This happens even if I simply hover the mouse over bookmarks, not even opening a page.
And waiting for this to happen some times or closing and re-opening seems to make it work ok again.
I've already disabled almost all add-ons (I'm using only one for Flash and NoScript right now), reinstalled Firefox (8.0.1), restoring only the bookmarks from an older version.

If you try to download Mountain Lion and your system won't support it, will it tell you, or will it try and then crash the computer?

I have a MacBook Pro purchased in 2008.  It is a 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 GB memory and I am currently using OS 10.7 Lion.  But it is one of the "silver keyboard" models.  I was told by someone that I would not be able to use Mountain Lion.  I have already purchased it for use on my new MacBook Pro, and would like to put it on this one as well, but don't know if I should just try it.

  • After upgrading to 8.0 everytime I start my computer a window pops up saying Firefox needs the computer to be restarted. I've done it - it still pops up.

I have Win Vista. After I upgraded Firefox to 8.0 a window is popping up and continually saying Firefox needs the computer to restart to finalize installation. I've done the restart when prompted - the next time I start up the computer it does it again, same message.

Just went down this road. Bought two new iPhones last week, one is having this same problem. No help from the store, no help from apple. Re-setting,  re-booting, updating, all did nothing. Time to move away from apple.  When you have to go through as much as we did to try to solve such a very simple issue, after paying so much money, it's definitely time to try a different product.  Apple charges a fortune, yet they provide the same ridiculous service as everyone else. Why get hosed?

  • Firefox crashes the entire computer

For roughly the last year, Firefox has been crashing my entire computer, causing the system to hang and then shut down unexpectedly.
I have been able to narrow down the source of these crashes specifically to Firefox over the past few months.
I have a Dell XPS 8000 bought January 2010 with an i7 860 2.80Ghz and 16GB RAM, running Windows 7 64-bit. The crashes I receive only occur when Firefox is running and occur anytime between 5 mins of running FF up to 30 mins. I have tested this with nothing running except for FF and still receive crashes.
I use CoreTemp to monitor each core and none of them go above 50 C at the time FF crashes. I can run video playlists on Winamp, sync my iPad with iTunes as it updates several apps, use AutoGK and WinFF simultaneously to convert video, and have Chrome running with 5-8 tabs open and never receive this crash. I've also pushed the system further by having all the above running as well as CS3 Photoshop and Dreamweaver and mimic a server with Xampp and even then, my system will run just fine, albeit with temps in the high 70s.
I've only received these crashes only with Firefox running. To fix this, I've run fresh installations of Firefox twice and then today, since I've been running the same profile info since before 3.5, I backed up my bookmarks, completely uninstalled and then reinstalled FF without any of my addons, and in the middle of recreating my normal tabs and pinned tabs, received the same old crash. As a last resort, I let go of all my bookmarks and began adding them all individually, and once again, received the same crash; this last test was when I had nothing but FF running and temps below 50 C.
I am terribly frustrated by this issue because I am writing this from an HP laptop running FF with a profile that's been used since 3.5 and I can run FF and Minecraft on this laptop with no problems at all. I also have the same FF profile ported over to my Macbook Air and no issues there either.
I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this problem or how I can go about fixing it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Firefox crashes MY COMPUTER!!! When I open it, my computer BLUE SCREENS then turns off!!!

Within the past few months, I have not been able to use Firefox at all. It started crashing my whole computer, making the whole thing go blue screen before shutting down, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it TWICE, the second time sacrificing ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS, and even after that, it STILL CRASHED MY COMPUTER! My college professors prefer that I use this browser to do my WebCT assignments (and *tests*) and I have been unable to do so.

  • After Firefox updated, the computer locked up when I turned on the HP Scanjet G4050. Why?

Firefox seemed to be working fine, but when I turned on the scanner, the screen locked. I couldn't do a "force quit". The only solution was unplugging. I tried this twice after restarting and the same thing happened. Each time I turned off the scanner before restarting. Once, I left the scanner on after unplugging the computer. Then, when Firefox was launched it locked up.

Matt answered my question in another Discussion area.
    Thanks Matt!

  • Firefox crashing my computer?

    Hello,
I'm using Firefox 2 with my G5. I don't know but Firefox crashes very often here. Strange since it's the only application I have problems with (apart from the MS Office).
But now not only Firefox crashed, no, the whole system fell down. I got a message moving up from the bottom telling me to hold the reset button for several seconds to reboot. Reminded me the good old windows blue screen times
Here is the report I sended Apple. Can anyone do something with this report? Is it really Firefox causing these problems or is something fishy with the system?

Ok, try to clean your PC with [https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download CCleaner], do deep defrag and optimization with [http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.html Smart Defrag], make sure you have space on your primary drive(where your OS is installed), test your memory with [http://www.memtest.org/ Memtest86+]. If this doesn't help probably most painless and fastest solution will be to reinstall your Windows. Also keep in mind that Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, so if you are in position to move to a newer version of Windows would be a right thing to do. If you reinstall your OS, just update OS and install drivers before you install Firefox and test it then without any other software installed.

Crashes the second I purchase on Ebay. When Firefox reopens, it brings me to the purchase page again making me think the transaction did not go through. Later I find out the transaction did go through.

This is all very confusing and frustrating. You recommended that I install the latest updates for:
    1. Shockwave Flash security (but do not tell me the number for the latest update)
    2. Java Plug-In version 1.6.0_07
    3. Flash version 10.0
However, you do not tell me how install these. I also woke up early so I could access your Chat service from 6:00 - 7:00 am Pacific time but it is not available. I have also not been able to find a contact phone number to get my problem resolved. I regularly purchase on ebay and have had this problem for all 3 purchases I made in the last week. I need to purchase several other items in the next few weeks before I leave the country for 2 months. I need to get this problem resolved immediately. If someone can call me, my phone number is 720-***-****.
    Thank you.

  • Encore CS6 crashes the computer

I have a DVD project authored including a motion menu with motion buttons, chapter points and a play list. The main movie is a Premiere Pro CS6 timeline with chapter points and poster frames. There is also a first play video. The PPRO sequence was imported using Adobe Bridge. When I preview it in Encore it plays fine. Everything works, including the motion buttons, first play and play list. The problem arrises when I try to output the project to DVD. The motion menu renders and the transcoding starts. Then the computer crashes HARD. The reset button won't even work. It is necessary to turn off the power to get it started again. I have tried this several times and it crashes at the same point.
My computer is plenty strong enough with an Intel 4790 Z89 chip and Asus Z89 mother board. The C drive is a solid state drive. The data drives are 2 TB WD drives, not in RAID. 16 Gigs of memory too. I have had absolutely no problems with this setup running other Adobe CS6 applications. I have the Creative Suite bundle.
Has any body else seen this and does any one know what to do to fix it? Am I doing something wrong?
    TIA
    Joe

The troubleshooting approach depends on whether you are on deadline. If so, replace the dynamic links with exports from PR. Use replace asset.
    Otherwise, try these 2 links:
Troubleshoot damaged projects in Encore on Windows

Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows

Be sure you are updated to Encore 6.0.2 (for windows).

  • Firefox slows the computer down

Almost immediately after installing Firefox 4 my computer started to run slowly. Not just Firefox itself, the RSS Ticker add-on barely moved across the screen; but it affected MS Outlook too. It also affected the Windows Explorer.
I found an old copy of Firefox 3.5 and reinstalled that and now everything is working fine.
    Open to suggestions.

  • Time Machine Crashing the Computer

I just set up a 5 terabyte Raid tower striped 0 connected with a Sata II card. I'm trying to backup a 2 terabyte external firewire drive.
I've tested the raid and have written 1 terabyte to the raid without any problems whatsoever. However, when I throw TM into the mix it crashes the finder after 30 to 50 GBs have been written. The computer is totally unresponsive and I get the grey screen of death after a few minutes.
Machine is last years Mac Pro with 12 Gigs. The machine is extremely stable.
Anyone have suggestions, both the firewire and raid seem to work perfectly.

… since I can't edit this post anymore, I'll tell how in continues here. After more reading, the idea struck me to sign out of iCloud in System Preferences. That stopped the alleged Moving, but didn't restore any data. Neither does restoring the user/Library/Calendar folder via Time Machine. So, the question would now bifurcate into: How can I start using iCloud without losing data? And: Why can't I restore Calendar data the described way, and what do I need to do?
    Thanks

  • Firewire- unit crashes the computer (Maxtor)

I have a maxtor external hard disc that has worked fine until now. After installing Retrospect Express something strange happened to my startup objects (they all disappeared) and after that this maxtor unit crashes the machine if I try to mount it.
My question is; can I restore my startup objects and maybe more critical; can I get this external fire wire unit to work for me again. I must add that this unit actually has an usb-connector as well, and mounting it via the usb actually works.
    Jon

It works. No more lock-ups for me with the legacy driver.
Here are the instructions (taken from the link above):
Windows 7's built-in FireWire (called IEEE 1394) drivers do not work properly. External devices connected via FireWire will either fail to be recognized properly, or lock up when initiating file transfers of any appreciable size. Luckily there is a relatively simple fix for this issue. Windows 7 includes the older Vista drivers, which work just fine. You simply need to roll back the drivers on your 1394 host adapter by doing the following: Open Device Manager, expand your IEEE 1394 Host Bus Controllers and right-click on your 1394 device, then choose "Update Driver Software". In the new window, click on "Browse my computer for driver software", then choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then select the driver with the word "legacy" in brackets.
Don't forget to restart after you do this.
