FireFox CPU goes to 100% by backgroundshift
Sorry for my bad english..
Running a simple scrollroutine my cpu use is low :
Hello,
if you have your note for a year or more and did not take it for an internal heatsink clean and essentials parts, yet.
One possible problem here is: Heatsink blocked with dust (CPU goes to 100% state svchost takes all resources)
90% of the high temperatures problems, unexpected shutdowns, 100%CPU all the time without running background processes, very hot keyboard area, freezing programs, are caused by the heatsink blocked with dust.
The normal temperature for the processor is between 55C and 79C. For the motherboard is around 55C~60C. When the heatsink is blocked those temperatures can reach 99C (processor) and around 80C (motherboard). Measure in Celsius degrees.
You can check it out how "hot" your Qosmio is.
Download the Everest ultimate 2006 edition V 3.50.761, look for it with Google search.
Run it and see the temperatures for CPU, Processor and motherboard on your Qosmio:
See:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioeverest.jpg
Run the System stability test (find it under tools menu) for 10 minutes aprox.
Watch the temperatures at taskar. If it reachs more than 92C for the processor on stress mode, its time to clean the heatsink and all essential parts of your Qosmio. Attempt to the processor fan RPM, too, if they run fast and noisy, you really must perform a clean.
But it depends on the ambient environment, for a 30C summer day the processor temperature almost get the 90C. this is normal in stress mode. And the fans run without noise. Slow RPM mode.
All measured in Celsius degrees, for Farenheith please convert it.

When starting Firefox 3.6.11 the CPU goes to 100%.
After upgrading from 3.6.10 to 3.6.11 I'm unable to start Firefox in a reasonable period of time (3 minutes). The CPU goes to 100% for one of my 4 cores, when left to its own, the Firefox window appears after 18 minutes 43 seconds. My CPU is a Q6700 (Quad 2.66Ghz).
How can I go back to 3.6.10??

I can open itunes. I can not click on anything on the page without my cpu going to 100% and freezing my computer. If I type in an artist in the search I can sometimes look and purchase music. If I go to another artist my cpu goes to 100% and freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is to go to Windows Task Manager and end task on itunes.

Importing Audio CD to library, downloads slow and CPU goes to 100%,
Importing Audio books CDs to library, downloads slow and CPU goes to 100%, last two tracks take an extreme long time to load, audio is spotty on those two tracks. Any ideas as to why or how to correct
I think your problem might be in the settings. Your audiobooks might be trying to download like music CDs, and doing error checking and playing while it downloads.
Here's a link to some really helpful information about how iTunes treats audiobook CDs and how to do it better. It helped me out a lot.

Good luck.

Have installed, uninstalled itunes on xp machine and tried all the fixes given in the discussion groups, plus cnet and other internet fixes.....nothing works. After installation of itunes cpu usage goes to 100 percent and itunes stops. Cpu stays at 100 percent until I uninstall itunes. By the number of posts on the internet, I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed this issue with a fix.
I had the same problem but this worked for me.
Get to a dos command prompt and type: netsh winsock reset
You will need to reboot your computer but it fixed tocpu 100% issue.
Good luck -

