Firefox crashing at random moments

Since I have been experience increasingly common crashes when using Firefox, I recently reset Firefox in hopes that my problems would be solved. However, I am experiencing browser crashes in random situations, such as it crashing in the middle of watching a video, crashing while loading a website, and even crashing when I maximize the window. These crashes are really problematic, since they tend to slow down my entire computer when they occur. I have been trying to use different programs and add-ons to minimize CPU usage for Firefox, such as Firemin and Memory Fox, and I have also been trying to watch YouTube videos with HTML5 instead of the regular Flash player, but my computer is still notifying me of high disk usage from Firefox. If there are any suggestions you could give me to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you have a slow internet connection then you most likely won't notice any difference in performance.
Note that the crash report seem to be from August (Date Processed: 2013-08-29), so they may not be from the last few days.
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

    Ok, i change drivers to xf86-video-ati and also xorg to version 1.12. Everything seems to work fine, but now my graphic card is very hot.
    It's a very big difference: 60 degrees for fglrx and 85 for open drivers. Very strange, temperature is much higher, but fan is much louder even if xorg is not running
    I have to wait for new fglrx drivers...
    Thanks

  • Firefox crashing and randomly closing itself..

    Since last night, I've noticed that Firefox has randomly started closing at random points - it's not particular with any one website or anything, it just keeps either crashing or just randomly closing itself - and not allowing me to open up another browser until I end the process using Task Manager.
    I was using an older version of the browser up until about an half an hour or so ago - I updated, hoping that it would fix the problem but have had no luck. I also tried running safe mode but the crashes occurred then too.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox hangs at random moments and uses 25% of the CPU (one core)

    Hello,
    On random websites and moments, I notice Firefox using 25%CPU. I have 4 cores. I don't know what's causing it, and it is pretty annoying. It just hangs and becomes unresponsive for about ~ 30-45 seconds. After that it happily continues without problems. It doesn't actually crash, it only hangs.
    I think it's something with an extension that's causing it. I have this as well on my laptop, that has Hyperthreading. (this PC doesn't) - On the laptop it uses 13% CPU when the same issue appears.
    I have Firefox 5 fully updated. Addons I use:
    Ghostery
    Adblock Plus
    HTTPS Everywhere
    WOT (Web of Trust)
    I use on both computers Windows 7 Professional. One of them is English, the other Dutch. Both legal and with all updates.
    I also have the Flash and Silverlight plugin, up-to-date.
    If there's any other information you need please let me know. Would like to have the issue resolved :)
    Thanks,
    Niels

    Nope - no fix yet :( I have installed a few new addons though: HTTPSEverywhere, Ghostery and NoScript. I'm not sure which one is causing it, but one of them caused the problem to drastically reduce. I have it once a month now, maybe.. Before that I had it multiple times a day.
    It's probably Ghostery or Noscript fixing it, due to the things they forbid from loading :)

  • Firefox crashes at random times

    Hey, over the past couple of months Firefox for Windows (8.1) has been crashing more and more. There's no obvious reason for it that I can detect.
    I'll just be browsing the Internet, reading an article or something and then it will suddenly just freeze. I'm not even able to ctrl-alt-del to shut it down manually, Firefox just freezes on me, and it's clear that it's struggling to process something as it occasionally will flicker a little as though it's trying hard, but it just stops. There's an outside chance it's my computer in general to blame, but it only ever seems to happen when I have Firefox open (and I don't always have Firefox open).
    I have the most up-to-date version (37.0.2). Here's a few of the most recent crash logs:
    bp-b5e763f2-f2a6-4b35-8856-f3e112150424
    bp-f5b4bea4-9ec5-48ac-b70d-ece952150423
    49a5259d-42b9-48cd-bf94-bc46695d3571
    0042f953-ec91-4fed-90da-2a2e9e3b6aab
    Most of these logs mean nothing to me, so happy for one of you smart guys to parse this for me. Thanks.

    The only other situations I can find with this exact crash reason were problems with the computer itself or video drivers and not Firefox. This could be a corrupt RAM issue or a corrupt file system. It could also be a video card bug, since the crash is actually happening in the UI part of the program.
    I would try 1. Testing your RAM, 2. Doing a file system check, and 3. Updating graphics drivers.
    If any issues are found during any of those steps, I would fix the issue and then fully uninstall and re-install Firefox after fixing the issue.

  • Firefox crashes randomly even with all extensions disabled and new profile, but not in safe mode

    Starting from about 2 weeks ago, Firefox has been crashing. The crashes is seemingly random, but normally happens when many pages/tabs are open. Also, all observed crashes happened in middle of some user operations. If I just leave it open(and loaded), it would never crash even after a long time.
    Also, the crashes would still happen even after ALL extensions are disabled manually. However it doesn't seem to happen in Safe Mode.
    After every crash, in the crash report dialog, the "Details" report would not respond. However I can open the reports using about:crashes.
    Before the crash would happen, sometimes the following ill-behaviors could be observed:
    * Firefox fails to render CJK characters, displaying them as square boxes instead
    * CJK IME(Namely Google Pinyin, an IME for Simplified Chinese) could no longer be activated in Firefox, neither on a webpage element nor on UIs of Firefox itself(i.e. address bar or search bar)
    The following has been tried but no luck:
    * Disable ALL extensions manually
    * Start a new profile
    * Reset Firefox
    * Uninstall/Reinstall Firefox
    * Switch from FX 14 to 15, then to 16 beta

    hello Rainarrow, some other users who have recently updated the graphics driver for their ati hardware (to ati catalyst version 12.8) have reported similar crashes. please try disabling hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this resolves the issue of frequent crashes for the moment.

  • Firefox is crashing at random times, sometimes pointing to plugin-container.

    I typically have Firefox running all the time. Recently it has been crashing at random times. Some of the crashes leave messages saying that plugin-container has crashed. Some are reported and leave behind a record in about:crashes, but in other cases the program just dies.
    I tried to locate the crash reports online but could not. It says it's searching and then says "Oh Noes"...
    I've updated to 3.6.13, the latest Java. I often run other browsers as well (Chrome, IE) for certain tasks. Can those interfere with Firefox???

    It looks like the Crash Reports server is overloaded right now and "times out" with that '''''Oh Noes!''''' message.
    Try disabling the Java Quick Start extension, and maybe the McAfee Site Advisor extensions. Two other extensions that are known to be problematic in Firefox are already disabled.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions
    Other browsers shouldn't affect Firefox or cause it to crash, even if they are running at the same time as Firefox - unless you are maxing out your RAM or CPU. I have had 4 different version of Firefox running simultaneously, along with 5 or 6 other browsers on a fairly basic AMD 2.2 GHz processor with 2 GB of RAM, on WinXP - without problems or Firefox crashing.

  • Firefox crashes upon opening, and randomly - Windows XP.

    What I'm experiencing is that FireFox crashes upon most start-ups. it also crashes randomly. Be it known, it has been doing this in safemode, too. It has been doing this before any plugins were installed, and it has been doing it since FireFox 12 or FireFox 13.
    Oddly enough, my folder for where the crash reports SHOULD go is completely empty.
    Current version: 22.0
    What should I do from here?

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • I just had my FireFox updated after a major crash with at least over 80 tabs in 2 windows total, which it worked fine before crashing, but now my bowser crashes at random clicks on avrious websites & small group reloads. What is wrong and can it be fix?

    The tabs I had were at YouTube, DeviantART, and other websites that are picture sites, or just image heavy. I usually leave my browser open while my laptop is in hibernation mode, as to try to avoid closing them as I tend to build up tabs and it would be a pain to wait and load everything. This has cause some crashes in the past, but those were less frequent than what I am experiencing now after the latest update. My browser seems to act more frail after that big crash I had. I did tried to reload my windows in tab, while cutting off the wireless so it wouldn't be too big of rush of loadtime, but it still crashed and does it constantly now. I can barely watch a 10-minute video or any multi task without the browser just crashing at random loads or clicks. Also, I notice whenever I write comments on Youtube, the browser lags and sometimes freezes.
    It works better after I restart my computer, but that' s only a temporary fix.
