Firefox didn't remember my tabs upon shutting down

I downloaded the newest firefox when prompted. Shut down my computer, but firefox did not ask me to save my tabs, like it used to. Got home, turned on the computer...no saved tabs. Annoying! I want my old ff back! I don't like the new layout, either.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Another possibility is to use:<br />
*Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"<br />
Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

• Saving tabs upon shutting down Firefox so they will open again when Firefox gets launched

On the previous version of Firefox, the possibility existed to save the tabs you were using so that they could open up automatically next time you started up Firefox.
This feature is great & i suppose it still exists, but it seems i can't find it (or maybe i have conflicting parameters). Could you help me please ?

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• Firefox won't remember the tabs from when I closed it out last.

I signed out of my laptop to go and do something else, and when i rebooted it, and clicked on firefox it came up with my homepage, Bing, instead of the five other tabs I had had on it. As a test, I pulled up two different tabs, Facebook and DeviantArt, and I purposefully closed it again, hoping it was only a minor problem. When I clocked back onto it, it was Bing again. I've gone to tools, options, and looked under the start up settings, and it says it will remember tabs from the last session, but it isn't, and when i look under history, it only says Bing, even though I've been using firefox for over a year and i have more history than that. It's a very annoying problem since i just got used to the layout, and i don't like internet explorer, so i would very much appreciate if someone could help with my problem.

If you use Clear Recent History in Firefox 3.5/6 or Clear Private Data in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session (e.g. "Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.
Make sure that you not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links and disabled and not available.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
Uncheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

when I close out a website it goes to my desk top and then tells me firefox is already running and I have to shut down my system and bring it back up and wait to log back in. It's quite frustrating.

Try Ctrl>ALT>DEL then click Start Task Manager, then find the process firefox.exe, then click end program, then try opening Firefox again. <!-- click applications > new task.... > explorer.exe --> done! If that doesn't work, then try re-installing Firefox or going to this link to safe mode area and click continue to safe mode and then try and exit, if this problem still occurs then disable extensions and plugins

• Is there a time limit for iCloud tabs from shut down devices?

Hi,
I have had some tabs left open on my (shut down) office iMac that I wanted to check during holidays by using iCloud tabs. It all went fine the first week, but some days later all tabs from that iMac had disappeared. Back in office once I opened Safari the tabs showed up again as iCloud tabs on my mobile devices.
Is there a sort of time limit for tabs to stay in iCloud after having shut down the Mac from which they originate? Can I turn of this feature if I don’t want it?
Regards,
Tom

Anyone? OK, I imagine most people don’t shut down their Mac for more then one week or so or they don’t want to check out work related links opened at office during holidays... Or does this just happen to me?

• Pavilion g6 Notebook Restarts upon Shut Down/Hibernate/Sleep after Windows 8 Upgrade

Hello,
I've been dealing with this issue for several months now, since I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8. My computer will no longer correctly shut down, hibernate or sleep- everytime I do one of those things it restarts. To be more specific, it will shut down when I ask it to, but upon turning it on again, no matter what amount of time passes it will restart rather than start up and once the operating system is up it gives a hopelessly vague 'your PC encountered a problem' message. It has NOT shown me the blue screen. The error message is a banner across the screen asking if I would like to submit details. When I close the machine, my settings tell it to hibernate, and upon opening it, it restarts.
Initially, I had another huge problem with windows 8 refusing to update anything- itself, or any of my programs, it would go all the way through the process only to fail at the very end. Everytime it restarted inappropriately it would attept to update, fail, then 'revert changes'. So I did a Windows 8 'refresh' which solved the updating errors and everything should be currently up to date.

I have a pretty miniscule understanding of computers, but I had a friend do some research for me and he said he couldn't find any other people experiencing this problem. We tried updating all my drivers. The best we could come up with is that Windows 8 isn't completely compatible with my machine.
I would really appreciate some help on this subject and I am a student and I drag my laptop around with me all day and it gets pretty time consuming to wait for it to restart when I need it between classes.
Thanks!
Ella

Hello Ellabelle,
Your computer will not wake up correctly.
It sounds like you may need to completely reinstall windows 8.
Here is a link to all the driver updates for your system.
At the top of the page there is an option to scan now and let HP scan your system for missing and out of date drivers.
Use this option.
Let me know how everything goes.

• Need to unmount air drive upon shutting down computer?

stupid question time.
I just put a new extreme in as my base station and have a printer and a 500g Lacie HD connected to the extreme through a hub.
Also connected to two different express units to extend the network and stream iTunes to two different entertainment centers.
All four Macs in the house now hooked up and functioning and can print and see the HD and all its files.
When the HD is turned on it now autoloads on each box as it connects to the network.
I've been trashing or unmounting the Lacie each time I shut down each box just as I would if it were wired directly to the box via USB.
Is this unmounting step necessary, or can I just shut down the box w/o that step?
If I need to unmount each time can someone tell me what setting I change to avoid having the drives mount automatically?
The rest of the users in the household will never remember this step and I'm bound to forget as well.
regards
G4 powerbook 12", IBook 12", G4 mirror, IMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Everything is wireless w/ extreme n11 and 2 express units

Thanks for the info.
Good to know, no harm done by not ejecting the drive.
To seek further clarification if I may, physically turning the drive on and off as long as it's not in active use w/ one of the Mac's on the network is ok?
One further item. Is there a setting change I can make that will prevent the networked HD from automatically mounting?
Cheers.

• Computer frozen. I have a paper i was writing and didn't save. If I shut down I will loose it, is there another way to get it working again?

Computer frozen, can't loose paper when shut down.Is there a another way to get working?

• [Athlon64] Computer power cycling randomly upon shut down.

Ok, for some reason my machine has started cycling power for a second in a cycle when I power down sometimes.
If I select Turn Off computer from Windows XP, the computer shuts down.
Then, I see the power light blink....the diagnostic lights of the motherboard, all four blink, the fan clicks and spins for a second.
This happens repeatedly. I tried unplugging the computer, then plugging it back in. As soon as I plug it back in, the process starts. The fan spins up, power light blinks on then off...diagnostic lights (all 4) go on, the network plug goes on. Now, this just happens automatically. I do not have to press the power on switch.
It's started happening with some regularity. I usually leave my computer running for days, so perhaps that's why I haven't experienced this problem more often.
Any ideas on what could be happening?

From what you are saying it doesn't sound like it is running well now.
I would do a reset and see if it will post. Then run Memtest86 at the correct RAM timings top see what you get. Otherwise the only other thing I can assume is the PSU went or maybe one of the componants somewhere in the box which will require more extensive troubleshooting. You are going to have to start somewhere.
Oh if you have overcooked the machine set it back to defaults.
