Firefox crashes a few seconds after opening except in safe mode - even after reinstall

When I open firefox it crashes a few seconds after opening.
I have backed up my profile, uninstalled and reinstalled. (But not restored any of my profile). But it is still crashing in the same way.
These are the last 5 crash logs
Crash ID: bp-6eebd291-e610-46fb-9066-b93052130305
Crash ID: bp-31e5523c-efaf-46a2-88df-ca67a2130305

Crash ID: bp-31fb2a06-2ed0-48aa-b866-d209d2130305
I think the initial problem might have been caused by IB Updater - IncrediBar
I have uninstalled this in the windows control panel and it no longer shows up in the add-ons list (in safe mode). I have also run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but this didn't find anything.
I am also running Avast Anti virus.
The trouble shoot information below if from running in safe mode as it doesn't stay open long enough in normal mode.
Any help greatly appreciated !

Thanks!! That worked a treat and I wouldn't of ever thought this was the problem :)
Really appreciate your quick reply.

Hold the shift key down and launch Safari.

  • Mozilla keeps crashing and i can only open it in safe mode. How do I fix this?

I tried un-checking use hardware acceleration and tried to open but all it said was that i have to close mozilla because there is already a version running but hadnt even clicked on mozilla yet so i checked the box again and the crash report came back. I'm writing this in safe mode.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

I have noticed this problem with some webpages that while opening them firefox suddenly stops browsing for few seconds but after that it starts browsing and opens the remaing content on the page with in 1 to 2 seconds. Sometimes firefox stops for much time like 6 to 8 seconds.

    Hi Macdunet,

  • Firefox crashes for 10 seconds when trying to download files, deleting downloads.sqlite, reinstalling firefox, disable all add-ons doesn't solve this problem. Help!

I am having this problem for weeks now.
    What I tried:
    - Defragmentation
    - Reinstall Firefox on a different location
    - Change download location
    - Start Firefox in safe mode and try download
    - Disable all add-ons and plug-ins
    - Complete malware/spyware scan
    - Complete virus scan
    - Delete downloads.sqlite in the profile folder
    - Uninstall firefox and delete the entire mozilla folder in Roaming location
    - Disabling antivirus
Nothing helps! I'm only having this problem in Firefox. Downloading with Chrome for example doesn't give any problems.
How can I resolve this problem? I'm really desperate.
    Thank you in advance!
    Yanco

Thanks for your input but I already said that I deleted downloads.sqlite.

  • Safari won't open except in safe mode - why?

This all started when I was updating my iPhone via my MacBook last week. I've completed all updates but as I'm not tech savvie I'm totally at a loss...

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
    exec sh
in the window and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If it happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Mouse freezes while using Firefox. No other programs affected. Also in safe mode. Tried reinstall without resolution. Disabled Addons. Happens especially while loading pages but also at other times.

    Hi.
The mouse freezes when using firefox. No other programs are causing this problem, which stops immediately once I use CTRL-ALT-DELETE to delete the firefox task.
I have done a full uninstall of firefox after trying safe mode without resolution. I deleted the install directory to make sure that no files remained in the default installation area.

Hmm...that's the last place I'd expect an issue?
EDIT: Wait... if you didn't migrate the first time you booted up the system in Setup Assistant than you may have created another Home folder. Check your /Users in Safe Mode.
Thought twice about cracking open a new MBP, but spent quite a bit of cash fitting SSDs in 2 desktops and a laptop 6 months ago, so didn't feel like coughing up another 600 USD again.
Yes, that what I thought and in concept it's a good idea but I'm actually quite hardware challenged myself, so wouldn't even dream of it
Again, there's a lot of savvy hardware folks here, so I hope you get some concrete help.

  • Latest version of firefox crashing a few seconds after starting

Hello, after updating to the latest version of Android Firefox (33.0), the app keeps stopping (doesn't force close, just kicks me back to my homescreen).
Have tried clearing cache and clearing data, which doesn't achieve anything, can't see anything amiss in the logcat.
Are there any known bugs that might cause this? Are there any diagnostics that I can run to help isolate what might be causing the issue?

