Firefox crashes when aol mail is open

When I read AOL Mail in firefox it crashes doesnt do it in I/E 8

I was having this same problem, but I found that if you simply close the email with the X provided by aol (gray square with a white X in the top right corner but to the left of the ad) instead of the X on the outside that you would normally use to close a browser window, then the problem doesn't happen.

• Firefox crashes when I try to open it.

Firefox 4 and 5 both crash when I try to open it. Sometimes the crash reporter comes up, sometimes the process simply stops. I have uninstalled firefox and installed version 3.6 which does work on my computer. I have tried all of the potential solutions listed on you support sites for this issue. While 4 or 5 are installed, the profile manager will give me the crash reporter so I was unable to test that with those versions as I was unable to access the manager.

• H E L P!!! Firefox crashes when I try to open..even in safe mode.Have sent several reports to Firefox,(which they said they would read report and FIX problem),but nothing has been done.This has been going on for 4 days.H E L P ! ! !

When I click on Firefox Icon to open browser a window opens that says..Firefox has had a problem and has crashed. It says a report will be sent to Mozilla and problem will be fixed when Firefox is closed,(It never opened),I click on close Firefox and it says a report is being sent. Then a few seconds later it says...Report successfully sent and closes. It also asked if I want Mozilla to contact me about this report,I checked yes and have recieved nothing.I WANT MY FIREFOX..This has been going on for since Nov.30th.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• Firefox crashes when I try to open a downloaded file

Hello!
Whenever I try to open a file I have just downloaded Firefox stops working. I get a windows 'Firefox has stopped working' error message.
Steps:
Download a file
Blue download arrow icon flashes to indicate that download has completed
I click the download arrow to open the list of downloaded files
I click the file I want to open
Firefox crashes
I have tried the following:
- reinstall firefox
- refresh firefox
- start firefox in safe mode (still crashes)
I have also tested in Windows safe mode and do not have the problem there. I believe this indicates that there is another piece of software that is causing the crash but I don't know how to identify which other piece of software it is.
Firefox doesn't record these crashes in about:crashes so I have no log to share.
I do have an Error from the Windows event viewer:

Does if help if you check the security tab in the properties of the file and remove a possible internet protection?
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Removing com.apple.mail.plist from the ~Library:Preferences folder and moving the Mail folder out of the ~Library folder didn't make a difference. I rebuilt the Permissions and ran Disk Utilities with no problems found. My Mail folder is quite large - 284.7 MB

There appears to be something wrong with Mail itself.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you're using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
You may also want to take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
Troubleshooting installation and software updates
Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

• Ok, one sentence, that's tough - I have gone through the 'firefox crashes when you open it' troubleshooting but my problem remains that firefox crashes when i open it, how do i fix this?

Several days ago firefox crashed when opening and it does so every time i try to open it now. I am able to use internet explorer perfectly. In fact one way i discovered i can still open firefox is by using Advanced System Care (which i installed after the crashing so it was not in any way responsible) and going to 'test bandswidth'. Because firefox is my default browser it opened it up. I was able to enter safe mode in this way and restart firefox in safe mode. I then set firefox so that all plugins and extensions were disabled but this did not help. I am running the default theme. I will be happy to provide any further information if anyone can help..thanks in advance.

You always need to install such a version alongside of the current release via a custom install and use a separate profile for each Firefox version.
Make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished and use the Profile Manager to create a new (separate) profile for each version.
• Firefox crashes when opening "Extras Add-ons"

Firefox crashes when opening "Extras>Add-ons" (German user interface - I don't know what the according menu points are labeled in English).
The crash seems to be so severe that no crash ID is created. On every restart after a crash Firefox 4 is in offline mode and has to be switched back to online mode. If needed I could provide a screenshot of the error message shown when firefox crashes.
There were no problems on this machine running firefox 3.xx. The problems occurred after upgrading from firefox 3.6x to firefox 4.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
