Firefox crashes after any new tab opens

Firefox keeps crashing
have reinstalled and follow all other mozilla tips. can't recall doing anything new to have started it

Running Firefox on Windows XP3. I installed a plugin from Savevid.com, which they now require. (I've used that site for at least a year with no problem ever.) Everything was fine but it added a toolbar to my browser, and it seems to have reset Firefox somehow so that any new tab opens on "Searchqu", some low-rent search engine. I uninstalled the plug-in altogether, but the toolbar is still there, and I can't make the reset on the search engine go away. I use Tab Mix Plus (also never had this problem before with it), but no matter what I do, the tabs will not open to anything other than searchqu. (Tab Mix has the option to open to a duplicate tab - what it was using BEFORE all this - but changing that no longer has any effect.)
Anyone know how to deal with a problem like this?

Am using Firefox 5.0.1, any new tabs open with a search engine for imvu and when I go to about:config there is no entry for browser.newtab.url that I can modify

I am using Firefox 5.0.1.4205 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack1. My new tabs in Firefox open with a search engine for imvu rather than google as I would prefer. I can't find an answer to my problem so far because when I try the recommended use of about:config and finding browser.newtab.url; it is not listed. Is this version of firefox to old to have that, or is it just missing? What can I do to get my new tabs to open with a Google search engine. This is on my 80 year old father's computer so he is not likely to upgrade browsers as I would on my home computer. Thank you for any help with this.

The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.
Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.

Is it possible in Firefox to have a new tab open to my home page? Currently, it is just blank. I have to click the 'Home' icon to load my home page. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

A blank page is the default for a new tab. You can middle-click the Home button to open a new tab with your homepage, or you can install this extension and set it for your homepage.

Every time I press 'enter' while using firefox, 2 or 3 new tabs open up with a website that I've never used. How do I stop this from happening? Thanks :)

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

New Tab Opens Slowly in Firefox 8

In Firefox 8, if I open a new tab, the tab opens in about 400 milliseconds and the display of the new tab perceptibly moves from the start of the tab on the left to the end of the tab on the right. If you close a tab the tab closes in the same time frame and you can see the tab moving from left to right. To me, this is annoying. In Firefox 3.6, the new tab opens and closes instantaneously. I have set my Windows 7 system's Visual Effects to best performance. Is there a way to make new tabs open more quickly without the unwanted visual effect?

Are you using the default theme or a custom theme?

Firefox will not open any new tabs since windows update

I have windows 7 64, and recently, when windows automatically updated, my firefox will not open any new tabs, manually or when opening a link...

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

Installed Flash Player 14, now I can't open any new tabs

This morning (June 11, 2014) I downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player 14 (because of an upgrade prompt) and now I can't open any new tabs. Links from emails will open new tabs - so will some internet links will open new tabs - but pressing the "+" does nothing. I tried reinstalling Flash Player. I tried downloading and installing a new Firefox.

If the Flash player plugin currently has the keyboard input focus, then it can intercept Command+t, but that shouldn't affect the new tab button.
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

3.6.16 Broke My Tabs!!!! I can't open any new tabs now

This morning I got a automatic Firefox update to 3.6.16. Foolishly I let the thing update.
Now, I can't open any new tabs!!!!!!!! I've tried all three methods. ctrl-t, file new tab, and of course the new tab button on the tab bar.
nothing works. It just ignores it and keeps the one tab open.
I did discover applications can still open a new tab. When I clicked firefox help, it opened in a new tab.
right click, and opening a link in a new tab works too.

What is the error message you get? If it's telling you to upgrade Numbers but you already have updated, then that means you probably are trying to open the document with the old version, which is still on your Mac, in a sub folder within Applications named iWork '09. Open the document with the Numbers that is in your Applications folder (not the one in a subfolder). It's easy to confuse the two, because the icons are similar.
If you're getting some other error message, could you post specifics?

Firefox 4 new tab opens new windows instead

After upgrade to Firefox 4, the feature "mouserightclick-open new tab" opens a new window, instead.
From then on, all "open new tab" operations open new tabs in the other window, the second one created.

Thanks for the hint, cor-el , but problem persisted even with all Add-ons disabled.
But after some 8 days and several O.S. reboots, the problem disappeared .
No action was taken, I suppose that it was some bug that the developers corrected.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".

Firefox switches immediately to new tab or the immediate next tab if multiple tabs are open, even when the respective feature is disabled, whenever I open a link by -
1. Right-click > open in new tab
2. Ctrl + click a link
Earlier it did not happen like this. It is really very annoying. Re-installation and clean installation of the latest version did not helped.
And this is happening mainly when I am using Facebook. Earlier it never happened so with Facebook.

I don't have the divX plug-in and I still have this problem. Why should plug-ins that are not even triggered by the affected pages alter Firefox's behavior. Feels like bad architecture.
