Firefox crashed on opening-reported, no response to report-can my Bookmarks be recovered after following various crash recovery recomm?

After downloading supposedly the latest version of Firefox, when a popup window stating "update to the latest Version" believe it was #8.0, & computer restarted, I began having problems. My AVG toolbar was deleted on download restart.
Further problems developed when I went to your website's download link and downloaded the add-on for "Invisible hand" the shopping comparison site that was highly recommended.
On ropening Firefox, I received a window & message that it Crashed--never!!! had this problem in the past with FFox! I reported it several times, via the message box and tried repeatedly to reopen it--even hours later--FFox would only reopen the "Crashed " message box and I again resent the report! However, no response was received from Mozilla since yesterday.
I cannot open FFox--on attempt to open, I only get the "Crashed" mesage box.
I just now went to your website via "IE" and found the Troubleshooting guide and info on "Crashes"--but I am concerned about which "recovery " method to attempt--mainly because of my concern about losing all my "Bookmarks"--many are Business related!
Is there a way to recover my Bookmarks & if so, what is the best recovery method to use?
Background: I am using Windows XP, SP3-- AVG anti-virus (Free Version) and it is/was fully up to date before the Crash occurred. Ad aware and Spy-bot (both free editions) were recently updated before the crash.

Both Trusteer Rapport and Roboform are known to cause Firefox 8 to crash, even in Safe Mode.
Do you have '''Trusteer Rapport''' installed? If so, disable it.

Also, Firefox 8.0.1 was released 11/22/11 and has a patch for some crashes on Windows, but it's not being pushed as an update to all Firefox 8.0 users on Windows - you need to download it separately and install it yourself. <br />

    hello, this sounds a bit as if the ctrl-key on your keyboard is constantly pressed - maybe it's a hardware issue, can you try with a different keyboard?

  • Google Chrome and Firefox won't open any sites. Internet explore can.

    Internet Explorer will run any sites. After installing google chrome and firefox its opens the browser but then when i enter a site, any site, it just wont go... It's not giving me an error message... i push the "enter" key and the busy locator, the circle thing that rotates to indicate the page is loading. it just pops for like 1 sec still remains on the main page.

  • When I open firefox, my homepage opens as do two other tabs I have bookmarked, but not asked to save.

    Pretty much what it says above. I've got nothing saved that tells me to reopen these pages but whenever I launch Firefox, I get three tabs automatically open:
    1) home page.
    2) BBC radio player.
    3) a message board I use.
    I can't seem to find a way to get it to stop loading these pages.

    Does this also happen on other browsers? If it's only Firefox, try clearing your cache: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+clear+the+cache
    If that doesn't work, try deleting your Facebook cookies (no data will be lost): https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Deleting+cookies
    If that doesn't help, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Help! Recovering after hard drive crash? Saving backups??

    My drive crashed a few weeks ago and I lost everything I'd created with iWeb 2008. I downloaded all the files from my website, thinking I could just recompile it in iWeb, but iWeb doesn't even have and "open file" option. Am I just screwed? Do I have to start over from scratch?
    Also, why doesn't iWeb allow you to save a backup of your working document??? If I could have done that, I wouldn't be in this mess!

    Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
    Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.

    My old computer's hard drive recently crashed and I lost all the applications I had installed into it. I had purchased CS5 and installed it with a disc, and I have the serial number and I have registered the product. Am I able to redownload CS5 onto my new computer?

    Thanks for the example.  It's very straightforward to do in PSE, and you have a lot of control over how the effect is created at each stage of the procedure.
    Here's the original:
    Duplicate your background layer, and work on that duplicated layer.
    Enhance...Convert to Black and White.  (I used the default settings for "Scenic Landscape"):
    Add a Photo Filter adjustment layer with these settings to get a sepia-toned image:
    Add a new, empty layer above the photo filter layer.
    Make a selection of your choice.  (I used the Elliptical Marquee, but your example looks like a Rectangular Marquee was used.)  Use Select...Transform Selection to fine-tune the size, etc.:
    Use Select...Feather, and give it a lot -- I used 150pixels.
    Select...Inverse.
    With that top, empty layer selected, use the Fill Tool with white as the Foreground colour and an Opacity setting of 67% to fill in your "frost".

    1. Are you using any macros or plugins that may need to be updated?
    2. Do you need to open the Shake scripts in TextEdit and change the file location?
    For example:

    Just prior to the crash...
    ...it seems like VS 2013 is attempting to log me in to a company server (active directory?). Regardless of my action (providing my login credentials or cancelling the login) VS 2013 then proceeds to crash.
    My other computers
    On my private laptop that connects to the internet via a private internet connection, the same type of project loads the configuration page w.o. issues (same VS and SDK configuration).
    Others have this issue as well

    Thanks for your answer - I have added my findings below:
    The problem apparently stems from the authentication process.
    If you are using your company email as username on Azure, the inherent domain name will cause the authentication method to redirect you to your company's Active Directory.
    The problem can be solved by choosing a different email as username on Azure.
    The problem can also be replicated by setting up a website with authentication using Azure Active Directory. During login through Azure AD, the exact moment you enter the domain name in your username, the login screen redirects you from the Azure AD to the
    AD at sts.[email domain name] - and consequently, the login fails. Using a different username the Azure AD authentication works flawlessly.

    When I try using FireFox, everything is opened by IE 9.

    This error can be caused by an extension that tries to install a plugin in a way that is not compatible with current Firefox versions.
    Do you see any disabled extensions in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions ?

    Using Windows 8.1 64x, AMD 7800 series card with the latest AMD 15.4 beta drivers. This driver release is prone to crashing. Spotify, though, doesn't recover after the driver crashes and only displays a black screen. Restarting the program fixes the problem, but it shouldn't have to be restarted in the first place.
