  • Firefox will not open. I have used this for several years. It will not even open in safe mode. I have un-instaleld it..re-installed it and the same problem occurs. No error messages etc. ANy thoughts?

The program was working fine..now nothing. I have un-installed it several times...re-installed it several times. Will not even open in safe mode.

For some things you can try see [[Firefox will not start]].
I would start by seeing if a new profile works. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]
If the new profile does work, you can transfer selected data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. I would not copy preferences or extensions, instead re-install the extensions. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox Transferring data to a new profile - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]

  • New OS update = white screen of death.... can't even open in safe mode

my computer automatically did the OS update today (Jan 31). CRAP. Now I get to 30% on the update bar and it stops. goes to the white screen of death. same thing happened last time I updated (which is why i never wanted to upgrade again).
i WANT to boot in safe mode, but it won't let me. it goes right to the gray screen with the black apple and progress bar until it locks up as a white screen. seems like I've tried every shift+whatever combo, but noting forces it to stop. Any ideas on how to FORCE it to safe mode BEFORE the software tires to update?

I wasn't prepared to pay either so bit the bullet and used the code on the website.
The problem is caused by Apple changing the rules about drivers loaded on boot (kext or kernel extensions). If it finds an unsigned one (as the Trim enabler is) then it won't allow the driver to load, causing the system to hang at the "unavailable" sign.
I appreciate your reticence to use what seems like untested code – I too was wary, but my [albeit very basic] knowledge of programming led me to believe it would be ok. I can confirm it worked perfectly on my machine and allowed the machine to boot normally, but you will have to make the decision for yourself whether or not to try it. I've now uninstalled Trim enabler so that any future OS updates won't affect me.
Might you also be able to restore from a Time Machine backup?
    Hope that helps.

My problem is after updating to Yosemite does my mail client any longer. I can not even open the mail, and when I "forced closes" mail and try to open it again to go in the entered settings running the colored wheels around and allows me only to forcing close again? does anyone have a solution to the above problem?

You mean the default OS X mail app? Try reinstalling OS X Yosemite if that's the case.
If you are referring to 3rd party mail applications, that's a compatibility issue. Some apps don't work in the new operating system. You have to wait until the developer updates the app, or you have to revert back to Mavericks to continue using it.

  • Firefox crashes after 10 seconds; same in safe mode

Tried opening firefox, it crashed after 10 seconds regardless of which website I opened (this includes Firefox preferences). Same goes for safe mode. Tried updating to most recent version, uninstalling, and reinstalling and same thing occurs. Tried dragging preferences file to desktop to create a new one and nothing changed.

Uninstalled 10.0.1, installed 10.0.2 and tried to 'Launch Firefox' directly from install. Crash. Tried to open in safe mode. Crash.
Tried to retrieve crash report ID, Windows Search tells me nothing matches
    "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted" when I search it.
Otherwise I would have provided that information.

  • Firefox crashes on opening within seconds. started suddenly several weeks ago and i haven't been able to get on since. i reinstalled but updating didn't work. it won't even open in safe mode. HELP!

firefox crashes on opening within seconds. this started suddenly a few weeks ago and despite several daily attempts, i still can't load firefox application. it crashes immediately upon startup every time no matter what and crash reporter arrives. i have researched all the articles and followed their suggestions. i installed the newest version of firefox and still get the same results. i can't even open firefox in safe mode.

You do not want to remove the program directory with a Mac because Firefox is most likely installed in the system Applications directory which is where the system applications are stored.
Have you tried removing the Firefox plist file from your user library? I have Mac OS 10.6.8 as well, and that file is at /Users/<user name>/Library/Preferences. Close Firefox and remove that file, then start Firefox again.

  • I haven't been able to get on firefox for weeks! it crashes on opening within seconds. i reinstalled hoping that it needed to be updated but that didn't work. it won't even open in safe mode. i am desperate...

all of a sudden a few weeks ago i cannot get on firefox. it crashes immediately upon startup every time no matter what and crash reporter arrives. i have researched all the articles and followed their suggestions. i installed the newest version of firefox and still get the same results. i can't even open firefox in safe mode. i dont' know what else to try and really need my favorite browser back and all my bookmarks and passwords...

since i exhausted every angle throughout january and early february, i really can't pinpoint what made the difference today but... IT'S WORKING NOW! firefox had been deleted from my computer for a few weeks now so with renewed determination i searched every single folder on my entire hard drive and found 3 random files with mozilla or part of the word mozilla in them and deleted them. i shut down the computer and restarted it a few hours later. i downloaded firefox 10 (even higher version than the one i was updating to a month ago) from google chrome and installed it. so thank you for your input and effort to help!

  • Firefox crashes won't even open just goes to crash report

I'm using internet explorer as I can't even open firefox. Just updated to 6.0.2 yesterday was working fine last night this morning this all I get is the Mozilla Crash Reporter.
If I have to uninstall and reinstall I really want to know how to save my bookmarks this is most important.
I followed the steps in troubleshooting listed below. The instructions in Help for Firefox Crashes are not applicable because I can't open firefox at all to run in Safe Mode or anything else

I was having this problem also. I tried doing a System Restore and that did not do the trick. I also tried going into Safe Mode and couldn't resolve the problem. Finally I did reinstall Firefox (using Internet Explorer, which I only keep around in case I encounter problems such as this), and voila! Finally I could get back into Firefox, and all of my bookmarks and saved passwords were still there.
I hope this will be encouraging to others who have been experiencing the same problem.

  • Firefox crashes before it can start up, can't even get to safe mode.

    Hello,
Firefox automatically downloaded and installed an update this morning and now it won't start at all. I've tried starting in safe mode (shift-clicking to start), but I can't even get through there. It's just crash after crash after crash and I'm quickly losing patience.

After doing more digging, I found that updating my version of RoboForm was the fix. At least so far... we'll see how long it lasts!
If you're running RoboForm and can't get in, try to update RoboForm from IE, then try again.

Can you please try the following?
#On the keyboard, press [Windows] [[Image:Windows key]] + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, type '''%APPDATA%''' and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.

  • Firefox crashes before it even opens.

Crash every time. Even in safe mode. Please help!!

Did you try Firefox 10 ?
Something that may be involved in some of your crashes is Google Desktop. Apparently that is no longer supported by Google. You could try disabling that to see if it helps. Note however if you uninstall it that downloads of Google Desktop are no longer available from Google, so unless you have the install files you may not be able to reinstate it. See http://googledesktop.blogspot.com/
    Update.<br/> (for detail see also [/forums/contributors/708122?last=45060&page=2#post-45059] )
    Startup crashes in Firefox 10
In fact Firefox 10 is itself having major problems with some crashes, to the extent that its full release as an automatic upgrade has been suspended. Those crashes include some of the crash signatures that you are noticing.
People are working on this, users with such crashes may even get emails asking about the problem from the developers who are working on the fix, if so please try to respond, you may have the vital clue needed to fix this.

  • In real trouble, can not even do a safe start.  Help!!!

    Aloha:
My desktop G4 using OS 10.3.9 has been crashing at a great rate as I attempt to do and burn an iMovie. It just now crashed again as it was burning a iMovie using iDVD.
However, this time I could not re-start it. I tried a safe start to no avail. I then tried a regular start and after a long wait I got a text screen showing a slew of "USB set up errors" then I got "Welcome to open firmware" showing time and date. Followed by the insructions, "Type mac-boot to continue or shut-down to stop". I chose to continue. I got
    Default Catch
    code = 300 at %SPRO: 3fc45cb0 %SPRI:00001010
At this point I am in another text program that I can not do anything with. If I type mac-boot it just shuts down again. Frustrating.
Sounds scary to me - what say you.
    I am using iLife 06.
I hope there is help out there, I sure feel lost without my computer,
    Thanks.

you may want to be careful running your computer with the side door down for long periods. the internal airflow of the computer can be jeopardized by doing so and although you may think the processors are getting overtly hot from processing you may create more work for the fans.
processors and HD's can run at temps of over 130 degrees without problems.
sure they feel hot as heck but they are operating in proper parameters.
My experience with DVDR bruner internal I discovered works best in the top optical bay as the Fan that blows air over the drives is positioned best for the top optical drive bay. I used a Pioneer DVDR in the lower drive bay and had countless drive issues. when moved it to the top optical bay it has been running pretty much flawlessly since.
Having a Fan blow cool air is good idea around the Mac. the MDD front under the lower handle has vents that should stay unblocked if you want proper air intake for the computer. I read of people mounting mini fans inside the front lowere HD bay to help pull in room air as the Main system fan may not be doing a proper job.
Sometimes a PCI Slot cooler can also help cool, the upper part of the computer insides.

  • Firefox used to work on my windows 8 machine, now it does not, even starting in safe mode and after un/reinstalling. message "firefox has stopped working".

Firefox used to work fine, then a few days ago it just stopped. When I try to start it, it comes up with a message that "firefox has stopped working". That message comes up over the box that asks if I want to start in safe mode or reset firefox. when i try to close or cancel that message so I can try starting in safe mode, both sets of messages go away.
if I try to start in safe mode using the shift key, the same thing occurs. The same thing occurred after I uninstalled and reinstalled.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Firefox won't open no error message, tried everything in the help article nothing works. Won't even open in safe mode. help!

When I click on the firefox icon (windows 7) nothing happens. not even in safe mode. Nothing in the help article works. I've tried uninstalling twice.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:
