Firefox Distribution

Hiya all-
I'm working on a test environment where the user logs in to NDS and is
then auto-logged into Win2K as "user" and not administrator. I'm hoping
to move to this sort of environment in an effort to cut down on
Ad/Spyware, and to keep rogue apps like IM's from being installed.
As part of our defense against Ad/Spyware, I'm trying to distribute
Mozilla Firefox to a test machine.
I've tried attacking it from a variety of directions, and found several
less than specific suggestions and threads out there, but I just can't
seem to get it to install properly. I'm sure I'm missing somthing easy,
but has anyone out there succesfully delivered Firefox via the app launcher?
Your help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Brandt

that might help as well
so has anyone created a full install with plugins/company customized
skin/etc for multiuser (assuming possible target machines get used by more
than 1 login) that would be easily updatable to the next version?
Thanks,

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to let you know there is a site that may be of some use. A
lot of people who work with Novell products, and are VERY good with
implementations and troubleshooting, frequent the site. You can find it at:

  • Kindly advise how i can export and distribute settings done on "about:config == network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris" to all computers in the network. What is the best way to effect this changes on all Machines?

I want user to access sharepoint on Mozilla without being prompted for credentials instead it should use logged on credentials

Hi Meshackl, there is a very simple way with the distribution.ini file. Mike Kaply describes how to do that here:
    http://mike.kaply.com/2012/03/26/customizing-firefox-distribution-ini/

  • When extract omni.ja file using winrar program give me that file is corrupted for version 17.0.2 windows and language is EN-US ?

i need to update and set default bookmarks show always when install firefox
when update omni.ja file i do this steps :
Steps to change “Bookmarks.html” file in “omni.ja”:
    - Copy “omni.ja” file and change the prefix of the file to “zip” so that you can extract it using WinRAR program, then extract the file.
    - Make the changes you want to the extracted files.
    - Open the original “omni.ja” file using WinRAR program.
    - Using “Add” button to replace the modified files.
the first step when extart the file it's give me that file is corrupted only for this version (firefox 17.0.2 windows EN-US)

There is no need to edit files in the omni.ja! archives to achieve this.

If you need to initialize specific files in a new profile then create a template folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser\defaults\profile\) and place the files in that folder.

  • Deploying Bookmarks via Group Policy

    Hi,
I've been tasked with deploying Firefox bookmarks via GPO. The GPO add-on is installed.
Initially things are fine as I can deploy our centrally created places.sqlite file to the relevant Firefox directory.
However, if the user creates new bookmarks these are overwritten when our central places.sqlite file is redeployed. We have to update the file frequently as new favourites are added.
Is there any way of us being able to update each users places.sqlite without them losing their personally created bookmarks?
    Cheers.

  • Do these programs run on the Intel Imacs

I wanna get the intel imacs, but i just wanna know if these programs will work on them.
-Photoshop cs2 or the entire creative suite
    -Dreamweaver
    -Micorsoft office suite
    -Flash 8
    -Firefox

There's a special Flash plug-in supplied with the Intel-Macs because the distribution version of Flash is not Intel-Mac compatible. The other programs will all run via Rosetta. There is a universal-binary version of Firefox (it's not the standard Firefox distribution, rather a Deer Park variant.)
Read my user tip on migrating:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers. These versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel-Macs. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the only current choice is USB Overdrive. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (does not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • Plugins not Enabled

In the Plugin Manger the list of plugins that are available are greyed out but they are enabled. See screenshot.      If i attempt to use an export or publish plugin, the enabled plugins do not show up as an option for that task.
If i enable a plugin that is disbaled, i get the following error.
No idea what the reference to the upper right section means either.
When i click OK, i get the following error:
    Anyone have any idea?

This sounds like quite a complicated setup that you try to achieve.
I don't know if there is someone around here that has the background and expertise to provide you with this information.
Note that the correct name is extensions.autoDisableScopes (see bug Bug 666437 and Bug 693698) and that this pref only has effect for extensions and not for plugins.<br />
Plugins are always found via a scan in known locations.
To initialize prefs it is best to do this via a mozilla.cfg file or via means like distribution.ini.