Firefox announces it cannot provide a crash report on the crashI have similar problem only using XPPro/SP3. Once open even if just sitting unused it continues to gobble memory and crashes. It crashed a couple of times a day since the update, has locked the system up a couple of times and crashed a total of 14 times today, the last three while trying to send crash reports. All since the 3.6.17 update. It has become unusable (I'm posting this from Opera 11). From scanning the forum looks like Apple folks are having similar problems with the last update as well.
If I was of a paranoid turn of mind I'd think it was a way to get people to move to FF4. -
ITunes 9.1 - CPU goes to 100% when playing prot. AAC - clicks and gaps
Since downloading 9.1, there are clicks and gaps when I play protected AAC songs on iTunes. Songs play fine with QuickTime player. When a protected song is played in 9.1, iTunes absorbs all available CPU.
I have followed all remediation steps in the apple.com support site including turning off sound enhancer, checking for driver updates, etc. I have also set buffering to maximum.
If I play an AAC protected song for more than a few seconds it becomes impossible to pause it and all other applications running freeze. This happens even when there are no other applications running . . . it is not a conflict problem with other applications. itunes absorbs whatever cpu there is left to take. Consistently using 60-90% of CPU w/ total CPU @ 100% constantly (when an AAC protected song is played).
iTunes works fine as long as the song is not protected.
I cannot find anything on the apple site to allow me to go back to 9.0. Why can't apple allow one to step back to the previour version? I am seriously looking at getting permanently off of iTunes. Each new release is harder to use and performs more poorly.Unfortunately I have the same problem since I installed Itunes 9.1 anche this problem is shown in a lot of thread.....
I am seriously disappointed cause I BOUGTH these music and it's unbelieveble that Itunes doesn't play its music (sorry for my english...I am writing from Italy...).
I am afraid that it's an Intel Atom processor conflict.
I have already update everything was possible to update (driver, codecs, setting audio configuration, energy saving...) but I didn't find any stuff to solve this issue... -

After It eventaully finds the needed address, either from my stored addresses or the LDAP server, it will continue at 100% for some time before the message eventuall sends and things return to normal.

After 9.1.0 update, DJ goes to 100% CPU
Windows 7, Celeron D 3.33Ghz, VIA motherboard, 2Gb ram, well over 500Gb free drive space, Vid is NVIDIA Geforce 9500GT, sound SB Audiogy.
---All drivers were updated prior to the update---
After I updated to 9.1.0, every time I try to play anything in DJ my CPU goes to 100% and iTunes grabs 1.5Gb of RAM from a couple hundred Mb. This ONLY happens using DJ regardless of the file being played. DOES NOT happen in Music, any of the play lists I've created, or when I play radio stations or pod casts or playing videos. JUST when I use DJ
* Restarting does not help
* Uninstalled /reinstalled
* Uninstalled, axed every reference in the Registry to iTunes, Apple, and Quicktime, and reinstalled
* Closed all other allowable processes, tray items, and gadgets
* Does it in Safe Mode too
I can't ask Apple for help since I don't have a spare $25 I can just blow. Anyone here have any ideas?
Message was edited by: A KingI was having the same problem with PDF files.
I tried all the suggestions.
Nothing worked correct in my case.
Finally I found a hint somewhere on internet and that solved my problem.
I opened the Diplay properties and changed the ICON SIZE (for all files) to LARGE.
Click APPLY
The PDF Icon was restored.
Again I set back the ICON SIZE to previous size (SMALL)
PDF Icon was not affected (It remained correct)
This information is for all the friends suffering like me.
O Yes. Have you installed "TweakUI (PowerToy)".
I think the PDF Icon disappeared somehow because of it.
But I am not sure. -
CPU load goes to 100% with IMAQ interface and 4 serial ports. Any trick?
Hello to all,
I am using an IMAQ interface in conjunction with 4 serial ports for data acquisition. Both systems run with different VI's. My problem comes when I run both at the same time. In this case the CPU goes to 100%, and both programs slow down drastically. I must keep a sample rate between 300 and 600 ms for the test (easily achieved by the IMAQ or when I run only the VI for the serial ports), but unfortunately the sample rate goes to 3-4 seconds when running both programs at the same time.
I have put “Wait (ms)” in every single while loop, but the delay stays and the CPU is still on the 100%.
Do you have any clue to overcome this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Alejo.Ok, this is my VI for the data aquisition through the 4 serial ports. The block diagram of the IMAQ sofware is password protected and I cannot send it at this time. I hope the problem is in the first one.
Again, thanks.
Alejo.

