FireFox crashes immediately without opening on several users PCs since last week, how do I resolve?
Hi
we have several users using Firefox (varies from v15 to v19) in Windows XP SP3, who have started experiencing Firefox crashes before the app actually starts. Here are a selection of crash IDs:
bp-02dd0e2b-fc51-42e6-94d3-e54a62130320
bp-6a57380e-6fc4-467d-9c4a-f95c52130320
bp-6675d337-0d25-4263-afed-4ba5e2130320
bp-a64a4507-d3e1-44a1-8958-5025e2130320
I've tried uninstalling (including manually deleting the user profile), restarting and reinstalling. The crash occurs no mater who's logged in and in safe mode as well.
Any ideas?
Check for malware also.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

Firefox crashes immediately upon opening though I can run it in safe mode
I recently performed a system restore which took my computer back to 2/27/11. I found that after this I was unable to open firefox, the program crashed immediately. I have been able to run it in safe mode. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but it has not helped. I have windows 7 and an Acer Aspire computer.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Firefox crashes immediately upon opening
I have attempted launching FireFox in "Safe Mode" though it still crashes/will not open in.
Before this it would not open at all, no crash report's, no nothing. Then I reset my computer to a prevous update version. And now it gives me a crash report.
(I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox and it still will not open, and I am no longer getting crash reports)Hi,
You can try to clean install a fresh copy after uninstalling the present version via Windows Control Panel '''Programs and Features'''. While uninstalling make sure to choose deleting the preferences and folders. Please also see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/916668#answer-305338 this] regarding problems with security software.
To backup important info which can be restored later, please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s this.] Some of the important files could be '''places.sqlite''' which holds the bookmarks and history, '''key3.db''' + '''signons.sqlite''' which are needed to restore the saved passwords etc.

I cannot get firefox to work at all even with updates and reloads. it crashes as soon as it opens
== Crash ID(s) ==
bp-392c5b2c-2de7-4d9c-96b2-149802090831First of all you need to create an account with an email provider of your choice. Typically you'd do that via the provider's web site. Whatever provider you choose, you don't have to have another email address for that.
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't continue to use your existing freeserve.co.uk address. Since you apparently deleted the account in Thunderbird, you'd need to set it up once again.
I can't tell why this didn't work initially, most likely one of your settings wasn't correct.
Follow these instructions when setting up a new account in Thunderbird.

I was trying to change settings to access the comments section of Slate.com. Right or wrong, I changed a Java setting from -1 to 2. The setting was in about:config and I believe it involved some sort of max. As I cannot open anything, I am not sure.
When I made the change, firefox crashed immediately, Every time I have tried to reopen, even in safe mode, it immediately crashes again and will not reopen.Hi pternagy,
Sorry you are having problems.
For future reference. Those of us that mess directly with about:config soon learn how to recover from mistakes and what it is sensible to backup. Occasionally backing up your entire profile for instance can be useful and would have probably given you a quick solution of copying over the file from that backup.
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
Ok on to the subject of trying to get Firefox back as it was:
Find your profile and the file ''prefs.js'' and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your preferences to the default. You can then re open and use Firefox. Next try to get it back to normal.
Trying to manually edit the file ''prefs.js'' is normally a bad idea. However if it is a single pref change it may be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (whilst Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before . You have the renamed file to work with. Probably best to test all this out in a new additional profile then you only break additional test profiles not working profiles essential to Firefox.
These articles should help you:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file

Please post back with how you get on and whether you need any extra help.

Safari 7.0.3 crashes immediately upon opening
Upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.3 and added Safari update to 7.0.3. Safari now crashes immediately upon opening, please help.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

I have unlocked my iPhone 3G with Vodafone via iTunes, but now the downloaded apps crash immediately when opened. I've tried a Restore, but this didn't help. I've also tried removing all apps and re-installing them, but they still don't work. Any ideas? Thanks.
yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
go to the device summary
click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this! -
FCP crashes immediately after opening
I have been editing a movie for a couple of days. From time to time FCP stopped loading immediately after opening. Today FCP crashes immediately after opening ("...reading project" and stop), but now it refuses to open whatever I try. Some other movies open without problems. The recent movie is well saved. It's about 15 minutes, I work with FCP 3.5.1. Any suggestions?
Thanks for reacting so quickly. Unfortunately it didn't help. I trashed preference files, repaired disk permissions. The 'Kenstone' suggestion doesn't work because the movie does not open at all. All my other fcp movies open flawlessly, so the problem clearly is in the file, not in the app or the mac. I see no other way to reopen it (not accepted in imovie or QT). I back up all my projects on an external disc, but unfortunately only once a week. I'm afraid i have to restart the project from scratch.

Fcpx crashes immediately after open. HELP!!!
I"ve been using FCPX 10 since version one and I've been using 10.04 since it came out. As of last night something weird has been happening and my FCPX crashes immediately after opening. Basically shutting down and giving me the error message box. I pasted the error code below in hopes that someoone will read it and can tell me my issue. I did have a drive fail yesterday, but the projects I'm working on are not on that drive. I use Event Manager X to remove that failed drive and only show the project I need and still FCPX quits immediately after launch. I need to get to work and this is a really bad slowdown.

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

If I try to get it to create a dump file, the program crashes before I can click on it in task manager to tell it to create a dump file, and I get another error message stating "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." If I could get to it fast enough in task manager, it might create a dump file, but it crashes too quickly.
I ran the repair fundction on the program, and the only thing I got from that was wasted time. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit. Everything is fully updated. Until I ran the most recent update to Acrobat 9, it was happy. It won't let me uninstall that update, so I need help getting this sorted out. Hope you can help. Thanks.Okay, I went to the Dell site, which tried to give me an older driver for the wrong model video card, so I went to the AMD site, which correctly identified my card and gave me the correct newer driver. Installed it, restarted the computer for good measure, and I am getting the exact same problem I had before. At least it's reproduceable. I guess that's better that only doing it sometimes, but it sure is frustrating. I'm working hard at getting nowhere, but I appreciate your advice and support. Thanks.

Uptated to iOS 5 on my ipad2 and now all of my apps that weren't preinstalled on the iPad crash immediately after opening. I already tried restarting the ipad and that didn't work. I really don't want to have to do this with 100+ apps. Or sit through a complete restore...
Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
