Firefox cannot install PitchDark 3.6.2 because of invalid hash.

From both the Mozilla addon site and thebankshow.com site, I try to install Pitchdark from the following link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1529
However, each time, I get the following dialog box message:
Firefox could not install the file at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/latest/1529/addon-1529-latest.jar?src=addondetail
because: Invalid hash(possible download corruption)

I am running Windows XP/SP3, and Firefox 3.6.3. I have even uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, but the same behavior obtains.
Why does this happen, and how can I install it? I have installed Pitchdark on 3 other Windows XP machines without incident.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I can't recall, but it may have been on a Firefox upgrade.

Morbus's idea does not work. Pitchdark is a theme, and I cannot see a way to download a theme and install it from my computer. By turning on 3-rd party cookies, I was able to "install" Pitchdark since my original posting, but it does not appear. In fact, no matter what theme I install, only the default theme appears. IT seems, therefore, to be a Firefox problem rather than a theme or add-on problem.

  • Cannot install Mac OS X lion because when installing I recieved the following message:The software could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading"  What can I do

I have not been able to install Max OS X Lion because in the process the following message was displayed:
"THE SOFTWARE COULD NOT BE VERIFIED. IT MAY HAVE BEEN CORRUPTED OR TAMPERED WITH DURING DOWNLOADING"
    How can I solve this?
Note: I trashed the download and tried re-downloading but this effort was unsuccessful.

Since writing my original post I decided to send the following message to Mac App Store Customer Support:
"I have had to download this file from the app store at least ten (10) times. I try to install the file but I keep getting the message "The software could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
I then delete the same file and try another attempt at a different time of day. Most recently following Apple Support's advice I contacted my ISP to clear the file cache but they could only clear my browser cache. I have deleted my com.apple.appstore. folder which contains app store cache,  also com.apple.appstore.plist and tried again to no avail. I have wasted hours doing all this and I now want my money back please. You can keep this software update until you release it on disk like Snow Leopard which installed like a dream. I'm very disappointed with Apple that they expect the purchaser to do all the work trying to diagnose their software installation issue. Nice idea but poorly executed has been my experience."
I received this message which has confirmed my refund request:
Julia here from the iTunes Store. I understand that you received an error message and have been unable to install OS X Lion. I know how eager you must be to have this resolved, and I will be happy to help in any way that I can.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the frustration this download has caused. Since you were unable to enjoy this purchase, I have gone ahead and issued a refund. In five to seven business days, a credit of £20.99 should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.
If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this issue, please reply so I can assist you further. Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer.
    Sincerely,
    Julia

Perhaps I'll wait for a disk to become available or see if a download to a pen drive at an Apple store is possible.

  • Firefox cannot install the updates on my Mac OSX Lion

Firefox tells me there is an update. I click install, but it just sticks at the downloading screen (for hours if I let it) and cannot download. This has been happening ever since I changed to Mac OSX Lion on the new MacBook Air.

Download from here and install it:

  • Have adobe flash player on chrome but isn't working on firefox, cannot install it I get a message that I haven't got the permissions to do so.

I have flash player in google chrome but not in firefox. When I try to simply allow flash player in firefox it is not listed. I have the only account on my computer so I am the administrator yet it states I do not have sufficient permissions to install flashplayer although it is already on my computer. I will attach a .bmp screen shot of the error message, but this is what it says if you don't want to open a pic from someone you do not know. :)
"a required file (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe:5) could not be written due to insufficient permissions.
Please visit the following link for troubleshooting tips:
Troubleshoot Flash Player installation for Windows
I have tried with my antivirus (Avast free version) running and also with it disabled.

hello, please try the windows exe-installer for plugin based browser from https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and see if this works to install the adobe flash player. otherwise you'd have to contact adobe's support since that doesn't appear to be a problem directly related to a mozilla product...

  • Cannot install iTunes in Windows XP because of a iTunes.msi file missing error.

