Firefox crashes after Flash videos play with black screen

Whenever I'm playing a video with Flash, the screen is black although the sound is playing. Then Firefox is crashing.
I'm using the newest Firefox Version (28.0) on Mac OS 10.9.2 (newer Macbook Air) and the newest Flash version. I tried Safe mode and deactivated my plug-ins to make sure it's Flash.
I re-installed Flash and installed but it didn't help.
My Firefox crash reports say "hang | libsystem_kernel.dylib@0x15a3a" under signature and "EXC_BREAKPOINT / 0x00000002" under crash reason.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

    Hello everyone,
I have checked and tried some advices here on "discussions", about playing video on youtube for example on a MacBook Pro lion.  I have the latest Flash player but it still doesn't work.  Please help.  Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
if you are using a SAFARI you don't need to install a flash player, it comes insatlled already, you can check that on safari toolbar.
Help>Installed Plug-ins> and then check for shockwave flash player etc.
i have a early 2011 macbookpro and have never needed to install any flash payer unlike on windows.
that's if your are using safari.
    Thanks

  • Flash videos playing with audio echo on initial load.

I have been having issues playing Flash videos in the current version of Firefox (10.0) as well as the previous version (unknown) over the past few months.
When I open a page with a video it will begin playing with an echo as if two videos are playing at the same time with a slight delay on the second video causing an audio echo effect. So basically one video with echoing audio. The websites that I experience this the most are yahoo sports (happens practically every time) and gamespot (happens occasionally). If I refresh the page the echoing effect goes away.
    I am running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have updated video drivers on my ATI Radeon HD 5800 series.
My flash player / shockwave is 11,1,102,55 (updated) but I know I have experienced the same problem with previous versions.
I have the following plug-ins enabled:
    1. Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2.45
    2. Current version of Ad-Block
    3. Divx Plus Web Player 2.2.0.52
    4. Divx VOD Helper Plug-In 1.1.0.6
    5. Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-In 1.0.0.8
    6. Quicktime Plug-In 7.7.1 / 7.7.1.0
    7. Real Player 32 Bit Plug-Ins (4 total plug ins) 15.0.0.198
    8. Veetle Plug-Ins (3 total plug ins) 0.9.17.0
I have some others as well but I thought these were the only relevant ones.
Can anyone help me with my problem?

No crash reports have ben submitted as I was not able to get back to my desktop without re booting my PC as I was in full screen mode and Alt-Tab allowed me to tab through open applications they did not actually switch to the fore ground leaving me with the cideo paused at the point Firefox crashed.
I was able to see the firefox has crashed window whilst Alt-Tabbing but not able to switch to it.
I was watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05x1Jk4rT1A youtube video in full screen mode. when firefox crashed.
I have been experiencing this a lot on my old Ubuntu installation but put it down to possible conflicts with other installed software or installed plugins. In fact I got so frustrated with this that I switched to using Google Chrome which had no issues like this whatsoever.
However I thought I would give Firefox another go on a fresh installation to see if anything had improved.
I have read many posts and seen plenty of reports of this issue but sadly no solutions go back through lots of versions of Firefox.
I'm using the default open source video drivers.
I'm going to go back to using Google Chrome as it is far more sxtable so there is no urgency to resolving this issue but maybe you can find some solution to this seemingly common problem as I have a bit of a soft spot for Firefox and am kinda sad that this issue still exists after all this time.
I am happy to try things out if it is of any help

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • HT201066 trying to flip or rotate a video and then it disappears...it plays with  black screen

Trying to rotate or flip a video in quick time...it then plays with a black screen. Cant see anything

Well, running on a 2006 model.  I did not have a startup disc.  Initially, it booted up on original software in 2006.  Since then, I've upgraded to 10.6 via a box set.  And, since then I think I popped it up to lion.
All I have on a disc is snow leopard.  And, I can't get farther than the setup screen due to hard drive.  I'm taking to a apple authorized repair store right now.  We'll see what they tell me .  I'm just going to weigh the cost of repair vs. buying new.
Another bad, stupid thing is I had no means of backing up my stuff.  So, I might have lost things like music, vids, etc.  we'll see if they can recover.  If the cost is too much for repair I might just forget it and start over with a new system.  Just not sure at this point.