    See also:
    *CCK2 Wizard: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/cck2wizard/
There is no need to include prefs like these that have an epoch time string as those will be created automatically when required (1273520281 is May 10 2010, so that is really old)
This value also makes no sense as it should be a time in seconds (the default of 43200 would be twice a day 86400/2)
    *defaultPref("app.update.interval", 1273520281);
The CAPS prefs (capability.policy.*) are probably no longer supported and won't have effect, so you may want to reconsider which prefs that you really want to initialize.

  • Invisible search result on pages with multiple pics.

When loading the site [http://LNK.by/fjbe de.picclick.com] and searching after the search term "RI58-0-9000" (hotkey "CTRL+F") I can't find the search result, because the search result is 1-2 inches out of visual range. When using Google Chrome I can see the search result (it's orange highlighted). -Can the Firefox developers modify the next Firefox distribution so that the search result can be found by Firefox, too ?

Google Chrome seems to have problems as well as I see the text disappearing.
That site places that link on one line with whitespace set to nowrap and giving all elements fixed height with no scrolling possible.
This style either via userContent.css or Stylish makes it work better and allows scrolling the text.

  • Firefox with distribution ID

I know this seems silly, but Firefox on my system appears as "Linux x86_64" and I want it to appear as "Debian Linux x86_64".
I know I can use the general.useragent.override option in the user_prefs.js file, but it seems I can't use a partial string for just the platform token of the user agent. So everytime I update Firefox, I would also have to update the Firefox version number in the user_prefs.js file.
I've also compiled Firefox using the --with-distribution-id=org.debian in mozconfig, but that option doesn't seem to affect anything.
Is there another file I should be looking at before or after compile? Or maybe a different string in the user_prefs.js file?

There used to have been the possibility to have a user agent override for a specific server/domain, but this feature has been removed.
    You can try:

  • I have Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I understand that in the distribution is Firefox, but what is it called? Name of Module, zip file, or whatever?

Where is Firefox? What directory is it in?

Your servlet must set some headers on the HTTP response (Content-Type as "application/zip", Content-Disposition as "attachment; filename=yourfilename.zip")
    Read the RFC1806 document.
    Content-Type: application/zip
    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=genome.jpeg

  • Adobe 9.1.3 and FireFox 3.5.1+ "...can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser"

This is the issue but I'm not sure there is a resolution:
    Firefox:  Version 3.5.1
    Adobe: Version 9.1.3
When navigating the web, click a URL that opens a PDF inside the browser and you get an error * "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is
running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser".  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again".  I did read a post that doing a "repair" from the Adobe Reader application should fix this, they also reference a few registry keys to check becuase the post states it's lost the application path to Adobe version X.  I don't necessarily buy that "fix" and here are my details below.
In FireFox if you navigate to Tools > Options > Applications > Adobe Acrobat Document
    You're given choices:
Always ask:  DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
Save File:  Works, saves the file to a directory on your PC
Use Adobe Reader 9.1 (defau...:  Works, opens your PDF's outside of your web browser
Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox):  DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
    Use other...:
IE seems to just work as expected.
If you open Adobe Reader > Edit > Preferences > Internet > Check "Display PDF in browser" - DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
This would seem to be an Adobe error rather than a FireFox web browser problems since FireFox does seem to know the correct path although I suppose you can't rule out that this is a FireFox problem since 2 out of the 4 PDF open options DON'T WORK.
Any thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Other information:
Adobe 8.1.5 works perfectly with FF 3.5.1+ when opening PDF's in the web browser, we also had no problems with previous versions either.
MSI push via Active Directory from Adobe 8.1.5 upgrade to Licensed Distribution I signed up for, Adobe 9.1.3 which was upgraded from 9.1.0, to 9.1.2, to 9.1.3 via an MSP patch.
Operating system:  Windows XP SP 2, plenty of RAM, plenty of Drive
IE version this works with the new version of Adobe 9.1.3 is version 7 (7.0.5730.13)
Our FireFox MSI's come from Front Motions website and as far as I know we've never had problems with their MSI's, also tried the new release of FF 3.5.2 from their website.
I think that about covers it.  Anyone else experiencing the same problems or have a patch?

