Firefox crashes on OS X Yosemite

Firefox crashes when I load any page. This started happening when I migrated to a new Mac running OS X Yosemite. However, it does not happen on another Mac running Yosemite.
I've updated to 33.0.3. It happens in Safe Mode. I've reset Firefox and even deleted my profile and started fresh. I've removed questionable plugins and fonts. No change. It even crashes when trying to process a crash report.

And there it is. Now that I've posted I can see the crash log, which shows the dreaded fbplugin. I was looking in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins, not ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins when I cleaned up.
Killed it with fire, now I'm back up and running.

  • Firefox crashing when closing tab -- no Norton

    I've got an old version of Firefox, as it's the only version that works in tandem with Greasemonkey for a script I need for work. I've never had any problems with it, and I've been using it for years.
    All of a sudden, the last few days, Firefox crashes whenever I close the tab that my Greasemonkey script opens. This tab is just a simple local file, a flash alert beep that opens. When I close it, Firefox crashes. It's never done this before. I've had this version of Firefox on my computer for years, as I said, and it's only recently that this has started to happen.
    I don't have Norton antivirus. I have Avast. I have disabled Avast's Web Reputation Plugin, in case it was that, but that didn't help.
    Firefox 3.0.19 (Yes, it's an old build, but, again, as I said, I have had no problems with it.)
    Windows 7 SP1 (32 bit)

    Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Hi, ideato. Thanks. I have tried updating before, but unfortunately any FF version beyond 3.x.x breaks my Greasemonkey script. And I know what you're saying, that my version is old, but the point is, it's been working perfectly on my machine for years. This problem has suddenly just appeared recently. So it isn't some old, unsupported bug, but a recent issue on my machine that I can't figure out.
    If I could just know from the crash report if there's some conflict or the like that's causing this, then I could uninstall the offending program/process/add-on.

  • Firefox crashes every time I launch it making the program unopenable

    At first firefox 4 was fine for about a couple of months then I notcied it crashing all the time, about 30% of the time I open a new tab or page it would crash.
    Now when I opend firefox I get a crash report before the browser has even opened, even if I open a link in outlook it crashes right away. Perhaps it is openeing a page I had open that it just constantly crashes on or maybe the program crashes upon any open page, I am not sure.
    Give me back firefox 3.0 :( (I was forced to post this using IE it is a sad day)

    Hello,
    Unfortunately, I am not able to pull up the crash reports but try safe mode:
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.

    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''

  • Firefox crashes when i go to yahoo mail and youtube

    == Issue
    ==
    Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
    == Description
    ==
    When I first downloaded and installed Firefox, all the sites were working just fine. I went around YouTube watching videos, went to my Yahoo! mail, etc. But, later on, when I tried to visit YouTube again, Firefox kept crashing. I thought if I just shut down my laptop and waited until the next day, it would be fine. But, I visited Yahoo! mail first, and everything was fine for about 5 minutes, but then Firefox suddenly crashed. I opened up Firefox again, visited Yahoo! mail again, and Firefox crashed once more. I went around Mozilla for help, and I noticed that other people have had this problem too. I tried to fix it by going into 'My Computer' and deleting that plugin stated in the help page, but I can't seem to find anything in my computer. So help please on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!
    Also, I had restored my laptop to its factory settings right before installing Firefox (because my laptop had problems), so would this affect it in any way? Before I restored to factory settings, my laptop never had these problems with Firefox.

    Hello Teresa.
    Unfortunately, the computer doesn't work with waiting for issues to fix themselves, by themselves. Unless this is an error with the sites themselves (unlikely), it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
    If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
    If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

  • Why does Firefox crash when I try to view my Twitter page?

    For the past week, almost every time I try to open a new tab to go to Twitter.com (or right-click on a link in a tweet), Firefox crashes on me. Today when I tried to go to Twitter, Firefox will only load the Twitter navigation bar and not the rest of the page. I have attempted to view my Twitter page multiple times.
    I can view my Twitter page in IE, Google Chrome and Opera, but not Firefox, which is my preferred browser. Have there been any changes to Firefox in the last week that could have caused this?

    You already posted some of the crash report links in another thread that you had created, so I'm going to lock this thread.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to open a downloaded file

    Hello!
    Whenever I try to open a file I have just downloaded Firefox stops working. I get a windows 'Firefox has stopped working' error message.

    Firefox crashes
    I have tried the following:
    - reinstall firefox
    - refresh firefox
    - start firefox in safe mode (still crashes)
    I have also tested in Windows safe mode and do not have the problem there. I believe this indicates that there is another piece of software that is causing the crash but I don't know how to identify which other piece of software it is.
    Firefox doesn't record these crashes in about:crashes so I have no log to share.
    I do have an Error from the Windows event viewer:

  • How to stop tabs re-opening after firefox crashes.........when it crashes and I have multiple tabs open, when re-starting firefox all of the tabs re-open too. How can I stop this?

    Firefox crashes quite often, especially when I have multi tabs open. I usually have to use CTRL ALT DEL and end the process as Firefox stops responding.
    My problem is not the crashing........it is the re-opening of the multiple tabs I had open, when normally it is one of them (not the home page) that caused the crash in the first place, so I cannot re-open firefox until I restart the pc, because every time I do it is the same story. Firefox tries to re-open all of the tabs and stops responding. I have looked in options but nowhere does it allow me to stop multiple tabs opening after a crash. If this continues, I will have to uninstall Firefox and stick to Chrome.

    Set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes

  • Firefox crashes whenever I try to open a link from Facebook? I need somebody involved in the upgrade to help me, I don't want to go to a forum and post a question to a load of people when I have no idea if they are qualified to give me advice!

    I updated Firefox to the latest release on 1/8/12. Now every time I click on a link to go to youtube, zynga or other links on Facebook, Firefox crashes. I would love to be able to go back to the Firefox I had before 1/8/12, but I cannot find out how to do that. I have almost zero knowledge of computer software and how it all works, the "error reports" and the mumbo=jumbo that people talk about on the "forums" mean nothing to me, I just want an edition of Firefox that works so I don't have to go back to using IE8.

    I'm sorry, but simply posting links to pages full of technical information will do nothing to help me. For example, I have no idea what safe mode is, or how to achieve it. I need step-by-step instructions in the form of "an idiots guide to"......

  • Firefox crashes when I try to use DataLoad, and I was able to use this program a month ago.

    In the recent past I have been able to use a program called DATALOAD (shareware) to load data into Firefox web forms (specifically web based sales tax returns).
    However, now every time I try it now Firefox crashes, so I am forced to use IE (which I hate). The last time I used Dataload was in April 2011 (for my quarterly tax returns).
    On of the latest updates to Firefox must have a conflict with this program.
    Can you please research to see what changed in Firefox to make it crash when using Dataload? I do not want to use IE if I do not have to.
