Firefox cannot load webpages that display pdf files, Safari works OK.

On websites, including http://www.greyhound.com/en/ticketsandtravel/default.aspx, where I buy bus tickets online, pages (ie. bus tickets) that should display as pdf files do not show up, or only partially (e.g. first page only). Before I updated Adobe flash, I received a message that I needed a Quicktime plug-in. After updating Adobe Flash, I don't see this, but I still can't see the pdf files. I don't have this problem with Safari. I'm using a Mac Intel, running OSX 10.6.7, Firefox 4.0.1

I had the same problem.
I fiddled around with the Plugins and and extensions.
I disabled (removed ) the PDF Nitro program that downloads with Firefox.
I enabled the Adobe plug ins.
I set the PDF information to "open PDF with Plugins".
Not open with OS system or browser.
Hope this helps.

  • Firefox cannot load pages that other browsers can, but the 'help' page for this issue did not fix the problem.

    I am troubleshooting an issue occurring on a family member's pc. Immediately after changing their "search" settings from "Yahoo search" to "Google search", they found that Firefox was unable to load any webpages. After troubleshooting the problem, I found the "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can" help page, and attempted each of the solutions listed. None of those solutions fixed the issue. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox; the issue persists. However, the 'new' version of Firefox remembered the tabs left open when the 'old' version was deleted, so some temporary files likely persisted.
    Are there any other steps that can be taken, or is Firefox on this computer no longer an option?

    Start with this;
    Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
    Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''Network.'''
    Look for '''Configure How Firefox Connects''' and press the '''Settings''' button.
    Check the settings.
    Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
    to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
    updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-firewalls-so-firefox-can-access-internet Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.]''' {web link}
    If there is still a problem, go to that computer and do this;
    Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press '''Enter.'''
    Under the main banner, press the button; '''Copy Text To Clipboard.'''.
    Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page,
    do a right click in the box and select '''Paste.'''

  • Firefox cannot load a directory content using file:///...

    I'm currently using Firefox 3.6.12 on Windows server 2003 64 bits.
    When browsing a smb share mounted on windows with an URL like:
    file:///L:/dossiers_techniques/bugs/I18n_Ndmp/dir-utf8/Mus-%F0%9D%84%9E
    (NB: it's displayed without the %xy stuff but using the appropriate font and glyph)
    I simply obtain the following error page:
    XML Parsing Error: reference to invalid character number
    Location: file:///L:/dossiers_techniques/bugs/I18n_Ndmp/dir-utf8/Mus-%F0%9D%84%9E
    Line Number 184, Column 76:<title>Index of file:///L:/dossiers_techniques/bugs/I18n_Ndmp/dir-utf8/Mus-&#xd834;&#xdd1e;</title>
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------^
    NB: I've crafted this folder and its content for I18N test purposes in the applications I'm working on.
    And this specific Firefox test was triggered by a more complex configuration involving Flex and Java which thrown an exception (java.io.UTFDataFormatException).
    As a matter of fact, using Firefox 3.0.8 running on linux, I can browse the same directory (shared and mounted through nfs) with just the small graphical issue that the single G CLEF glyph is displayed as two unknown glyphs:
    Index of file:///usr/people/lps/dossiers_techniques/bugs/I18n_Ndmp/dir-utf8/Mus-
    I've uploaded the same "dir_utf8" content on a web server, (see URL given in the "URL of affected site" which is NOT affected): it works pretty find, if the character encoding is manually set to "Unicode (UTF-8)".
    Hence it does seem that this issue is Windows or cifs or file: protocol related.

    Hello,
    I have found a similar problem, I think the problem my be with your acrobat settings.
    On Acrobat 5. open an existing pdf file. Then on the menu go to Edit\Preferences\General. => A new screen should pop-up, click on 'Options' on the left hand side, and then check out your WEB OPTIONS. I tend to untick the 'Display PDF in Browser' and leave the others ticked.
    I hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know why after upgrading to Mavericks, Safari will not display PDF files, is there a solution?