After troublshooting this for the entire day today the issue seems to be a MIME problem.
If everything is woking perfectly, in Tools > Options > Applications...
You should see 4 or more things related to Adobe like "Adobe Acrobat Forms Document", etc.  If you don't see at least 4 MIME entries either your Adobe installation is hosed or your FF installation is hosed.  I haven't figured out which is causing the issue.
What I did was remaster my patches from my original Adobe 9.1.0 MSI with the two updates via the command line in the directories with the source files.  On the 9.1.0 original file I first remastered my MST transform with the Adobe MST utility.  I then applied my patches.
    msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp
    msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd913_all_incr.msp
I then uploaded that to my network share, unlinked my group policy, made a new group policy, added a batch file to delete adobe.com from program file and the desktop on system startup even though my MST was supposed to take care of that - it's not a perfect world is it?  :-)
I then reapplied my GPO's for both FireFox 3.5.2 and Adobe 9.1.3, I checked to make sure the MIME extensions were there and they were.  You might have to go into your Adobe Preferences and select that open in browser setting depending on what happens or adjust your MIME settings in FireFox's options but it should work.
That's what worked for me.  It's possible a few other things I did along the way tweaked it out, in my group policy on the first run I did select to upgrade previous group policies, for the remaster and repush I didn't select any previous GPO's to upgrade.
It's hard to tell what one thing tweaked it out or what combination of things tweaked out the install.  I did also reinstall Adobe 8.1.5 and FF 3.0.10 before doing all this since our machines currently have that setup, I'm not sure if that affected it either, it's just hard to tell but I don't think it did simply because I had done that several times in troubleshooting this issue.
If anyone else has more specifics that would be great!

  • In linux, saving a background image (set as Desktop)feature doesnt download my image to wallpaper folder..or even to standard "Save download" feature. Can I tell firefox where (what folder) to save my "Set as Desktop" picture?

When I find a suitable picture to use as wallpaper" I often right click and use the menu item "Set as Desktop Background". The file ""example.jpg" is saved in directory\folder "/home/user" rather than for example "/home/user/my wallpaper" or in the directory
"/home/user/Downloads". The latter as being set under the "Downloads" section on the "General" tab in the "Preferences" dialog box.
Is there a configuration file where I can change the default location to save my "Set as Desktop Background" images. Or better still can the menu be customized to launch the application that allows me to set my desktop wallpapers?
I am using the "PCLinuxOS" Linux OS but I have encountered this issue in many if not all the Linux distributions I have sampled.

Don't use "Set as Desktop". Use ''' "Save Image As..." ''' instead, and file it with your other "wallpaper" images so the operating system has access to those images.
IIRC, Firefox saves a "desktop image" to the Profile folder, and it will only save one image, at that. Change the image and the previous one is gone.

  • When I try to access certain listings on ebay they are blocked - I am told this is because it thinks I am in France. I use an English ISP and the problem only happens with Firefox, not (for instance) IE. How can I overcome this?

When I try to access certain listings on eBay I get the following message:
"Unfortunately, access to this particular listing or item has been blocked due to a Paris commercial court decision that bans trade of certain authentic perfumes and cosmetic products on eBay because of French selective distribution laws. eBay is appealing this ruling but is nevertheless required to enforce it. We are blocking your viewing in an effort to comply with this court decision. Regrettably, in some cases, we may prevent users from accessing items that are not within the scope of the decision because of limitations on existing technology."
eBay support told me it is because they think I am in France or because I am using a French ISP. I am in London and am using the British ISP, Bethere. What can I do to convince them that I am in England?
The URL quoted is just an example. It happens frequently with other listings.

    This is what I get:
    ISP: Be Un Limited
    Organization: Be Un Limited
    Connection: Broadband
    Services: None Detected
    City: Horsham
    Region: West Sussex
    Country: United Kingdom
It can't be a problem with my ISP or my IP address since it only happens with Firefox. When I try out the same listings with other browsers it doesn't happen. eBay said Firefox must be making it seem as though I am in France. Goodness knows how or why??

  • Cannot upgrade from 6.02 to 7.0 on linux (browser direct from firefox)

I understand that you launched 7.0 yesterday. I updated my windows firefox ok, but when I try to update the firefox on my debian linux (firefox directly from Mozilla.com - not any linux distribution) then - Help-About Mozilla Firefox - says Firefox 6.0.2 is up to date.
How can I update, or will it just take some more time for your linux depo to be upgraded to 7.0?

We actually pulled back the update after spotting a potential problem that affects some users running certain add-ons. We'll resume with the update to 7.0.1 shortly, but if you really want to install right away, you can still get 7.0 directly from mozilla.org. Hope this helps.
