Firefox crashes when I load pages with Flash content

Whenever I load a page that uses the Flash player plugin, Firefox crashes. When I disable the plugin, the browser works fine. I am also unable to install version 3.6.6. The update downloads, but when I restart the browser, either says "the partial update could not be applied," and tries to download a larger full version, or, if it has downloaded the full version, upon restart it says that firefox needs to be updated to 3.6.6

I solved the problem by downloading the Firefox 3.6.6 installer and then upgrading manually.. Now everything seems to be working fine again..

  • Firefox crashs when visiting any page with flash content, how I can I stop that?

    HI all,
    Any page I visit with a flash video of some sort causes firefox to lockup, youtube is just the most prevalent. The page loads, then the program compatibility assistant pops up. I can't download,cancel or close out of that window and I have to ctrl-alt-delete and shut down the plug in container manually to be able to continue surfing. I have tried all three options on the firefox support page, tried using both 3.6.6 and 4.0 Beta 1, updating flash, no joy on any of those attempts.
    I can play videos using VLC normally and the video that starts up when I visited the 4.0 beta welcome page works fine if that helps any.
    Can anyone help?

    If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see [[Safe Mode]]. Or you can try creating a new profile. Your Firefox settings and info are kept in a folder separate from the Firefox program, called your profile folder. Try creating a test profile, to see if the problem still occurs. See [[Managing profiles]]. Also it can be a extension or plugin causing the problem. Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • When I load pages with video contents like m3u8 I can't see the content from firefox because it says "video format or MIME type is not supporte"

    When I open a link like this:
    http://video.gazzetta.it/puntata-milan-kaka-fa-fuori-faraone/4494065a-13b0-11e3-a11e-38d7c867cc00
    I can't see the video content and I get this error message: video format or MIME type is not supported
    I have adobe flash updated
    I tried to reset firefox
    I have vlc installed
    I can correctly see this link with internet explorer. This is a PARADOX!
    Can somebody help me?

    I see that message when the Flash plugin is disabled.<br />
    If the Flash plugin is enabled or set to click-to-play then a Flash player plays the video.<br />
    Otherwise a video tag is created with a link to an m3u8 stream that Firefox apparently doesn't support.
    You can try to disable all other plugins that deal with media files (start with VLC) to see if that helps.

  • [FP 11.4 & FF 14.0.1] Firefox hang on every page with flash-content

    Hi at all
    I have a problem with the new Flash Player, let me explain it:
    We have a windows-domain with software distribution via GPO.
    Since update to 11.4 via the msi package (11.3 was previously installed) we have in the meanwhile 3 PCs (all Win7 x32 with FF 14.0.1 and Flash 11.4) with this problem:
    - While loading a page with Flash content, the Firefox simply freezes and have to be killed together with plugin-container in order to work again.
    If this happens, ff and plugin-container have 0% cpu-usage. It freezes and does nothing...
    If I remove Flash: Web-pages are working, but without flash.
    What I've tried:
    reinstall using flash-uninstaller
    Using "normal" end-user web-installer
    Uninstall via Uninstaller and tried 11.3 again
    reinstall Firefox, both 14 and 13
    Nothing helped to bring Flash-support back.
    This happens only on FF, Internet Explorer is working fine...
    Can someone give me a hint?

    The key here will be to determine what is different between the machines that work and those that hang.  Of all the systems that fail, they are all Windows 7 32bit?
    Yep, this issue only happens on Windows 7 32-bit machines, currently 6.
    Do you have any 32bit systems that don't fail?
    Yep, the most Windows 7 32-bit machines wont fail.
    What about hardware, are there similarities here?  Attached devices/drivers?  Software that is running at the time?
    These machines are all from DELL. They all have normal hardware, nothing special. Other machines from same type does not affected. Software: All have standard software distributed via Software-distribution (GPO). Only some PCs have special software, but it is not running. No special drives, too.
    Maybe try booting Windows in safe mode to see if it still hangs?
    Good idea, indeed - I will try this.
    We're definitely interested in what's going on.  I'll ask our security and Mozilla folks to see if they have additional clues.
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
    Safe mode: Flash is working! (without disabled Protected Mode!)
    I've set msconfig now to: Custom system start and deselected the boxes to load systemservices and system start elements.
    So, now windows does a non-safe mode boot but no service or element was loaded except the drivers (right?). Flash is not working with this config!
    So, whats the difference between safe mode and normal boot with minimal configuration (see attached picture).
    Only drivers will be loaded, right? If so, I can exclude the network and graphics driver as source: graphics driver are updated right now and network was working in safe-mode.
    Any new ideas?

