If the malware scanners didn't catch it then try this steps:
Try to use MSConfig and disable that file to prevent it from getting started.
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to locate and remove the file either manually or with a malware scanner.
You will have to search the Windows registry (Ctrl+F) for references to that file and export and remove involved keys to avoid startup issues with missing files or alternatively use a registry cleaner like CCleaner.
If you are not comfortable with editing the registry then it is best to skip this step.

  • I am asked to select an app each time I attempt to open a linked file via a website. How do I tell firefox to use the same app every time?

I have a website; www.designed4submariners.com. On several pages, I have created links to images which are located in a upload file folder. Each time I click on one of those links on the active website (using Firefox as browser), a dialog box appears asking me: What should Firefox do with this file? Beneath the question is a pull down menu which has "TextEdit (defualt)" selected next to a radio button. The image file will open in a browser window when I select Firefox from that pull down menu. I can not tell Firefox to open all similar files using Firefox. How can I resolve this issue as I must go through the same process each time I attempt to open one of those links.

Your response identifies the issue exactly! My website is hosted by GoDaddy. I have forwarded your linked information to their tech department. The URL below my signature is the site having the problem I've outlined when attempting to access linked images.

  • Firefox 3.6 is running in safe mode . How do i change this.

I want to delete Firefox 3.6 and try Firefox 4 beta. Firefox 3.6 is running in safe mode and i am unable to delete i. I do not want to have both Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4 beta on my computer at the same time.

So irritating when the window is mis-positioned. Two suggestions:
    '''-- New window method --'''
    (1) With the Firefox icon active, press Alt+Spacebar and then the letter x to maximize. The Firefox window should appear full screen.
    (2) Copy the following line of script code to the clipboard:
    <br>newwin=window.open(window.location.href);newwin.moveTo(0,0);
    (3) Press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the web console.
    (4) Press Ctrl+v to paste the line of code then press Enter to run it. A new copy of the same page should open in a window positioned at the top left of the screen.
    (5) Switch back to the maximized window and close it. Firefox should remember the new window's position.
    '''-- Rename file method --'''
Note: this will reset all your toolbars to their default settings as well as clearing the last window position.
    (1) With the Firefox icon active, press Alt+Spacebar and then the letter x to maximize. The Firefox window should appear full screen.
    (2) Open your personal settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
    (3) Switch back to Firefox and exit the program (e.g., Firefox > Exit or File > Exit)
    (4) Wait a few moments for Firefox to finish updating files in your settings folder, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something else, like localstore-bad.rdf or localstore.old.
    (5) You're done here. You can close this window and restart Firefox.

  • Mozilla keeps crashing and i can only open it in safe mode. How do I fix this?

I tried un-checking use hardware acceleration and tried to open but all it said was that i have to close mozilla because there is already a version running but hadnt even clicked on mozilla yet so i checked the box again and the crash report came back. I'm writing this in safe mode.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Firefox need long time for start, downloads everytime at starting, reset useles, safe mode works

when starting the firefox.exe or the link, firefox need way too long till opening the window, everytime it starts it starts and cancel a download in download manager,
in safe mode it starts normal, with addons disabled it starts normal, disable the addons else do not work reset dont work either

You said that there was no problem in safe mode? Try this; disable
'''ALL of your add-ons''' and '''ALL your plug-ins'''. See if there is a problem.
If not, pick a few (two or three) items to enable. Keep going like this
until you have the problem again.

  • When I open Firefox, my computer goes into safe mode. How do I fix this problem?

When I open Firefox to do some browsing, my computer goes into safe mode. When I close Firefox browser, then it goes back to normal. I know there has to be a simple fix, but I have not found it.

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.
You can check that in the "Compatibility" tab in the Properties via the right-click context menu of the Firefox desktop shortcut.<br />
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Firefox not responding when any button is clicked - including "options" and others needed to start it up in safe mode. How can I fix this?

I already tried re-installing but - alas - to no avail. As I stated in my questioon already, Firefox (latest version) doesn't react to anything I click, hence why I am not even able to do the troubleshooting at all nor start the browser in safe mode. In addition to this, no websites are being displayed and all I am able to see is a blank page - no matter which website I actually want to view.
Other browsers work totally fine but due to certain programs, Firefox is necessary and other browsers like Chrome are not an option.

  • I can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode. How can I fix this?

I updated to the latest version of Ff V19 is it?
I am on WinXP with AVG (8.5.455) antivirus. Both are fully uptodate.
In AVG I have disabled "Link Scanner" and "Resident Shield" in case these were interfeering with Ff.
Google Chrome is behaving the same - crash report dialog appears immediatly on launch (and on PC start up).

Thank you madperson for taking the time to answer my question.
I found two Toolbars; Searchqu and ALOT, and removed them both.
I suspect Searchqu was the culprit because I saw "datamngr" flash by as the uninstaller was working away.
Thanks heaps, I i hope someone finds my answer useful as well.

  • Properties window won't open - can't make links on website now - how can I fix?

