Firefox comes up with a split screen, the right side of which is the one I want to retain as the only opening window (blank), and the left side of which (a sign-on page for a favourite site) I would like not to have sitting there. Is this normal? Or did I somehow (erroneously) make it happen? How can I get rid of the left pane so that only one pane (the right, 'blank') appears when I log on to Firefox?

Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

After reverting to Firefox 3.6 I have lost the ability to close a webpage (down to an empty tab) when I have only one tab open. Where did the little "x" go on the single tab???

I like to be able to close the webpage I am viewing when I am finished, when there is only one tab open, so that Firefox is empty when I next want to browse the web. After upgrading to 5.0 and finding I hated it, I downgraded back to 3.6 and now the little "x" on the single tab is gone. Also, I have two computers and the other is running the exact same version of Firefox, and the exact same theme, but it does not have this problem.
To make sure I'm being clear: there is an "x" on each tab that allows me to close it when I have multiple tabs open. When I have only one tab open, there is no "x"; so in order to close the webpage I have to open another empty tab, and then close the first. My other computer has the "x" to close the tab visible even when there is only one tab so that I can close the page and have an empty (marked "(untitled)" tab). Please help!

Sometimes Firefox comes up normally. More often, I get a blank screen without my home page which is Google. I *think* this happens if I already have an internet site open, but it was never a problem before version 5.
When it happens, I have to close Thunderbird, the program I have open, and THEN I can open firefox. Not good.

When using firefox and each time I open a new tab I end up with a split screen and it is annoying. How so I fix it.

I open firefox. Go to website then where there is a + sign I open a new tab. A new tab comes up but then splits the screen into two with a new tab in the middle and I end up with 3 small split screens in the one instead of 3 separate tabs.because it is doing that i cannot then get a full screen and go about my usual business. Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Safari folder.
Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.

I was having the same issue up until I found a solution myself a few minutes ago. If you have "Accept Third Party Cookies" un-checked it will not allow the embedded "Third party" youtube videos to load. You can either Check the box to allow third party cookies or add an exception to allow youtube.com WITHOUT the www. You just want it to be Youtube.Com.
To do so just go to Tools: Options: Privacy: Exceptions: Type in Youtube.com and click Allow. Then click Close and OK. It should start working immediately.

If you have AppleCare and/or iPod Nano is still under warranty, give them a call. If not, take the computer to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will tell you what is wrong w/it and let you know if it can be fixed after it is examined.

Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick. I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally. I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again. I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time. Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black. I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]

Just press F11 on your keyboard to exit full screen mode.

This issue can be caused gadgets on the Facebook page.
You will have to check that out by removing each of them until you find the culprit.
