Firefox crashes upon startup. Tried reinstall to no avail.

Firefox doesn't start. At all. Not even in safe mode. I just get a crash report. I have run Malwarebytes several times as well as Avast. Tried clean reinstall five times. Any help really welcome. =/

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you.

  • Firefox crashes upon startup after update to new version and download attempt

I was asked to update to a new version of Firefox, and when I responded positively to something like, "Do you want to run Firefox now?" it crashed immediately. When I tried to launch it from the desktop it crashed immediately. When I launched it holding down the shift key it brought up Internet Explorer, not Firefox. I don't know why. I tried to download Firefox from scratch, but the result was the same--it crashed upon launch.

Is this a chat forum? Will someone help me from here? Should I just wait here?

  • Firefox crashes upon startup

Starting today, every time I try to open Firefox it crashes immediately. I have uninstalled and removed the entire Firefox folder several times. Firefox is able to load in safe mode, but if I have to browse in safe mode I might as well use Google Chrome because it still works and can have addons. The only thing I can think of that I changed recently was I updated my NVIDIA drivers to version 285.79 Beta yesterday. I had 5.0 for the first crash and updated to 8.0.2 thinking it may fix the problem. I do not have any of the programs that frequently cause crashes.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox crashes upon startup every time

Our power went out unexpectedly and then Windows had a hard time restarting. I had to restore the settings to a snapshot of the system one month ago for me to be able to use Windows again.
Now Mozilla won't start, and every time I click on the Firefox icon, a crash report message appears.

Firefox does not always restore well that way. {'''edit '''<-- using Windows restore snapshots does not always create all files correctly ) You may have to do a clean reinstall, after deleting the firefox program folder. Take care in doing this:
    * do NOT use any options from Windows or Firefox that suggest removing personal settings, or you will loose passwords and bookmarks.
*see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall <br/> note you are trying to retain your personal data and not delete any profile files
#Download firefox installation file (using any working browser) from getfirefox.com
#Delete from your computer the Firefox programs folder, for the faulty install as explained above.
#Find the downloaded install file and click or doubleclick to run it
Note there is likely to be a new version of firefox '''Firefox 10.0.1''' released within a few days, some users are having problems with 10.0 causing crashes.
It is possibly not worth following up on your crash ID at present, but please obtain and post them again if the new re-install also crashes. • Firefox crashes upon Startup; no extensions, brand new profile

Even after a clean install (removing all previous profile settings and extensions/plug-ins), Firefox 7.0.1 still will not run as per it's normal operating characteristics.
Immediately after double-clicking on the icon, the Crash Reporter states a crash has occured. Alternatively, safe-mode will not start successfully either.
    Any ideas?

  • Firefox crashes on startup and we've tried all your solutions but none work

Firefox crashes when I double click the icon. I have gone through all the fixes on the website with no improvement. I am able to get it to open only when I right click and use the run as administrator option. I have reinstalled firefox, changed profiles, and tried safe mode option. All had the same effect firefox crashed on startup. I have run four different malware removal programs and restarted the computer, still crashes. I also ran my antivirus program last night and still crashes. I turned off the firewall and still crashes. I tried also the reset option in troubleshooting options but still crashes. Firefox worked fine till yesterday then java updated and the crashes started occurring, I have also done a system restore to before java updated but still crashes.
here is the crash report information.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply back to you, things around here got crazy with work and home life and I just had a chance this morning to get the crash report.
Here is the latest report ID from the computer.

  • Firefox crashes on startup

    Here's the deal.
From one day onto the next, out of the blue, Firefox (version 18.0.1) refuses to start up.
I get the crash reporter screen as soon as Firefox tries to start, stating that firefox has crashed.
If I click on "Details" nothing happens.
If I click on "Restart Firefox" I immidiately get the next Crash Reporter screen.
No Windows updates were installed, and no Firefox updates either from what I can tell.
    I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 btw...
So I tried starting firefox in "Windows Compatability mode" using Windows XP SP3.
Now Firefox starts, including all plugins, without any problems.
I can also start firefox in "Safe mode" by holding down the SHIFT key when double-clikcing on the firefox icon.
So while in safe mode, I typed about:crashes in the URL bar witch showed the following:
    Submitted Crash Reports
    <pre><nowiki>bp-26e20406-2344-4d8a-8573-1fdf12130130 30-1-2013 16:07

    </nowiki></pre>
(in the mean time, I have a whole lot more :( )
So then (still in Firefox safe mode) I went into the Add-ons Manager and uninstalled all Extensions.
Then I disabled all plugins (which btw are all up to date according to Firefox itself):
    Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.110.21 10.11.2.21
    Java(TM) Paltform SE 7 U11 10.11.2.21
    Adobe Acrobat 11.0.1.36
    Shockwave Flash 11.5.205.146
    Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.10411.0
    VLC Web Plugin 2.0.2.0
    Wacom Tablet Plugin 2.1.0.2
Then I closed Firefox, but when trying to start Firefox again in normal mode, it crashed again.
I have also tried uninstalling Firefox completely, then running a registry cleaner to make sure everything was really gone.
Then downloading and installed Firefox 18.0.1 again.
But as soon as it started it crashed again.
I again uninstalled Firefox, ran the reg-cleaner but this time I installed Firefox version 9 (which I still had on a backup drive), but this version too, crashes on startup.
And I had the same with version 15 which I also still had on the backup drive.
But whichever version I install, they all crash at startup unless I start them in compatibility mode or safe mode.
I even uninstalling all the programs which had a plugin embeded in the browser, so there were no plugins left.
And again, uninstalled Firefox and reinstaled it. But still Firefox crashes at startup.
And finally I even updated my graphics drivers and followed this thread:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration#os=win7&browser=fx18
Since I've done everything I can think off, I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be.
So if anyone has any idea, please let me know.
I hate to switch browsers, and I don't want to run things in "compatability mode" just to have it working, because it did work before.
in the mean time, here are some more crash reports:

    Just a small update...
I tried running a portable version of Firefox which I had on my USB stick... same problem.
The same goes for my TOR Browser (which uses Firefox too), it too crashes when the embedded Firefox is started.
Both however, have always worked just fine on the same system and still work fine on any other system I have.
    ---edit---
Well I finished uninstalling and removing everything Firefox related on my system (also ran the reg-cleaner again).
I downloaded and reinstalled Firefox 18, but it still crashes.
I ran it in safe mode, disabled the hardware acceleration, and ran it again in normal mode...
    guess what... it works again!
The weird thing is, I already tried disabling the hardware acceleration but it didn't work.
So why it works now? I haven't got a clue.
The other weird thing is... why did this problem occur in the first place... There have been no changes to my system, no updates, nothing.
Ah well, I guess I'll never know. But at least it's working again.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Acrobat DC crashes upon startup [iOS]

I tried several times to open the program (Acrobat DC) on my iPad Air, but it kept crashing upon startup. Had 2 years worth of documents in the local file location. I deleted the app and reinstalled, My tablets available space has not changed. Is it possible the information is still on my tablet?

    Hi,
I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with the new Acrobat DC app.
If you uninstall any iOS app (not just Acrobat DC for iOS), iOS will erase all associated app data including your PDF documents.  If you have a full backup of your iPad before the Acrobat DC update, you should be able to restore it and turn off the automatic update of apps.
You mentioned "2 years worth of documents".  Do you recall the total size of the documents?  We heard from other users that they experienced the same or similar crash and had over 1.5 GB of PDF documents stored locally on iPad.

  • Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below

I have one computer that crash every time I start Firefox. Ocassionally the firefox window will appear for less than a second and then the Crash Report Window shows up; most times it goes right to Crash Report Window. Then it is for some reason unable to send the crash repor; it keeps looping back to the crash report. I've checked my modem and router are operating correctly; I have another computer that's working fine. I've run scan for Trojans, viruses and still see the problem. Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm stuck at this point. For what it's worth, Internet Explorer has the same problem, crashing upon opening.

Hello. I have a similar problem to the question of Ryan Vaught, (Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below [MY] Firefox version: prior one to 3.6.7 Operating System: Windows XP Provessional). Mine is a bit different tho. Firefox seems to be crashing and my internet crashes right with it. When it does this, it also takes out some Win32 system .exe files. I too have ran AVG (Full Coverage /Purchased one) and then updated to Viper (Sunbelt Software) and it comes up clean of any viruses, etc. Once it crashes and I close Firefox, the crash report request comes up. When I hit send, it says it cannot be sent with no additional information as to why. I just updated Firefox to 3.6.7 and sure hope this helps, but it almost always happens when I am playing games that use flash. I can send a screenshot if you need it and feel free to edit my question if need be. I've checked my Viper settings and can get to all the websites so far trying to rule it out. Deleted my internet set up and then added it back as a new connection (hope that made sense), so I don't know who to be asking this question of, but hoping you may know the answer why I can't send the crash report. Whew! Sorry for the lengthy question/issue. Your help is greatly appreciated!! Carolyn Burnam

Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes . I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in IE-works good.I use Win7 pro and it works in other profiles in Windows 7. I created a new profile in Windows and that worked for about 2 months and now that has gone the same way as my admin profile has done. I deleted the sqlite download file-still same prob..Please help. I use Firefox 13.0.1

    That sounds very frustrating.
By the way, does it say "Download image" or "Save Image As"? Just checking whether you have an add-on downloader in the mix that might be relevant. If you do have an add-on, try using the built-in command.
Do you also crash if you save from here:
right-click page > View Page Info > Media tab > (select image) > Save As
I assume you have seen this article and tried these things: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
Have you tried the new Reset feature in Firefox 13? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.
More information in this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.
    Does it make any difference?

  • InDesign CS4 Uninstaller crashes upon startup.

I recently migrated from Mac OS 10.7.5 to 10.9.2 (Mavericks). Now InDesign CS4 crashes upon startup. I tried to uninstall it, but the CS4 uninstaller also crashes on startup. Anyone know how to get the uninstaller to work?

  • IMovie '09 now crashes upon startup... Just like the previous version did.

If you search on my username, you will find posts regarding my previous iMovie installation (that last iLife...07?). I have a plain old iMac 24" Intel machine. I'm rather new at Mac, and I have nothing out-of-the-ordinary on the machine.
All of sudden, I would start iMovie up and it would crash upon startup. That rendered it useless to me, and, of course, it made the Mac purchase rather disappointing. I bought it so I wouldn't have to worry about problems like this.
My iLife 09 purchase solved the problem. iMovie worked again. Until today.
I just tried to launch it, and pow! Same problem. Crash upon launch. I looked at the "Applications" folder and noticed it was updated on March 30. This was probably the last software update.
I rolled back to the Feb 28 or so version via Time Machine, and it works.
So, just as before, Apple updated my iMovie and broke it. I couldn't fix it before, and now, apparently, they've done it again.
What is going on? I surely hit the "let apple know what happened" button, but will this really do anything? Do I now have to disregard ALL updated for fear that it will break again?
This is VERY VERY frustrating. I bought the thing so it would do what I need it to do - photos and kids video editing - without a big hassle. It turns out that it's been a giant hassle when it comes to this.
Pardon me for seeming frustrated, but I really am.
    What do I do?
    Thanks,
    Kris

search this forum. Apparently -- its common. Others have recommended looking for projects that are zero kb's. While other s have had to delete all projects in the imovie folder. Take a look. I just cross my fingers that i don't get this issue!! Also the more people that report it to apple the better....
