Firefox crashes with a big noise

I recently bought a Mac with a 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. It has happened to me, when working with Firefox, that suddenly I hear a big scratching noise coming from the speakers, the cursor freezes, and the computer stops responding. When I get back to Firefox and open it again (after shutting down the computer) sometimes a message appears asking me to choose witch tabs should be closed since it was one of them the cause for the sudden shutting down. This happened a few times and I can't find any pattern except for the fact that there was always some kind of file transfer process. For example, in two of the times I was listening to online radio stations. Two other times I was uploading files through a file delivery site.
What may the problem be?
Thank you!
Joao

I think I fixed it! run command prompt as administrator and put in these two commands, then restart.
netsh i i r r
netsh winsock reset catalog
this will clear any old data in the system. I did it and have been running good so far for two days.

  • Firefox crashed with no dialog box, none of my tabs were restored.

Firefox crashed with no dialog box. It just stopped responding and disappeared. When I re-opened it, none of my tabs were restored - just my homepage. I had about 10-15 active tabs that I was working on. I'm not too concerned about the crash, but I AM concerned about restoring my lost tabs. Some are old tabs (ie, months old but I still use them and go back to them), so I'd be digging through months of histry trying to find them or remember what they were.

  • Newest update to Firefox Crashes with BEX error code

Updated Firefox to newest version. Upon restarting Firefox it crashes with BEX error code. Deactivated all anti-spyware, removed all traces of Firefox and did a new re-install, and tried to open in Safe Mode but it still crashes upon start with same error code. (Firefox only runs on initial install but upon restart always crashes) Attempted to find an older version of firefox but can not find older version. I do not see any help related to the severity of my crashes. How do you fix the BEX crash?

When you started in Safe Mode*, did you get the Safe Mode dialog or Firefox never got that far? Did you ever get to your home page?
BEX = Buffer Overflow Exception or Data Execution Prevention (DEP) exception. DEP is a security feature that seeks to prevent exploits that inject program code into Windows memory. Firefox doesn't trigger this error on its own, but add-ons or external programs that tweak Firefox might.
Are you using any special configurations to run Firefox, such as virtual machines or sandboxing?
If not, it sound suspicious. You may want to run some supplemental scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

  • Firefox crashes with NVidia 331.20 (Linux 64bit)

As the title says, Firefox crashes immediately upon opening when using NVidia's latest stable drivers (331.20). The last stable driver that Firefox works with is 319.60. This issue only afflicts Firefox. All other HW accelerated programs I've tried work. Anybody have any ideas on a solution?

mats_b_tegner's reply sort of solved the issue. I'm going to try to patch and compile Firefox as the current NVidia drivers provide needed functionality. Hopefully the devs will see fit to include the patch in future releases.

  • Firefox crashes with an empty folder

Every time firefox crashes, it creats an empty folder in $HOME directory. Anybody has a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

    What is the folder called?
Google doesn't report any similar bugs...
My FF from default repos v3.5.4 doesn't create any folders.  Try 'pacman -Syu to upgrade to latest and greatest version'.
It crashing at all is a problem.  Can you reproduce crashes consistently (there is currently a problem with bookmarking).
If the up-to-date version still has this problem, please submit a bug report to ArchBugs @ [urk]bugs.archlinux.org[/url] or the upstream mozilla bug tracker @ bugzilla.mozilla.org

  • Firefox crashes with Knowledgebase Manager Pro

On a certain view in Knowledgebase Manager Pro (unfortunately you have to be logged in to the system to get to this view), Firefox version 10.0+ and now 11.0 crashes when trying to display the page. Have re-installed version 9.0, and Firefox is stable in this view. Please can you suggest how I can simulate the conditions for you (will not be allowed to send you login details for Knowledgebase).
This also happens on other users' computers (running Win 7).

Ok, let's try a few things here:
Please read [[Firefox crashes|Firefox crashes]], which has some troubleshooting methods to determine what might be causing the crash and how to work around it.
Update your graphics driver. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
And, read through the [[Basic Troubleshooting|Basic Troubleshooting]] guide. Let me know if any of this helped you out a bit.

  • Firefox crash with Shockwave plugin

I recently switched to Firefox since am having much troubles with G Chrome, The problem is that when my Shockwave Plug in is enabled, Firefox Freezes when it's loading a page, untill i disabled Shockwave and it doesn't freeze anymore but i can't do anything that needs Shockwave to run since it's disabled, i have tried restoring and everything, can someone help me please?

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash update and/or a malfunctioning browser plugin such as Real Player.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
    * [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]

  • Firefox crashes with error message: "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working"

When I open Firefox it seems to be working fine for one minute, then everything freezes and I receive the following error message:
"Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working
--> Check online for a solution and close the program
    --> Close the Program"
Neither option restores Firefox and I'm left with a frozen (white blurry Not Responding) screen. When I click on the X button, then I get the regular "Firefox is not responding" message and the whole program just shuts down.
Should I disable all plugins and / or this plugin container? How can I do that, if Firefox keeps crashing?
Basically, how can I fix this? Thanks a lot!

I found the issue was with the Nik Filters I was using. The filters were messing with Photoshop's initializing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the filters and now Photoshop works like a charm.
It appears this forum is dead?!
Thankfully, I was able to troubleshoot on my own and figured out the problem...