I'm running Itunes on Windows XP.  Get an error message of Itunes.msi file missing.  Cannot remove Itunes via the control panel; get an error the network file path for a file is missing.  Itunes repair does not work.  How can I remove Itunes and reinstall?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot Install iTunes 10.5.2 because it says iTunes is open

I have downloaded iTunes 10.5.2 from apple.com it was completely downloaded and I closed out of apple.com and opened the iTunes 10.5.2 installer. It started to work but when the installer was only about 15% loaded a window pops up and tells me iTunes is open and I have to close it. I have tried many things and nothing has worked. Nothing is open other than the installer. I have restarted my computer and tried it over and over and nothing works! It won't let me put music and apps on my new iTouch 4 until I have it installed. Please help!

best solution Ive found is to unistall everything relating to apple(i.e. quicktime) on your computre run a disk cleanup and then try installing it then.

  • Cannot Install Itunes on Windows XP because an old Quicktime file is on PC

Hi Folks, i have been following these discussions.
Like everyone else, I have been trying to reinstall itunes on Windows XP, by going through all the processes as described . The "block" against a successfull reinstall is having an old Quicktime file still on your PC , and being unable to delete it.
My "QUICKFIX" - the pun is intended is , is to go into Windows task manager, then processes and then delete "qttask.exe" and then restart your PC, and then you should be able to reload itunes .
I hope this helps, it did for me !
I have spent many frustated hours before i found this works.

A good starting point is this article on trouble installing iTunes here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Presumably you are downloading iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you are running the installer from your browser, try saving it to your desktop and running it from there.

    Steps (for MAC)
    1. Click (ONLY ONCE) on your chosen music files outside of Itunes.
    2. press Command + C
    3. go to your itunes
    4. press Command + V
    For PC ,its the same
    - the same stuff but instead of pressing the Command key, its Ctrl .

  • When attempting to install add-ons, Firefox generates a message saying it is unable to install add-on because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file. To what file is this referring, and how do I fix this problem?

When I download an add-on such as Colorful Tabs and start the installation process, I receive a message that Firefox cannot install the add-on because it cannot modify the necessary file. To what file is this referring?

That is usually caused by Firefox not unpacking the extension.
You can try to set the Boolean pref <b>extensions.alwaysUnpack</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Cannot install iTunes because of Windows Installer Package

Cannot install iTunes on Windows 7 because of Windows Installer package is missing.

Okay. Even though you're getting a different error message, try the procedure from the following user tip:

  • Cannot install safari 4.0.3 on mac os x 10.6

hey i'm having trouble installing safari 4.0.3 so that i can use itunes 9. when i open the install package just before installation, it gives me a warning saying that i cannot install safari 4.0.3 because i need to run mac os x 10.5.8 even though i'm running snow leopard. called apple but they cannot help since my warranty expired 3 days ago. PLEASE HELP!!

    I see,
If you right-click on the Quicktime app, and choose "Get Info" check to see if it's Version 10.0 if it is, its Quicktime X.
I just checked, and the final "Gold Master" developer build of Snow Leopard was 10A432 so you are using an older build, and I really think you should get the final release - otherwise you won't be able to run Software Update in the future, and you might run into problems with your version.

  • Cannot install C55 trial

using firefox - cannot install. does the Air install fine, and begins the Download Assistant, but then does not progress at all.

Do you receive any type of error message?  Where are you choosing to download your install files too?
Alternately you can follow the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 to initiate a direct download.

  • Error: "FT DeepDark 11.3.1 could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file." What does this mean?

In an earlier version (Firefox v.31) on this, and (presently) on two other PC's, I was/am able to run add-on FT DeepDark 11.3.1 without any problems. It was only recently - after updating to v.32.0.3 on this PC that this situation started. The PC in question is a Dell Dimension 8400 Intel P4 running Windows 7, though I'm thinking it may have something to do with the newer version of Firefox. Could anyone help me with this? I like this add-on because it is easier in my eyes when browsing the internet. Thanks
PS: Attempted to install the troubleshooter, and again I received a similar error: "Troubleshooter could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file."

This error has been reported before in this bug:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730040#c21
Please read that bug I linked you to and let me know if the last comment in the bug solves your problem. Apparently the problem is about the addon .xpi file being read-only. Try right-clicking it, going to Properties and unchecking the "Read-only" attribute box at the bottom of the dialog. Click Apply, then OK.
