Firefox crashes after creating the default profile

Hi,
I'm using firefox in HP-UX 11.11. I see that when I open the
firefox for the first time and create a default profile the
firefox crashes with the following messages
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXt.sl
[Can't open shared library: libXt.sl]
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXext.sl
[Can't open shared library: libXext.sl]
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXm.sl
[Can't open shared library: libXm.sl]
What I'm missing?
When do we get the above errors.

Go to '''about:crashes''' in the address bar and copy and paste your crash reports here and I will determine what the problem is and what is causing Firefox to crash.

• IMovie is crashing after creating the large movie for YouTube.

Hey Guys!
So, I have been uploading to YouTube from iMovie for several years now and today I uploaded again as I usually do. The problem was that about 30 seconds before the end of my video it went black on YouTube! I deleted it off YouTube and reuploaded but it happened again! So, thinking that it was something on YouTube's end I deleted it but the next time I tried to upload, iMovie gave me this error message: "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Not enough room in heap zone / )"
Now when I try to upload, iMovie crashes after creating the large movie to upload to YouTube!
I have restarted my computer, deleted items to create extra space on my disk, and ejected my iPhone so nothing else happens while I'm trying to create the large movie.
Does anyone have an idea of what is happening and how to fix it?
Thank you!

I'm having a similar problem with Imovie 11. I wonder if the problem is in the new Mountain Lion update. Fortunatly, I cloned the drive befor installing the update. I've cloned this drive back to the original startup drive and gotten back to IMovie.

• How do I create a default profile for all users of a computer in Windows 7/Vista for Firefox versions above 8? I'd like all new users on a computer to get the same defaults, bookmarks, homepage, etc...

I have found help for this on older versions of Firefox, but I can't seem to find anything for the latest versions above 8. There must be someway to accomplish this for imaging on a large scale.

You can create a defaults\profile template folder in the Firefox program folder for new profiles the same way as in older versions. That folder only isn't there anymore because all files have been moved to the omni.ja(r) archive, so you need to create it yourself.

• How to create a default profile for all users in Firefox 9.

I run a computer lab, and am looking for a way to create a default profile in Firefox 9 that new users can use. I want them to be able to launch Firefox for the first time, and see my homepage. I want to disable any check for default browsers, firstrun pages, or any other prompts.
The old .adm files for group policy don't seen to be working any longer.

See http://www.frontmotion.com/Firefox/howtodeploy.htm
You can create a defaults\profile folder in the Firefox program folder and place files in it to be used to create and initialize a new profile.

• How does firefox create the default mimetypes.rdf file?

Hi, I am trying to update the default mimetypes.rdf file to add a list of new file types and the associated program to launch with but am struggling to find where/how the default mimetypes.rdf file is created.
The Omni.ja file within 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox' has a version of the file but it is blank, what populates this file?
I have tried replacing this file with the version we need to use, delete the Mozilla directory from my local profile and re-launch Firefox, but the newly generated mimetypes.rdf file is still the old version.
I am using Firefox version 10.0.6

Hi,
I am in the same situation than you but I forced firefox to take my own file if I remove it from my profile.
What i did:
1 Create my own custom mimetypes.rdf file. Firefox Interface - Options - Options - Applications...
2 Copy mimetypes.rdf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\browser\Defaults\profile
So, if I remove the mimetypes.rdf file from my profile it takes from default location fine. However deleting the profile, opening firefox again it doesn´t use my own mymtypes.rdf file in the new profile, insteant it creates the "default installation" one.
On the other hand, I tried to set pdfjs.disabled = true from about:config, however although it sets the default PDF app "Adobe Acrobat", it doesn´t work. It doesn´t open any pdf file.
I am thinking to create an advertised shortcut in order to replace the mimetype.rdf when the user starts firefox (I distribute the firefox settings in a MSI) depending of the date of the file but it will take a few seconds each time the user run firefox. I really don´t like it...
Sorry for don´t help too much...
If anyone could post how firefox create mimetypes.rdf in new profiles...

• Where is the default profile in Firefox copied from under Linux?

I'm trying to change a default setting in Firefox 3.6.6 under OpenSUSE 11.3. I need to disable network.dns.disableIPv6 globally for all users in their default profile. I cannot figure out where the file is that the default profiles are created from. Can anyone point me to this?

If you use a Firefox version from the OpenSUSE repositories then you probably find that template folder in the corresponding /usr/lib/xulrunner-xxx folder.
* /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.2.6/defaults/profile
If you've installed Firefox yourself then look for the Firefox installation folder.
Be aware that Firefox 3.6.6 is really old and outdated and you should at least update to the latest 3.6.27 version to get all security patches

Message to Toad-Hall
Thank you, for that. To be sure, I tried your suggestion, and selected "System Proxy" as the choice, for Thunderbird and Firefox. Rebooted, and looked at the outcome.. NO Joy.. :-(
I believe that I shall send the output of the Error Log in my next post. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction after looking at the Error.log.
Thank you...Toad Hall. If you think of something else to try, I am ALL ears.. I shall keep trying..

• Since loading the newest version, firefox crashes after a few hours of inactivity. Vista home is the OS.

