Firefox displays as a black window. How do I fix this?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have tried to open in safe mode. Neither of these actions fixes the problem. Can anyone suggest anything else?

hello dipatbun, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • (Yellow) Highlights appear black. How can I fix this?

Today I woke up to find that I can't read the highlighted parts of my PDFs because they suddenly appear black. I have a Mac. Any suggestions as to how to fix it? Many thanks.

Hi Anubha Goel. Thank you for your response.
No, the document was not sent to me, and it happens with all my PDFs.
    MAC OS: 10.6.8
I already tried what you suggested. Still looks black.
Another weird change: when I select a line or two, instead of the selected
part looking blue (as it did before), now it looks black and the letters
    look orange.
    Thank you.
    Regards.

Looking at your system details, it doesn't look like you've got the Adobe Flash Plugin installed. Try following the instructions here: [[How do I install the Flash plugin?]]

  • FireFox crashed and when I opened it the only way to get my tabs back was to restore them in a new window, how do I fix this?

This Isn't the first time this has happened to me.
The tabs have to be restored in a new window Instead of the main one
witch just displays my home page.I have to restore my tabs in a new window every time I open Firefox and the only way I have found to fix this is to open all my tabs one by one in the main window.
I just want an easier way to transfer my tabs so they open every time I
open Firefox. Is there a way to do this other than the method I mentioned because its annoying to have to open all my tabs one by one every time this hapens

    Hi Steeloid
click on the Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > General panel > Startup > Show my windows and tabs from last time .

  • Clicking a link opens a smaller window, not a maximized window, how can I fix this?

When I click links that open in a new window, that new window is not maximized, like the browser window that I used to click the link. How can I fix this?
I prefer using new windows instead of new tabs, and I have been doing this forever. I had turned OFF the automatic updates for Firefox, but this newest update was installed anyway. If there is no setting to open all new links in windows the same size as the main window, is there an option to revert this update?

    Hi Mumps,
There is a feature in Firefox that forces window.open() to open in a new window.
    browser. block. target_new_window
    Reference (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries)
Same window size should be default. It should open the window of the same size. Try to reset firefox if this is not happening. (about:support page > Reset)

  • My Firefox opens in a media player how can i fix this?

I downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack and it made most of my files on my computer to open in a media player and it also changed my firefox to open in it also how can i fix it?
    Thanks in advance

Sounds that that installer has grabbed a lot of file extensions and made them open in a media player.
You can try to uninstall this codec pack to see if that reverts those associations to their previous action.
Otherwise you can try to right-click a file with a changed association and use open with to change the current association to the previous program that handled it.

  • Pdfs and word docs started not displaying correctly in browser. How do I fix this?

Until about a week ago, when I would open a pdf or word document in Firefox, it would open in a new Window and I could view it without download. Now, when I open a pdf, it shows some lines, but no text. I can only view the document if I then download the document, which will display correctly. Today, I tried to open a Word document from Firefox. A new window opened and it told me how many pages there was, but all of the pages are blank.
Is there a way to fix this? I like not having to download the documents unless I want to save them.
I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 on a computer running Windows 7 Enterprise, Service pack 1.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

Ok. My computer ran updates last night and today it works. So, I'm good for now. If this happens to anyone else, I'm not sure how it was fixed besides the fact that my computer ran updates and restarted.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

  • At start-up or hitting "home" firefox is opening 2 "Firefox start pages" at a time how do I fix this so it only opens 1 at a time?

when Firefox loads it opens 2 home pages. Also if I use the "Home" button it also then opens 2 home pages. What can I do to fix this?

Reset your homepage so there is only one homepage instead of two?

  • Everything appears in reverse that is white type on a black page how can I fix this?

Using Acrobat reader 11.0.07 on a MacBook Air running 10.9.5.  Everything appears as white type on a black page.  It prints correctly but I cannot view it as anything but a negative.  How can I resolve this?

First thing I would try is to update to 11.0.09.
Does the same thing happen if you open the PDF in Adobe Reader?

  • When opening foxfire on my mac the website extends off the right side of the window. how do I fix this?

when I start up foxfire, the page the loads and any further browsing is extended to the right further than the window shows. I can get it to work correctly if I click the Green plus button on the window to maximize the window to full screen and then click it again to restore it to the size it was. Is there any way to fix this so it just loads up correctly upon starting the application?

  • Everything I click on opens in a new window, How do i fix this?

EVERYTHING i click on opens in a new window. even when checking email or whatever I click on the email a new window opens, then I click to go back to emails and a new windows opens. everything I do a new window opens it is super annoying. anyone have nay idea how to fix this?? I am really computer stupid in this department...HELP!!

Under Preferences > Content > checkmark "Block pop-up windows"
Under Preferences > Tabs > checkmark "Open new windows in a tab instead"
That may not solve all your problems, but it should make it a lot less annoying.

  • Firefox22 get plc4.dll error, click ok and firefox starts. Did clean reinstall of everything related to Firefox but still have problem. How do I fix this?

Was using Firefox 21, after 20, etc. Automatically updated Firefox to version 22 and problem appeared. I get the error message, click OK and Firefox runs normally. I reinstalled version 22..same problem. I removed everything after copying bookmarks to html file. I removed application data, extensions, folders--everything. I download a fresh copy of 22, installed it, imported my bookmarks and installed new copies of my extensions. SAME PROBLEM. I get plc4.dll not found error. I copied plc4.dll from Thunderbird to Firefox folder. Then I get nspr4.dll error. I copied this too from Thunderbird to Firefox, then I get xpcom.dll not found error. I copied this as well and get NS_CSTringContainerInit2_P not found in xul.dll. BUT FIREFOX STILL LOADS and runs normally after I click OK. I also did a Malware scan to make sure this wasn't a factor. How do I resolve this crap?

I did exactly what you describe , no improvement. I was surprised.

  • Upgraded to 7.0.1, Firefox is still extremely laggy. How do I fix this? Can I fix this?

I upgraded to 7.0.1 in hopes that the whole "lagging like hell" thing would be fixed. It's not. I'm running FF in Safe-Mode as we speak and it's STILL lagging and freezing just as badly as before. I'm very disappointed. How am I to fix this problem, if it's fixable at all? I've scanned for viruses so I know it's not my computer.

  • Ok, one sentence, that's tough - I have gone through the 'firefox crashes when you open it' troubleshooting but my problem remains that firefox crashes when i open it, how do i fix this?

Several days ago firefox crashed when opening and it does so every time i try to open it now. I am able to use internet explorer perfectly. In fact one way i discovered i can still open firefox is by using Advanced System Care (which i installed after the crashing so it was not in any way responsible) and going to 'test bandswidth'. Because firefox is my default browser it opened it up. I was able to enter safe mode in this way and restart firefox in safe mode. I then set firefox so that all plugins and extensions were disabled but this did not help. I am running the default theme. I will be happy to provide any further information if anyone can help..thanks in advance.

You always need to install such a version alongside of the current release via a custom install and use a separate profile for each Firefox version.
Make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished and use the Profile Manager to create a new (separate) profile for each version.<br />
Do a custom install in a different program folder and use the Profile Manager to create a new profile for this version, so make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished.
