Firefox closes when opening mulitiple tabs even in the safe mode

Opening mulitle tabs from NY Times or Washington Post website.
Firefox will close.
Upon reopening, I activate "Restore Session" and all of the tabs load.
I have disabled JavaScript.
It has done this in the "safe" mode.

Thanks for the note about profile locations.
I deleted mimeType.rdf in my existing profile, still have the same issue - can't view Tools -> Options for the Applications tab, or download a file. Same goes for a new profile - the same issues arise.
Firefox never does crash, I can leave it in this hung state for hours (I left it in a 'not responding' state last night and it was still hung this morning).
I was going to add a screen shot to this post but Firefox hung when I clicked on the 'Browse' button. Perhaps this is an issue when FF tries to interact with my directory structure? Does that get us any leads on what's wrong?
FYI, I currently have my antivirus disabled & not running in the task bar just in case that was interfering somehow.

  • After installing 3.6 FF won't open even in the safe mode, I click on the icon and nothing happens at all

I installed 3.6 and now FF won't open even in the safe mode. I restored my computer setting back to where I was running 3.5.13 but it still doesn't work...some files must have been deleted when I upgraded that weren't put back even when going back to the older version but I have no idea what to look for or what to do even if I find them. Can you please help me?

Using system restore can create problems as well as solving them. I have seen system restore destroy a Firefox setup. The installation may be OK but to be sure perform a clean install
    # [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox Uninstall Firefox]
    # Delete the Firefox [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory Installation directory], default location C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    # Download the latest version from http://www.mozilla.com/ and install it
If Firefox still does not start, try creating a new profile folder. Firefox stores user data in a profile folder, creating a new profile will show if the problem is with the old profile. For how to do that see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows creating a new Firefox profile on Windows].
If the new profile works, you can copy selected data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. For details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox transferring data to a new profile]. Do not copy the preferences file, and it is best to re-install any add-ons.

  • Firefox crashes when opening new tab

    Crash-ID: bp-681f1751-fc5b-4f14-a30b-f93ed2150407
    I have tryed:
Clean install (with removing of C:prog..\mozilla)
    Uninstalling and deleting extensions
Restarted Firefox in safe mode without addons/extensions.
    Uninstalling/updating flash/adobe
I can start firefox, but when i press the "+" to open a new tab Firefox closes and "Mozilla Crash-report" window opens.
It seems like firefox it self can open a tab. For example when i do a fresh installation, Firefox opens with 2 tabs.
But when i want to open one it fails and Firefox shuts down. Its really wierd because i have never run in to this kind of problem before and i dont recall installing anything new before this problem showed up.

What is the setting of the new tab page?
You can check the <b>browser.newtab.url</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thx! For some reason the string was set to "about:newtab" or something like that. Changed the name to my default homepage and the problem was fixed. Any ideas on why this happend? I didn't change it myself.
Never the less! Thank you for saving my haircolour from turning gray of frustration. Was worried i had to turn to Chrome or.... IE....

  • Firefox hangs when opening Tools - Options, even in Safe Mode

I've just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.13. Prior to upgrading I removed all add ons. I went to Tools -> Options to check the settings and Firefox hung. I had to end it with Ctrl-Alt-Del. This happened several times. Then I started Firefox in Safe Mode and attempted to view Tools -> Options again. Firefox hung. It does not try to submit any crash reports (apart from the automatic Microsoft report that occurs when you end a program manually).
I can browse websites ok, open PDFs, view Flash, etc. I just can't view my options!

  • Firefox will not open even in the safe mode

Started with the addition of beta 4 where gmail would not open and it froze firefox. Added whatever the new addition was yesterday (3/14/11) and then firefox would not even open. Tried safe mode but it still will not open. Error message below

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-beta.html
    * Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Create a new profile exclusively for the Firefox 4 version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

  • Firefox crashes on opening and will only start in safe mode

On starting, Firefox gives me 2 options: to reset Firefox or open in Safe mode. If I choose reset, it crashes.
I have restarted the computer, reinstalled Firefox and disables hardware acceleration. I have also checked that Windows update KB 2670838 does not exist on my system.

hello, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter '''about:crashes''' into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.
i'd also recommend to run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Firefox closes when I close ONLY my AOL tab

When I have maybe 5 or 6 tabs open, and I am done with my AOL mail tab and close it ONLY, the entire window with all of my pages close out. My system is set to recover the last tabs I had open, but when I reopen Firefox (I have to manually, the system does not even restart it), everything is gone. I tried opening AOL mail in another separate window, and this still happens (when I close out the AOL page only). I checked my updates and Firefox is the newest. I run both my security software programs 2 times per day, along with STOPzilla. It clears cookies and I have never had an issue until this past week. I have not downloaded anything new. All is fine as long as I do not open AOL mail. Thinking this was an AOL issue, I contacted them, and they assure me that it must be my issue (of course). I then removed and deleted the Firefox program and re-downloaded it....still no help.
I am using the latest AOL mail, and cannot help but wonder if there is something in that which causes me to lose everything. It's frustrating because none of my tabs are kept, even though I have it set to caution me before the Firefox window is closed, and remember my tabs for "next time

I open many tabs on firefox, many times when I close the first tab, the entire window closes, and I have to reopen the browser. • Firefox is not warning when closing multiple tabs, even though it is set to warn me in preferences!

Firefox is not warning when closing multiple tabs, even though it is set to warn me in preferences! Unchecking and rechecking the box does not help, it's as if Firefox is ignoring the option to warn when closing multiple tabs.

You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.
    * browser.showQuitWarning, see http://blog.zpao.com/post/3174360617/about-that-quit-dialog

    * browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    * browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use History > Restore Previous Session to get back the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:

I have set up Time Capsule to use with Time Machine but when I open Time Machine it 'cannot find' the Time Capsule and I have to 'Select the Disk' each time. In the Next Backup tab it always says "When disk is connected" even though the disk is already connected.

Your pro doesn't matter.. I presume it is happily working.
Your imac setup has got messed up because you changed from a local (my book being USB type I presume) to network drive. Did you do a clean install of Lion?
Did you use the backup from the Pro on the imac? Otherwise I don't see how the Pro shows up in use previous disk. Where is Pondini when you need him??
You cannot download Time Machine as an App and replace the current version. It is built into the OS.. the only way to do it is a clean install. Unfortunately that might be the only way around the issue.
There is a number of issues that Pondini has covered in the setup issues of troubleshooting.
This is the most relevant I think. http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html
But look at the whole section B setup problems.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If it was me, I would store all the info you need.. not using TM but using a straight copy of files.
Then clean install Lion. I doubt any of these issues would exist if you had not installed Lion over existing setup or used a different backup.
See if you can get Pondini to respond.. !!

  • Is it possible to force Firefox to load a url in a tab when opening a new page (before the page has loaded)?

Recently when using a rather unreliable internet connection I'm often get dropped connections that prevent pages from loading.
In the past this used to result in an "Unable to connect to server page" when the timeout happened, which was fine as I could just refresh the page.
These days however the page is timing out when the page is still on the about:blank stage (or stuck on the current page), before the url has been updated, so I'm losing the address.
Is there any way to force firefox to update the url as soon as the page load request is made, as opposed to when it recieves a response from the server (which is how it seems to work at the moment)?

If you click a link then Firefox may only be showing the URL on the location bar if at least there is a connection to the server.
If you are on Linux then it should take minutes before the connection times out, at least that is what I see (on Windows it is only 20 seconds). This might be different in case the connection drops.
There should be a try again button of the net error page to reload this link.
Don't you see such a button?
You can start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