  • Firefox crashes on pages with Flash content

    MacOS 10.6.5 on a 2008 MacBook Pro
    Firefox 3.6.13
    See below for Flash Player version info
    Well I just updated to a new version of Firefox (3.6.13) and I had Flash Player 10.1 installed. Every time I open any web site with Flash content, Firefox crashes. This happens with Yahoo Mail, CNN, New York Times, etc. So I disabled Flash temporarily, and my Yahoo Mail no longer crashed. Of course I can't watch any online videos now....
    I tried uninstalling Flash Player 10.1 using the Adobe uninstaller, and then re-installing it. No go. I tried the beta 10.2... still crashed. Finally I found a version of Flash 9 for Mac on Adobe's web site, and that does indeed work. Of course it's an older version, but at least I can use Firefox. The bad news is that the plugin is used by Safari also.
    Any ideas?

    I tried something else for now, since I'm using Flash Player 9 on my main system hard drive at the moment....
    I have a bootable 48GB SSD in my ExpressCard slot. I often use it since it's faster. It has the same configuration of Firefox 3.6.13 and FlashPlayer 10.1, but it seems to have no problems. I right clicked a Flash animation and the hardware acceleration in on. Now why would it work on my SSD drive, but not my main hard drive?

  • Win8.1/Chrome 64bit: NPAPI Flash Player crashes on every page with Flash content

    Hi,
    Chrome 64bit (beta+) crashes on Win8.1 64bit, if I use the NPAPI Flash Player (v15 beta or v14 stable) and open a website with Flash content.
    More details here:
    https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=402262

    Turning off NPAPI in Chrome 64-bit will be a very bad move. I'm using a Windows 7 Setup, with a Core2Quad 65 nm CPU and a pathetic Geforce GT 8500 GPU that is basically worthless. PPAPI  flash betas are available as a standalone now at this point, but I have done lots of side by side comparisons, and the PPAPI plugin is absolute garbage compared to the far superior Netscape architecture based plugin. I'm not the only one saying that. I have found loads of forums, and instruction videos online to fix Chrome video playback on youtube for instance. I have to install "Magic Actions for Youtube" addon for chrome so that I can disable HTML5. then I have to go into the plugins menu on chrome and disable pepper flash. I keep the 64 bit flash betas regularly updated this way, and I am getting peak performance. Once in a blue moon it will crash, but I think that is Google's fault. HTML5 should not be the default option in youtube. Compared to Flash, it does not have great GPU acceleration ability, and HTML5 in 64-bit doesn't even perform superior to 32 bit web browsers, where as 64 bit flash is a leap forward, as long as it's the NPAPI version, that is. Problems I have with the HTML5 and also Pepperflash are very similar.   The audio is out of sync with video, and the cpu is maxed out from memory leaking. I'm skipping frames and seeing glitches left and right. The seek functions in pepperflash never work right on youtube, you have to click an inch before wherever you want the video to play. On and on. Pepper flash has audio crackle. You can't get rid of the crackle from pepper flash or HTML 5. Yet, with NPAPI 64 bit flash beta in 64 bit chrome canary it plays PERFECTLY. once in a while I have it crash, which i think is the fault of the fact that I have to use an add on to force off HTML5. Why would I want html5, when flash NPAPI  64 bit produces superior picture quality on all quality settings. It's better in every conceivable way. Shame on Google for not putting more care into 64-bit flash on 64-bit Chrome. It couldn't possibly be a more important deal! You can tell pepperflash and HTML 5.0 are an afterthought. It's only youtube playback quality. why would that matter to google? OMG...
    While I'm at it, I have one other issue that blows my mind. Adding command line flags in Chrome 64-bit (Canary) in Windows. Why do we have to add them through a shortcut in the "target" line? The target line runs out of space after 3 or 4 commands! I wish they would update Chrome Canary to allow for unlimited command lines to be added. It should be an option to add Command Lines on the About:Flags screen. I am so disappointed in these two glaring issues. It keeps me up at night.

