Firefox crashing before it opens

It has been constantly crashing before it even opens. I have been a FF user for years and I would hate to have to go back to IE or Chrome.

Any help would be great.

You may have to try other malware scanning programs as well.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

When I try to run Firefox I get a screen saying that it has crashed. Firefox won't open at all. I installed the newest version because I thought it might be a problem with the older version I was running but I still received the same crash notification and Firefox still won't open.

Sounds that you may have caught some malware (efcaby.dll and effeef.dll).

  • Firefox crashes before even opening

Whenever I go to open Firefox, a "Mozilla Crash Reporter" appears. The only two options available to me from there are to close the window, restart Firefox, or quit Firefox. If I "restart Firefox," the window just pops up again. If I quit, the window merely closes. I tried restarting my computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I'm not especially computer savvy and don't know where to go from here.
    Thank you for your help!

That is a problem with the lvprcinj01.dll file that is part of the Logitech QuickCam software.

I updated my firefox to the latest 3.6.6. Unfortunately, it crashes before it opens. Why? It would not even give me a crash ID number because it never opens at all. The older version of firefox works though.

    Hello.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start
In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

  • Why does Firefox crash when I open Adobe, Firefox & all plug ins including Adobe are up to date and current, WHY?

Firefox crashes when I open Adobe (pdf) ALL plug ins are up to date as is FF

This is a known issue with Adobe Reader, and it depends on Adobe updating their plugin.
Whilst you're waiting for Adobe to fix their plugin, you can disable it and fallback to the default PDF reader in Firefox by following these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

  • FireFox crashes immediately without opening on several users PCs since last week, how do I resolve?

    Hi
we have several users using Firefox (varies from v15 to v19) in Windows XP SP3, who have started experiencing Firefox crashes before the app actually starts. Here are a selection of crash IDs:
    bp-02dd0e2b-fc51-42e6-94d3-e54a62130320
    bp-6a57380e-6fc4-467d-9c4a-f95c52130320

    bp-a64a4507-d3e1-44a1-8958-5025e2130320
I've tried uninstalling (including manually deleting the user profile), restarting and reinstalling. The crash occurs no mater who's logged in and in safe mode as well.
    Any ideas?

    Check for malware also.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Light Room crashing before it opens

Every time I try and launch LR5 it crashes before opening. This just started happening this week. Both PS and Br are working fine. I am on a Dell machine running Windows 8.1 and have 16gb ram. Any ideas how to cure this issue?
    Thanks
    gene

Further information; When LR starts to open it looks like thee is an error message---it doesn't stay long enough for me to read it completely but I think it is saying something about a problem with the preview cache but it closes before I can tell for sure. My going to the lrcat folder and working backwards I have been able to get LR to open and am now reimporting my 2014 images (luckily we are only a couple months into the year) and will see if that works.

  • I changed Java settings and now Firefox crashes as it opens, even in safe mode; how can I fix this?

I was trying to change settings to access the comments section of Slate.com. Right or wrong, I changed a Java setting from -1 to 2. The setting was in about:config and I believe it involved some sort of max. As I cannot open anything, I am not sure.
When I made the change, firefox crashed immediately, Every time I have tried to reopen, even in safe mode, it immediately crashes again and will not reopen.

    Hi pternagy,
    Sorry you are having problems.
For future reference. Those of us that mess directly with about:config soon learn how to recover from mistakes and what it is sensible to backup. Occasionally backing up your entire profile for instance can be useful and would have probably given you a quick solution of copying over the file from that backup.
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
Ok on to the subject of trying to get Firefox back as it was:
Find your profile and the file ''prefs.js'' and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your preferences to the default. You can then re open and use Firefox. Next try to get it back to normal.
Trying to manually edit the file ''prefs.js'' is normally a bad idea. However if it is a single pref change it may be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (whilst Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before . You have the renamed file to work with. Probably best to test all this out in a new additional profile then you only break additional test profiles not working profiles essential to Firefox.
    These articles should help you:

  • Firefox crashes immediately upon opening

I have attempted launching FireFox in "Safe Mode" though it still crashes/will not open in.
Before this it would not open at all, no crash report's, no nothing. Then I reset my computer to a prevous update version. And now it gives me a crash report.
(I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox and it still will not open, and I am no longer getting crash reports)

    Hi,
You can try to clean install a fresh copy after uninstalling the present version via Windows Control Panel '''Programs and Features'''. While uninstalling make sure to choose deleting the preferences and folders. Please also see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/916668#answer-305338 this] regarding problems with security software.
To backup important info which can be restored later, please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s this.] Some of the important files could be '''places.sqlite''' which holds the bookmarks and history, '''key3.db''' + '''signons.sqlite''' which are needed to restore the saved passwords etc.

Since updating to the new Firefox 18.0.1 every time I try to close a few open windows Firefox crashes. I would be reading my mail and after having about 10 open windows I go and check on the X to close the windows. I can close about five to seven of them with no problem but when I have about three of them left Firefox crashes. It is very annoying. I used the Firefox Safe Mode feature and this problem does not happen while in Safe Mode. I don't know what the next step is to fix this problem. Could you please help. Thank you