    I cannot get Safari to display PDF files, it shows a blank screen with the comment that Safri has blocked PDF, however when you unblock it still does not show the PDF, I have had to rely on Firefox for this, which I find not too good. Any help very much appreciated.

  • Firefox cannot load websites, but other programs can. Listed guide/faq not effective.

    I went through the FAQ guide for firefox not loading webpages, but after having changed both boolean setting in the about:config section of the firefox advanced settings, deleting and re-adding it to the program permissions list in my firewall (mcafee antivirus 2011), and even attempting to completely disable the firewall for a period of time, I am still unable to browse the internet on firefox. Internet explorer, however, does work.

  • IE 7 not displaying PDF files

    WinXP SP3 desktop
    Installed: Acrobat Reader 9 and Acrobat 6.0 Professional
    Up until recently, when an update from MS and adobe were installed, Internet Explorer 7 has been displaying PDF files when clicking on a link to the document. I do not know which company is at fault for compatibility here, but I would prefer to have IE7 read/save PDF docs. As it is now, an window pops up (no error number) saying "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again." I click the OK button then Acrobat 6.0 Pro loads and with no document showing. Simply turns on. I open any PDF file manually using either Reader 9 or Pro 6, but IE7 will only come up with above msg.
    Corrective actions attempted were:
    1) Reinstall Reader 9 on top of itself.
    2) In Pro 6, Edit | Preferences | Internet and deselected "Display PDF in browser, restarted program, went back to re-select it, restarted program.
    I did notice a new process running named: wisptis.exe
    The error message above sounds more like to me that the Pro is assigned the job to read downloaded PDF files, but with the Web Browser Option set to "Display PDF in browswer", I do not know why IE7 is not reading them.
    Thank you for your help in advance.

    Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
    Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Launch Safari. See if that made a difference.
    Also, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Make sure it's not an Extension preventing PDF's from rendering.

  • Firefox will not load. It says firefox cannot load, your profile is missing or inaccessiable. Help!

    All of sudden firefox would not work. When I click on the icon, I get a message that says Firefox cannot load, your profile is missing or is inaccessiable. Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

    Firefox cannot load ANY websites, but IE can, even after I tried all the ideas in the current articles on this topic as of March 10, 2011!
    One day it was fine, and the next day it stopped working! I have tried everything suggested under the topic "Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can."

    You should e able to install FlashPlayer separately on IE and Firefox. So you may use Flash 11.3 on IE and 11.2 or 10.3 on Firefox.
    Work from the administrator account. First of all sort out Firefox, use the Adobe uninstaller to uninstall Flash before reinstalling 11.2 Afterwards check that IE is ok, the Uninstaller may have changed that so you may need to reinstall Flash on IE.
    * see instructions in [[flash 11.3 crashes]]
    You are apparently using an outdated Firefox 8. That is not secure you should update to the latest Release Firefox 13 (or within a day or so Firefox 14)
    You may also encounter problems relating to use of RealPlayer software and that software may affect use of FlashPlayer 11.3
    * see also [[Fix problems with RealPlayer add-ons]]
    * a user ''blacksabath710'' recently posted a workaround in [/questions/931055] suggesting use of free software from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/
    P.S.
    When you finish set Firefox's FlashPlayer not to upgrade, and until this issue is resolved do not follow suggestions from Adobe, or Plugincheck etc. to upgrade Flash.
    Use this test page form Adobe in each browser and account to check Flash is working ok
    * http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
    The test page will display version information and error messages or a Flash animation to prove flash is working.

    Well, this is embarrassing. We tried to display this Web page, but it's not responding.
    Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it.
    Or sometimes for the last tab it shows :

    Of course other browsers works 'perfectly' onto loading sites.
    What can I do. Is this an e10s bug, that I could help to qualify and how?
    Also looking for a workaroud. I want to restore my tabs onto a non-e10s window, but really don't figure how to do that. Means, after relaunching FF-nightly, restore my windows and tabs.