  • Firefox crashes after Flash download

Firefox will not stay open and crashes after downloading and installing latest Flash Player.  How to get rid of it so my Firefox works.  NOTE:  This is my wife's MacBook.  I know NOTHING about Macs.

Not sure why it's crashing Firefox, but what version of Flash Player is being downloaded and where from?
OS X 10.5.8 cannot use the latest version of FP (11.3.300.268). She needs version 10.3 which can be found at
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Choose OS version 10.5 in the step 1 dropdown, and Player 10.3 in the step 2 one.
Once downloaded, close all browsers before installing the FP plug-in.
Note that this is a browser plug-in not a standalone player.
When installed, it resides in Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plugins
It's possible the Firefox problem has another source, so it would help to know if the FP that's been downloaded so far came directly from the Adobe site or from a "missing plug-in" type pop-up message.

I have created HTML5 eLearning course. In this we need to show multiple videos on diffrent pages, so I have created VIDEO div on my base page & changing its source value as per diffrent pages video files.
Here I am facing very critical issue. The video is playing with black screen ie; without visual on screen. I have tried to solve it many way but hard luck.
Can anybody help me on this issue?
    Best Regards,
    Amit

    Hi,
The above URL gives a 404. But it seems you have moved the video to the homepage instead.
I'm able to reproduce the problem on Chrome.
However, I noticed that you are using video.js library for playing the video files. Have a look at the below thread for a possible solution posted by video.js community members that might help.

Go to get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install flash player.

My computer crashes repeatedly and I get the message pages are not responding do you want to stop, and/or shockwave is not responding do you want to stop. I have Windows XP Service Pack 3, I am having the same issues whether I use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox. My HP Pavilion Desktop has 504 MB of Ram and I am using high speed internet connection. Because it was crashing so much, I used the uninstall program for Flash player to uninstall Flash, I checked my registry and removed anything I saw that was Flash. I then uninstalled Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, then I reinstalled the most recent versions from their websites. I did the same for FlashPlayer and Shockwave Flash. I went to the Adobe website and had them check to see if it was working and it shows I have FlashPlayer 10.3.181.36. The page that shows  which version of flash player goes with Windows XP states that I should have 10.3.181.34 (This is what I thought I had before I updated, I was having the same problems). When I went into my computer to see what version I have, it shows 11.5.9.620 Activex and both Flash Player and Flash Player Object is listed as 10.3.181.34. My firewall for Windows is set to medium. I also am running Norton Internet Security. It takes anywhere from 3-6minutes for some of my games to load, and I have to refresh at least 3-4 times in order to play. When I do start to play it freezes frequently and I use escape to free it up. This has been going on for a month. I have no idea what to do. I am not very computer savy and I have been learning as I go.

  • Flash videos playing weirdly in firefox - malformed

I have had this problem for a long time, running through all versions of Firefox 3 (including the latest 3.5 preview releases).
I am updated to the latest version of Flash, and am running Windows XP (also fully up to date).
All flash videos play fine in IE8.
On some sites, while videos are playing, the picture flicks quickly between a normal picture and the effect shown in the screenshot - the usual image tiny, with weird blurred lines around it. This continues through the whole video, flicking very rapidly, and making the video effectively unwatchable. The effect remains even when the video is paused. I've attached screenshots below which should make the nature of the distortion clear.
I have experienced the problem most on Youtube (as I use this more than other video sites). The only other site I have noted the problem on is facebook video. Metacafe, Google Videos, Dailymotion, Vimeo and BBC iPlayer did not exhibit any distortion.
On Youtube, it is sometimes possible to play videos properly by switching to high quality, but usually it does the same thing, but flicking to a much larger picture, so it only seems to be blurry around the very edges.
I should also mention that embedded YouTube videos play fine on other pages.
My computer is pretty old - with an AMD Athlon Processor 996 MHz and 752 MB of RAM - but definitely has the capacity to play these videos, as it manages on Internet Explorer.
I created a thread on the firefox support forums before I came here - not much progress was made, but I should mention a few details of the only other reported case of this problem.
"Matt" seems to be experiencing the same problem on Firefox, also with a pretty old computer, but on Windows 2000, not XP. He reports the same problem on Opera also on his computer; I haven't tested this on my system.
Personally, I am at a complete loss with this problem - I have no idea how it can be caused, or fixed, and it's a major obstacle to casual web browsing. (I have to load Internet Explorer just to watch a youtube video!)
I really hope someone is able to shed some light on this issue; please ask if you would like any more details on my system.
    Thanks.
    (Ben)

