Firefox crashing on scripts

I have Firefox and it is locking up, freezing and crashing when I open it. Non responsive scripts. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Disabled graphics accelerator, Reset to default through Firefox troubleshooting information.. IT still is not working. Never had a problem like this on other computers. I only have java and adobe installed and all up to date. Still does it in safe mode also. What steps can I take to resolve this issue.
Thanks for any help

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

• How to solve firefox crashing and continuous "unresponsive script" messages?

I've had this issue for a couple days now. When in firefox and having multiple tabs open, the tab that I am on will freeze and an "unresponsive script" message will come up. When I only have one tab open, the browser will shut down completely without any message. I have already tried disabling all of my plugins, allowing the script to run longer, restarting firefox, and even uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. None of these seem to work for me. Does this mean I have a virus? Are there any other things I can try or should I have this looked at?

Try this for your mac computer:
Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.
#(OS X 10.6 or previous) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.<br>(OS X 10.7 or above) Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
#Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.
Thanks in advance!
You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Firefox crashes article.

#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

Also, your description of the problem is too vague and is most likely caused by an extension. Please do the following:
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

• Firefox crashing when closing tab -- no Norton

I've got an old version of Firefox, as it's the only version that works in tandem with Greasemonkey for a script I need for work. I've never had any problems with it, and I've been using it for years.
All of a sudden, the last few days, Firefox crashes whenever I close the tab that my Greasemonkey script opens. This tab is just a simple local file, a flash alert beep that opens. When I close it, Firefox crashes. It's never done this before. I've had this version of Firefox on my computer for years, as I said, and it's only recently that this has started to happen.
I don't have Norton antivirus. I have Avast. I have disabled Avast's Web Reputation Plugin, in case it was that, but that didn't help.
Firefox 3.0.19 (Yes, it's an old build, but, again, as I said, I have had no problems with it.)
Windows 7 SP1 (32 bit)

Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi, ideato. Thanks. I have tried updating before, but unfortunately any FF version beyond 3.x.x breaks my Greasemonkey script. And I know what you're saying, that my version is old, but the point is, it's been working perfectly on my machine for years. This problem has suddenly just appeared recently. So it isn't some old, unsupported bug, but a recent issue on my machine that I can't figure out.
If I could just know from the crash report if there's some conflict or the like that's causing this, then I could uninstall the offending program/process/add-on.

I turned off plugins, and the problem kept happening.
After fiddling around with NoScript, I found evidence of what I expected. The host's own script was causing the trouble. With some more investigation and maybe firebug I can look for the offending script...

• Firefox crashes immediately when I click on the icon

On 9/21/2011 firefox worked fine. On 9/22/2011 when I clicked on the firefox icon I immediately got the mozilla crash report. In firefox help, under firefox crashes I have followed the steps listed:
Update Firefox
Update your plugins
Update Windows
Update your drivers
Update your Internet Security software
Check for viruses or spyware
Check to see if the crash happens in safe mode
The crash still happens in Safe Mode
The crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode
Get help fixing this crash
None of these steps have helped.
Firefox does crash in safe mode.

There are quite a few reports with that crash signature:
*Crash Reports in nsSimpleURI::SchemeIs(char const*, int*)
Look like a problem with running JavaScript.
Does it happen on specific pages?
Does it help if you disable the JavaScript JIT compiler temporarily as a test?
Try to set these two prefs to false on the about:config page to disable the JavaScript JIT compiler for scripts on web pages.
javascript.options.methodjit.content
javascript.options.tracejit.content
If you still see the crashes then do the same with these two for Chrome content (browser and extensions):
javascript.options.methodjit.chrome
javascript.options.tracejit.chrome
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

• Firefox crashes when i clear recent history if multiple tabs are open, is anyone else experiencing this?

Firefox crashes (hangs, requires me to force close, and then doesn't actually clear the history) when i clear recent history if multiple tabs are open, i do this so i only lose the history and can maintain the tabs i want for the next session.
I have always done this in Versions 3 without an issue, since moving to Version 4 it happens semi regularly. the more tabs i have open the higher the likelyhood of an error

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• Firefox crashes every time I launch it making the program unopenable

At first firefox 4 was fine for about a couple of months then I notcied it crashing all the time, about 30% of the time I open a new tab or page it would crash.
Now when I opend firefox I get a crash report before the browser has even opened, even if I open a link in outlook it crashes right away. Perhaps it is openeing a page I had open that it just constantly crashes on or maybe the program crashes upon any open page, I am not sure.
Give me back firefox 3.0 :( (I was forced to post this using IE it is a sad day)

Hello,
Unfortunately, I am not able to pull up the crash reports but try safe mode:
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