Starting today when I try to open the Properties window to make a link the window won't appear and open...the Properties is checked as if it is open, but it doesn't appear on the screen so I can make a link on my website

Try Window > Workspace Layout > Reset and see if that brings it back.

I downloaded 4.0 today. I was askled to reboot. I did this. Unable to open 4.0 browswer. Tried reboot several times. Same eroor message each time i tried to open browser. I tried to remove program, and i get the same error message asking to reboot. i tried to download 3.6 to go back to whatI had, and i get the same error message.

I downgraded the Time Capsule to 7.6.1
I've had similar issues using a 4th Gen running 7.6.3 with OS 10.6.8, but have stuck with it because the performance with 7.6.1 was actually worse in my situation. Your own setup may well perform differently, but you might want to monitor your TC’s behavior closely for at least a while. Or just downgrade to 7.5.2, as LaPastenague suggested. In my case, downgrading to 7.6.1 — I have a recent 4th Gen, which won’t accept any earlier basebinary file — caused serious disk spin issues, a not uncommon problem to judge from the many complaints about it appearing on this list.
Apple: improve your regression testing, please!
My question: Does anyone have a sense, based perhaps on Apple‘s past practice, of whether it is at all likely that there will be future firmware upgrades for pre-802.11ac TCs — or should anyone currently using these legacy devices just abandon all hope at this point?

  • Firefox stops loading pages after trying to open a heavy page

firefox stops loading pages after trying to open a page with alot of pictures etc, with big size. it just keeps on loading pages with no result.
my internet is fairly low speed so i take my time but this happened each time i tried to open such sites.
even when i close that '''tab''' and try to open just '''google.com''' , it wont load.
its solved after closing and opening firefox again . but happens again if i try to open the same heavy site

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Firefox slow wireless but fast wired. No issues running IE wireless. Tried system restore, fact. reset, turned off accl, disabled addons, run in safe mode.....

So i have an HP e118dx running on windows 8.1 with very little software on it. Currently running FF 37.0.1 and in wireless mode it always hangs up, runs slow, or times out. When plugged in it runs just fine. Can get on net using IE via wireless and no issues. So it seems to be something specific to FF on the wireless side. Thought it might have been my wireless card but running IE just fine seems to rule that out.
Have already tried system restore a few times, factory reset, turn off hardware accel., run in safe mode(FF), disabled add ons and nothing seems to help. If i have tabs open while wired, then go wireless and refresh the pages or browse on the already open pages i tend to get a couple minutes of trouble free experience before it slows to a halt again.
To recap....FF on wireless=slow and wired=fast. No difference when using IE wireless---always fast.

Not sure what you mean by # of connections being made. Not sure if that means tabs open, or folks using the actual wireless network. A while back when i was going through this with the isp i got a crash coarse on how to go into the modem and check a bunch of different stuff, as well as reset things. When looking in there only 1 or 2 computers showed on the network. The network is password protected......i guess protected only to the extent that a pswrd can. Not certain if someone nefariously connected somehow.....didn't show up when looking for users on the network though.
The first bullet point......Not sure how to do any of that so i'd say no.
Second bullet point......Yes, did lots of clearing temp files, caches, history, etc. along with systems restores and factory resets. although not exactly sure what you mean by dns cache. Might have done this but don't recall specifically seeing that.
Third bullet point.....It doesn't make any difference on this end whether its on no proxy, auto proxy, manual proxy. While i have no idea what all this stuff does/affects performance i played with it on all different settings and nothing changed here. Put it back to no proxy.
The thing is even when my wireless FF is acting up other devices in the home can be on the wireless with no issues. Think the other devices are using Chrome and some phone wifi hookup. Keep in mind if i switch to IE on the same device with FF windows open the IE will run just fine. At any given time there should only be 1-4 devices on the network so i'm guessing that shouldn't overload anything. Besides none of the other devices ever seem to come into this issue.
There always seems to be some issue that pops up after updates. Can't ever just leave working things alone.

  • Firefox 3.6.10 crashes each time I try to open a PDF file? Any suggestions?

Each time I try to open a PDF file from any website, Firefox (3.6.10) crashes. No error messages--just closes abruptly. For add-ons, I've got Personas 1.6.1, United States English Dictionary 1.0.0, and WOT. I've got the Adobe Reader 9 and Foxit 3.3.1.0518. The crashes of Firefox occur with both PDF readers. I did go through the posted solutions for PFD related crashes in the FAQ section but those steps did not resolve the problem.

Does that only happen if you open the PDF files in the browser or also if you open the PDF files in the standalone program by disabling the plugin?

  • Just updated to Mac OS 10.7.3 and each time I attempt to open Firefox I receive the message; "Firefox quit unexpectedly". Can't use FF!

Just updated to Mac OS 10.7.3 and each time I attempt to open Firefox I receive the message; "Firefox quit unexpectedly". Can't use FF! Repeated attempts to open FF result in the same message.
Downloaded FF again and the same message occurs.
Safari, of course, works but that is not my choice.

    Hey b00m3r,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [[Firefox crashes]] Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_firefox-crashes-when-i-start-it this article] as well.
    Hopefully this helps!
