Firefox disc image stays on my desktop. I can eject it, but it returns the next time I click on firefox in my doc.
I just downloaded Firefox 4. The download folder appeared, plus the drive image. I've closed the download folder, and deleated the disc image after closing Firefox. However the next time I click on Firefox in my dock...the download folder and disc image apper on my desktop again! This is very annoying!!!!

I think the problem to be self explanatory
Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
* Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
* Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords. -
I downloaded and ran the update to Firefox. It said it was successful and then the welcome page etc. came up. However, after I had closed down and started up again the "old" version came up when I clicked on the Firefox icon with the usual comment that I have an old version and should update. I have tried this three times with the same result. I have a Compaq Presario 2200 laptop.
What am I doing wrong? If you use the www.google.com/firefox site as home page that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page then you can ignore the message about not using the latest Firefox version on that page.
Google no longer seems to maintain that page.
The text about not running the latest Firefox version is in the code of the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page and it looks that Google no longer maintains that page.
Current Firefox 4+ versions no longer use that Google website as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page.
Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you that you use an older Firefox version and suggests to update.
You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle).
-
See above question
Had this trouble myself, just did some research and solved it!
Go to the '''Help''' menu, go to "'''Troubleshooting Information'''"
On the new window, click "'''Open Containing folder'''" next to ''Profile Directory'' (This opens the folder on your PC where Mozilla stores some settings, like a tab history)
In the new Windows Explorer window, Find the file "'''chromeappsstore.sqlite'''"
You'll want to close Firefox and then '''delete''' that file (don't worry, Firefox will create a new one, and you won't even lose the open tabs)
Start Firefox again and the button should work!
(For completeness's sake, the profile folder for windows7 is: C:\Users\Tiberion\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\c6xu23fh.default\
where you replace Tiberion with your own username, and the random characters in the final folder will be different.) -
The details are in the question. Don't know what else to add.

Usually the install icon is ejected and the application lives in the applications folder. Not this time. When I eject the icon from the desktop, the next time I open FF, the install package reappears in a window. ??
One reason why this would happen: the Firefox icon that you see on your Dock actually opens Firefox from the disk image and not from the "Applications" folder.
To verify this, control-click on the Firefox icon in the Dock and then select "Show in Finder". In the Finder window that opens, check the path. Is it your "Applications" folder or is it the path to the install disk image? If it is path to disk image, remove the icon from Dock and then drag the icon from "Applications" folder to the Dock.
Edit: Note to myself - submit answer immediately after typing it :) -

I go to "Tools", "Options" and then "Privacy". At the "Location Bar" I set it to "Nothing" and then accept. The next time I restart my laptop from "Sleep", start up Firefox and start typing in a web address in the location bar it shows me the "Bookmark" stuff.
sounds like malware fallout

I recently updated Firefox on my desktop and laptop. Before, when i closed Firefox, a window would open and ask me if i wanted to return to the same group of URL location tabs the next time i opened Firefox.
Now it doesn't ask that, so i have to remember which sites i was using each time. Is there a way to return to the same group of URL locations each time I re-open Firefox? For a summary of what to do to get the old behaviour back see this post from [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/804339#answer-158823 Helper 7677]

Even tho' I've set options for Firefox to delete history when it closes, it still remembers my open tabs and tries to reinstate them the next time it starts. This causes two problems: 1) it takes longer for Firefox to close, such that if I start it again a few sec later it is still running and won't restart; 2) it sometimes reopens websites I am no longer want when it next starts. The latter also makes the last sites I visited visible to the next user, which I (and I suspect most other users) want to avoid. I would like to turn this feature off since it is far more of a problem than a benefit!
@cor-el
I have the same problem.
My settings are already configured to "Show a blank page". It does show a blank page normally, but when FF crashes, it attempts to reload all the tabs from the previous session when it restarts. My version is: Firefox/3.6.13, and I'm running XP sp3 if that matters. -

How do I make deleted gmail stay deleted? All of a sudden, everything that I have deleted reappears the next time I open the mail.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I am currently using firefox v3.6.16, and running windows 7 ultimate. Under the help menu I keep seeing "downloading firefox 3.1.6.17" and when I click on that option a window comes up showing v3.6.17 downloading. After it is complete a message states that it will be installed the next time firefox starts. I then restart firefox but the same events happen again!. It is annoying to say the least. What is the situation?
You can try to clear the Flash local storage and settings if the problem is with the Flash plugin.
*Windows Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage: Local Storage Settings
**Remove a specific domain: Local Storage Settings by site
**Remove all domains: Delete All and Delete Data
