I have had the same problem with firefox on facebook. It has happened for the last couple weeks. I can receive gifts under requests and every game I try crashes. I can usually read my homepage. this is getting really bad. I have cleared caches,downloaded what I am told to download to update, and cleared history and cookies and still happens , and have been told to get rid of firefox. what is the problem? and when I sent reports , nothing. and sent emails to all the games and told them and asked for help and never get responses. should I through the computer out the window, or delete you? This is the latest version. I used the uninstaller tool and did a fresh reinstall. I did not delete all the directories from the old setting, so that might be next, but I feel like I am grasping at straws here.
The firefox installation is also the latest version. I am on Windows 7 x64. Dual Xeons.
I do notice the flash control panel says (32 bit), which seems odd.
I read where it said to try turning off hardware acceleration, but I do not have such a setting in my CP, and I cannot get the flash player to work long enough to use the old settings panel.
Can someone give me some steps to isolate the problem?

OK, now. I have not used facebook on firefox in a few days, and I have not seen the flash crashes.
In fact, no firefox crashes. But I now have 20 in the last 5 minutes.
Not flash, however.
Could be something else, or this could be all related.
Flash is working on my fitbit dashboard, so that's just *not* the problem. Or not at the moment.

I have the latest plugins and firefox but it still says 'adobe flash plugin has crashed' How do i fix this?

Every time I go on YouTube, it comes up with: 'adobe flash plugin has crashed'. I have tried refreshing and restarting my laptop, I have also got all the latest flash and Firefox, but it still won't work.

I'd start with disabling Hardware Acceleration, as described in the video troubleshooting guide below:
Video playback issues
If that solves the problem, make sure that your graphics drivers are current.
If it *still* happens with current drivers, please give us detailed information on the graphics card and driver, so that we can disable hardware acceleration on this configuration and start a conversation with the appropriate vendor.
The best way to get this information is to do the following (on Windows):
Open a command prompt
Type: dxdiag
Hit Enter
This should launch the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
Click Save All Information (or whatever that save button says).
Paste the contents into a reply here, or you can click Use Advanced Editor in the upper right of the reply window, and then attach the file using the link at the bottom right of the reply window.

I keep getting "Adobe Flash Player has stopped potentially unsafe" but can't click Settings

Every time I open a blank tab in IE8, I get a message:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation. The following local application on your computer or network about:blank is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location: s.nsdsvc.com. To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings. You must restart the application after changing your settings.
I have tried clicking the Settings button, but that just closes the message box. I have added both about:blank and s.nsdsvc.com to my trusted sites. I tried creating an html file with nothing in it and setting that as my home, but I am still getting the stupid message.
This is driving me to distraction. How can I fix it?
p.s. If this is already posted and answered, I apologize. I searched for it but it appears that the forum search is still broken.

There is no swf in a blank page, so I don't know how to do what you suggested.
However, I tried something else that seems to have worked. I took EVERYTHING out of my list of trusted sites. I know it doesn't make sense, but I'm not getting those messages now.

Yeah, Firefox and Flash Player isn't a super stable combination on Windows 8.1 at the moment. We're collaborating closely with Mozilla to improve that, but that effort is going to happen over several months.
In the meantime, you might want to take a look at the other options. Microsoft invested a lot of time and effort into making the Flash experience on Win8.1 really good in IE, as did Google with Chrome.

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

Flash Player Constantly Crashing w/ FireFox?!

I've been having a problem playing media on my computer. Online, instead of playing the music or video (like on youtube or something), it would freeze up firefox for a few minutes then say that my flash player has crashed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, even installing an older version, but nothing works. The strangest part is, I can't even play music or video files that are saved on my computer! I'm thinking it's connected, though I have no idea why. Please, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd really appreciate the help.

I have had the same problem for some time. Not only with Firefox, but with Internet Explorer (7 and 8) and Google Chrome. I am running a Windows 7 Home edition (version 6.1 build 7600) 64 bit O/S, and have read through multiple forums where the web browser is being criticised (unfairly?), and have tried all solutions offered there and here. I have uninstalled and re-installed the adobe flash/shockwave flash at least a dozen times, I have disabled all add-ons to try to isolate if this was a problem, and the flash player wouldnt work at all, but as soon as I enabled the Adobe Actve X the problem began again, so it is not another add-on causing the issue. I have disabled the hardware acceleration. Still a problem.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server. Any difference? If not...
2. Clear Firefox's Cache Completely

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
3. If needed, remove the site's cookies in this dialog
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

I have already installed the latest versions of FF and Flash, disabled the hardware acceleration, disabled Firefox add-ons, updated by NVDIA drivers... but it's impossible to see a video unless is HTML5.

Typically video playback crashes are related to graphics drivers, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. The crash you're seeing is a random generic crash that happens due to some limitations in the Firefox plug-in architecture and the security model that we retrofit. We're now early on in a collaborative effort with Mozilla to build a next-generation sandbox that will hopefully address these core stability issues, while still providing users with the important security protections imparted by the existing sandbox -- unfortunately, that effort is going to take months, not days or weeks.
I have a few things to try:
First, go to Control Panel > Flash Player > Advanced and choose Delete All and Deauthorize This Computer
If the crashing persists, try Refreshing Firefox:

Firefox has been experimenting on their own with a number of changes that impact Flash Player, and it's possible that a recent change may have exacerbated this problem. It's been a couple months since we've done any video work in the player, so it's unlikely that this is fallout from a recent change in Flash. You might want to try out the Firefox ESR to see if that's more stable:

Finally, if you're having absolutely no luck, you might give Google Chrome a shot. It would be an interesting data point to know if it's isolated to one browser, and it's a significantly different version of Flash Player, so you may have a more stable experience overall there.

When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
#run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
#enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

the common thing here seems to be that news type videos crash and entertainment type don't. also videos seem more likely to crash on internet portals like yahoo