If reinstalling does not resolve this issue there are some more troubleshooting steps to take including having clear steps for reproducing.
There are some resources that can be helpful in this situation:
    *[https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Remote_Debugging Remote Debugging in Android]
*Submitting crash reports from the about:support page
    * Troubleshooting to see if there is an issue with an add on or antivirus scanner on the device
    * Adding the troubleshooting information from the about:support page
All of this information is useful when filing a bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org. As well as how to get involved :-) [https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Get_Involved]

I click the firefox icon in my dock and am immediately presented with a crash report. I tried opening it again and copied everything from the 'details' screen of the crash report which I will post below.

I don't know if you've solved your problem, yet. But I've been battling these Firefox (and Thunderbrid) crashes for the past two days. I use Mac OS 10.6.8. I am now using Google Chrome (which you can download via another browser) and discovered how to import the bookmarks from Firefox. I'm enclosing the screenshot of the process. At the top you will see the little brown wrench. Click on that wrench and the menu will drop down as indicated on the screenshot. You then click on Import Bookmarks and settings and it will give you the option of selecting Safari or Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox, but the bookmark folder is separate from Firefox and you can import it. I hope this helps.

My ipad 2 keeps crashing a few seconds after it is switched on....
this happened after i downloaded and installed the latest IOS 7.0.4 from APPLE
    what is going on ??
I read that quite a few people have experienced the same problem....
Is there a cure ?? If so how ???
    Many Thanks

Is it possible the battery is getting low? Try this procedure.
Plug your iPad into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • Firefox Hanging Every Few Seconds

I just installed brand new Firefox 25.0.1 on a Mac Mini (running Mountain Lion 10.8.2) just two weeks ago, and since day one I've been having the same problem that lots of other people are having, and that's the constant half-second delays that happen about every 4 to 5 seconds. Even typing this post, the delays are there. Pulling down menus and selecting items, trying to move the scroll bar, or playing youtube videos, Firefox keeps hanging briefly every few seconds. It's maddening.
I never had any problem with Apple's Safari browser (the only reason I switched to Firefox was because Safari Ad Block stopped working and I needed Download Helper). That this problem exists on PC and Mac means it's nothing specific to the computer, but to Firefox.
What I wish would not be given the same generic advice that never seems to work, like reinstall Firefox (it was already installed cleanly, what would a reinstall do?), but have somebody at Mozilla actually explain what is causing the problem, or if they plan to ever fix it.
So far I only have a temporary fix, which is to completely quit out of Firefox and re-run it. That solves the problem for a little while, but within an hour or two, or three, it's back to the same problem. There are plenty of other threads that mention this or similar problems (see below), but all seem to be on PC's not Macs, and none seem to give a 100% universal fix for everybody.
How to stop Firefox from hanging and lagging?
firefox freezes every few seconds even with latest update and pluging
my Firefox freezes every a few seconds , so will you fix it ?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

If I need to delete and reinstall it will I lose all my saved websites? I have hundreds from years now..it would be awful to lose them all..

Note that installing a Firefox Beta release will put you on the Beta update channel, so do not forget to install the regular Firefox 28.0 version once it gets released.<br />
The Beta version usually gets updates twice a week.
Always make sure not to remove personal data in case you decide to uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox crashes as soon as I open it--I cannot even submit a crash report

Firefox crashes as soon as I open it. As far as I know, I haven't been able to submit crash report. I was playing Farmville when it crashed, about a month or two ago, and did submit a crash report then, all this in suppost has been no help, since I can't get Firefox to open in first place. I can only use IE now, so cannot go to about crashes in location bar.

    Hi Deborah,
I would recommend trying to start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] - if that works, something within FF (extension of some kind) is probably the cause.