    Hello all,
Yes to follow up Ben, I'm experiencing the exact same problems as him. I changed browser to Firefox 3.0.11 a couple of months ago and hence downloaded the Flash plugin for Firefox. I noticed the issue straight away in Youtube, but not on other sites. As I attributed the problem to Firefox, I then downloaded Opera 9.64 - but experienced the same problem. This led me to believe the issue was the Flash plugin, as both browsers are served by the same Adobe plugin for 'alternative browsers' to IE.
I then tried IE6 again in youtube and it didn't have the problem on standard view, however the problem was (and still is) occurring in full screen view. I'm nearly 100% sure this problem didn't occur before I downloaded the Flash plugin for Firefox / Opera. Regardless of whether that is the issue, the problem was definitely not happening on my system in IE6 earlier this year.
As Ben said, my computer is fairly old but well managed and up to date. OS is Windows 2000 SP4, system is AMD Athlon 900 (slot A), 512 Mb RAM, 16Mb Voodoo 3 graphics, m/board MSI MS-6191.
I've also tried removing the Flash plugin for Firefox/Opera and for IE6 and reinstalling it but had no joy there either. I would try an updated version of IE too but IE6 is the last version compatible with Win 2k.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.
    Matt

  • Firefox crashes when Flash Player is enabled..

I am facing this prob for the last few days...It says firefox encountered a prob and needs to close down....After a lot of findings I came to know that it was due to Adobe Flash Player ...when this plug-in is enabled and i visit video sites firefox crashes, but if I disable this plug-in firefox doesnt crash.....Please Help... AVG is not the problem - it is the Adobe plugin that triggers the crash.
    Evidence :
Flash works perfectly in Internet Explorer.
Firefox works when Flash not present or disabled.
Firefox crashes when Flash enabled and any site requiring the plug-in to be used is accessed.
Firefox fails to give any warning message or explanation.
Disabling any other plu-ins makes no difference.
AVG has been uninstalled and an alternative anti-virus put into use.
Problem started earlier in June when version 10.1r53 (10.1.53.64) of Adobe flash plug-in appeared. The problem did NOT exist until early June.
Uninstalling flash and reinstalling does not cure the problem.
    Affects Firefox 3.6.3 and 3.6.4
Operating System in use : Windows XP with service pack 3.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

    Forgot to add that earlier.

  • Firefox crashes after few seconds

I have WIN 7 64bit , since last update i.e 33.0 version, i am facing a problem that firefox crashes after few seconds . I troubleshoot the same as mentioned on your site but it doesn't work ........
    kindly help .......

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>
    [[Image:Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win]]
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Can you also try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that fixes your problem? You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window as follows:
#* Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options''.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
If the above did not solve it, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and then go back to your forum question and paste that into the "Post a Reply" box. Thank you for your help!
If you don't have enough time to go to that page and collect the crash reports:
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

It is very unlikely that you will find a camera that records video in the exact format that is compatible with the iPod.
You'll probably have to convert the video file manually.
Below are the acceptable video formats for the iPod.
Per the iPod Tech Specs, the video file must meet the following criteria:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
