Firefox crashes whenever I close the opened tabs. It makes my whole pc to stop working.

Whenever I open multiple tabs this problem occurs. This problem occurs especially when i close the tabs regularly.

If it freezes the computer then it sounds that there is a problem with a system driver on service that is running on the computer.
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). 
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page. 
You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

Firefox crashes when I try to open it. This has been happening for days. It began without warning and I was not aware of any changes or updates before it first happened. I tried to open in Safe Mode, without success. No Firefox updates done just before failure.

I updated Firefox to the latest release on 1/8/12. Now every time I click on a link to go to youtube, zynga or other links on Facebook, Firefox crashes. I've done a sync to my desktop. Everything else seems to work OK.
It crashes also when I scroll through Top Sites, although that seems to not happen all of the time.

When Firefox quits after I close the last tab, that last tab is *always* restored the next time I start the browser, which isn't what I want.

This has been happening over the past 10 days. I've done nothing to change Firefox and see no option under options/tabs that will solve my problem.

EDIT: You can also double check the General tab of your Options to make sure "Show my windows and tabs from last time" isn't selected.

About:newTab opens after I close the last tab instead of homepage

I use SpeedDial extension, and it's set as my homepage. Also I change setting browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false.
In Firefox 11, when I close the last tab, new tab with homepage (SpeedDial) opens, in Firefox Nightly new tab with about:newtab opens.
How can I change this behavior to act like Firefox 11?

I tried to set browser.newtabpage.enabled to false, it doesn't help.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".

When I close the last tab I am sent to my desk top and do not stay on Firefox, but if I hit the open button again it says Firefox is running??

This started this last weekend. When I close the last tab instead of staying on Firefox it goes directly to my desktop. If I hit the Firefox icon again I get a message saying that Firefox is still running and that I should restart. But if I just hit open again it reopens or shows Firefox home page again. How do I stop this?

Set the pref browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing that window, you need to use "File > Close Window" or the close X on the title bar.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
You may need to wait a bit longer before restarting Firefox.

How do I stop Firefox 31.0 from closing down when I close the only tab that I have previously opened. This has not happened before and is infuriating.

As far as I am aware this problem started with the upgrade to Firefox 31.0. If I open Firefox and look at a website and then close that website, then Firefox closes down. The same thing also happens whenever I close the last of a number of websites that I have previously opened. Previously, I could close the last website looked at and the process did not close down Firefox, merely left me with my Homepage.

Firefox 4 closes the current tab when I close the laptop - why?

I've just upgraded to firefox 4. Now when I close the laptop the open tab disappears. This never happened with the older version.

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

Firefox closes when i close the first tab of the browser using latest version 10.0 release.

I open many tabs on firefox, many times when I close the first tab, the entire window closes, and I have to reopen the browser. When I try that many times I get a message saying something like "Firefox is running Cannot open another window". When I checked the Task Manager I see firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe running. but the firefox is nowhere to be seen. Once I "End Task" these two, I can start firefox. How can I close the current tab in Firefox v 17.0.1?

I have used Firefox for years and have always used Tabs instead of opening new windows. I have always been able to click the little "X" on the right side of the tab to close it. I am finding now that I cannot close the current tab by doing this. I have to click on another open tab and then click on the other tab I wanted to close.
I have looked through the Options many times trying to see if there is a setting I need to change, but have not found anything.
Is it possible in this version of Firefox (v17.0.1) to close the current tab?

I started Firefox in SAFE MODE and the problem went away. I checked for updates and all were up to date. I then restarted Firefox and it worked fine. Since I didn't really do anything, I am curious as to why it is now working as expected. I am glad, but still curious.

1.I would like to close the last tab without closing the app. The behaviour I expect is the app to open a new blank tab when I close the last tab. Currently I cannot close the last tab which already has some website opened in it.
2. When I open a new tab, i'm forced to enter a website address. I expect to the app to simply open a blank new tab & leave it to me whether to enter a address or not.

well, I would prefer to leave it to the end user whether he wants the awesome screen while pressing a new tab button/ or open a simple blank page. Let him choose it in the config.
