Firefox crashes opening PDF's

All software is up to date, Norton scans indicate no viruses.
Most of the time when I click on a link that opens a PDF if the browser Firefox crashes and an error report is generated.

Ok, if a new profile profile has the same issue, it's an indicative that it's something outside Firefox that is causing this problem. This may be a plugin (they are installed outside the browser, and new profiles will have all installed plugins enabled), a virus, malware, a firewall/antivirus/security suite, or any other software outside Firefox. It's not a known issue, and I can't replicate it on my end, so you'll have to search for the cause yourself. Do be aware that Firefox's update may have broken something in how other software gets along with Firefox, and that may be the cause of the crashes. Malware too, so do clean your system.
To scan for malware, install, update and run these programs ''in this order''. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in their "free mode", but the features you'll miss are not really needed to find and remove the problem you have. Remember that ''not all programs detect the same malware''!

  • How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?

Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files.  How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?

"Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

  • This morning, Firefox stopped opening .pdf documents that I am trying to retrieve from websites. It does not download them, and the page goes blank, with nothing more happening. What do I do to fix it?

I went to the FAA website, and I needed to review a document. I clicked on the link, the page turned blank, but I never saw the document. I tried again, but I still could not get the document. Word documents still bring up the dialog box allowing me to open the document. I went to another website to find additional information on the project I am working on, and I am experiencing the same problem, when I click on a link to a pdf, it will not open, and the download dialog box does not open.
I have tried looking at applications and plugins, but everything seems to be fine. What do I do to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Anne

  • Firefox cannot open pdf

I have a problem opening pdfs from certain websites.
This problem occured when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.
I usually opened pdf-files from Firefox in the adobe reader directly (not using the plugin). Now this does not work any more.
When having set, that pdfs should be opened in the adobe reader nothing happens, when I click on the pdf-link. If pdfs should be opened using the adobe acrobat (in firefox) it works in most cases. But unfortunately it does not work everywhere. In some cases a new (empty) firefox window pops up, but nothing else happens.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
By now I tried re-installing firefox, as well as the adobe reader, I disabled and enabled the plugins sequentially, but I did not find any solution!

So far Ive found a solution for the cases where the pdf is not opened. Its not perfect, but at least it works
If I open the pdf in a new tab (right click on pdf-icon, then "open link in a new Tab") it works.
    Hope this helps...

  • Set firefox to open pdf documents in adobe reader via script or GPO

I am trying to change the settings of 400+ Windows 7 PCs with 2-10 users per PC. They all use Firefox and Adobe Reader XI. I would like to know how to use the Mozilla Administrative Template or how to create a GPO to change the default pdf viewer in Firefox to Reader XI. i need a way to be able to configure it so when a user logs into the PC via our domain login Firefox will be automatically configured to open PDF's from Firefox in an Adobe Reader window, otherwise we have to manually configure it and that gets very frustrating after the 2nd PC

  • Firefox not opening PDF with Adobe Reader for Mac

I can't open PDF in Firefox with Adobe Reader for Mac, what should i do?

I have come across this problem, but i have solved my problem. The default PDF viewer with Firefox browser on Mac is Preview, so you can't use adobe reader to open PDF files, if you want to use Adobe Reader to open pdf with Firefox on mac, you need set adobe reader as your mac's default pdf viewer. Do as follows:
    1. Select any PDF file and choose File > Get Info.
    2. Choose Adobe Reader as your default PDF files viewer from the Browser in Download Action window.
    3. Click OK to set Adobe Reader as your default PDF files viewer.

  • Firefox crashes when opening PDF, Word and other files

Recently, Firefox stopped being able to open PDF files within the Firefox program. It crashes whether one tries to have it open the file or just download it. The same occurs when trying to open a Word doc. It does this in safe mode too. Since I am studying for a college degree and use these features a lot, I've had to stop using Firefox. This is a problem, because my university uses Firefox for its classes and other programs aren't as compatible. I've tried EVERYTHING suggested on line, both in Firefox help pages and in user pages. Nothing works.

Fix the [http://browser.iyogi.com/firefox/firefox-not-opening-pdf.html '''PDF not opening in Mozilla Firefox'''] issue by reinstalling Adobe Reader. You need to uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install it to get the issue fixed. It is important to uninstall all versions of Adobe Reader that you may have in your system. Also, take care of installing the latest Adobe Reader for the browser.

  • Firefox will not open pdf files & changes the options/applications settings?

At first, with default settings, Firefox would not open pdf files & came up only with a blank screen & no file reference. Going to options/applications & changing the default to a new installation of Adobe Reader still brought up a blank screen but this time with the file ref. Oddly though, attempting to open any pdf file would then change the setting under applications back to Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox). But this doesn't work. So what do I need to do to get Firefox to open pdf files correctly using Adobe Reader?

  • Opening pdf links forces a crash in firefox and explorer

    hi
I've downloaded the trial version of acrobat pro - as soon as I click a pdf link or a web page has an embedded pdf both internet explorer and firefox crash out. I've had to disable pdf handling to allow them at least to be viewed separately to the browsers.
This is a brand new installation of windows XP Pro, so not that.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated
