Firefox deletes my AOL Mail messages without allowing me to read them, giving me a search box instead of the message. I have to access this mail through IE, but IE crashes frequently.

You may be missing a font, or your font cache may have been corrupted. Re-boot in Safe Mode

Maybe the document is corrupted. Can you open other Pages documents? Preview may open it. Right click (or control click) on the document in Finder and Open With > Preview.
If that works, Edit > Select All, Edit > Copy. Then paste into a blank Pages document. Formatting may be messed up, but you will have editable text. Then Save (with a different name), close and see if you can open the new document.

How do I delete large quantities of e-mails without clicking each individual one?

I am away from my desk , sometimes for days at a time. I easily received 50+ e-mails a day, and if I don't have time to just sit and individually go through and delete each one I don't need, it builds up to crazy numbers....I am currently at over 10,000 unread messages. I would like to be able to "select all" then simply click on the e-mails I want to keep...there will be a lot less clicking if I can do that. How might I make this happen? Thank you

I have never used message filters....to be terribly honest, I really didn't know they existed. I have never marked junk. I used to just delete as it came in...but lately I am not at my desk as much as I used to be, and my lack of attention to the list has exploded in this huge number of e-mails...and you are right, I am missing e-mails I should be seeing.
Unfortunately, my job requires that I receive many e-mails from different people that might not be folks I would have in my address book.
So, I am able to "select all" but I would like to then remove from the blanket those e-mails I want to keep. I still can't figure out how to do that.
Your surprise at my lack of e-mail skill is a little embarrassing but also amusing... :-)

I did nothing to change them, but after the event tried to change them using "preferences-Fonts"which had no effect. ATT seems to have made a change in their email. Jim, extensions are also add-ons. Add-ons include extensions, themes and plugins.
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you need to make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

I have upgraded from firefox 4 to firefox 5 and now it crashes and will not open at all just produces an error box to submit the fault. I have submitted and now cannot use firefox at all cannot open it cannot use it cannot do anything with it.

I wish I could go back to version 4.

I have this problem with Firefox 5.0 too. You are forced to reboot when access to 5.0 is denied. I had so many problems with 4.0 as well. I am so tired of the crashes and seeing that popup window to send your comments, it is ridiculous. I also find in 5.0 that mouse controls are fruitless and sometimes take over. The pages will jump forward or back, the pull down menus do not function, clicking boxes in online email don't work and pages will zoom in or out by themselves. I have three computers with different operating systems that this happens with. All these updates by programmers are crap. I thought I set firefox to not update automatically, since updates seem to be worse than the previous version, but it happens anyway. I will surf for an older version or switch to something else. Too bad because after 10+ years, they are losing my loyalty.

Firefox closes ALL tabs & exits when I ONLY close the AOL Mail tab.

When I have maybe 5 or 6 tabs open, and I am done with my AOL mail tab and close it ONLY, the entire window with all of my pages close out. My system is set to recover the last tabs I had open, but when I reopen Firefox (I have to manually, the system does not even restart it), everything is gone. I tried opening AOL mail in another separate window, and this still happens (when I close out the AOL page only). I checked my updates and Firefox is the newest. I run both my security software programs 2 times per day, along with STOPzilla. It clears cookies and I have never had an issue until this past week. I have not downloaded anything new. All is fine as long as I do not open AOL mail. Thinking this was an AOL issue, I contacted them, and they assure me that it must be my issue (of course). I then removed and deleted the Firefox program and re-downloaded it....still no help.
I am using the latest AOL mail, and cannot help but wonder if there is something in that which causes me to lose everything. It's frustrating because none of my tabs are kept, even though I have it set to caution me before the Firefox window is closed, and remember my tabs for "next time."

Cannot access firefox. Error message "your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It maybe missing or inaccessible"

This ocurred on my Dell Laptop, it seems, after several reset Firefox to Default. My Dell is an Inspriron/8600. I have removed Firefox and reloaded twice. What should Ido next.