Since loading the newest version of Firefox on my computer running Vista Home edition Firefox crashes after several hours of inactivity. If I leave the browser open and return in a few hours, Firefox hangs and a control/alt/delete pulls up "Firefox not responding" and I have to close the application. Upon opening it again I get the Firefox box of oops, do you wish to open a new session or return to the old one. This problem never happened in earlier versions. Also, you tout the newest version is faster - not so on my computer.

if you use vista, try install sp2, and if the problem still there , try google chrome 10.x to see whether it is better, sometimes these sort of problem only happen to some specific websites, and esp. during rush hours of internet, i.e. night hours from dusk to mid-night.

• My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S. If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply. If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

• Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

My Windows 7 crashed a couple days ago after a windows update, I got this message.
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
I restarted the machine and got this message

How can I get access to my user profile? do I need to createa new Administrator account? Please help
The EventSystem sub system is suppressing duplicate event log entries for a duration of 86400 seconds. The suppression timeout can be controlled by a REG_DWORD value named SuppressDuplicateDuration under the following registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\EventLog.

hi do the following
1. In Search programs and files (Windows 7) area, type in regedit, and press Enter.
2. If prompted click yes,
3. expand the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
4. click the sid that related to your admin profile (if you not sure, click each sid and in turn look to the right hand side of registry editor it will show who that sid is related to one of the registry files should hae in description localhost\admin or
something similair)
5. right click the sid and press delete.
6. restart your machine and log back on with the admin account, this will then rebuild the admin profile... dont worry when it loads and none of your personal settings are saved or files or folders... go to c:\users
in here you will see two folders for the admin account, one will be just admin and the other most likely admin.localhost
i cant remember which one is which but just check both, one will still have all your files and folders in it.
i suggest making a backup of your data before doing this incase something does go wrong, but ive had this happen many times in a domain enviorment and has worked for me everytime.

• If Firefox is set as the default browser, and any application attempts to open a new window, this fails and I get the error "Firefox is already running..."

Here is what I am running:
Microsoft Windows 7, Service Pack 1, Fully updated to 4/10/2012
Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
I am a user with administrator rights
UAS is disabled.
To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.
Test Cases:
All cases:
Firefox is selected as the default browser for windows 7
Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

• How to create an default profile for every user on one machine? Deployment of configurations?

On firefox 3.5.X i can copy an configured profile from an user-folder to the programm folder of firefox. \mozilla firefox\defaults\profiles.
After an new user log in to the machine the default profile will get the actual profile of the new user. With all bookmarks, configurations and so on.
But this doesn't work with the firefox 3.6.10? What changed? What will be the way i can get an default configuration for every user on one machine? I want to deploy the firefox with an default configuration in our enterprise? Why does the behaviour change?
What to do?
Thanks...

No - there are no missing data, because nothing will be copied. The profile - folder does not work.
There are the standard first start behavior.
There might be another trick? Hint? Todo?
Thanks.

• How do we change the default profile folder location?

I work for a university in Manhattan. We are trying to install Firefox 5 for our users but Firefox profiles are stored in the AppData folder which is a problem for us as it exceeds the user profile space.
We need a way to have Firefox create the profile elsewhere. Is anyone aware of how to do this?

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to offer a solution to our problem. Unfortunately, the Firefox profile information set under the administrative account does not transfer to the user accounts. Even though we created a Firefox profile set to open to a different location, when a user logs in the default profile, located in AppData, is created for them and they do not have access to the new one.
Are you aware of any way to set the profile of each user to automatically be created elsewhere? Thank you.

• Enabling Password controls in the Default Profile

After sharing with customer metalink note 114930.1, customer has the following questions:
1. Will Oracle suggest enabling password controls in the profile "Default" that is created during the installation without those controls enabled?
2. Oracle accounts (SYS, SYSTEM etc.) are created with the default profile associated with them (at that time there are no manually created profiles). Does Oracle permit assigning other profiles (created after installation) to those most critical accounts
Any help/direction is much appreciated

Hi,
1/ I don't know if Oracle would suggest that, but I would either enable password control if you have such a requirement, wherever you set it up, or don't touch anything if it's just to leave it disabled... I usually create specific profiles for the users and set up the limits according to the kind/type of users they are.
2/ Don't you have no test instance?
TEST> create profile p limit failed_login_attempts 5;
Profil cr
TEST> alter user sys profile p;
Utilisateur modifi
TEST> alter user system profile p;
Utilisateur modifi
TEST> select username, profile from dba_users where username in ('SYS','SYSTEM');

• How to change the theme in the default profile so new users get a different theme

How can I change the theme (background picture, etc) for the default profile, so that when new users log in and get a new profile created, they get a different theme than the one they currently receive?

Hi,
If you want to get a different theme for new users, based on my understanding, it’s not easy, we can load the specific theme for all user because we can control OS to load this specific theme file.
The default location of theme file is:
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
To configure OS load different theme for different user, I think this cannot be controlled by a registry key. It’s complicated to make OS choose different theme pack for different user, even more, the theme pack files are limited.
Here is some different but similar discussion about changing theme programmatically:
