Firefox crashes/closes on websites with flash
This started yesterday when I was prompted to download and install the 3.6.7 update for Firefox. After restarting the browser, I get a message that it was not installed correctly, and then it closes without warning. It does not give the usual message that there is a problem and Firefox needs to close.
After experimenting, I've noticed that this only seems to happen when trying to load websites that include Flash content. Gmail and Youtube cause it to crash immediately. Other websites, like Facebook and certain forums will load initially, but will crash on certain pages, where there is probably a flash video or other application.
I tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode, but I still get these crashes. When I go to about:crashes, I get no reports of the recent crashes.
I still can't update Firefox to latest version, so I still have 3.6.6. Every time I try, the installation fails. I do have the latest version of Flash.
I believe I've tried everything suggested in the Knowledgebase, so if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Open up computer case, unplug and take out the processor fan cooler and wipe out all the dust, speccially in the heatsink, with a soft little brush and compressed air spray (also check power supply fan). I discovered this solution after weeks of trying all software related recommended steps and nothing worked, adobe flash player was still crashing in firefox, chrome and opera even after completely uninstalling flash and installing latest version 10.2.152.26 of the plugin. I realized this was the problem when pc started to crash unexepectedly when not playing flash videos. So, EUREKA, that did the trick for me. Hope it does for you.

Firefox closes on websites with Flash content
I have been experiencing this problem after the last couple of updates. I'm currently running 3.6.6. On nearly every site that runs Adobe Flash content, the content loads to the point that I know it will work, but Firefox stops loading the content, freezes, and then closes with no error messages. I reopen it and it asks for a session restore, but only about half of the time. The other half, it restores the tabs to about 10 seconds before the crash. I would open Speedtest.net, for example, it would load the player to when the blue line appears in the bottom, and then the loading wheel in the tab would freeze. After that, it closes. It has happened every time I opened that website. It would happen on other site with flash games as well.
I have reinstalled Adobe Flash by uninstalling and then reinstalling. I have also manually upgraded Firefox again. None of these have fixed the problem.Open up computer case, unplug and take out the processor fan cooler and wipe out all the dust, speccially in the heatsink, with a soft little brush and compressed air spray (also check power supply fan). '''Hi,

''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/934607]''Can you open up your Real Player and tell me what version you have? I think Real Player 15.0.6 is supposed to fix this problem. There was a conflict between Real Player and Flash this whole summer that broke Flash videos. Real Player released a update that might help in your case.
If that doesn't help, I think a addon might be to blame here. So do this:
<br> '''Firefox button <img src=https://support.mozilla.org/media/uploads/images/2012-03-27-09-22-48-1204f1.png> > Help > Troubleshooting Information'''
<br> (or '''Tools > Help > Troubleshooting Information''')
Then click the "Copy all to clipboard" button then paste it here. It will tell us what addons you have installed and I can see which one might be causing problems. -
Websites with flash content are causing tremendous CPU usage!!
Greetings!
I finally installed the long-awaited version 4 of firefox, and I am really disappointed. In addition to slight sluggishness now and again, it turns out that websites with Flash content (even those sites with a little flash advertising banner) are causing my CPU usage to really go up.
It's slowing down my machine, making my CPU fans spin loudly, and making for a disappointing web browsing experience.
I have disabled all add-ons, and done the usual. Even tried installing Chrome for the first time ever!
The problem is definitely Flash + Firefox 4.
I have created a brand new profile, but no dice. Wondering if anyone else experiences a high CPU load on pages with flash...Adobe Flash Player has also been crashing periodically on 2 of my computers, I'm still running XP, one of them a powerful HTPC, Dell Optiplex 755 SFF over a new Cable Internet Connection. Buffering, Lagging, crashing when streaming video for Catchup TV (Freeview) via Firefox Adobe Flash Player Add-On, does not happen on Youtube though. Lagging & Crashing does NOT occur AT ALL in Google Chrome, but I hate that browser.
Have tried the usual disabling Flash Hardware Acceleration + Protected Mode, setting storage to Unlimited, disabling FF Ad Blockers + Hardware Acceleration, cleaning Caches, updating program versions, everything bar reinstalling programs. It's not happening in Chrome, why in Firefox? -
Win8.1/Chrome 64bit: NPAPI Flash Player crashes on every page with Flash content
Hi,
Chrome 64bit (beta+) crashes on Win8.1 64bit, if I use the NPAPI Flash Player (v15 beta or v14 stable) and open a website with Flash content.
More details here:
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=402262Turning off NPAPI in Chrome 64-bit will be a very bad move. I'm using a Windows 7 Setup, with a Core2Quad 65 nm CPU and a pathetic Geforce GT 8500 GPU that is basically worthless. PPAPI flash betas are available as a standalone now at this point, but I have done lots of side by side comparisons, and the PPAPI plugin is absolute garbage compared to the far superior Netscape architecture based plugin. I'm not the only one saying that. I have found loads of forums, and instruction videos online to fix Chrome video playback on youtube for instance. I have to install "Magic Actions for Youtube" addon for chrome so that I can disable HTML5. then I have to go into the plugins menu on chrome and disable pepper flash. I keep the 64 bit flash betas regularly updated this way, and I am getting peak performance. Once in a blue moon it will crash, but I think that is Google's fault. HTML5 should not be the default option in youtube. Compared to Flash, it does not have great GPU acceleration ability, and HTML5 in 64-bit doesn't even perform superior to 32 bit web browsers, where as 64 bit flash is a leap forward, as long as it's the NPAPI version, that is. Problems I have with the HTML5 and also Pepperflash are very similar. The audio is out of sync with video, and the cpu is maxed out from memory leaking. I'm skipping frames and seeing glitches left and right. The seek functions in pepperflash never work right on youtube, you have to click an inch before wherever you want the video to play. On and on. Pepper flash has audio crackle. You can't get rid of the crackle from pepper flash or HTML 5. Yet, with NPAPI 64 bit flash beta in 64 bit chrome canary it plays PERFECTLY. once in a while I have it crash, which i think is the fault of the fact that I have to use an add on to force off HTML5. Why would I want html5, when flash NPAPI 64 bit produces superior picture quality on all quality settings. It's better in every conceivable way. Shame on Google for not putting more care into 64-bit flash on 64-bit Chrome. It couldn't possibly be a more important deal! You can tell pepperflash and HTML 5.0 are an afterthought. It's only youtube playback quality. why would that matter to google? OMG...
While I'm at it, I have one other issue that blows my mind. Adding command line flags in Chrome 64-bit (Canary) in Windows. Why do we have to add them through a shortcut in the "target" line? The target line runs out of space after 3 or 4 commands! I wish they would update Chrome Canary to allow for unlimited command lines to be added. It should be an option to add Command Lines on the About:Flags screen. I am so disappointed in these two glaring issues. It keeps me up at night. -
Sollution to Firefox 3.6.8 issues with Flash 10.1.53.64 !!
Had the well known problem after upgrading to 3.6.8.
Found that many people had the same problem also.
After investigating A LOT about this one i've found that if you set, in about:config, the parameter " dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll " to FALSE it solves the problem !!
So...
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll == falseWhile I have not contacted Adobe, I am sure the answer will be don't use Firefox 3.6.8. ( The compliment to the answer you gave. It not Firefox that has the problem but Adobe.)
Since the only solution that I have seen is to disable the key reason to use Firefox 3.6.8 (crash protection) then the problem would appear to be in how Firefox as done the crash protection. -

Firefox hangs on all sites with flash content. If I disable the flash plugin there is no hanging but obviously no flash content either. The key here will be to determine what is different between the machines that work and those that hang. Of all the systems that fail, they are all Windows 7 32bit?
Yep, this issue only happens on Windows 7 32-bit machines, currently 6.
Do you have any 32bit systems that don't fail?
Yep, the most Windows 7 32-bit machines wont fail.
What about hardware, are there similarities here? Attached devices/drivers? Software that is running at the time?
These machines are all from DELL. They all have normal hardware, nothing special. Other machines from same type does not affected. Software: All have standard software distributed via Software-distribution (GPO). Only some PCs have special software, but it is not running. No special drives, too.
Maybe try booting Windows in safe mode to see if it still hangs?
Good idea, indeed - I will try this.
We're definitely interested in what's going on. I'll ask our security and Mozilla folks to see if they have additional clues.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Safe mode: Flash is working! (without disabled Protected Mode!)
I've set msconfig now to: Custom system start and deselected the boxes to load systemservices and system start elements.
So, now windows does a non-safe mode boot but no service or element was loaded except the drivers (right?). Flash is not working with this config!
So, whats the difference between safe mode and normal boot with minimal configuration (see attached picture).
Only drivers will be loaded, right? If so, I can exclude the network and graphics driver as source: graphics driver are updated right now and network was working in safe-mode.
Any new ideas?

How do I open these types of websites on my IPod Touch Software version 3.0?
This is a huge oversight if it cannot be done and a Flash Player App is not available for download.
Thanks for any response. Derrell BrownThis is a huge oversight if it cannot be done
Flash is a proprietary technology owned and controlled by Adobe. It's nothing to do with Apple. Flash is also slow, buggy and RAM hungry. You can't really expect a technology that even runs poorly on relatively high-specced computers to run that well on a low-powered handheld device.
Web-sites are generally moving away from proprietary technologies like Flash in favour of open-source technologies such as Javascript, AJAX and HTML5 - all of which work on the iPod touch, and can reproduce many of the Flash-type effects you see on Flash web-sites.
Over time, I'm sure Flash will be used less and less as more and more people access the web 'on-the-go' from handheld devices, and open-standards become the norm. -
Websites with Flash Not Loading
My browser is IE7, after installing Macromedia Flash Player I

Any assistance as to solutions or settings I can try,/change
would be appreciated.

Simon WardYou're welcome.
I'll be backing up to a 1TB ext. drive, so I'm going to set up Time Machine and maintain regular backups.
Time Machine is great for recovering specific files/folders. I find a clone backup much more effective for going back to a previous HD state. I think both are essential. The latter is created with SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner.
I have Time Machine and a bootable backup on a 750 MB HD. One partition matches the size of my iMac HD (297 mb); the rest if for Time Machine. Works well together. I create a bootable clone every few weeks or so, or just prior to a significant update to the OS, such as an incremental update, eg 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, or any Apple update requiring a "restart". This way, if something goes awry I simply can start-up from the clone and copy it back in a few minutes to the HD (only those files that have changed in the update are copied). -
Firefox CLOSES (no crash message) when websites with streaming video are loaded.
Before it is suggested, I have fully updated the browser, and updating flash more times than I can count. In addition, this has been going on through many firefox updates, so it is not limited to just the recent update.
I run Firefox on OSX Tiger, and for about a year now firefox has about a 50% chance of randomly closing whenever I view a website that has streaming video content. Some examples are ESPN, Hulu, MLB.tv and YouTube.
It is NOT an official crash though. No crash reports are registered, no error messages are given, Firefox simply closes completely with not so much as a "terminal error" pop-up. I usually have to watch content from sites that use steaming content on Safari just because Firefox is so unstable on my system when loading ANY video content.
This issue is NOT limited to flash, as Firefox will do the same thing with non-flash video with pretty much the same regularity.
PLEASE don't just tell me to update again, I've done that countless times for each and every update of Firefox in the last year. It has NEVER worked. Although I'm 95% sure that flash is installed fine, because I never have any problems with it on Safari.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Flash Player 11 constantly crashing on every Website with Flashcontent...
Hi,
I am having problems with the latest Update of Adobe Flash Player to release 11. I am on a Mac(10.6.8) running the 64bit kernel. At the moment I installed Flash Player 11, every Website with Flashcontent is crashing. This also happens in Chrome, not only Safari or Firefox. I did everything Adobe provides as possible solutions. Do an uninstall with the uninstaller, then install fresh. I had a look in both of the Internet Plugins folder to make sure everything got removed correctly. But the new install won't work.
What works is uninstalling Flash Player 11 and installing Flash Player 10.3 again. Everything works like a charm then. Well... except in Chrome of course.
Just as a last bit of information: I never had any beta or alpha versions of the player installed.
Can anyone please help me? Does anyone else encounter this problem?

Chrome, Firefox, IE all crash when leaving page with flash
Hi,
I am running XP with SP 2 on a Intel Core Duo Dell machine. These are coporate machines. I've had two in the past two weeks and both are giving me the same error.
After installing the latest flash player, all browsers are able to load a flash page. However, when leaving that page for another, all browsers stop responding. They don't crash, they merely freeze.
Chrome indicates that the flash plugin has crashed and would I like to terminate it. The others simply stall.
I've uninstalled, re-installed, rebooted.. etc.
Interestingly enough, a fellow coworker who appears to have the same machine as I, does not have this problem.
Any ideas on how to debug this ?
Thanks
Ji seem to have the same problem too....
chrome tells me that Shockwave plugin has become unresponse then says its crashed....
Firefox becomes unresponsive (i've left it in that state for quite a while..result nothing)
i uninstall flash using the uninstaller provided from adobe (or from add and remove programs, tried both options) and browsers run perfectly fine... of course access to flash content lost since i need the plugin...!
I'm running Vista Home Edition SP2
antivirus - AVG Free
particular websites that i use (all of them with flash content crash!!!) and that crash EVERY time - youtube, bbc.co.uk, facebook, gmail, f1-live.com, all sites with flash crash!!
i've tried everything i could find on firefox forums, chrome forums, and here... nothing works... now i'm gonna revert to flash 8 and try... hopefully adobe will respond to this problem... its not jus one or two who are facing this problem...!! -
Firefox frequently hangs when loading websites with Flash video.
Firefox frequently completely freezes when viewing Flash video and the only way to release it is to manually kill the plugin-container process.
This have been verified with several Firefox versions, upto and including 3.6.10 and upto the lastest Flash release on systems running Windows 7 64-bit. This have been tested on multiple installations, different systems and on clean installations. However only tested on 64-bit HP systems so far.
Running Firefox with "Run as Administrator" enabled or with compatibility mode set to "Windows XP SP2" seems to solve the problem, but that solution is not good considering the security and performance problems following with that.I have done some more testing and the problem seems to have been found:
Windows 7 64-bit with Firefox and Flash works fine until HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite is installed. That combination makes Flash video playback hang frequently. Uninstallation of HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite fixes the problem.
Flash video playback works fine with Windows 7 64-bit and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite using the browsers Internet Explorer and Chrome instead of Firefox.
At the moment I can not tell if the error is with Firefox, Flash or HP Protect Tools.
I am using the latest versions of Firefox, Flash and HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite at the time of writing, including latest Windows security patches.
HP ProtectTools Security Manager Suite installation file name used for this is sp48447.exe. -
For several weeks, I've found that some sites with Flash will
crash OmniWeb, Safari, and Camino. The applications don't quit, but
they do freeze with the spinning pinwheel. I have cleared the
caches and history for each with no change.
The first site that I noticed this on was
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index,
but I've since found the same behavior on other sites.
The problem is the same on two different computers: 1.
PowerMac G4 dual 450 MHz, 1GB of RAM, plenty of disk space, running
10.4.11. 2. Mac Pro dual 2.8 Gz, 2 GB of RAM, plenty of disk space,
running 10.5.2, fresh install.
I've attached a sample of what was happening in OmniWeb at
the time of crash, taken using Activity Monitor.Upon further investigation, it appears to be a JavaScript
calling Flash Player that's the problem. In OmniWeb, using
site-specific preferences, I was able to turn off JavaScript for
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index.
Loading the site no longer crashes OW; if I turn off JavaScript in
Safari, it also loads the site.
I have run into other sites that cause the same problem,
however, so this solution will continue to be hit or miss.
I don't know whether there is anything that Adobe can do to
solve this problem, but some investigation would be helpful.
Thanks.
