My guess is that someone was trying to protect the system properties and then they wanted to add on the top of that. Thus they came up with that idea.Yeah, I was thinking that too. I bet you are right.
But Properties exposes no API to restore defaults to the current instance. If some key/value gets "overwritten" by a put in the current instance, shadowing a key/value in defaults, there is no way to bring the default value back to the foreground except by deleting key (and thus restoring visibility to defaults).Err...although true I doubt it is relevant.
Consider.
1. Something grabbed a property value before you did anything. Nothing you do will change that. I suspect most VM stuff works this way.
2. Something grabbed the properties and kept a reference. Nothing you do will change that.
3. You changed it, so why would you want the other value?
4. Deleting it does restore it.
Given the above what situation from that do you think is relevant to your question? Or is there some other situation that you are considering?

    "Hi,
    ·        Is the computer on a domain?

    Try the steps below and check if it helps.
    Step 1:
    Run the software setup file as an administrator and check if it helps.
    a. Right click on the setup file of the software that you are trying to install.
    b. Select “Run as administrator”.
    Step 2:
    Temporarily disable the antivirus software running on the computer and check if you are able to install the software.

If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. When I access a windows files server with the mac I am adding .apple (hidden files). How can I prevent this?

    Look for a program called BlueHarvest. I'm not sure if it still works with Mountain Lion.
    I believe your file server can be set up to handle the metadata files, but I suppose that would depend on the Server software and your IT staff.

    Despite ticking the box "remove all website data", when I reset Safari not  all stored cookies are eliminated. How can I overcome the problem? Or is it a bug?

    I have done a little experimenting: 1-close all open windows (I found that I had to do this step in order to keep Safari from hanging-will be explained later). 2: Remove all data in Prefs. 3: Immediately close the prefs window (no window should be open at this point) and quit Safari. Try to complete step 3 fast as possible; I have it down to a few seconds. The reason I urge you to close all windows is that Safari hangs until forced to quit upon immediately quitting after removing cookies. I think the auto page reload in Lion is the cause of these hiccups but I can't be sure about that. The hasty quit I found is crucial to success. Don't know why that is but it could prevent the data from re-populating. A quick flush, if you will.  Hit me back if you need any of my suggestions clarified; a bit wordy, I know

    In the past, when I updated iTunes, some items would be 'lost'. I quit updating, still running 10.6. I do keep my files on an external hard drive, which I plug in before starting iTunes. If I leave the drive off, and update, would that keep me from losing any files? Also, does anyone know how to search the iTunes store by price? I'm particularly interested in movies and audiobooks... Thanks

    iTunes does not have provision for automatically storing one kind of media on a separate drive, so you have some basic decisions to make first.  Do you want these movies to still appear in your iTunes library, or are you content with browsing filenames on a drive in Finder when you want to look for one?  The second's the easiest thing because then you don't have to have an external drive permanently turned on and attached to your computer (wired or wireless).  To do that you literelly only need to drag your movies folder to an archive drive and delete movies from iTunes.  To watch them again you can add it back to iTunes while holding down the option key so the movie is used from its location on the external drive.
    There's ways to move the movies to an external drive while keeping them in iTunes but the external drive iwll always have to be turned on and connected to the computer or you will see a bunch of broken link exclamation marks.
    Realize what you are talking about is not "backup".  Backup (which you should do) is putting a second or more copy of items on external drives for the day when your internal drive fails and everything on it is lost, inclduing all your home photos and perhaps things that have been pulled from the iTunes Store and can no longer be re-downloaded.

  • All of a sudded, my firefox browser isnt allowing my to click links and open pages, or open anything on the top area of the screen.

    All of a sudded, my firefox browser isnt allowing my to click links and open pages, or open anything on the top area of the screen. For example i go to my email and i cant click on inbox, send, create, folders, mark as unread. It is like this on every website?? Its really annoying i cant do anything becasue most sites have login at the top of the screen and i cant login to anything.

    That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

    Hi John
    I love administrators as much as the next guy, not!!
    Seriously though, this is a community forum for Captivate, another
    Adobe product, so I don't think we can be of much use here.
    However, I would suggest talking to your systems administrator to
    change your settings to allow the Reader update as this can only be
    done on your side and not from anywhere else.
    Cheers

    Windows right?
    Likely your not the administor any more, the botnet is.
    Check on this site really quick if your part of a botnet
    http://botnetchecker.com/
    All clear? Hopefully. Backup your files to a external drive, cd or dvd, USB keye etc off your computer.
    Run the sfx file on this site and it will burn to a cd.
    http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-rescue-system
    Next hit your BIO's key and set the cd to boot first, run the scanner and see what it pops up.
    If your all clear then create another Admin, transfer your files over from the first Admin.
    See if that works, eventually when your totally over to the new Admin, delete the old one.
    If you can't create a new Admin, find out who locked your machine down, like your parents or it's a school computer?
    Likely installed spyware or "nanyware" to watch you.
    Hope that works.

  • I'm trying to download Flash Player to my Macbook, and it keeps on stopping in the midst of downloading and saying "you need to quit safari" even though all of my Safari windows are closed, what do I do?

    Thanks for any help

    Cofeebean wrote:

    Keep in mind that on the Mac, even if you close all windows of an application, the application itself may still be running with no windows open. If you have closed all Safari windows, look at the Dock to see if there is a glowing dot under the Safari icon. If there is a dot, Safari is still running, so click the Dock icon and then choose Safari/Quit Safari.
    As an alternative to looking for the dot under an application in the Dock, I often use the Command-Tab keyboard shortcut to display the Application Switcher so I can see which applications are still open.
    You don't have to open Activity Monitor to quit a program unless there really is no way to way to do it from the normal interface.
    The only applications that quit when you close the window are the ones that only have one window, like System Preferences.

  • The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation

    when installing itunes on mums sony vaio with vista home edition. a message saying "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" pops up not allowing the installation to continue. had a quick look on other forums and the general concensus is that the settings that need changing are deep in the technical parts of the computer which im not prepared to go to. has anyone else had any problems like this and is there an easy way to fix it!?

    We might as well try something fairly simple, just in case.
    Download a fresh copy of the itunes installer to the Vaio's hard drive. (Don't run the install online.)
    Latest iTunes Installer
    Now start the install by right-clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe file and selecting "run as administrator".
    Does that install go through any easier?

    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Ejemplo extends JPanel {
         public static void main (String [] args) {
              JFrame frame = new JFrame ("Ejemplo");

              frame.getContentPane().add(jl);

              frame.setVisible(true);
    But that can be then closes the window in my previous project?