Today, Firefox 35.0.1 tries to open in Windows 7 but mem usage goes to 100%, CPU goes to 90% & Firefox along with the whole computer locks up
You can check if you can start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> by holding down the Shift/Options key.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Safari goes to 100% CPU and stays there on certain websites
I got a new computer a month or two ago (a Powerbook 1.67), and used apple's migration assistant to transfer all my stuff over from that comp to this one. Ever since I've started using the comp, when I use safari to load certain pages or parts of pages, such as www.mapquest.com (when I try to type in the directions from/to box, or try to load recent searches) or www.orbitz.com (any time I'm on the results screen once I've searched for a flight or some such), the CPU load goes to 100%, and stays there until I close the tab with that site in it (even with safari in the background), and anything else I try to do until the tab is closed runs like molasses. This definitely did not ever happen with my old Powerbook 867, but I don't recall installing any new safari extensions or plug-ins since I got the new computer, so I'm somewhat mystified as to what is causing it. Do you guys have any thoughts as to what it might be, or suggestions as to how best to go about figuring it out?
Thanks for any help you can provide.Safari has been known to cause cpu usage to spike. If nothing else, report the pages to Apple using "Report Bugs to Apple" under the Safari menu.
One of the Safari issues in the OS X 10.4.4 update was:
Addresses an issue in which some websites, such as www.cbsnews.com, could cause CPU usage to spike unnecessarily, or cause Safari to stop responding, unless Safari's Enable JavaScript preference was deselected.
It is possible that they didn't get it completely fixed.
I have also noticed that Safari slows down after being open for an extended period or if I have tons of tabs open, although it is not as bad as it once was. Additionally, regardless of anything else, it does appear that some sites slow down Safari's performance and/or spike the cpu usage until I close that tab. (I've had this happen to me with Firefox as well, by the way). -
When viewing flash video, CPU Usage goes to 100%
When I try to watch a streaming video that uses Flash Player (say nbc.com),
my CPU Usage goes to 100%. It causes the audio to crackle, video to freeze,
and ultimately locks up my whole computer. When I check Task Manager,
the Flash Player usage is through the roof. If I can manage to pause the video,
the Flash Player usage drops down to 5%, and similarly overall CPU usage down to only around
5%, but as soon as I press play . . . It very rapidly within 20 seconds sends CPU usage
to 100%. This happens in either Firefox or IE. This is assuming that I can pause the
video quick enough. If I don't, the whole CPU crashes with usage locked at 100%, and
only a hard reboot (power button) will work.
I am running the most recent versions of Flash Player and Firefox on Windows 7.
More specifically:
Flash Player version: 11.5 r502
Firefox version: 18.0.1
I am running Windows 7 Home-Premium 32-bit.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.10 GHz 2.10GHz
Memory: 4GHz installed (2.87 GHz usable)
I have already followed the steps in the "Windows 7 Flash Player Problems" list.
I.E. deleting Flash Player cache, and disabling Hardware Acceleration
But this has not solved the problem.
Please help!!
Thanks!Hi Chris,
I've recorded the complete DXDIAG report at the bottom.
I tried the HTML5 video, and it plays smoothly with no problems,
total CPU usage always stayed below 10%, and Flash was always at 0%.
I tried the non-HMTL5 video, and it did play fine all the way through,
Flash Player usage seemed to fluctuate between 10-20%, with memory
usage slowly creeping up to 93,000K. Typically on the videos on NBC.com
say, the flash player usage would rapidly go to 150,000K and simultaneously
the flash player CPU usage would skyrocket: 20%, 40%, 70%, . . . taking
the CPU usage to 100% and causing the problems I mentioned. In
fact, YouTube is probably one of the few video sites where I typically
don't have problems. Once the Flash Player would get out of hand, typically
the video would start skipping and the audio crackling, then audiodg.exe
would start using 10% resources which would aggravate the problem.
Hopefully you will notice something from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
In the meantime, I will try the Flash 11.6 Beta.
Here is the complete record from DXDIAG:
