup of your Firefox profile folder, then that data should be in there. If you can locate a backup copy of permissions.sqlite, you could use a utility to extract the list. (Or find a volunteer here to assist you with that.)
By the way, did your pop-up exceptions and image exceptions carry over? You can check those under Tools > Options > Content.

  • Can't Purchase anything in App Store, Additional Security Information Needed

I am trying to make a purchase from the App Store in Snow Leopard 10.6.8, but can't make any purchases. When I try to purchase, I get the message, "Additional security information is needed. To use this Apple ID you must first login to the my info web page then provide additional security information." But when I click on Update Security Info, it brings me to a page at https://myinfo.apple.com/ but the page will not load, and it says that Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server. I have also tried it in Firefox and it does not work there either.
I went to the Apple Store online, and updated my account info with the proper credit card and information, but it has not helped. What is going on here.
This is for my bosses account and not my account, and we need to purchase some software for this machine, but are completely unable.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue.  We have recently signed up for the Volume Purchase Program.  I created the Facilitator account, logged into the VPP site, then got a message that additional information was needed.
When I click the link to "Update Security Info", I get an error page on the browser...
I have tried the same process in Firefox and received a similar message...
I then proceeded to try the same thing on a Windows 7 computer with Internet Explorer, no good...
Next, I thought the problem might be related to my firewall, so, I attempted it on a computer OUTSIDE the firewall, no good.
Then, I tried it from home on my ipad, no good...
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Firefox stores my email screen names, how can I store them?

Firefox stores my email screen names, how can I store them? I had to change the password to one and was suggested to delete it... all I wanted was to change the 'remember password', not delete the screen name

You can press the Delete key on a highlighted entry in the drop-down list to remove that entry or do the same in the Password Manager.
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
If you need to remove saved data then use these steps:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

  • I can not download Windows Security Updates due to incompatibility with FireFox.

Firefox is not allowing critical security updates, or any updates, to Windows and Adobe. It also interferes with my Norton security updates!! (have premium home user software).
I don't like this new version of Firefox. I had agreed to be a beta-tester, but had to withdraw due to the problems in the FireFox software.

It may be because you appear to be running a BETA version of Firefox. Try using the Help | Updates route to update to the full release first. You can also download the full release from here: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0]
You can downgrade at any time by downloading v3.6.16 from here: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.16]
Then go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the current version, but choose to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc. Finally, reboot and then run the installation file you downloaded.