  • Firefox crashes when I navigate pages on grooveshark, try to open the add-on manager, and when I visit any number of random web pages. What is wrong with it?

    Firefox never crashes immediately on startup or when I close the windows, but it crashes usually soon afterwards. It always crashes shortly after I open the add-on manager, so I can't even see which plugins I have that might be causing problems.

  • Firefox crashes when I load individual stock charts in Google Finance

    Starting about 3 weeks ago, whenever I load Google Finance and load an individual stock chart, firefox crashes. All instances of the browser crash, so it is very disruptive.
    There are certain stock charts that cause crashes more often than others, but it happens several times each day with different charts.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    I had this same problem - but I figured out that it could be fixed by removing the "technicals" (such as moving averages, etc.) from the individual charts. There is a button below the chart to turn these off - you'll probably have to let flash time out and crash before you can click it, though. Hope this works for you!

  • Firefox crashes when opening any page especially email

    Firefox has suddenly started to crash when I open up any page but especially when I click through an email. I don't have a problem when I fire up Firefox by clicking the icon in my task bar, it's only when I want to view a page in any other way.
    Does anyone know how I can fix this issue, I'm not very technically minded so step by step would be most appreciated.

    I'm not saying this crash report is bang on accurate because I had to copy it out by hand, but I did my best. There may be other crash reports but as I was only able to copy them by hand I didn't make a note of them, so when they happen again I will do so. I hope this crash report helps you solve my Mozilla issue.
    Thank you

    Hello there.
    If you're having a problem with a specific plugin, you need to contact its author for support. If you have problems with all your plugins, then it's a different matter. Is that the case?

  • IE8 Error when opening Pop-up with Flash Content

    I am running into a problem creating a webpage.  I am very new to AS3 and not quite a novice at Dw CS3.  I have audio files and flash content that is downloadable from my page.  The audio is made available by clicking on a flash button that links to an mp3 or wav file.  The player then opens and plays the file.  I also created some flash animations that are accessed by flash buttons I also created and put on my webpage.  I added scripting (AS3) for those buttons that defines a pop-up window size and points to an html page to put into the pop-up window.  I'm really not sure if this script is the most efficient.  It probably isn't. The script is below: (Note: I could not paste it in so I retyped it.  Don't know why, but the script works even though there might be syntax errors below.)
          //define variable "jscommand" that has URL to open and pop-up window parameters
    var jscommand:String="window.open('Multiplication.html,'miniwindow','height=440,width=605,toolbar=yes,scrollbar=no');";
          //define variable "openflashURL" which runs "jscommand"
    var openflashURL:URLRequest("javascript"+jscommand+"void(0);");
          //define function "openflashdown" that initiates URL request
    function openflashdown(Event:MouseEvent):void{
    NavigateToURL(openflashURL,"_self"};
          //define button listener
    Mult_FlashPlayer_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,openflashdown);
    The problem is as follows:  When I click on the flash buttons that use the above script, I get a pop-up window with the .swf in it and everything runs fine.  Next, when I click on an audio button, the mp3 file downloads and the player (Real) begins to play it.  But if I try to open up the flash animation again I get this error message from IE8 "Unspecified Error  Internet Explorer cannot download".
    I tried to find anwsers on-line and I found another person with a similar problem.  Their solution was to take the javascript code out of the flash button coding and put it in the html page directly.  I took the first line on code in the above and put it in the html code.  Dw did not recognize it as code but as text.  I don't know where to go from here.  Does anyone know what to do?  I'm a beginner so please be as clear as you can be.

    Try uninstalling your sound card driver in Device Manager and reboot your PC.