Hi Bernard, normally, when doing a Reset, Firefox moves your old profile folder to the desktop (in a folder named Old Firefox Data), creates a new profile folder incorporating some of the data from your old profile, and updates a configuration file with the new profile folder name. It sounds as though this broke down somewhere along the way. Let's see whether it was that third step.
In order to ease the next few steps, please make sure that you can view hidden files and folders. This article has the steps:

To open your Firefox data folder, you can type or paste the following into either the Start menu Run box, Search box, or into the address bar of a Windows Explorer/My Computer window:

In the folder that loads, you should see a Profiles folder and a file named profiles.ini (it's a text file you can edit with Notepad).
Click into the Profiles folder to see whether you can find a semi-randomly-named folder. If you find it, click into it to confirm that it contains some files and isn't empty. If there is stuff there, let's work with it. Up in the address bar of Windows Explorer, select and copy the semi-random name of the folder, or you can make a note of it somewhere.
Return back up to the Firefox folder. Right-click>Edit the profiles.ini file and it should open in Notepad. You should see something like the following:

Path=Profiles/'''asdf1234.default'''
Default=1
The part of Path after Profiles/ needs to match the name of the folder you copied or noted earlier. Go ahead and fix it and save the file.
Then try to start Firefox again. Any luck?

How to default to my aol mail

I use aol.com mail....but when I am in other websites and try to send a email it defaults to safari mail and will not send even when I select their server...formerly you ask for my password and then send mail....but not now. How do I set the default?

I am new to apple and am still working myself through the program...the mail icon pulls up my aol incoming and out going mail. I did solve the problem when I would send mail from another site...safari would open an email window...not my aol mail window and I could not sent because it would not default to the aol smtp. I went to mail preferences .. accounts and checked incoming mail account and outgoing mail account and found the error...I had not completed the account name and password for the aol outgoing smtp. I filled in the information and it works properly now. I understand that you don't call it safari mail for some reason but I can send and receive there and find it a valuable backup for my aol mail and it is a quicker read than my aol mail. Anyone have any fixes for abode flash player invading viewing on many streaming video sites? It seems the latest version won't allowing viewing on most sites without allowing them to track me. I realize it may be the site doing this but it didn't start happening until I downloaded the most recent adobe version this morning.

What do you mean by "allowing tracking" -- is the problem that you can't disable local storage objects (LSOs, also sometimes called supercookies)??
By the way, you probably should remove the extension "Updated Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+" because Adblock Plus is now much more up-to-date and having them both do overlapping things will make blocked content problems much harder to sort out.
You can manage extension on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Command+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.

Firefox always opens with a search box rather than my homepage.

i ran into a simuler problem using firefox 4 with win 7. browser would not display web address and when you open the browser it would display a blank page. also back, forward, and refresh button's where grayed out and could not click hem.
after checking plugins i was able to get it working with disableing java deployment toolkit.

When I use the Norton Safe Search box in Firefox 3.6.19 the letters that I type group together and disappear behind the search button at the end of Norton Safe Search....any help?

I don't know how much more I can add...However, when I type in the Norton Safe Search box up to the search button in Norton Safe Search I can continue to type but I can't see what is being typed because it doesn't allow me to see the trailing end of what I'm typing. This along with the fact that the letters and words don't always automatically advance a space, they group together as I'm typing and I have to stop, provide a space and continue once again. This only happens in Mozilla Firefox, I'm using Firefox 3.6.19. This doesn't happen in the Norton Safe Search Box in Internet Explorer

Maybe another extension that you have installed is causing that problem with that Norton Safe Search add-on.

Disable all other extensions and see if Norton works correctly. 
I so, start enabling extensions one at a time until you find the culprit.
If not, create a new Profile and verify that Norton is the only extension that appears in the new Profile and see if it works correctly.

ICal sync- alert says will delete all past entries- Yes, I have my Keep Appointments set to "forever" AND I've tried changing the date range in desktop mgr- HELP

I just did the update for the software on the 8530. This is a new problem since the update. I cannot lose my old entries, so I am unable to sync at all now until Blackberry addresses this bug.
I have read through all of the "fixes" but none of them work.
My Keep Appointments setting has always (and I verified is still) set to "forever"
I went into the advance settings on the MAC desktop software from Blackberry and tried changing the date range to the suggested 14 days past and 365 days future. I even tried changing the past days parameter to "1" in hopes it would simply ignore old entries... It still wants to delete 435 past entries.
I have to keep these.
Help, Blackberry! Your "update" to the software is overriding my settings and has made the sync function unusable.

Thanks for the reply. I unchecked all calendars in iCal and synced and it still gave me the same notice. So then I went into the iTunes window and checked the sync only certain calendars box (instead of the all calendars box) and left all the calendars unchecked and clicked apply but when I click on sync it automatically reverts to all calendars.
When you say you unchecked all calendars did you mean in iCal? And what did you have your iCal settings at in your iTunes sync window?

So I tried to restore my system to 2 weeks ago using the Leopard install DVD and my Time Machine back-up and my MBP won't boot from the DVD at all. Just a gray scree, no gear, logo, or anything.
